On Point- A phrase that means so much to me. A phrase that inspires many. Any other member of the publishing industry understands the incredible, behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating a beautiful and meaningful print. Photographers are capturing emotion, content writers are portraying influence, and designers are finding the special factor to make each magazine unique. The combination of our 20-person team is what allows for On Point to thrive. This past semester has been overtaken by weather-related disruptions as well as ever-changing trends in the magazine and social industry. However, we have kept on moving forward. Our members have been researching, gathering all influential information to showcase to our readers. Our fashion show was a success! Hosting about 100 individuals on High Point University’s campus, models wearing Bevello, Shop 218, and Monkee’s of High Point. The weeks leading up to the publication have been nothing but dedicated, passionate work. My Editor-In-Chief and I are working on the new, the upcoming, the future of On Point Magazine. With business plans completed and employees being hired… the future awaits. The leaves have fallen… and the new year is about to begin. With all of the behind-the-scenes efforts, our magazine for Fall 2018 is a celebration of all things fashion and mindfulness. Please enjoy and stay On Point!

s college students, we take on a lot of responsibilities, and frankly sometimes it feels like we can’t breathe running between classes to group projects to club meetings- let alone finding time to eat and getting enough sleep. If you know someone who says they don’t have two minutes to slow down, chances are, they are the ones who need twenty.

We all have a creative muscle, we just need to exercise it. Doing something creative every day has immense benefits for our psyche. Whether you like to draw, dance, cook, make videos or write, try taking on a creative endeavor every day, or even once a week. The catch is that no one has to see it. Use this time to express yourself freely and not worry about judgement from others or yourself.

e’ve all been there one too many times- the endless scroll between Facebook videos, Instagram stories and too many tweets. Before you know it, you’ve been on your phone for- god, has it really been an hour already? It seems as though everyone and everything is demanding our attention these days. But we don’t need to surrender our time and energy to the constant stream of information seeping from our phones and laptops. Here, we have provided some tools for you to set in place to disconnect in order to reclaim your time, energy, and moments of clarity. Screen Time Tracking According to research experts at Moment, the average person spends about twice as much time on their phone during the day as they think they do. Thus, someone who believes they spend two hours of their day on their phone are actually closer to four (inthemoment.io). The newest iPhone software update iOS 12 provides users with Screen Time Tracking, “empowering you to understand and make choices about how much time you spend using apps and websites” (Apple https://www. apple.com/ios/ios-12/features/). You are able to set limits for time spent in certain apps (looking at you, endless Instagram scroll) to allocating screen-free time during the day, usually at bed time or first thing in the morning. users, the Moment app is a long-established application that is dedicated to using screen-time mindfully. Moment runs in the background to account for how much time you spend on your phone, how often you pick it up to check the time and more. With both Moment and iOS 12, you can set daily limits for total time on your phone and even certain apps, like Instagram or Facebook. Email Chances are that over time, you have subscribed to unimaginable amounts of newsletters and email promos. Whether you tend to let these emails pile up or go through them constantly, they are adding a significant amount of digital and mental clutter that you don’t need. The free website unroll.me is a game-changing tool that you can link to your email to sort through all of this chaos. You get to choose what comes through your mailbox without unsubscribing from individual emails as they come to your inbox. The website scans all of your subscriptions and gives you the option to unsubscribe completely, archive a sender, or keep them in your inbox. Immediately, you will start to notice that you stop checking your email out of boredom, and everything that comes to your inbox is actually adding value to your life.

