Publisher's Note Dear OMG! Magazine Readers and Advertiser: I have some very exciting news for you from your friends at OMG! Magazine. But first, I wish to thank you for all of your support and loyalty through the last few years as we have grown into Florida’s favorite & most read magazine. But, we have not stopped there. We are well on our way to becoming the fastest growing LGBT publication and multimedia company in the country thanks to our readers and advertisers! Why you ask?

place an advertisement in a selection of print magazines, and hope you have captured your target audience. That is the past, and that’s why we recognized early on that all advertising strategies require a multi-level, “multi-media” approach these days in order to be successful. Well, we have solved the problem and created a solution.

"Our flagship website has nearly everything your target consumer could dream of..."

Well it’s official, OMG! Magazine has moved ahead and grown up. We are now, with this Fall Issue, a full scale, full size, monthly magazine, complete with our honored introduction to the Travel and Leisure section produced exclusively by our friends and partners from ALand CHUCK. Travel, (the newest and largest LGBT travel conglomerate in the country) followed by their monthly featured travel & leisure stories, tips, destinations and special promotions that will be the envy of the travel industry much less the LGBT community to which it favors; plus, an edgy Fashion & Art section, with contributing fashion editorial by some of the up & coming trendsetters in the fashion industry; not to mention our famed and hard hitting Political Analysis & News section by our new seasoned investigative reporters and writers; and rounded out by our new and extensive Club, Entertainment and Restaurant section; and of course, all of the other favorite contributions by our OMG! Magazine family, including health, finance, local goings on, gossip, and schedule of events and maps to your business. Wow!

To our advertisers we say, don’t be passive and wait for business to come to you. Grab it. OMG! Magazine is committed to partnering with your business. We don’t want to just place your advertisement anywhere in the pages of a myriad of print advertisement like others do - and leave the rest to you. We really want to work together with you on your marketing plan and advertising strategy. We want to be a part of your success, and we can help. It’s what we love to do, and we are keenly aware of the importance your success means to you, as well as, the significance to the entire LGBT community. In a completely novel way, we have parlayed a line of advertising products that will fit your needs and goals. It’s just not enough to OMG! 12

That’s why we have spent the last year planning the launch of our new multi-media website debuting in conjunction with this issue. Your ads will now not only be in a glossy full size print format, but will also be included with our many other advertising media, including strategically placed ads within our new multimedia websites: www.omgmag.com (the flagship portal), includes social.omgmag.com, chat online in 3D, share your pictures and videos or find your perfect friend or spouse within the dating service, travel.omgmag. com, (book a flight, hotel or rental car anywhere in the world! (Soon to be powered by www.ALandCHUCK.travel) and www. omgTVlive.com with live and syndicated programming, launching in the fall of 2011. Our flagship website includes nearly everything your target consumer could dream of, including a more highly sophisticated face-book style “social media,” “live chat,” “dating” programs, graphical night-life & events guides/calendars, music downloads, streaming videos from events and advertisers’ venues, free classifieds & business listing guides, all of this collectively aimed to engage, cater to, and stimulate the LGBT community in a more intimate and self identifying way. In the end, it is all about satisfying the OMG! Magazine audience, but in satisfying them, it gives us the opportunity to drive this most affluent and loyal demographic consumer directly to your business. So we hope you will see the future and grow with us as we take you and the LGBT community to the next level of entertainment, news and leisure. Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free contact me at your convenience to discuss your partnership with OMG! Magazine. We wish you a prosperous 2011 year and hope to hear from you soon.

I am a masculine-identified lesbian woman who was born & raised on the West coast and has traveled extensively, in and out of the country, since childhood. I have been in the entertainment business a majority of my life, on screen and off. Now, I'm hosting my own radio show via the internet. I got my name, Da Realest 1, simply from the fact that every conversation I've had, with numerous people, I've constantly been told how real I am, how I don't "sugar-coat" anything and I tackle things head-on. So, I decided to take that as, not only a compliment, but also as who I am as a person and incorporate it into my name. I bet you're wondering why on Earth I look so "manly"... LOL! Well, it's quite simple, I am so comfortable within my own skin and with who I am, that I refuse to confine myself to the stereotypes of how society thinks I should look. I am free to be me in my entirety and I am just that, looks and all! I am DA REAL DEAL! Da Real Deal is not just a show. It's also the beginning of a much needed positive movement, breaking down the walls built by stereotypes. On my show, I cater to OMG! 16

dedication and loyalty to the arts. Steven was earlier known in his teen-years for performing magic and received numerous publicity releases in both the newspaper and television. More recently, he has turned to acting and directing. His success is a reflection of all the hard work he is gradually becoming famous for. OMG! 26

