he coming days leading up to Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle promise to be nothing less than frenetic. After all, the formal engagement of HRH Henry of Wales to American celebrity Meghan Markle announced on Monday, November 27, 2017, brings to mind a modern day fairytale. Prince meets girl. Prince courts girl. Girl enchants Prince. Prince proproses marriage - with a stunning ring no less. Girl says yes! Sure there are a few missing lines between my basic narrative but at the end of the day, Ms. Meghan Markle is a stunning, sophisticated and accomplished Royal-to-be. Who would have thought that a year ago their whirlwind courtship would begin with a blind-date meeting while Prince Harry was in Toronto, Canada? It also happens that Meghan lives in Canada when filming the legal television drama “Suits” where she plays character Rachel Zane. From the moment of their initial blind date, the two were literally inseparable having been spotted at initimate dinners in the Soho House in West London, public tennis matches and the like. What’s more, Queen Elizabeth II has given the couple her blessing. There is so much that the world has already learned about this actress, activist and

humanitarian and yet, there’s so much more to know. For example, activism is in Meghan’s DNA. At 11 years old, she initiatied change against sexism in the media with a letter writing campaign focused on ad marketing perspectives about women at Proctor and Gamble. As an adult, Meghan later went on to work as a women’s rights activist for the United Nation’s Women’s Political Participation and Leadership program. As a humanitarian, she’s given of her time to support America’s enlisted serviceman at United Service Organizations (USO) events by performing side-by-side with other celebrities in military bases around the world. On a lighter note, she’s a calligrapher, fashionista and yoga, according to Meghan “is her thing.” Add to these qualities, she’s an excellent cook. How do we know this? Prince Harry proposed to Ms. Markle, getting down on one knee, while she was in the midst of preparing a scrumptious chicken dinner for the two of them. Never has the adage “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, ever been more true. Congratulations to the happy couple. The month of May is a lovely wedding pick. Now, on to the gown...

The Downton Abbey pop-up exhibition puts on display the intricate costumes, props and screen sets from the award-winning nighttime television drama. Feminist reboot: return of the ‘pussycat’ bow

he ‘pussycat’ bow has had it’s share of lives since it first came on the fashion scene in the 19th century starting with the Edwardian Gibson Girl Era. Throughout the decades, designers like Omar Kiam, Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent incorporated the iconic garment into their fashion collections making it one of the most recognizable items in women’s work wear. By the 1970’s and 80’s it became a signature piece that represented the feminist movement. The look is virtually a softer version of a man’s necktie without having to wear one. It was

at one point considered essential dressing for woman’s business attire as ladies began their ascent up the corporate ladder. For 2018, designers are making a statement by bringing back soft feminist dressing for resort/spring. Collections presented a variety of blouse dressing in soft and bright hues and in a range of widths and prints. The runway showed rigid bows and those with flounce usually paired with pants, rigid collared shirts or blazers. It’s the ‘purr-fect’ addition to any suited look.
