All autograph material in this sale is guaranteed genuine for the life of the original purchaser (unless otherwise stated or if contrary to other provisions of these terms). Any autograph item sold which is determined to be not authentic by two independent dealers or authenticators acceptable to both parties to the sale may be returned by the original buyer at any time for an immediate refund of the purchase price (only). Non-autograph items are guaranteed genuine for a period of twenty-one (21) days of receipt. Any declarations of lack of authenticity by any party must be made in writing Items may also be returned if the catalog description differs signifi cantly from the item’s actual state; such returns must be made within three (3) days of purchaser’s receipt of the lot(s). All returned lots must be in the same condition as shipped. All items are in very good condition unless stated otherwise.

All Lots sold by One Of A Kind Collectibles are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. On any lot presented with a Certificate of Authenticity (“COA”) issued by One Of A Kind Collectibles, that warranty insures only to the original Bidder (as shown in Auctioneer’s records) “Bidder”. Bidder may not transfer the rights afforded under the COA and it is null and void when Bidder transfers or attempts to transfer the lot. The COA warranty is valid from date of the auction in which Bidder was awarded the lot to five (5) years after its purchase. The COA warranty is valid as to its attribution to the person or entity described or to the lot’s usage. The Bidder as well as their heirs, successors and assigns is also given an unconditional lifetime guaranteed that allows the present owner of any lot purchased through One Of A Kind Collectibles the right to consign with One Of A Kind Collectibles. When the lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (or its equivalent) from a third-party authentication provider, buyer has no right of return. On lots not accompanied by third-party authentication or under extremely limited circumstances not including authenticity (e.g. gross cataloging error), a Bidder who did not bid from the floor may request Auctioneer to evaluate voiding a sale; such request must be made in writing detailing the alleged gross error, and submission of the lot to Auctioneer must be preapproved by Auctioneer. A Bidder must notify the appropriate department head in writing of the Bidder’s request within three (3) days of the bidder’s receipt of the lot. Any lot that is to be evaluated for return must be received at the office of One Of A Kind Collectibles within 35 days after Auction. AFTER THAT 35 DAY PERIOD, NO LOT MAY BE RETURNED FOR ANY REASONS. Lots returned must be in the same condition as when sold and must include any Certificate of Authenticity. If a bidder wishes to challenge the Letter of Authenticity within the five (5) year warranty period, Bidder must present with the claim, authoritative written evidence that the lot is not authentic as determined by a known expert

in the field. If Auctioneer concurs that the lot is not as represented, Bidder shall be refunded their purchase price. If the Auctioneer denies the claim, the Bidder may file the dispute with the American Arbitration Association with locale in Miami Florida, Dade County, before a single selected Arbitrator selected by the American Arbitration Association. The American Arbitration Association arbitration shall be conducted under the provisions of the Federal Arbitration Act and the Bidder consents to jurisdiction in The State of Florida. The challenge to Authenticity must be brought within one (1) year if the Auctioneer denies the claim. After one (1) year, the Bidder hereby releases and discharges One Of A Kind Collectibles from any and all legal, equitable, administrative and/or other claims, counterclaims, demands, setoffs, defenses, accounts, suits, debts, dues, actions, causes of action, proceedings, arbitrations, damages, executions, judgments, findings, controversies and disputes, whether known or unknown or suspected or unsuspected, whether in law or equity, that the Bidder have or may have had against One Of A Kind Collectibles arising from or relating to any claim whatsoever. Specifically, the COA provided by One Of A Kind Collectibles, does not provide for incidental or consequential damages or other indirect damages. Any lot sold with a certificate of authenticity or other warranty from an entity other than Auctioneer is subject to such issuing entity’s rules and such conditions are the sole remedy afforded to Bidder. For information as to third party authentication warranties the bidder is directed to contact One Of A Kind Collectibles.

We have tried to accurately describe every item in this catalog. Condition description ranges are: fair, good, very good and fi ne. Fair being the lowest level and fi ne being the best condition. Substantial defects are noted; minor defects may not be mentioned. If any substantial defect not described in the catalog is discovered by the purchaser, the lot must be returned within two days. The Arbitrator shall be empowered to order specifi c performance and to award consequential damages and pre-award interest, but shall not be empowered to award punitive damages. The arbitration shall be governed by the U.S. Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. 1-16, and judgment upon the award rendered by the Arbitrator may be entered by any court having jurisdiction thereof. Each party shall bear its own attorney’s fees and expenses in connection with such proceedings and shall bear one-half of the Arbitrator’s fees and expenses.