I

don't really have a specific occupation. Right now, I'm on a journey. Exploring all the things I love. The work I do involves utilizing my interests to create something new and exciting! I love directing, producing, acting, singing, graphic design, interior design, psychology, etc... anything that allows me to be creative. Maybe someday I'll know "what I want to do", but for now, it's all about living for the moment! For the last 4 years, I've been traveling all over the US. I've seen a lot and learned even more. I live by the quote of innovation: "The best way to predict the future is to create it." There is so much truth in the idea that we hold our own destiny. For me, I don't desire a specific future, but I am working to achieve a sense of accomplishment in knowing that I tried all the things I love to do! As I move forward in my life, I am proud I have allowed myself to live in the moment and live out my dreams. I hold no regret

in any of the decisions I have previously made. Life is a series of moments, and in those moments, whether right or wrong, all we can do is try. "Live not with regret for the decisions you have made, but live for making decisions with no regrets."

Gay Teen Suicide : I can actually relate to the suicide issues in the media now, as I have previously been hospitalized on life support for it. I would love to reach out to each and every one of you and say (no don’t do it ) it get’s better. I know, what coming out was like, and it can be a battle keep your head up.

“Bow Down” : There’s a huge debate about whether my song “Bow Down” is blasphemous or just declaring myself as a superstar so deal with it .

i am Steven Binko The Escape : My reality series that received international recognition. In the final 3 or 4 episodes, we actually discontinued the series. It was a $40,000 investment. A lot of people have been asking me to address why the final episodes were never broadcast in my new column next month, I will talk about this so stay tuned.

Music : There’s a trend in a few questions: How I got started, what the albums about, who does the music, where the tours are taking me, who I would do a dream duet with, what success I expect from it, if I plan to do it for a while.

Pornography : A lot of people are saying that I’m in the adult industry and that what I’m doing is overtly sexual and trying too hard to sell sex. Does Britney or Lady Ga Ga or Christina dress sexy and sell sex? …hell yes!!!

Fan Question:

"Live not with regret for the decisions you have made, but live for making decisions with no regrets."

Who does your managing, music, costumes, choreography? Everything is managed on my own. I have a very specific idea of how I envision things… and I feel like when you work with a lot of people, you’re ideas can be altered and end up being the product of what your team manufactures you into. I want to keep my originality and feel like I have a real role in everything I do and what my fans hear, see and experience. I’m open to working with people, but right now I am loving being so intensely involved because in the end I’ll be able to say “I did that for my fans and my LGBT community. Much love, Steven Binko

By: Thomas Barker As someone who loves to travel – and has to do it on a budget – I go through great lengths to find the best deals in some of the world’s top gay destinations. As a result, the amount of time and energy involved in planning a trip can sometimes be overwhelming. I could always go on an Atlantis cruise or take an RSVP tour, but I would also be spending almost double the price for a trip to the same destination. This past weekend, my fellow publisher and I were invited by the newest and largest gay travel agency in the United States, ALandCHUCK.travel, to join its founders, Al Ferguson and Chuck Scott, aboard the MSC Poesia, alongside the owners and publishers of what Al and Chuck consider to be the top five gay publications in Florida. Once we checked in and made our way to the ship, our concierge for the weekend, Kendall Wilson, welcomed us by offering a cocktail in one of the ship’s many fabulous bars. This one in particular was the Zebra Lounge, which is appropriately titled, as the entire lounge is covered in zebra print fabrics. While Rafa and I sipped on a Grey Goose dirty martini – which was only $7 by the way – Kendall filled us in on our weekend adventure. Each night would consist of a delicious dinner in one of the MSC Poesia’s signature restaurants followed by a night of cocktails and dancing at one of the ship’s discos. The best part

