WINTER PARTY FESTIVAL 2011: 6 HIGH-ENERGY DAYS FOR A GOOD CAUSE MARCH 2 -7 2011

OMG! 12

| volume 3 | issue 3 | february 2011

"Miami Beach is, arguably, the world's favorite playground, and with our stellar line-up of events, DJs & entertainers, this year's Winter Party Festival will most definitely deliver!"

From the world renowned Beach Party to an Art Deco Walking Tour, the 2011 Winter Party Festival promises an array of events and activities as diverse as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community itself. One of the world’s largest and most anticipated events of the year, Winter Party Festival is expected to draw 10,000 revelers from around the world for more than 20 pulse-raising events, including several dance events with world-class DJs and entertainment. Beyond the parties, Winter Party Festival features art and culture, shopping, cocktail receptions, tours and events exclusively for women, all dedicated to fundraising for local and national LGBT equality efforts. Produced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Winter Party Festival raises funds to build power, take action and create change for the LGBT community. Two-thirds of the net proceeds generated from Winter Party Festival go to work locally through grants administered by the Miami Foundation (formerly the Dade Community Foundation), while the remaining one third goes to support The Task Force’s efforts nationally. Since its inception in 1994, Winter Party Festival, along with The Task Force’s annual Recognition Dinner, has raised more than $2.2 million for LGBT organizations in South Florida. “Miami Beach is, arguably, the world’s favorite playground,” said Chad Richter, chair of this year’s Winter Party Festival. “With our stellar line-up of events, DJs and entertainers, this year’s Winter Party Festival will most definitely deliver and exceed the expectations of our guests. But it’s also important not to lose sight of the reason behind why we’re all here to have a great time. The proceeds from Winter Party Festival help continue. The Task Force’s local and national fight for LGBT rights and equality. Ultimately, that’s what it’s all about.” In addition to the can’t miss Beach Party on the sand, along the famed Ocean Drive, highlights of this year’s Winter Party Festival include the “Under One Sun Pool Party” on the Doubletree Surfcomber’s tropical pool deck as well as the debut of “Winter Party Matinee,” a partnership with one of Europe’s biggest dance parties. Additional activities include a shopping adventure on the Lincoln Road pedestrian mall, a concert and reception featuring young musical artists from the Florida Grand Opera and four exciting events exclusively for Winter Party Festival’s women guests. “Apologies to Mark Twain,” Richter said, “we want everyone to know that they’ll have the hottest winter of their life at Winter Party Festival.” Tickets to Winter Party Festival 2011 are available individually or as part of discounted, multievent passes. For more information, to purchase tickets and passes, or to check out the complete schedule of events, visit winterparty.com. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is the first national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights organization and remains the community’s uncompromising progressive voice. It fights for equality and justice by building grassroots power through training, advocacy, organizing and forward-thinking research and expertise. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Foundation is a 501(c) (3) corporation. Learn more at www. TheTaskForce.org.

DJ Abel

Mercury Rising DJ Abel is undoubtedly at the top of his game and in an industry overrun by fledgling DJ's aspiring to follow in his footsteps, he ranks even beyond the title of "super DJ". He is among the select group of "uber DJ's". His production and remixing team, Rosabel, continues to churn out Billboard dance hits including "C'mon Get Funky", Rihanna's "Only Girl In The World", Jennifer Holliday's "And I'm Telling You (I'm Not Going)", Jeannie Tracy's "The Power" and the insanely huge circuit anthem "Don't You want My Love" featuring Debbie Jacobs. The team has worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, Donna Summer, Paris Hilton and Cher. Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Miami, FL, Abel Aguilera has always had a passion for house music.

DJ Phil B

Under One Sun Pool Party DJ Phil B began working at The Record Rack, the West Coast’s equivalent to New York’s renowned Vinylmania, where he met another DJ named Jerry Bonham. “I thought I knew everything,” Phil recalls. “But Jerry took my DJ’ing to an entirely new level. He opened up this whole other door for me, teaching me about mixing in key, volume control, and a slew of other techniques I had never even thought about.” Then things really started to take off. Since relocating to America, Phil has played just about every major Circuit event in the U.S., including Gay Disney, White Parties in Palm Springs and Miami, Winter Party Festival, Mardi Gras and Southern Decadence in New Orleans, San Francisco’s Magnitude and Aftershock, Sundance at Russian River, the San Diego Zoo Party, and Gay Pride gigs in nearly every major U.S. city. He’s also held residencies at venues like Avalon, Reflex and Probe in Los Angeles, Club 57, Splash and Tunnel in New York City, the Pavilion and Ascension Party on Fire Island, and San Francisco’s Club Universe, Club Pleasuredome, Fresh and The End Up.