These Conditions of Sale shall bind the successor and assigns of all bidders and purchasers and insure to the benefi t of our successors and assigns. No waiver, amendment or modifi cation of the terms hereof shall bind us unless specifi cally stated in a writing signed by us. If any part of these Conditions of Sale is for any reason invalid or unenforceable, the rest shall remain valid and enforceable.

U.S. PRESIDENTS 1. James Monroe Privateer Signed Document. War–dated DS as secretary of state, signed “Jas. Monroe,” one page, 7.75 x 7.5, no date but circa 1812. Printed State Department circular issued “by command of the President of the United States of America.” In part: “The public and private armed vessels of the United States are not to interrupt any vessels belonging to citizens of the United States coming from British ports to the United States laden with British merchandize, in consequence of the alledged repeal of the British Orders in Council, but are on the contrary to give aid and assistance to the same; in order that such vessels and their cargoes may be dealt with on their arrival as may be decided by the competent authorities.” In fine condition, with expected document wear, soiling to upper right, and a small hole below the heading. The US Congress declared war on Great Britain on June 18, 1812, as the result of several diplomatic conflicts, including the British 'Orders in Council,' a series of decrees that restricted American trade with France. At the same time, the British were in the process of repealing the Orders in Council, which was finalized on June 23. Word of the repeal did not reach President James Madison until August 12, but he refused to halt hostilities because he did not know how Britain had reacted to the declaration of war. However, he did issue this instruction in response to the "alledged repeal," ordering naval and privateering ships to assist, rather than obstruct, any American-owned ships bringing British goods back to the United States, and that the cargo is to be dealt with on arrival. A fascinating presidential document from the country’s early days of naval warfare.

2. Abraham Lincoln Legal Brief. Handwritten endorsement at the bottom of a lightly-lined 7.75 x 6.25 page, “And the pl[ainti]ff doth the like—Pearson & Lincoln p.q.,” dated April 1832. Legal brief regarding the case of Metcalf vs. Bennett in which the defendant, through his attorney Cooper, claims that he is “not guilty of the said supposed several trespasses,” as alleged in Lincoln’s handwritten endorsement at the conclusion.

Two horizontal folds, with small old tape repairs to both on reverse, a bit of scattered mild toning and foxing, and a small brush to end portion of text, otherwise fine condition.

Accompanied by a complete typescript from the Lincoln Library in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, This document was originally a part of the Henry E. Luhrs collection. This case was among the very last that Lincoln addressed before being called to arms as a captain in the Illinois Militia. On April 5, 1832, nearly 1,000 Black Hawk Indian warriors and civilians crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois in an attempt to reclaim their land. In defense of the state, the 23-year-old Lincoln, who had recently announced his candidacy for the Illinois House of Representatives, responded to the governor's call for volunteer militia. Luhrs, one of the former owners of this document, was a well-known collector from the 1930s to 1960 who purchased items from the most famed autograph dealers of the day.

Min Bid $500, EST: $3,200 and up 3. Andrew Johnson Rare Handwritten Letter. ALS 1page 4to, {Washington},'House Of Res." May 22, 1850. To William M. Lowry in Greenville, Tenn.. Fine condition. A Beleaguered postmaster. In this unpublished letter, Congressman Johnson sheds fresh light on post office politics of the 19th century. While still a senator Johnson was instrumental in winning Lowry appointment as postmaster in the East Tennessee town of Greenville, where Johnson had settled in 1826.Lowry enjoyed his position until the Whigs in 1849 returned to presidential office, meant that his tenure was endangered. By then however Johnson was in the U.S. House to defend the interest of his friend in the Greenville post office. Here is where Johnson writes about his efforts to outwit his Whig enemies:" Since writing

you before Mr. Jno Bell[Whig Leader in Tennessee] at the instance of Wm. D. Williams [a Greenville Whig Merchant and political foe of Johnson] has made a move for your expulsion from office-Warren the 2nd assistant this moment informed me of the fact, and informed me that nothing would be done till the P M Genereal has an interview with me on the subject, which will be this morning-" Johnson confides his strategy in this meeting with the postmaster General Collamer:"I intend to have Bell present if possible-the PMG does not in my opinion to make a removal at all but if they determine to make one hazards, I will try and defeat Vance[David G. Vance, a Greenville innkeeper]-if the thing is done by Bell will be the responsible man..."Johnson plan worked temporally until later when President Fillmore got in office and appointed a new Postmaster General, who wanted to do a clean sweep.