OMG! 32

was that each of the venues would be exclusively reserved for us. The rest of the weekend went exactly as planned. Rafa and I, along with our media colleagues who were also guests of Al and Chuck, enjoyed piña coladas poolside and indulged in fantastic fare courtesy of the ship’s chef de cuisine. All in all, we had an incredible weekend making new friends, relaxing, and even forging new media business collaborations. One thing I was absolutely fascinated by on this trip was how affordable it was and that – although it was a mainstream cruise – the programming made it feel as if we were on an exclusively gay cruise. When I mentioned this to Al, he explained that the price of a regular cabin for this cruise in particular is less than half the price of any of the gay chartered cruises with the same itinerary and caliber of cruise ship. It turns out that ALandCHUCK.travel is actually part of Legendary Journeys, which is one of the largest travel companies in the United States. In fact, it books close to 45,000 passengers a year on various cruises, tours, and trips, putting the company in the top 1 percent of producers for the major cruise lines. This, paired with the fact that they have a very loyal following, makes it easier for them to negotiate better rates on higher quality products, allowing them to offer the same products at a

much lower rate than other gay travel agencies! After learning a bit about Al and Chuck, I decided to sit down with Al to learn more about their plans for their brand spanking new gay travel agency. By the end of the conversation, I was more than excited about the launch of ALandCHUCK. travel, as Al and Chuck have set out to change the landscape of gay travel in so many ways.

Check out what they had to say:

..................................

VIEW FROM THE DECK OF THE MSC POESIA PHOTOS BY: RAFA CARVAJAL

Where are you guys from and how did you meet?

.................................. .................................. In terms of the products Chuck and I met 23 years ago. I was in the travel business for a large traditional travel agency that offered straight travel products. After we met, we got together and have been together ever since. We started Legendary Journeys, which also platforms AlandChuck.travel, in 1995. We’ve been together in the travel business ever since.

.................................. What made you guys decide to create a travel agency that focuses specifically on the gay community?

This story was originally published as the cover story of Wire Magazine issue 46, 2010. The author is Thomas Barker. Visit www.wireweekly.com for additional information about Wire Magazine.

.................................. Well first and foremost, we are gay, and we wanted to do something that was fun. But we didn’t really see strength in the gay market, so we came to it slowly. Through Legendary Journeys we did a number of gay trips, but they were done very quietly and were really just for our friends. We would send out invitations saying Al and Chuck were going to do this cruise or this trip, and many of our friends would come with us and participate. They would tell their friends and our groups continued to grow as a result. In the last couple of years, we have really taken the time to look at the gay market closely to analyze what was going on in gay travel - not only in Florida, but also around the country. In the last year, we decided that we would focus on creating the new gay brand, which is how ALandCHUCK.travel came about.

and services you offer, what differentiates ALandCHUCK.travel from other travel agencies?

.................................. Well first, it is our size. We have 11 offices, and we are in the top one percent of travel companies in the world. We are the current Carnival Cruise Line Agency of the Year. We are in the top one percent of travel companies for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL, and many of the traditional travel products, such as hotels, tours, etc. Our size is dramatically larger than the gay market competitors that currently exist, and, because of our size, our contacts allow us to leverage our resources into the gay market in a way that the traditional gay market hasn’t had access to. For an example, we own motor coaches and transportation vehicles, which we can use in a variety of ways, including transporting people to the piers, circuit events, parties, and even things as simple as a night out on the town. We have a lot of resources that don’t exist for virtually any of the competitors. Also, because of our size, we are able to negotiate better deals for our gay travelers. In the cruise market in particular, people are used to gay only charters, and it is a very good product but exceedingly expensive, which is due to the fact that it is exceedingly

a huge risk. We have chartered ships and it’s a situation where companies have to plan on the utilization of the ship in order to properly organize a charter. As a result, if you are sailing on a gay charter one week, it is probably 30, 40, and even 50 percent higher in price than the exact same cruise the following week. For us, we do a lot of gay pride oriented cruises, where we do a gay cruise within a cruise. We provide services such as a daily gay bar at sea, gay dining exclusively for our guests, gay shore excursions at the various ports and many, many other things. So it feels like a gay cruise except it doesn’t have the additional cost involved, which is regularly passed down to the guests. Even with that said, ALandCHUCK.travel will sell all of the mainline gay charters and gay products as well, but there are many, many other choices out there that we will offer that will have a tremendous value for the dollar.

..................................

I also understand that ALandCHUCK.travel will be working on connecting a number of cities across the state. Tell me about that.