No phone in bed Sara Weinreb (@saraweinreb) is a Brooklyn-based blogger who conducts personal experiments for slow, mindful living. One of her most recognized experiments was the #NoPhoneInBed challenge. For five days, she challenges you to leave your phone alone for the morning until you have gotten out of bed and done something for yourself. Why? By replacing your morning habit of checking Instagram or email with 10 minutes of meditation or simply enjoying a cup of coffee, you prioritize yourself and your state of mind going into the rest of the day over others’ agendas.

veryone wants to be confident in their own, natural makeup-free skin. Sometimes, however, those subtle swipes of concealer and blush are needed to give you that extra polish and boost throughout the day. One look that has never gone out of style, that has stuck around for every fashion week on countless runways, and that a multitude of busy college women are hoping to achieve on a day-to-day basis is the ‘no-makeup makeup look’. Since most of us do not have time to begin our mornings with lengthy routines, yet we still want to achieve that fresh, clean look that makes us feel good, I’ve reached out to women on campus who wear the no-makeup look with perfection. Whether passing by on your way to class or seeing them out on the weekends, you’ll most likely find yourself wondering how they achieve a simple, yet effectively beautiful complexion. Here’s everything you need to know about their routines and the products they use that can create a natural-looking, flawless face: Dani Ruiz, Junior • Plump skin with Glossier’s Crème de Glossier Priming Moisturizer. • Lightly apply Too Faced Born This Way foundation beneath eyes to conceal dark circles and uplift the under-eye area. • Brush Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer over cheeks and nose for a hint of color. • Optional eye color includes Naked Urban Decay Smoky eyeshadow, mixing colors ‘Combust’ and ‘Thirteen’ and applying with a small brush. • Give eyelashes volume with two to three coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. • Dab Vaseline Coco Butter over lips for simple shine and hydration. • Spray two mists of Glossier Soothing Face Mist Rosewater Spray to keep the look fresh throughout the day. • Must Have: Glossier’s Crème De Glossier Priming Moisturizer- “I absolutely love using this before applying products to my face because it gives me a smooth, dewy canvas for makeup and also comforting hydration when worn alone.”

• Powder lightly with BareMinerals Bareskin Perfecting Veil, using a brush for application. • Apply Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte bronzer around edge of face and over cheekbones. • Color cheeks with Nars Blush in Orgasm. • Dab E.L.F. Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls over blush with ring finger. • Before I apply mascara, I use Milani “make it last” setting spray and let that dry. • Curl then apply Maybelline Great Lash Mascara for a subtle lash flick. • Must Have: Nars Blush in Orgasm- “Blush is my favorite makeup product because it really accentuates my cheekbones and I love the multitude of shades you can play around with.”

Alex Rossi, Senior • Cover blemishes and discolorations with Benefit Industrial Strength Concealer in No.2 and blend with fingertips. • Blend Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Light all over face and into neck. “I always feel better when I’m tan, so I use bronzer instead of a lighter powder.” • Brush Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow in ‘Sidecar’ over full lids. • Thinly line lids for a natural pop with e.l.f. liquid eyeliner in Jet Black. • Curl lashes first and finish with Maybelline Falsies Volum’ Express Mascara in very black. • Must Have: Benefit Industrial Strength Concealer- “This concealer is my staple every day because it matches skin tones perfectly and I always feel more confident when my blemishes are covered up!”

Dana Davitt, Senior • Spray Versa Spa Bronzing Mist at night, a few inches from the face, for that natural, tan glow the next day. • Prep and even out skin tone with MILK Matcha Toner, which comes in an easy roller application. • Spread Too Faced Hangover Primer over face as a base. • Bronze with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. • Swipe a line of Physician’s Formula Super BB Insta Ready Contour Stick on each cheek and blend with foundation brush. • Brush Urban Decay Naked Unlimited Basics Eyeshadow in color ‘Blow’ over lids and layer ‘Instinct’ towards top of lids underneath the brow. • Prime lashes with Chanel La Base Mascara Primer, let dry, then apply Le Volume De Chanel Mascara. • Finish by giving lips a soft mauve tint with Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in Queen B. • Must Have: La Base Mascara Primer by Chanel- “Before getting this product, every mascara would leave me with black smudges under my eyes by the end of the day. When I use this primer, my mascara stays on longer and never smears. It’s a must have for sure!”

Maria Mosconi, Sophomore • Moisturize with Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion • Prime with Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer to minimize pores. • Buff Tarte BB tinted moisturizer in Light onto face with brush.