5. President Benjamin Harrison as civil war era lawyer. Harrison, Benjamin. Three 1-page Manuscript Legal Documents. The one for Phlip McNabb vs William Coquilltal is handwritten and signed by Harrison as "Porter, Harrison & Fishback it is endorsed on verso Sept. 23, 1869;. The other two briefs we do not believe are written or signed by Harrison they are signed(as "Harrison & Fishback, Attys for Deft." and "Wallace & Harrison Attys for Deff."), Marion County, Indiana, docketing notes on verso dated Feb. 13, 1862 and Sept.

23, 1869; All three involve civil suits in which Harrison and his partners were counsel for the defendants.

In 1858, 25 yearold Benjamin Harrison opened his first law office in Indianapolis in partnership with William Wallace. When Wallace was elected County Clerk in 1860, Harrison found a new partner in William Fishback, who maintained their office while Harrison, having won his first elective office as Reporter of the Indiana Supreme Court, went off to fight in the Civil War. These three documents date from Harrison's legal work, before, during, and after the Civil War - the second written just four months before he went into uniform, serving as Colonel of the 70th Indiana Infantry in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. Written and signed by Harrison. Legal papers written by Harrison as a young lawyer have become scarce since a small group of such documents were sold in the 1970s; only a few have appeared at auction in the past thirty years.

7. Garrett Horbart Letter - VP. Garret Augustus Hobart (June 3, 1844 – November 21, 1899) was the 24th Vice President of the United States (1897–1899), serving under President William McKinley.

U.S. PRESIDENTS 9. Theodore Roosevelt Moving Signed Letter. To the Father whose son’s career of brilliant promise has been cut short TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, January 22, 1906. Letter to Lieutenant Commander A. L. Key., in full: “Will you present to Colonel Avery my thanks and regards for his kindness in sending me the volume, which of course I appreciate even more than I in any event should because I know so well what it means to the father whose son’s career of brilliant promise has been cut short.

I anticipate reading it.” In very good to fine condition, with rusty paper clip mark to upper left corner, and scattered foxing primarily to margins. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and the aforesaid volume, Idle Comments by Isaac Erwin Avery. Also accompanied by correspondence between the recipient, the father of the author, A. C. Avery, and a North Carolinian businessman named Julian Carr. As the city editor for the Charlotte Observer, Isaac Erwin Avery earned considerable publicity for his Monday morning editorials, Variety of Idle Comments, for which the included book chronicles. What Makes this letter incredibly moving is it is about the loss of Colonel Avery' son at the age of thirty-three, Roosevelt refers to the "cut short". 10 years later Roosevelt's youngest son son died during a air fight in World War 1, when Quentin a fighter pilot was shot down by a German Fokker Plane over France.

10. Rare Signed Lincoln-Douglas Debates Signed by William Howard Taft. Volume 1 of the Lincoln-Douglass debates of 1858, from the collection of the Illinois State library, bound in fine red Moroccan leather beautifull volume with the signatures of president William Howard Taft and many members of the Lincoln Centennial Association.

13. Franklin D. Roosevelt Ask's Walker to become Chairman of the DNC. This is a fantastic letter in which Franklin D. Roosevelt asks Frank Walker to become the Democratic chairman for his new campaign in starting 1943. On White House stationary, 7" x 9", dated January 9, 1943, in Full: Dear Frank: I realize that I have asked a great deal of you to ask over the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee. I understand that you can only do it for the next six months, but in that time, I am sure you will get the Committee reorganized and help us find a new Chairman.As ever "Franklin D. Roosevelt" , The Honorable, The Postmaster General, Washington, D.C.. Roosevelt’s Chairman for the previous 2 campaigns was James Fraley the previous Postmaster General and a powerful Democratic boss. Farley did not believe in Roosevelt running for president a third time and broke away from Roosevelt in 1940 when he found out about Roosevelt’s aspirations. Walker, did take the position of DNC until 1944, when he was succeeded by Robert Hannegan.