.................................. I was born in Sarasota, so I’ve been in the Florida market place my entire life. I look at Florida as more than just South Beach or Wilton Manors or GaYbor or Central Florida. I really look

OMG! 33

PHOTOS BY: RAFA CARVAJAL

at it as one large gay market, and the triangle between Tampa Bay, Orlando, and South Florida has a significant presence. In fact, it is probably one of the largest gay market places in the United States. My idea is that one of the first things we need to do is reach out to publications like Wire Magazine and focus our products on the fact that some of the best places to travel are sometimes located right in your own backyard. This way, Central Florida, GaYbor, and other cities within that triangle really get an opportunity to experience South Florida as a fun gay destination and South Florida will receive an opportunity to do the same. Too often the market is very fragmented. We look at going to Province Town or Palm Springs, but we don’t look at something in our own backyard that might be only three or four hours away. We will be keenly involved in providing the products, marketing, and packaging to make that happen.

.................................. ..................................

Can you give me some details on a few of your upcoming trips?

We have a variety of cruises in 2011, We are going to do a Winter White Party Cruise, following the White Party in 2011. We will provide all kinds of different tours as well. We have a trip going to Amsterdam Pride. We have a trip going to Italy. We have a variety of trips really going all over the world. Our programs at Legendary Journeys carry about 45,000 passengers a year OMG! 34

to literally every corner of the planet. We will take those same resources and contacts and create gay products for a number of destinations. In terms of short products, we are going to definitely bring Tampa Bay down to South Beach for Miami Beach Gay Pride this spring. Miami Beach is not on the radar for Tampa Bay and Central Florida at all, and Miami Beach is one of the key events in 2011 that we are going to do. We are also going to do similar shorter trips that may include our own transportation vehicles to transport guests to those destinations.

..................................

You, Chuck, and ALandCHUCK. travel are also very involved in the community. What is your philosophy behind this?

..................................

I think first and foremost, broad support is important. You just participated in our media cruise, and our number one message on the cruise – even beyond our desire to increase the business of our brand is that the gay community in Florida really focuses on uniting. We have a community that has tremendous financial resources, but we are all very, very fractured. The community in Dade County has very different interests and may have conflicts at times with Fort Lauderdale and Broward. That is certainly true as well for Pinellas County and Central Florida. I look at giving back to the gay

As the statewide sponsor of Equality Florida, we’re the first statewide sponsor that has reached out to Equality Florida. We’ve contributed $50,000 to the organization, and we are going to host a cruise for Equality Florida that will leave out of Tampa on January 22, 2012 to the Western Caribbean with Norwegian Cruise Lines.

.................................. How can people get more

information about the products and services offered by ALandCHUCK. travel?

..................................

Well they can certainly go to our website, ALandCHUCK.travel. Right now we have a splash page. We are in the final stages of putting together a state-of-the-art website, which we’ve invested a six figure sum into. I think it will be one of the most sophisticated travel sites in the world in 2011. Someone can become infinitely involved in participating in our trips and communicating with their friends, regardless of their social media, by going to our website and registering to receive the advance announcement of what we are going to be doing. In the last month alone, we’ve had over 1,000 fans join our Facebook page. By next year, we hope to have 100,000 people on our page.

community in a broader context. We can all help each other if we work together and we set common goals and address common needs. All of our businesses can improve when we work together in a collaborative way. In terms of giving back to the gay community, that is really a key focus for ALandCHUCK.travel, which is why we have become the statewide sponsor for Florida’s largest GLBT rights organization, Equality Florida.

Fresh Produce While OMG Magazine was taking a re-group powder to become more large and in charge the gang at MyFlexRadio.com has been doing the same. We’ve added and subtracted, tweaked and twisted and pumped up the station to make “your music” the best. Your feedback is of the utmost importance to us because that’s how the station is built. We’re super excited on the new size, content and future of the brand spanking new OMG. While we were on hiatus we snagged up a fresh collection of club tracks for you loyal music monsters. Here’s the dish on the dance floor goods you’ve been probably Shazam’ing for the last few weeks.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// C’mon Get Funky by Rosabel ft Tamara Wallace If the dance floor you’re on this weekend suddenly spontaneously combusts, it will probably be due to this scorcher. With a bass line that screams “Use It Up, Wear It Out” by Pat & Mick from the ‘90’s, we have a wicked mover in this one. Tamara lays out all the dance floor elements necessary for movement because after all “it’s all about the music!" The proverbial circuit cheerleader, she’ll guide you through a serious aerobic workout if ya let her. A fave of bc, our program director, the track is a Flex sensation. Listen up boys this one is the real deal!