Wrap-Up: These looks take no more than 15-20 minutes each, and what’s great about each one is that they consist of high to low-end products. With these tips and inspiration, you can achieve the natural, no-makeup look to wear every day while remaining bold and On Point.

raveling the world sounds wonderful- it is wonderful. I hope you all get to travel to a place on your bucket list soon. With traveling comes organization, timeliness, and more. It is crucial to find your “niche” of travel essentials so your trip is made easy and stressfree. The effects of stress on the body can be extremely harmful if not prevented. Traveling has been seen as one of the most stressful times for people, with which I assume people can relate. From waking up early to taking your shoes off in security, traveling requires complete attention. Since my young ages, traveling has been stressful for me and I’ve been looking for the joy in the journey. With flying comes a lot of movement and organization. I have compiled some essentials that I believe to be useful to anyone, anywhere. Traveling in a healthy and efficient manner is important to everyone and I want to showcase how simple it can become. With influencers and travel bloggers taking over the world, it is easy to find ideas on places to go and things to bring along the way. Here are my recommendations for a joyous trip… Pre-Flight Pack a few days ahead - I like to pack at least 2 days in advance so that I can see what I have left or need to pack in the upcoming hours. Packing ahead will allow you to feel less stressed the day of traveling. Wake up early - Whether the flight is in the early morning or late at night, wake up early so you can get organized, eat a healthy breakfast, and live a stress-free day. It is no fun to run around last minute before a flight, so utilize the morning and maybe watch the sun rise. Water! Water! Water! - Always stay healthy before a flight. If you build your immune system up to a healthy state, it is less likely for you to catch something on the flight. Stay hydrated! Meditate - Traveling can be stressful, especially when going international. Find time to meditate and breathe so that your mind is free

of unnecessary stress. Utilize reminders & calendar - Our phones all have reminder and calendar applications. Use these to write down important times like take off and check in. Use reminders to pack something important or call someone before the flight. We can all use a reminder from time to time. In-Flight Water! Water! Water! - Again, drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and free from sickness. Traveling can be draining and staying hydrated is crucial for a successful trip. Healthy snacks - I like to pre-pack snacks when I travel. It saves money and your well being. I like to pack some fruit and protein snacks that are easy to fit in a bag and healthy for in-flight. Rest - Take some time to nap or close your eyes during the flight if you had to wake up early or had a long day. Flying can be therapeutic for some, so utilize the time to find rest. Find your zen - Whether you listen to music, listen to a podcast, meditate, or sleep, find your version of zen throughout the flight. Bags inside of bags - Pack little bags inside of your main bag. This way, nothing gets lost and you know where everything is. Post-Flight Water! Water! Water! - Annoying, I know, but drink more water. After the flight, it is crucial to stay healthy and fuel the body with hydration so the trip can be fun and full of wellness. Clean/ organize - Keep your suitcase organized so that your clothes remain clean. If drawers and closets are available, organize your clothes like you would at home. Find your zen - Again, find your version of calm wherever you are. This will keep your mind and spirit healthy throughout the trip. Vitamins/ remain healthy - Take your vitamins and kick up your immune system so that you remain healthy throughout the duration of your vacation. Sleep - Lastly, take time to rest and sleep. Enjoy the silence and enjoy the trip! Summer On Point | 23

THE

80

20 RULE

24 | On Point

Summer

Gina Figliozzi

I

t seems like there are constantly new fitness and health trends claiming to be the magic answer to all of life’s problems. Whether it’s a new ‘skinny tea’ or detox diet… this writer thinks we may all be a little tired of those often empty promises that never seem to deliver. Should you trust everything you hear? No, of course not! It’s wise to be skeptical of anything that remotely suggests there is an ‘easy’ solution to becoming your healthiest self. The honest truth is that it’s not easy to do so, and it’s not a one size fits all solution. Reaching your health and fitness goals does not come without sacrifice, changes, and adjustment. The key is to make the changes that you implement into your life sustainable. This allows you the chance to lead a life that is enjoyable and fulfilling.