Frank Comerford Walker (May 30, 1886 – September 13, 1959) was an American lawyer and politician. He served as the United States Postmaster General between 1940 and 1945. He also served as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1943 until 1944. in 1940, Walker became Postmaster General (succeeding James Farley, who had also been DNC Chairman and Roosevelt's campaign manager). As Postmaster General, Walker continued his role as political adviser, often taking part in matters far removed from the Post Office.

Roosevelt"Handwritten letters and messages by FDR as president are exceedingly rare, and any messages to cabinet members are even more desirable., this example is of the utmost desirability and would benefit from more research to determine exactly what FDR is referring to.

Morgenthau and Roosevelt had been friends since 1913 and had served together in New York state government before FDR was elected president. Even though Morgenthau, an orthodox economist, was a controversial choice for Treasury Secretary in 1934, he was loyal to Roosevelt and the New Deal and retained his office until 1945. His son, Robert M. Morgenthau, is currently District Attorney of New York County.

Original color 16" x 20" Bust Portrait of President Harry Truman, Oil Painting on Canvas, boldly Signed "Lawrence Williams" by artist in lower right hand corner in bright red and housed within a gold colored wood frame with cloth matting. Overall measuring about 24" x 28". Lawrence Williams (died 2003) was considered a master portrait artist and was famous for portraits that caught the spirit of his subjects as well as their likeness. He was particularly known for his portraits of United States Presidents and First Ladies. In the fall of 1974, Williams became interested, with the approaching American Bi-Centennial celebration, in painting a series of oil portraits of the Presidents of the United States.

These paintings were painted from official photographs Williams obtained from the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The 38 original oil portraits of the presidents

by Williams were given to the Colorado Department of Education in 1977. After circulating throughout public schools across Colorado, the collection was placed on the third floor rotunda and unveiled as the Gallery of Presidents on Colorado Day, 1982.Over the years, Williams painted 2 additional sets of presidents and first ladies from Washington through Clinton. These are now in various museums and a very few came into the hands of private collectors.

Ernouf. Genral Jean Augustin Ernouf was a French general and colonial administrator of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars.

He held several posts as chief-of-staff and in military administration.

In 1804, Napoleon I appointed him as governor general of the French colony in Saint-Domingue and Guadeloupe, following the suppression of a widespread slave insurrection. Although he was able to reestablish some semblance of order and agricultural production, the British overwhelmed the colony in 1810 and, after a brief engagement, forced him to capitulate.After the second restoration, he held an administrative position in one of the occupation zones, and later he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of France. fine condition 8" x 11"

27. Extremely Rare Napoleon Handwritten Note. Rare autograph note of Napoleon (17691821), Emperor of France, on letter from Count Louis Mole (1781-1855).

The Count, a member of the Council of State, writes Napoleon from Paris on March 31,1811, expressing concern that owing to lack of funds the work on the Cher canal is about to be suspended. Mole asks for confirmation of the decision and blames the problem on the owners not abiding by the original decree to provide the sinking fund. Napoleon's note instructs that the matter be referred to the Interior Ministry to suggest means of supplementing the money and helping the owner who only has a local interest in it. Count Mole was an important advisor to Napoleon, especially on ''Jewish affairs," where he advocated repeal of Jewish "emancipation," citing complaints about ''Jewish evil." (Kenneth Rendell in the section on Napoleon in his History Comes to Life,says "His handwritten letters from any period are extremely rare and virtually unobtainable.") 8" x 13"

Extremely rare matte-finish 6.75 x 10.75 photo of Villa in full uniform, prominently signed in ink, “Francisco Villa.” Reverse bears a collector’s notation in pencil, “Given to Maj. Aultman by Villa—1915. They had met while then Maj. Aultman was at Fort Bliss, Texas.”