Mr. Romeo by Emii This release from new pop starlet Emii is deceiving on first listen. It starts up with an initial cheesy pop “Row…Row…Romeo” hook but then her ballsy attitude vocal kicks in and it’s all over. Ralphi Rosario twists the lyrics around his patented production for another winner. French kissing, ass slapping, biting and other romantic courting rituals abound as this girl knows how she likes and wants it. Definitely will be a sing along anthem for the guys on the hunt. At press-time Emii is currently filming the pop video for the song with Snoop Dog. Watch out for this one.

Barbra Streisand by Duck Sauce Veteran dance music producers A-Trak and Armand Van Helden team up for a hookladen romp into quirky disco-land with this little novelty gem. Using samples from an early Giorgio Moroder synth track coupled with a strategically placed male chant of “Barbra Streisand”!, this one is infectious. The viral video is a mash of New York City travelogue scenes, dj cameos and a Babs impersonator that will have the real Mrs. Brolin reeling! Word on the street is that she doesn’t know about the song yet…but I guarantee she will soon. Already huge in the underground, listen for it on a dance floor near you…it’s about to take over the world. Makes me wanna go bust out my copy of “The Way We Were”, “Funny Girl” and “Yentil” (ok, so she cross-dresses and kisses a woman)…uh…”Papa Can Ya Hear Me”…?

OMG! 36

| SOUNDS |

Fresh Produce Feel Good by Edson Pride ft Jeanie Tracy “Get up on your feet…it’s a fabulous day. Feel good children…hear what I say!” Momma Cha Cha Heels is back with a celebration anthem to bring some joy back to our dance floors. And there’s no one with a better dance pedigree to do it. She’s been recording since 1970, worked with Sylvester, Rosabel, Altar and now hot Brazilian remixer Edson Pride. Independently produced and released this gem can be found by clicking the Masterbeat Banner at www.MyFlexRadio.com with a batch of new mixes from Rafael Lelis and Barry Harris. Jeanie’s a huge friend of the station and listens to us regularly. In person, she’s the sweetest down-to-earth diva I’ve ever met and I’m looking forward to more of her wonderful stories and inspiration over soul food the next time she’s in town.

Destination by Tony Moran ft Ultra Nate

One Hot Pleasure by Erika Jayne Following her Billboard #1 “Pretty Mess” we’re served this cutie from Ms. Jayne. She opts for a Ke$ha style vocal but it’s subdued enough by Ralphi Rosario’s mix to not be annoying. “Bay…bay…bay…bay…BANG” resonates through the mix amid images of dirty pictures and a little bit of an auto-tuned vocal too. Sounds like Taio Cruz got to her. That being said, it will probably be mainstream successful. A superb live performer and a long-time supporter of the GLBT scene, it would be great if the masses became enlightened to her talent.

Feel The Music by Kathy Brown Deep Influence provides the mix on this terrific new anthem from the voice that belted out the Praxis classic “Turn Me Out” a few hundred years back (actually like ’94). It chugs along like a great house song should. Lots of room to sweat with this one boys…it’s smooth and uplifting simultaneously. The production dips and swells in all the right places for dance floor perfection. Kathy channels her best Gospel chops and sweetly preaches the lyrics like “the music” is a religion. I couldn’t agree more!

DJ Joanie is the Music Director of MyFlexRadio.com, a Billboard Club Play Reporter, and a resident DJ of Central Florida. Bc is the Program Director of MyFlexRadio.com, the “voice” of all things Flex, and the father to “Taz” our Chocolate Lab station dog. He makes drinks on air and stresses creatively for a living.

Every time I play this one I get visions of Starz’s great new series “Spartacus – Blood And Sand”. To say the least it an epic release with crowd shout effects matched with pretty string drops and a passionate beautiful vocal. It’s almost as if circuit and trance music played “Clash Of The Titans” on the dance floor/gladiator stadium. Tony and Ultra should be no strangers to you. Tony is a former freestyle artist-turned-dj and remixer and Ultra is the power pipes behind “Free”, “If You Could Read My Mind”, “Automatic” and “Give It All You Got”. Thumbs up from the crowd on this one…it deserves a long life.