The 80/20 rule is a lifestyle… not a diet or trend. The 80/20 rule allows for freedom, splurges, and as many mental benefits as there are physical. The whole idea behind this way of life is to eat well and think positively 80% of the time while the remaining 20% allows for the enjoyment of foods that would commonly be wrongly classified as ‘cheat’ items (which don’t actually exist). The importance of maintaining a balance between foods that fuel your body with nutrients and beneficial vitamins versus foods that make your taste buds soar is crucial. Engaging in a lifestyle of deprivation is not only unethical but will be unsustainable and cause a binge to occur followed by the relapse of old habits. One shouldn’t have to deprive themselves of the foods they love. The key concept in the 80/20 rule is moderation. If you eat well 80% of the time, you are free to indulge here and now so that you never feel deprived. But… what is 80% of the time? If we take one day, the 80/20 rule could be implemented as follows: Day One: Breakfast- Nutrient rich foods such as protein-packed greek yogurt with fruit and healthy fat filled nuts. Lunch- Whole wheat sandwich with grilled chicken and side of vegetables with hummus.

Afternoon Snack- A few squares of dark chocolate with a small handful of nuts. Dinner- Fish with a side of brown rice and roasted vegetables. Late Night Snack- Small slice of coffee cake with fruit or one alcoholic drink with friends for a night out. The whole concept behind this model is the inclusion of foods that are not beneficial to the body, but to the soul and mindset, in small and controlled amounts while the rest of the day’s foods provide your body with all of the nutrients and vitamins it needs in order to perform at it’s best. Combined with an exercise routine, this allows for an overall healthy lifestyle. Allowing yourself to indulge in the foods you love while maintaining an overall healthy diet encourages a mindset free of guilt and regret but full of acceptance and confidence. To try implementing the 80/20 rule into your life is simple: Make wise food choices that empower you while allowing yourself to really enjoy those foods that you love on occasion. You are in control of what you put into your body and how you feel… so feel good about what your choices! Summer On Point | 25

Retro Revitalization

We haven’t seen the last of the 80s-90s yet, retro inspired threads are still all the rave this season. The 80s-90s were such an influential period for fashion, the culture behind this time has created trends and styles that have been reimagined throughout the years.

This season we saw many bold plaids and checked prints on array of garments. All with a new twist of course, some of these prints are recreated using vibrant neons and featured on many types of unconventional fabrics. These cold months are going to be filled with jackets paying homage to the era, patent leather trenches, and leather bikers are going to be reemerging rapidly. Structure is also a very important aspect to look forward to in these months, padded shoulders and fitted bodices will be quite apparent. For men specifically vintage polo rugby’s and neon prints are going to be new staples. A bold accessory to make a statement on any outfit is going to be oversized belts, a wild introduction of designer print socks are going to be hitting the markets fast. This coming season is going to bring back our fav styles and introduce us to many new ones.

STUDENT Q&A

COURTNEY PELLEGRINO University: Drexel University Major: Marketing and Psychology with a minor in Retail Extra Curriculars: Retail and Design Club, Drexel Women in Business, Psychology Club Photos by Jason Ignewski

What sparked your love of fashion and style? CP: Surprisingly enough, my Grandmom Pat sparked my love of fashion and style! No matter what kind of event it is, my Grandmom will show up in 5 inch heels, an over-the-top hat, a perfectly matched outfit, and rosy red lips. Whenever anyone meets my Grandmom Pat they are blown away by her sense of style because she is always the best dressed, and she has tried to pass it on to her grandkids. Every year for Christmas, she would gift us all with the most extravagant outfits, and her gifts were usually the highlight of my Christmases, and since then, she has always been the person who I associate my love for fashion and style with. How did you come up with the idea for your fashion IG? CP: If I’m being honest, my blog was for job applications, but after I landed my job at Nordstrom, it ended up being just for fun! I noticed a lot of companies that I was applying to for internships were asking for personal blogs or websites, and since I’m not much of a writer, I wanted my fashion sense to 30 | On Point

Fall

speak for itself so I created __courture__, which is a mix of my name, Courtney, and the word couture. What are your favorite shops? CP: My favorite shops are Free People and Anthropologie! I find their clothes to be very unique and individualistic, and since I tend to wear things that people wouldn’t usually wear in day-to-day life, their clothes always fit the looks that I strive for. Describe your personal style. CP: I would describe my style as very eclectic. I don’t really associate it with one category of fashion because I will honestly wear anything if it looks right. However, I would not describe myself as simple by any means. You will never catch me wearing plain colors, there will always be a pattern or detail on my clothing to make it stand out. Also, I really believe that my style depends heavily on my mood.