In very good condition, with trimmed edges, clipped corner tips, a small repaired tear to top edge, and a fleck of surface loss to the left of the signature. Accompanied by a small framed vintage photograph of Aultman, several newspaper clippings, an oversized vintage photograph of the USS General Dwight E. Aultman, and a cardstock advertisement for the christening of the ship. This portrait shows Villa during the Mexican Revolution around the time he was making the autobiographical film The Life of General Villa with D. W. Griffith. The unusual film incorporated authentic footage from actual battles and staged scenes and starred Pancho Villa himself. Extremely rare in this format.. During the Spanish-American War, Aultman was a part of the Battle of San Juan Hill in 1898, as well as the Siege of Santiago in Cuba. From December 1898 to January 1899, he was aide to General Lloyd Wheaton and later General Joseph Warren Keifer. From 1901 to 1906 Aultman organized, commanded, and instructed the Cuban artillery. From 1914-1915 he was on special mission to Germany. Aultman retired as an instructor and graduated from the Army War College in 1916. In 1917 he wrote a book entitled Military Strength and Resources of the United States. From October 1917 to May 1918, Aultman commanded the Fifth Field Artillery Brigade, First Infantry Division. On April 18, 1918 he was promoted to Brigadier general of the National Army and later commanded the 51st Field Artillery Brigade, 26th Division. At the time, the province consisted of a small group of British merchants, and a large French-Catholic majority.

During his three years in office, Maseres managed to offend both the merchants and the military, at the same time doing his best to prevent the exercise of Catholicism. Tensions came to a head in February 1769 when the governor rejected his long-awaited report on methods of reconciling French and English law, and granted his attorney-general indefinite leave which Maseres accepted to pursue mathematical studies (at which he was more successful).

Revolutionary era statesman, military officer signed this handwritten, two-page document 'Abner Bagley,' twice, on both sides of this 7¼"x9¼" Aug 27 1799, Oath of allegiance to Commonwealth of Massachusetts & the United States. In part: '...the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is, and of right ought to be a free sovereign and independent State...I do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the said Commonwealth, and that I will defend the same against traitorous conspiracies....' 52. [Hancock, John]. An interesting 6" x 7.5" receipt dated November 16, 1796 bought of Thomas and John Hancock for the purchase of a Cask and says that they paid in full. Not signed but unusual little receipt related to the Hancock.Thomas Hancock (July 17, 1703 – August 1, 1764) was a merchant in colonial Boston.

He got his start in the book trade, and expanded into importing and exporting throughout the British Empire.

He was also a smuggler, evading the British Navigation Acts by trading with Holland, which was forbidden.

Thanks to lucrative contracts with the British government during King George's War and the Seven Years' War, Hancock became one of Boston's wealthiest men. When his health failed, he passed his business and fortune to his nephew, future Founding Father John Hancock, whom he had raised since John was thirteen.

Signer of the U.S. Constitution from Pennsylvania (1749– 1822) who also ran unsuccessfully as the Federalist vice-presidential candidate in the 1812 election.

DS, 8.25" x 12", November 11, 1815.This document is an indictment that he signed as attorney general against a Henry Clarke for stealing items.

The documents top portion is detached, and there is some staining in slight discoloration, but does not effect the signature which is in good condition.

In part: “In reference to the criticism by Chaplain Denison you had the kindness to send me, I would like to correct the Roster of the 2d. R. I. Infantry. Did Colonel Horatio Rogers command it at Gettysburg? I will substitute your name as leading the advance on the retreat from Middleburg instead of that of Captain Bixbie. The account I gave if I remember rightly was taken in a great measure from reports in The Rebellion Record…I would like to purchase the work referred to in the criticism called Sabres and Spurs. If it is for sale in your town, would it be asking too much to have you forward it to me at Morristown N. J. by express marked C. O. D.…I hardly know where to look for an account of the charge of the 2d. R. I. Infantry at Salem Heights but will try and find the official report of the Colonel if it is published…I consulted General Newton and General Shaler in reference to the operations of the 6th Corps.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature.

