When hotelier Jay Sarno made his first trip to Las Vegas in February 1963, he saw the lack of first-class accommodations as an opportunity to build something grand and majestic— a resort where the guest was the center of attention.

With 1960s America captivated with Greco-Roman culture: Ben Hur and Cleopatra were huge successes at the box office and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was a Broadway hit, Sarno believed a Roman-themed hotel would be ideal. So he built Caesars Palace, a 14-story, 680-room hotel, which at the time of its opening was the most expensive casino ever constructed. Now more than fifty years later, Caesars Palace is opening its second-ever resort location in Dubai.

I am at a place where I have lived long enough to write so many songs that have captured important parts of my life. I want to put on a show that represents the journey that I’ve been on and share something that’s quite nostalgic, because the songs span many different years.

Can you explain that journey? Every record and song I’ve made has captured a moment in my life, the good and the bad. The songs are little snapshots of those time periods.
“I am just a girl from Anaheim, California. I never in my wildest dreams could imagine that I’d be doing my own Vegas residency.”
What type of theatrics will you bring to the stage? It’s exciting for me to be working with dancers and musicians who are so incredibly gifted. We’re going to pull everyone’s talents out and put on the best show ever. What are you looking forward to most? I love to be face-to-face with people who have supported me all these years. It’s crazy to write music about your life and have this connection with people you don’t know. To have a mixed audience from around the world coming for a weekend to watch my show and make a memory in Vegas for themselves is amazing. It’s really going to be a different energy level and I’m looking forward to that. What is your favorite song to perform? The bigger the song is and the more people it reaches, the more exciting it is to play live. “Hollaback Girl” never fails me. People get so excited.

Sometimes, it’s simply referred to as the “THE HOUSE THAT CELINE BUILT.” And rightfully so. The Colosseum at Caesars Palace opened in 2003 with Celine Dion as its first resident performer. Fifteen years later, she’s still packing the house as fans from across the globe come to see her perform in the 4,298-seat theater that was originally constructed for her first show, A New Day….
You’ve been performing at Caesars Palace since 2003. What’s it like after all these years? I remember vividly arriving in this beautiful new theater in 2003. It was a rich and wonderful experience indeed. And definitely A New Day… for me! Tell us about being part of the Caesars family? Caesars is truly part of my professional family. And, as it goes with family relations, it’s dear to my heart. You recently made your 1,000th performance at The Colosseum. How does that feel? I never thought we would reach this milestone. I truly enjoy being onstage. For me, performing is about having a good time with my fans, the musicians and crew. Do you remember your first performance at Caesars Palace? Yes, I performed at Circus Maximus back in 1996. It turned out to be a good omen and the beginning of a wonderful experience. Do you have any superstitions preparing for a show? We had Rene’s hand [cast] in bronze many years ago. And today, it has become a tradition to touch it before going onstage. How many more years do you see yourself performing? I never think about that. I hope to sing as long as as I can breathe. I have been singing all my life, since childhood, and I don’t see myself retiring or not performing. It’s what I love to do.

Reba, Brooks & Dunn Country Superstars at The Colosseum

ust moments before Reba McEntire takes The Colosseum stage in Las Vegas with Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, she tells Brooks to “do it.” On cue, Brooks starts belting out Reba’s hit “Fancy” in a Cajun twang. This happens before every show at Caesars Palace. It’s tradition at this point. “That’s a demand that I’ve learned to live with,” Brooks says. “Sometimes you just gotta do what she says. She won’t go onstage until I do it.” “It’s hysterical,” Reba says with a laugh. The trio, longtime friends, first began their “REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together in Vegas” residency in summer 2015, which adds up to a lot of Cajun versions of “Fancy.” For the three of them, doing a show together came naturally, much like their relationship.