What is the best style advice you’ve ever received? CP: Sometimes my fashion can be a little much, and my mom will tell me to take off the last accessory that I put on, which I always think about when I go for an extra hat or piece of jewelry, and honestly it helps! It saves me from overdoing a lot of my looks. What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment? CP: I love the chunky sneaker look! While I do not think that they look good on me personally, I appreciate all the ways that people wear them because I think they look great on people who can pull them off! Where do you find style inspiration? CP: Sometimes I think fashion is repeated on Instagram with a lot of influencers and bloggers, so I actually don’t follow many of them, and instead I look through the lookbooks of bigger fashion companies or department stores to see what’s new and trendy to try and plan what kind of outfits or pieces I’m looking for for the upcoming season. Who was the most shocking person/company to reach out/recognize you? CP: Neutrogena was the most shocking company to reach out to work with me! However, the way I was able to work with them was because a brand backing company discovered my page and asked me to apply to a campaign for Neutrogena. So, I applied and I got the job and was sent promotional products to endorse, which was really cool!

Then, for the event, I planned to wear a pink jumpsuit, but the shoes I wanted to wear broke so I only had purplish/blue shoes to wear with it, and my mom let me borrow a blue coat to kind of match it. So needless to say, the color-blocking of this outfit did not look great and I paired it with black accessories to try to help save the look. However, that ensemble has gone down as my worst outfit within the past couple of years, but now I pack more than necessary in my suitcases to never have it happen again!!

What is your favorite fashion city? Why? CP: My favorite fashion city is Paris because everyone is so elegant, chic, and daring. Also, I love a good beret, and whenever I think of berets I think of Parisians because they can pull them off very well. While I’ve only been to Paris once when I was in high school, I hope I can go back sometime to see how the city’s fashion has changed since then.

Best fashion experience you’ve had? What was it like? CP: My best fashion experience was working as a sales consultant at Nordstrom this past summer in the Via C/Collectors Department. The Via C department is filled with emerging designers like Veronica Beard and Rag & Bone, and the Collectors department carries classic designers like St. John and Burberry. Therefore, I felt as though I was able to immerse myself into higher fashion and understand the reasons behind these brands’ staggering prices. Also, I was able to meet, help, and style so many different people of varying shapes and sizes, which was a great feeling as I was able to make many customers happy and comfortable in clothing. Lastly, I felt that this job helped me realize that the fashion industry is what I want to work in after graduation.

What was your biggest fashion disaster? CP: When I was in Palm Beach last year, there was a car event that I attended, and I wore the least fashionable outfit I have ever worn, but I made it work, somewhat! When I packed for this trip, I only brought two pairs of shoes and a select amount of outfits to save room in my suitcase, which I would never recommend.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? CP: In 10 years I will hopefully be working for a fashion company as an organizational psychologist, helping the company to increase their workplace productivity, or working as brand marketing consultant, helping companies to sell their products more effectively. I haven’t decided which path I want to take yet, but hopefully the next 10 years will lead me to a decision! Fall On Point | 31

Chris Coscia Spring/Fall Transitional Pieces:

Why do so many not see functional clothing as fashion? Transitional clothing that can be worn throughout the seasons are crucial to any closet. Smart buys are pieces you can invest in, they are classic, and very versatile. Whether is ever-changing, and pretty unpredictable. Clothing that can fit different climates are important to have in your wardrobe for sure. A simple thing like layering is going to be super trendy for the colder months this fashion season. Pieces like pre assembled layered garments are going to be offered in the luxury and fast fashion world. These items although pretty trendy are a statement for any outfit. Self layering is a great way to recreate these pieces, a few monochromatic layers of clothing might be a smart way to turn a look this season.