54. George Pickett (Pickett's Charge). Virginia-born military officer (1825–1875) who fought with distinction during the Mexican-American War, resigning his commission to join the Confederate forces shortly after the beginning of the Civil War. Rising to the rank of Confederate brigadier general within a year, a division led by Pickett arrived on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. In an attack that would come to be immortalized as ‘Pickett’s Charge,’ more than half of the Confederate forces were wiped out. ALS signed “G. E. Pickett, Capt. 9th Infy, Comg Co. D,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 9.75, July 4, 1856. Brief letter to Colonel H. K. Craig, Chief of Ordnance of the U. S. Army. In full: “I have the honor to enclose the return of Ordnance & ordnance stores pertaining to Compy ‘D’ 9th Infy. For the 2nd Quarter 1856.” Nicely double matted and framed with a seated portrait of Pickett and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 25.25 x 25. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and some scattered light toning and soiling. Pickett began serving with the 9th U.S. Infantry in Texas and in 1855 was promoted to captain in the regiment. The year of this letter, he was dispatched the Pacific Northwest to quell tensions between white settlers and Native Americans. He would command the construction of Fort Bellingham on Bellingham Bay in Washington Territory, where he would learn the Chinook language and become sensitive to the predicament of the local Indians. In Washington, Pickett married Morning Mist, a Native American woman of the Haida tribe, who would give birth to his son, James Tilton Pickett. A fine example. 77. SILAS WEIR MITCHELL (physician). SILAS WEIR MITCHELL Autograph Letter signed circa 1906 Autograph Letter signed: "Weir/Mitchell", 1 pages, 7½x5½, in refrence to a meeting with a Mr. Adams. American physician and author Silas Weir Mitchell (1829-1914) was a specialist in the study and treatment of neurological disorders. During the American Civil War, Mitchell was in charge of nervous injuries at Turners Lane Hospital in Philadelphia. The author of a number of medical texts, including Injuries of Nerves and Their Consequences (1872) and Fat and Blood (1877), Mitchell also wrote short stories and such historical novels as Hugh Wynne, Free Quaker (1897), The Adventures of François (1898) and The Red City (1909). Mitchell prescribed "rest cures" for a variety of nervous disorders, including what was called at the time "female hysteria." One of his patients was Charlotte Perkins Gilman, whose 1892 short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" - now considered a feminist classic - is narrated by a woman driven insane by her "rest cure."4" x 7"

He stayed at the Pearmain household at 388 Beacon Street for at least two weeks during one of his trips to Boston, and later claimed to have found a cure for indigestion in Mrs. Pearmain’s cooking.

Foss (June 19, 1858 February 26, 1911) was an American librarian and poet whose best known works included The House by the Side of the Road and The Coming American. On Summerville Public Library letterhead, titled "The House by the Side of the Road", signed "Sam Walter Foss", dated "Dec. 19, 1899". “Let me live in my house by the side of the road Where the race of men go by- They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong, Wise, foolish- so am I. Then why should I sit in the scorner’s seat Or hurl the cynic’s ban?Let me live in my house by the side of the road And be a friend to man Sincerely Yours, Sam Walter Foss” For many years the opening lines from Foss's The Coming American ("Bring me men to match my mountains / Bring me men to match my plains / Men with empires in their purpose / And new eras in their brains") were inscribed on a granite wall at the United States Air Force Academy to inspire cadets and officers, but they were removed in 2003 to harmonize in perception to the Air Force Academy's having become coeducational. Unusual Zane Grey letter from 1904 and is address to Lina E. Roth, his wife's name before they were married. It is a six page handwritten letter starting with some flower drawings and then many interesting passages showing a wide range of emotion, such as "Well, well, I never thought you were downright cruel until that last letter", "I have always known that selfishness and jealous (however confined to me alone) were your great faults", "I'm afraid Dolly I grow less conceited the longer I know you...but I'm gradually becoming humble. I suppose you will ruin me, and then get sore I was so easily moulded". He goes on to tell her he has learned a lot in his stay in Columbus, Ohio of some of his relatives and will share it with her when he sees her. The weather is hot, tells her he was hurt on how they left each other at the station when he departed and about writing him he says "Do as you like" and signed "Doc".

Becher practiced photography as well and in 1902 he participated in the first exhibition of the Photo-Secession, a group of pictorialist photographers selected by Alfred Steiglitz. In 1908, Appleton's Magazine sent Becher to London where he sketched the Elgin Marbles at the British Museum. While in Europe he took the opportunity to study oil painting with the German artist Otto Leopold Strutzel. Becher's career spanned 40 years, during which he illustrated for many of the leading magazines of the day including Collier's Weekly, McCall's, Ladies' Home Journal, Scribner's Magazine and Pictorial Review. He used drawing media such as carbon or charcoal pencil for many of his illustrations but also worked in large scale oil painting. He sometimes painted landscapes. Many of his works had allegorical themes.