his is one of my favorite times of the year because it's a rare opportunity to use all the wonderful shiny silverware and sparkling crystal covered dishes to set my beautiful table and to make my already delicious food appear even more appetizing. Appoint with some light scented candles and fresh cut flowers, keep it simple, and you will have a table setting that would make Martha Stewart say "you go girl!" Well not exactly that, but you get what I mean. I always prefer serving my holiday feast "buffet style" because people will choose only what they feel comfortable eating, and it avoids making guests feel uncomfortable, not to mention, allows me a chance to socialize more with my guests instead of being trapped in the kitchen for the whole evening. I also try to serve only bite size or finger foods for larger gatherings because it allows me to prepare many different and lovely presentations. I also love using decorative toothpicks which work perfectly for a big party and avoids the need for rented utensils. This allows for people who you know will want to nibble while they drink, so small hors d'oeuvres beautifully presented on proper platters and plates, again for a big party, is the best way to go to avoid the holiday stress, and it's just OMG! 40

what they desire. Nobody wants to be managing a large food dish around a big party when they are trying to look beautiful and fabulous. I usually have most of the food at one main location, but I do place small snacks throughout the house to make it easier for all my guests to have access to something to nibble on while they mingle and tingle. When you have well fed guests you have happy guests. But, I always say, it's better to run out of food than it is to run out of liquor. So, if you are going to low ball your estimated attendance when shopping for your big holiday party, do it with the food! A fully stocked bar insures that everyone, gay or straight, will be happy to see their favorite adult beverage being served. A good stiff one helps to ease your guests and put them in a festive mood. You know what I'm saying! But, always make sure to have non alcoholic drinks for your dear recovering friends. We always want to support them especially during the holidays. With these few simple holiday tips, I promise you'll get raving reviews while allowing you to relax. If it's not fun, why do it? Enjoy!

TAKE TIME OFF | HEALTH |

Making the Most of YOUR TIME this Holiday Season! by Wm. Cor y Jeffries, LMT, NMT

W

e all seem to be busier than ever, and the holidays bearing down on us, it seems it will only get worse! High standards, coupled with an uncompromising work place, demanding bosses, layoffs, workload restructuring, new technology, day-to-day operations, future planning, business travel, innovation, competition, family obligations, holiday shopping, parties, all that cooking, and the details of daily life all combine to create "the kind of pressure that "just makes it hard to breathe.” With the holidays upon us, we all have the potential to suffer from “scarcity of time,” and we must learn to be more efficient in our use of time.

Is there a solution?

May I suggest that in order to avoid burnout, stop trying to go faster and instead maximize the time you have so you’re more productive. Yes, believe it or not, this is possible, and the benefit of this is that as you gain productivity, you actually work less. If you’re ready to trade your current frantic pace of work for one that’s more relaxed yet efficient, the following strategies will help you achieve more in less time.

Make new time rules

Financial advisors often advise people to set “money rules,” such as “save 10 percent of every paycheck.” Money rules help you be decisive and stay true to your financial goals. As a Massage Therapist, I suggest you can apply those same concepts to your time management issues by setting new time rules. Here are some recommended “efficiency” rules, that when applied properly can lead to a higher quality of life:

OMG! 42

............................... Never schedule a meeting before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

a rule, you’ll want to communicate it so you can accommodate the people in your life. They can only respect your boundaries if they’re clear. Said another way, they can only follow the rules if you set them.

Turn off computer after 7 p.m.

Power Down

Never open e-mail before planning the day.

Turn your PDA/IPod/IPhone off during family time. Always eat dinner at home, even if it means working from home. Spend no more than one work function per week away from home. Focus on personal goals one hour per work day. Be home in early to spend quality time with your loved ones every night, or at least call them to say good night.

............................... Would any of these rules work for you?

Power down means turn off the technology. Yes, the wonders of technology are just short of miraculous, and today’s technology can help you maximize your time. We can use it to transform not just the way our world works, but also the way we work. It can buy us time, save us time, leverage time and organize our time. However, if you’re not careful, this “technology” can control you! Think about it. Just because you can be available 24/7 doesn’t mean you should be. Just because you can instant message at the same time you’re writing a report doesn’t mean you should. Just because you can perch your laptop on the passenger seat of your car to tap out ideas during traffic doesn’t mean you should.