Important closet fillers for these months are gonna be light and heavy sweaters, cardigans and jackets easy to style and be paired. A neutral color pallet is a smart way to keep you clothing interchangeable through the different seasons, tones that are personally compatible with you are key to keeping a solid closet. Pieces to find like a simple jacket or or sweater that maybe on the more pricey side, are sometimes better buys if the quality is better. Adding functional yet stylish clothing to our wardrobes are super important when faced with unpredictable weather throughout the year. Transitional clothing benefits any individual and should be key items in everyones closets.

s you undergo the numerous transitional periods that happen throughout the average lifespan, it is important to reflect on yourself as a whole and look at the bigger picture of your behaviors and actions; are they resulting in positive outcomes? Is every aspect of your life and wellbeing up to your standards? The answers to these questions are essential to the quality of life you are leading. Any answer that is less than desired could be the key component needed in exemplifying an enriched and meaningful lifestyle. So, how do you know which aspect of your life you are lacking in? From personal experience, I promote looking at your life on a holistic scale that encompasses and ensures happiness, security, mortality, consistent internal creativity and growth. In my opinion, cultivating an individual that leads a holistic lifestyle consists of finding 3 hobbies. A hobby that provides income. While money isn’t the key to happiness, it does play a big part in one’s emotional stability. Unfortunate but true, your financial status will ultimately define the level of comfort you have in life. For people who do not particularly like their current main occupation, this is a perfect excuse to find something you love to do that could also make you money. On the other hand, if you currently hold a job that doesn’t make as much money as you would like, this creates an opportunity to increase your income. Occupations are stressful by nature, and a majority of this stress comes from desire to be successful and make sufficient money. I believe everyone should make money by doing something they love—it increases motivation and aids in the belief that an individual’s passion in life can make an impact on their surrounding environment, whatever aspect that may be! A hobby that promotes physical activity. I cannot stress this enough: your physical and internal health is essential to the mortality of your life. More times than not, the biggest aspect an individual is lacking in their life is maintaining a good health status. The majority of this status encompasses physical activity. Finding a hobby that encourages you to be active will significantly increase your chances of longevity. Physical activity keeps you in shape, releases endorphins that uplift your mood, and aids in function of your internal organs. An activity that has gained popularity among the ages is yoga. This practices requires a variety of poses that help build your muscles by maintaining balance and agility while regulating your breathing that allows internal regulation of working systems; a combination breeds a perfect holistic exercise. If yoga isn’t for you, that’s ok!! There are many activities that will keep you active…. (Add: enhances your mental health)

A hobby that keeps stimulates you intellectually and creatively. This hobby is generally the hardest to find as it is an activity that keeps your mind sharp, alert, and functioning. As we age, our brains lose their ability to remember information, recall memories, think critically and creatively. When this happens, chances are increased for developing Alzheimer’s and other collectively devastating diseases that render these characteristics. However, this is my favorite hobby; there are so many activities that could fulfill this role. For the more intellectually inclined individuals, completing crossword puzzles or learning a new language may be the perfect match. However, if you would rather have your creativity shine, cooking, playing an instrument, or painting may be an option for you. Additionally, this hobby is most likely the longest hobby you will keep of the three, as aging will naturally inhibit the other two. Incorporating this hobby into your lifestyle will keep your mind nourished and feeling inspired. Hobbies, by definition, are activities one partakes in during their free time for pleasure. These activities are not meant to be seen as something that one has to do every day, like work, but something that an individual wants to do every day. These hobbies will make your free time, down time, or “you” time in life meaningful and will contribute to the overall status of becoming your best self—a holistic individual. Fall On Point | 37