The leg from Fiji was 34 hours over the open Pacific, during which time the plane was in near constant contact by radio, making it the first successful use of radio on a long distance flight.

The Southern Cross at last touched down in Queensland on the 9 June, completing the first successful flight from the mainland United States to Australia The crew's pioneering aviation achievement made them instant celebrities during a Golden Age of aviation exploration. The later disappearances, on separate expeditions, of both Smith and Ulm, contributes to the scarcity of material related to this landmark of aviation.

Worst Airship Disaster in History: USS Akron The Akron was a flying aircraft carrier designed to provide longdistance scouting in support of fleet operations of the United States Navy. The crash killed Rear Admiral William A. Moffett, Chief of the Navy’s Bureau of Aeronautics and a leading figure in America’s rigid airship program. Along with 73 of the 76 men on board, and two additional men were killed when the Navy’s J-3 blimp crashed during a rescue mission to search for Akron survivors.

This beautiful document was given to Sergeant Joseph Forsythe of the New York police, for the rescue efforts and heroism shown in going out on a dangerous and stormy day to search for any survivors of the Akron. He and a Sergeant Joseph Forsythe were sent to help search for survivors of the downed Navy dirigible, Akron.

Then a Navy airship AJ 3 involved in the rescue effort also crashed offshore. Although they did not find any survivors from the Akron in their search, he did spot and save 5 crew men from a smaller air ship the AJ 3. The AJ3 crew crashed off Beach Haven, April 4. The two recovered a five-man crew in their amphibious plane.

Unable to take off in the 8-foot waves and strong winds, Kafka taxied the plane to shore. For his heroics, Sergeant Joseph Forsythe received the Navy Medal, a citation from the Secretary of the Treasury and this certificate from the Ligue Internationale des Aviateurs, a prestigious group of world-famous fliers, signed by Charles Lindbergh and others, below is a partial list.. Vintage 8 x 10 photo of Earhart posing in front of her plane along with Hollywood stunt pilot and flight instructor Paul Mantz and Lockheed test pilot Marshall Headle, signed in black ink, “Amelia Earhart,” “Paul Mantz,” and “Marshall Headle.”. Some scattered light surface marks and creases, and some light irregular adhesion to signatures, otherwise fine condition. In 1935, about the time this image was captured, Mantz was serving as technical advisor for Earhart’s transpacific flight—the one in which she became the first person to complete a transoceanic flight from Hawaii to California. Charles W. "Speed" Holman (December 27, 1898 – May 17, 1931) was a stunt pilot, barnstormer, wing walker, parachutist, airmail pilot, aviation record holder and airline pilot. An uncommon letter from Sir James George Frazer 1 January 1854 – 7 May 1941),who was a Scottish social anthropologist influential in the early stages of the modern studies of mythology and comparative religion. Berlioz neatly pens seven bars from the ‘Love Scene’ of his magnificent large-scale choral symphony Romeo et Juliette. In fine condition, with light stains to blank areas and toning to the perimeter, all of which could be matted out for a fabulous display. Funded by a generous gift of 20,000 francs from virtuoso violinist Niccolo Paganini, Berlioz’s decadelong endeavor to realize the Shakespearean tragedy came to fruition before a full audience at Paris’s Odeon Theatre on November 24, 1839. This is an original "KC and the Sunshine Band" performance worn costume that was worn on stage by KC (Harry Wayne Casey), circa 1975. This detailed jacket has amazing work in it, with Parrots and jewels and beads adorning the jacket on all sides and sleeves. The Jacket has on the lable sewed in his initials H.C. [Harry Casey] and is paired with incredible pants that make you remember the disco age. This significant vintage disco- era piece from the late 1970's, is a true emblem of that period. Grammy winning KC and the Sunshine Band, who rode the crest of the disco wave with such mega hits at "Shake, Shake, Shake (Shake Your Booty)","Your Boogie" and "(That's the Way) I Like It" were known for their live performances which was made up of a band consisting of a horn section, percussion, guitar, back-up singers and KC (Harry Wayne Casey) as lead singer and keyboardist. This costume is comprised of the jacket and a pair of green flare pants with elaborate studding and rhinestones throughout. One leg features a large green parrot and the other the moon and stars. The top is a green jacket with a large collar edged with studs, with a star shaped stud at each end and elaborate studded cuffs with large round buttons. The round metal studs and stars are featured throughout the jacket and the back of the jacket features incredibly delicate green parrots that have been carefully sewed on, with the studs and stars sprinkled throughout.

