kamva Labantu, one of a long standing groups of NGOs in the township, is pulling out all stops to raise a whooping R1,5 million by the end of the year. On the back of a campaign called Fuel2Grow, the campaign aims to assist vulnerable children from broken families with food, school stationery, transport fees, and all the support necesary for the livelihood of a child. Ikamva Labantu was established in 1963,
and is appealing for help from the public to reach this target. General Manager Nyasha Manjengenja, speaking at the launch, which was held at the Rainbow Centre in NY135 in Gugulethu, said the organisation already offers an afterschool programme to children between six and 18 years old. The programme includes meals, school uniforms, additional home support, sports, the arts, primary health screenings and academic support. The intensive three-month fundraising

children in their care. “Through this approach, we are able to give them access to resources, support services, and the motivation they need to fulfil their biggest dreams,” said Manjengenja. The plan is to expand to more areas to be able to offer holistic care to as many children as possible. “When children join our programme for the first time, they are often vulnerable and exposed to a life of poverty, gangsterism, teenage pregnancy, stagnant academic progress and poor health.