Meredith Matsakis on Everything DoTERRA

H

aving graduated in May of 2017, Meredith Matsakis is a recent alumnus of High Point University who currently lives on the Upper West Side of New York. While working as a Studio Content Manager at a Lifestyle Studio in Midtown, she decided to turn a passion of hers into an additional revenue stream: becoming an ambassador for a company she admires. Since her original endeavor within DoTERRA, Matsakis has furthered her involvement by starting her own business under the greater brand. Matsakis’ passion for essential oils has led her to DoTERRA, and since joining the company, she has extended her help and knowledge to others even further by creating a business of her own. To get to know more about Meredith and what DoTERRA can offer to the college population, we’ve explored her career within the essential oil industry through a quick Q & A. How did you get started working with DoTERRA Essential Oils? “I have used essential oils since I was eight years old. At a young age, my mother would provide me with Lavender and Peppermint, teaching me how to use these as remedies for stress and social anxiety as opposed to medications. Throughout college, my knowledge regarding essential oils continued to grow and once I moved to New York, I was easily able to cultivate my own wellness community around the oils that I use daily. I was constantly getting questions about my DoTERRA oils and where people could purchase; and it wasn’t long after that I joined the business side of DoTERRA. The belief and passion behind these oil remedies were there and I was excited and motivated to get my business off the ground.” What separates DoTERRA from other essential oil brands? “DoTERRA has the global farm connections worldwide, the support, the love, the business model, the profits, and the available product. 96% of DoTERRA’s oils are exclusive to them, and they work with the purest harvesters all

around the world to receive the plant from its direct origin.” Tell me about the personal company you’ve created and established within DoTERRA, “pEOny”? “Being entrepreneurial, I desired to create a business where I could put my own twist into it, gain sales experience, and also continue to work with a brand I truly believe in. This is how pEOny was born. pEOny stands for purely Essential Oils new york and has changed 400 lives since February. It was born out of a gap I noticed in the marketplace for young millennials and college students wanting to know more about natural health solutions. We host classes- online and in-person- educating those on all things ‘essential oil’. We help people decide at the end of the workshops which oils would best benefit their lifestyle. After purchasing your first oils and joining the pEOny tribe, the additional benefits and help you receive on how to properly incorporate oils into your life are countless. Our tribe is a constant form of inspiration for a wellness lifestyle.” Where does your passion for pEOny come from? “It comes from the fact that so many young people do not realize that they have these natural health solution options. From anxiety and indigestion to acne and insomnia, you can use plants to cure almost any scenario—it’s purely sci-

ence. I truly want to be a trailblazer for this generation’s health and wellness by showing them how accessible and easy it is to use DoTERRA essential oils as natural remedies.” What are the ways in which you use DoTERRA on a daily basis? “It has been my goal in 2018 to reduce the toxic load in my lifestyle, so I’ve cleaned out my bathroom of almost all chemical products. I use DoTERRA’s body wash, the whole Verage Facial Product line, OnGuard Toothpaste and mouthwash, the Balance deodorant and Jasmine as perfume, Lemon oil in my water during work, and Terrazymes to help process my food; the list could go on and on! For skin rejuvenation, I like to make a mud mask as well containing Frankincense, Melaleuca and Lavender. Before bed, I try to release the stress I have accumulated throughout the day by diffusing Serenity oil, the Restful blend. I’ll also rub Deep Blue, the Soothing blend, on the bottom of my feet and Copaiba oil on my chest to help calm my muscles and promote deep breathing.” How has DoTERRA changed your mental, emotional and physical well-being? “I have never felt so on top of my game. The Lifelong Vitality Pack supplements give me overall body health every day, the face products make my skin glow, and my water even tastes better when I add a drop of grapefruit or lime. Above all, I am able to inspire and change people’s lives, making me feel even better in context to my own life’s purpose. When people tell me that they are now able to sleep without drugs, that their anxiety has decreased, that their gut health has improved, and that they are losing weight, I get the biggest smile on my face.” Absolute favorite product? “My Lifelong Vitality Pack. They are three gel capsules (Micro Plex VMz, Alpha CRS+, xEO Mega) that I take daily and are the best supplements that I have ever tried. I can feel the difference in my energy levels and focus on the days I take it and the days I don’t.” Do you have anything else you’d like to share with our readers? “If students are interested in getting involved with oils and doTERRA, I would encourage them to reach out. I love working with people, as well as budgets, to find what works best for each individual, particularly college-aged students. If you are interested in getting involved on my team, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at meredithmatsakis@gmail.com.”