The front of the jacket bears the stitched green parrots as well, with rhinestones, and the other side is edged in studs and features six large stars surrounded by rhinestones.An incredible piece and reminder from that Disco period.The Pants are fantastic condition, the Jacket is in good condition as well, although some of the area of the Parrots has spots where the threads are showing the base color underneath. This outfit would look amazing in any display.

Didrikson is now considered by all sports associations as one of the greatest athletes in the 20th Century if not for any reasons her accomplishments in no less than 5. "Babe" Didrikson was an American athlete who achieved a great deal of success in golf, basketball and track and field. She won two gold medals in track and field at the 1932 Summer Olympics, before turning to professional golf and winning 10 LPGA major championships. This amazing archive is from Bruce Lee's mentor and friend Jimmy Lee. Jimmy Lee is rarer than Bruce Lee in signed items since he passed away before Bruce in 1972. Jimmy was a very important part of Lee's life and was one of only three students Bruce Lee certified as instructors in his system. When Lee's martial arts school on Broadway closed after two years, Bruce Lee and Jimmy Lee opened a martial-arts studio in the garage of Jimmy Lee’s home. Bruce Lee, his wife and son Brandon also lived there. This archive has a number of rare period items from Jimmy, a photo signed by Jimmy showing him breaking bricks, with the highlight of this archive being a letter written shortly after two fights Bruce Lee had, one fight has become legend when Bruce wanted to teach Caucasians which was an issue with the close nit martial art masters in the area with one proposing a match. The fight between Lee and Wong Jack Man, a master took place in Oakland behind closed doors in December of 1964. The fight had very few people present, but one of the witnesses present was Jimmy Lee, his partner and friend. This lot which has come straight from the consignor who was in communication with Jimmy and Bruce Lee about their school. The consignor was even invited by Bruce to be one of his first students. In response to a question about the fight, Jimmy wrote this first hand account which lays to rest some details about this famous fight. The letter is on Jimmy’s School stationary reads in part: “Dear Gene, Bruce Lee was challenged by black belt karate instructor.. Bruce refuse to fight then & there not-dignify.. But every time Japanese instructor see Bruce he renew ….After a few weeks of avoiding fight Bruce got tired of Karate instructor tactics of begging him. Match was arranged at YMCA Seattle... As witness match lasted 14 seconds, Bruce send the karate man to hospital for stitches to his side of face- around 12 stitches- no skull was broken-but lot of bleeding-. Bruce was recently challenged by G. Fu man from Hong Kong –took place at the gym-the other man had to give up after about 2 minutes with a Black eye, swollen lips ect.” The collection also has a rare period signed photo showing Jimmy breaking roman bricks and thanks consignor for sending a photo of himself employing some of the techniques and writes” Thank you for letting me use your photo for my book, Jimmy”. On the back of the photo Jimmy writes; “Back fist [Chinese Characters] against 3 1 ½” roman bricks, good luck to you in the service. I was in 716th tank BN during WWll J.” The lot also has some very rare kung fu books written by Jimmy, in which there is an actual photo of the consignor. 1st 1962 Modern Kung Fu Karate Iron Poison hand training books 1 part A and part 1 B, both very rare books.

Fantastic group of 18th & mid 19th century letters, almost all written to Ferdinand II Kings of the Two Sicilies, who ruled from 1830 until his early death in 1859. This group came from the same estate as the George lll and Maximilian letters seen in this auction. This lot is made up of 7 letters written from what is believed to be heads of state and rulers from different countries. There are letters from Romania, Uruguay, Venice and other locations. The letters are in fine condition and are untranslated. This lot is worthy of more research.