To set time rules, follow this simple formula: The trouble is not with the technology itself; it’s the abuse of the technology that’s the issue. To combat the Notice what’s not working the downsides of technology, you might way you spend your time. want to try this common sense advice: “Give the brain time without stress, Write down the way you wish you relaxing with family, exercising, eating could spend your time. well and sometimes, just sometimes, ignoring those e-mails.” In other Make a time rule that words, be the one to take control of accomplishes your goals your technology, so you can get the above. Such as, I will leave work important things done and not get promptly at 5 p.m. and stick to it! distracted all day long.

...............................

...............................

Time rules, even small ones, have the advantage of being concrete and explicit, making it easier to hold yourself accountable. Once you set

I understand that everyone expects you to be available 24/7, but taking the control to “power down,” is not about ignoring people or shirking responsibility. It’s about helping you

| HEALTH | TAKE TIME OFF focus, so you can be more productive during your working hours. So ask yourself, “do people really expect an immediate response or 24/7 availability? Or is that a standard I set for myself?” In reality, most people don’t expect you to be there 24/7. Find out what the expectations are of people in your life and then create appropriate guidelines. When you occasionally power down, when you turn off the technology and do what brings you progress and fulfillment, you’ll be much more effective in all your efforts.

Take a virtual vacation

You’ll work much more productively after you’ve taken a break. Just as your muscles need to recover from hard workouts, your brain needs time to recover from hard work. And while it would be wonderful to take a two-week trip to Key West every few months, few people can realistically do that. However, you can take a short virtual vacation as often as you like. A virtual vacation is simply a form of meditation with a twist. As you do in

meditation, close your eyes, breathe deeply and release all thoughts. Then to go on vacation, fill your mind with restful images, thoughts or even music. If you’re worried about falling asleep, set an alarm and tell yourself that if you do fall asleep, you’ll awake feeling refreshed and energized. You can combine the techniques of meditation and imagination with exercise to really come away revived and restored. Yoga, walking, running, biking and swimming have a rhythmic solitude that are especially well-suited to resting the mind, but you can also get away from stress and frustration with any kind of sport. Of course, it doesn’t have to be done while exercising... a bath, a hot shower, an hour in the tub, some quiet time on the couch can all bring the rest you need if you’re able to detach from the pressure and stress. Whatever you choose, be sure it engages your mind, either by helping you escape into a meditative state or getting you so involved in something else that you forget about work for awhile.

How exactly do virtual vacations increase productivity? They give your mind the space and rest it needs to function at its best. As a result, you gain a clearer mind with clearer thoughts, which leads to more productive work. You get better ideas, solutions to problems and those “eureka” moments that enable you to blast through a project or shave time off a task.

Reclaim your time

Ultimately, gaining productivity by maximizing your time is not about what you should do; it’s about what you choose to do. Do you want to work more productively and achieve your goals? Do you want to have more time to yourself and find ways to be rested and renewed? Then these strategies can help. Take control of your time and watch your productivity soar. And remember, the goal is not just to make the best use of your time; it’s to use time to get the most out of your work and your life. Until next month, may your holidays be merry, happy and bright! See you in 2011!

h 2010, what a rollercoaster year you were! Between the ups of Modern Family winning an Emmy and the overturn of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and the downs of Rentboy becoming a household name (thanks George Rekers!) and the premiere of Logo’s shamefully delicious The A-List: New York, our stomachs are in knots. We polled some of our favorite bold-faced names on how they will remember the first year of the new decade.

STYLE REPORT SPRING Who is Bocci?

I first found my love for fashion at the age of twelve, after being approached to do a number of catalog modeling jobs. Soon after, I realized though modeling was exciting for a pre-teen, it surely was not my lifelong passion. I am reminded that when I was young, I was always made little sketches here and there with special attention to all of the fine details at such a young age. My Nana (a former fashion model) married my grandfather who was an owner of department stores in Puerto Rico. She helped

introduce me to the lifestyle of fashion at an early age. “Through having class, one will find a perfection of success,” she’d always ingrain into my head. Both now have passed on, but I know they are in my corner guiding me through the hurdles of such a demanding, cut throat industry. In one’s lifetime so many hellacious catastrophes can and will occur, of which we will have absolutely no control of the dealings final outcome. For myself, I chose fashion as my life-long lover because I love so much being able to create beauty with my hands, and put a smile on another’s face by making their special day, really special. When all else is haywire, I have control. Fashion is the one thing for myself where no matter what is going wrong at that current moment, I am always able to dress a part, leaving me feeling like Clark Kent and indestructible.