“It’s just like brothers and sisters,” Reba explains. “We spar about stuff, and we agree to disagree if we can’t come to an agreeable situation on a topic.” On this particular day, Reba’s lodging a complaint against the guys, ribbing them that she does five costume changes throughout the show, while they, well, do zero. “Ronnie and Kix don’t change anything. That really puts me out a little bit,” she says. “I think they should at least change a necklace or hat or vest or jacket. Kix does walk back and forth a little bit, so I gotta give him credit for that.” Dunn’s response, “Listen, I change my shirt every now and then.” Brooks, meanwhile, says, “Well, she’s not paying attention. I’m working really hard at doing subtle changes. If she were watching, she would know. I change a watch. Sometimes I’ll put a coat on. I might take a vest off. I’m a little disappointed. She really needs to watch. I’m concerned that she’s so wrapped up in her own stuff that she doesn’t know all the glamorous things that I’m doing over there.” Clearly, these three mesh incredibly well on, and off, the stage. As they enter the fourth year of their Caesars Palace residency, the only challenge they face is keeping the show fresh. “The primary thing for us to remember is that people are there to hear those hits. They want to hear ‘Neon Moon,’ and ‘My Maria,’” Dunn says. “That’s the good news of being around long enough. It’s certainly not a negative thing to have a lot of hit songs.” And that’s what the show is, a live greatest hits album from three of the biggest names in country music. “We toured for over twenty years to get to a scenario like this and never did we envision at any time having a residency in Vegas,” Dunn admits. “It’s turned out to be the coolest thing we’ve ever done.”

Over the past 25 years, Penn & Teller have performed thousands of shows in Las Vegas— a majority of those inside a theater named after them at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. And you can safely say that not a single show has been the same as the last. “The conventional wisdom in Las Vegas is that the audience changes, so you don’t have to,” says Penn Jillette. “But for Teller and me, that’s not good enough. We have achieved and exceeded our goals.”

Gordon Ramsay has an ear-to-ear Cheshire cat grin. He’s working the room, greeting guests with handshakes and hugs, telling stories and taking selfies. The diners here tonight at Caesars Palace are not all VIPs, but fans of his food and fame—just lucky enough to have booked a reservation on opening weekend in Las Vegas.
It was January 2018 when Gordon Ramsay’s HELL’S KITCHEN made its triumphant Caesars Palace debut in Las Vegas. Fireworks lit up the sky and Ramsay walked a star-studded red carpet with many of the former winners of his Hell’s Kitchen television series. With Ramsay in the room it was the night it got real for the chefs donning the show’s signature uniforms—those red or blue jackets with coordinating bandanas. They’re cooking in a working kitchen. But Ramsay tonight isn’t the hotheaded guy seen on television. This is the real man behind the multi-million dollar media and restaurant empire. Humble, kind and excited. Yet quick to remind everyone within earshot. “This is not competition. This is the real deal,” he said.

WELCOME TO HELL’S KITCHEN DUBAI And now fresh off the success of his HELL’S KITCHEN restaurant in Las Vegas (one that accepted 10,000 reservations prior to even opening), Ramsay is unveiling his next great thing—a HELL’S KITCHEN restaurant at Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai. The 260-seat restaurant will include indoor and outdoor seating, complete with a 31-table patio. Like its predecessor, HELL’S KITCHEN at Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai pays tribute to Ramsay’s FOX Network Hell’s Kitchen television show, which began airing its latest season in September. In terms of food, this is classic Ramsay. The menu consists of Hell’s Kitchen favorites such as pan-seared scallops, beef Wellington, a shellfish tower, and sticky toffee pudding. But here in Dubai, HELL’S KITCHEN will also serve breakfast, including Emirati specialties, as well as cold pressed juices.
BUILDING AN EMPIRE WITH CAESARS HELL’S KITCHEN was Ramsay’s fifth restaurant in Las Vegas. His first, Gordon Ramsay Steak opened 30
at Paris Las Vegas in 2012. Two others followed later that year, and then in the fall of 2016 he introduced Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips at The LINQ Promenade. Since then his partnership with Caesars Entertainment has grown to include restaurants in Baltimore, Maryland, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and now Dubai. “Steak was an important entry [into Las Vegas]. We brought a bit of cool Britannia to Vegas,” Ramsay recalls. “That was a great indicator for the demand. Then with each restaurant we raised the bar, learning from our mistakes.” Now Ramsay runs kitchens in Las Vegas that specialize in burgers, steaks, fish and chips, and British pub fare—all within steps of each other. He admits he sees Las Vegas as one of the world’s great food cities. “I travel a lot, and this is one of the most competitive food cities in the world,” he says. “All the big boys are here. It can compete with Paris, New York and London. I love that jeopardy. That challenge. This is the arena I strive to be in.” Nobody has ever said Ramsay wasn’t competitive.