Spring color trends Continues on page 62

Though the economy may not have fully recharged, it is very noticeable the fun is back in fashion. But, in a more modernistic urban feeling. That truly gives designers the ability to once again enjoy our professions, compared to the previous seasons of bland in tan.

It is my pleasure to help our readers get an in depth and detailed view of what is to be expected upon spring 2011 for Gentlemen of edge, taste and style.

Garrett R. Bocci // Prettyinpink@gmail.com

Hello my name is Garrett Bocci. Do not forget the name because you will see it again, surely soon. I am a fresh and fun twenty-four year old fashion Design student. I am currently in my last year to earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Fashion Design.

STYLE REPORT SPRING

The Scientific Men’s “New Look” Men’s spring 2011 is all about the urban modernistic look with a youthful but sexy, delightful twist. Though Prada indeed leads the way in this futuristic roller coaster, one shall not forget Sir Alexander McQueen (recently deceased). McQueen passes his legacy of talent and style, setting a new bar for all to keep up with much like Christian Dior’s 1951 “New Look,” fashion movement. The spirit of Yves Saint Laurent’s (YSL) also reflects much of spring 2011 collections giving equal balance and harmony in function, sprit, and frivolity.

Fibers >> The trend in fibers will include: >> Transparent Nylon >> Fine gauge knits, >> Metallic Chintz cotton >> Lightweight rubbers >> Neoprene (synthetic Latex)

Men this season will find unlike previous springs’ of loud eye popping pastels is not the “in” for 2011. That’s right I said it “Leave those Easter like polo’s in a box, in a closet where they belong.” This spring is all about the charcoal black, arctic white, boyish Wedgewood blue tones, powder shades of grey, with an electrifying spark of red for an unanticipated pop guarantee able to be noticed. Understand what I write,” this season is more about the cool tones, with a hint of power contrast please, not vice versa.”

STYLE REPORT SPRING Key Embellishments and Closures

New Years New Years as you know is a time when we are all supposed to be at our utmost top notch to bring in the New Year in style. I am very excited this year! For those who love the glam of grown up dinner parties, champagne flowing bottles, and smooth martinis being spilt in worry free laughter, this new years is for you! New Years main two focuses this year will include the famous color of Ink, and sheer knit garments. This year’s shade of Ink has adopted a slightly more eggplant tone. It is seen in many shiny shark skin suits’ with sleeves cropped at the shoulders, or pushed up to ones elbow. The shade is very luminous and rich in flavor. I am thankful for what is to come this sleek midnight holiday.

With such a futuristic James Bond like look approaching one can only expect to see an exuberant amount of; drawstrings, reflective tape, quilted panels, plenty of snaps, lots of hoods, and many exposed zippers, to produce glimmers of light caught in reflections. The feel of this cornucopia of notions is much like the feeling of what one may where if traveling to the planet Mars. Who would have ever thought the pocket protector could be so fashion in?

Outerwear Silhouettes >> Sleeveless Jackets >> Basic Baseball Jackets >> Parkas >> Double Breasted >> Blazers >> Tuxedo Jackets >> Roll Cuff Blazers >> Safari Jackets >> Trench Coats

A Sheer knit under a polished sleek jacket revealing touch here and there of flesh will force the demand of others eyes to notice how desirable you are for this season’s special occasion. In my final words of New Years trends; in’s, and out’s. Trend forecasting sites predict that a more relaxed fit pant will consume our society. Though, the trend may make its way around outlet bens, don’t expect it to last too long. This 2010 New Year’s black and blue special agent screams sophistication, class, taste, and etiquette.

Oceanfront Nights Art Basel, Miami

T

his year, Art Basel Miami Beach hosted a nightly program at the Oceanfront, organized by Creative Time, sited in an environment designed by Phu Hoang Office and Rachely Rotem Studio. The pavilion used two types of rope – reflective and phosphorescent – to create a diverse and interactive environment of open-air structures that sway and glow in the night. The 2010 Oceanfront Nights program featured four cities at the forefront of today’s artistic experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration: Detroit, Mexico City, Berlin, and Glasgow. From December 1 to December 4, each night put a spotlight on one city with film, music, video, performance and more. Art Basel Miami Beach and Creative Time invited four organizations to partner on creating the program - the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit, Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, 032c in Berlin, and Tramway in Glasgow.