RAMSAY’S TELEVISION FUTURE HELL’S KITCHEN is ideal for filming, and Ramsay says he has plans to shoot some of the show’s episodes in the shiny, new space, including possibly next season’s finale. “There is no greater city that lends itself to a live venue for the finale. Hell’s Kitchen is restaurant-theater. Perfect for Las Vegas. It’s just high-octane, high-energized service,” he says. The same is true for Dubai. In addition, Ramsay reveals of Las Vegas, “I’ll be holding several competitions here too. I’ll be inviting chefs to come and go head-to-head, sort of like Iron Chef.” Could that mean we see the heavyweight battle we’ve been waiting for? Is Ramsay vs. Flay on the horizon? When posed that question, Ramsay gives an animated answer. “I’m dying to get Bobby Flay in that kitchen. Giada [De Laurentiis] can do the judging. Blind taste or whatever,” he spouts. “I would love to put him on the blue team. I’ll go on the red team. Bring a couple sous chefs and we’ll have a cook-off. It would be a pleasure to see him in that kitchen in competition this year. Get your apron on Bobby—let’s go!”

JUDGE AND MENTOR Ramsay says, in the end, he just wants to share what he’s learned over the years with the generation to follow, whether they’re kids with big dreams or hardened chefs looking for their big break. When asked if it’s hard to switch hats and go from filming MasterChef Junior to Hell’s Kitchen, he points out the vast differences in the goals of the shows. The winners of Hell’s Kitchen are funneled into head-chef positions, he quickly reminds us. This essentially makes the show an audition. So naturally, he has to be strong on the contestants of Hell’s Kitchen. “These winners are dropped into one of the biggest and toughest arenas in the culinary scene. I gotta be tough,” he says. “It’s a competition. I’m about to hand a check to [the winner of Hell’s Kitchen] for $250,000, and put them in a restaurant in Las Vegas with an amazing profile, where they’re going to be dissected every time they turn the gas on. So yes, there is a different
jacket. But I do it because I want them to feel the heat and be able to succeed.” On MasterChef Junior, he’s a bit more forgiving— even though nearly every episode seems to end in tears. “I’m a Dad. I have four kids. Only thing I ask is for them to show me their passion. Find that passion and I’ll back it,” he says. “On MasterChef Junior, [the contestants] cook with no fear. I want that raw talent. I want to feed that hunger.” He pauses, rubs his chin and continues, “I’m like a fútbol coach to those kids,” Ramsay, a former soccer star with dreams of playing professionally, explains. “I tell them, ‘We’re going to go to hell and back. You’re going to love me. You’re going to hate me. But in the end, you’re going to leave this competition with so much more confidence than you ever had before.’”

Furla looks to the future with a foot grounded in a solid past of time-honored craftsmanship, artisanal expertise, a sense of beauty and innovative designs.
Over the past decade, Furla has been rapidly gaining a following with fashion aficionados. The company’s success is widely attributed to creative director Fabio Fusi, who joined the brand in 2010 and introduced what has become every fashionista’s favorite handbag, the Candy Bag. Furla continues to impress with its approachable take on luxurious leather goods. We sat down with Furla’s CEO Scott Link to find out what makes the company tick.
What has led to Furla’s success? The Candy Bag helped. It was one of the first collections with our current designer Fabio Fusi. Candy changed Furla, and then Metropolis really put us on the map.
What’s the buzz around the men’s line—Furla Zeus? We launched it in a very serious way about a year ago. We aren’t doing basic, boring workbags. These have personality and character.
How does Furla stay relevant in a social-media fast-fashion culture? Instead of just doing four collections a year, we’re trying to infuse newness every month. We launched the Furla Society, which will continue to evolve. We love the idea of the characters and bags intermingling.
Tell us about the Fall Collection? Fall is centered on strong women interpreted through sports. There is a nod to rock climbing, fencing, ice skating and boxing. Some hardware resembles rock-climbing hooks, and the beautiful silver mesh on some bags represents fencing. We are also incorporating some high-tech fabrics such as nylon, weatherproofing and quilted down to make the bags more durable and lightweight for an active lifestyle.
Explain the Furla Society? It’s about inclusive luxury—a campaign everyone can feel a part of. A playfulness centering around how the bags have a life of their own. We love it, because we believe that a bag is an expression of who you are and how you want to be seen in the world.