Charlmix has the proven ability to create a connection with masses through music with his own unique rhythm inherited from his Latin roots.

DJS Dave & Gerardo Mercury Rising Opening DJs

Dave & Gerardo, known to many as D&G, are a team in every sense of the word: as DJs, producers, and lovers. They first met in New York and quickly recognized their mutual love for house music. At 26 and 24, and less than two years on the scene, they have appeared at venues across the U.S., Canada and South America. As a pair, Dave & Gerardo seamlessly spin alongside one another, bringing a unique musical experience, which includes mixing fresh tracks with classic vocals. They blend different genres of house music, from tribal beats to vocal anthems, to create their own sound with one thing in common: relentless energy. Dave & Gerardo will make their Winter Party debut this year at Mercury Rising.

Over the past few years, Dee has been featured in major dance events including Ascension Party Fire Island, Winter Party Festival in Miami, NYC Pride, Rio and Sao Paulo Gay Prides, Carnival and New Years Eve in Rio de Janeiro, and Bal En Blanc in Montreal. DJ Eddie Elias Afterglow

Ever since Eddie Elias played his first professional gig in 2000, the New Jersey-based, Dominican-born DJ has been wowing audiences in New York City and around the country with his unique sound and masterful mixing. Deep, progressive grooves are the foundation upon which Eddie builds his sets; where he goes from there depends on the crowd and his remarkably keen instincts. Whether he's dramatically layering an improbable number of tracks during a peak hour performance before a crowd of thousands or working a single favorite record with focused precision at a more intimate after-hours, a night on his dance floor is one that won't soon be forgotten. www.omgmag.com

MAN

how gay men can steer their way onto the road of financial success in the new year

by Max Jiminez

WHEN

it was revealed that high powered Manhattan real estate agent Fredrik Eklund was a former gay porn star, many assumed it would be the end to his career. Five years ago, Eklund performed in films Guilty Pleasures and Hole under the name Tag Eriksson. Today, his $58-million real estate portfolio includes clients like Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, and the Olsen twins. The public’s laissez-faire reaction baffled some and was a relief to others in similar circumstances, including leading financier Dorian Black. Today, Dorian Black is COO of an alternative asset management firm. Five years ago, before graduating business school, he was an underwear model and shot images he worried might come back to haunt him. Surprisingly, it’s not corporate America’s approval he fears; it’s the reaction from family. Like Eklund, who descends from a prominent Swedish family, Black is of the British aristocracy. Several of his cousins hold titles as Baronesses, MPs and Officers of the Order of the British Empire. His mother’s family built the largest timber business in all of Africa while his father’s family founded Video Library which later became Blockbuster Video. So what has changed in America that we are now willing to accept the naughty pasts of people in prominent positions? Have we been desensitized by celebrity sex tapes and crotch images of pop princesses? Or has America finally grown up?

Q&A While making your millions on Wall Street, did you fear your images might come back to haunt you? I really didn’t. I’m proud of my underwear modeling career. Whether good or bad, I believe our pasts may shape us, but they don’t define us. I like to think we are no longer judged by where we come from, but rather how we can contribute today and tomorrow. With hard work comes reward. Did you see Republican Scott Brown’s nude photo in Cosmopolitan Magazine? I did and I was happy to see that the image didn’t cost him his senate seat. How did you end up in modeling? I was dating a well known male model at the time and I joined him at shoots. One day, the photographer asked if I would be willing to step in front of the camera. I said sure and took my shirt off. How long did you model? Not very long. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because I was a student and my mind was focused on business school. What did you learn from your time in front of the camera? As a model you get to see the world and experience different cultures and people. I met some incredible people from all walks of life. I also saw some of the world’s greatest cities.

Everyone knows I am gay and regards my partner as my other half, but like religion, it is not discussed at the office. I believe in a corporate structure where personal lives are left at home. However, if someone in a board meeting were to ask me about my wife, I would simply say, "His name is Marc.” Is it difficult to be a gay man in the board room? The other day, I was pleasantly surprised that the gentlemen across from me happened to be someone I had met at a gay funding raising event. We recounted our last meeting and the other men and women in the meeting simply listened and smiled. Society has changed and so has the boardroom. Let’s talk money. How have you managed to make money in these hard times? My company manages client funds by offering attractive returns in this heightened economic time. Minimum investment is $1,000,000. We are paid for managing the process effectively and correctly for our clients. What’s the biggest mistake gay men make with their money? Many gay men get lost in the DINK (double income, no kids) and SINK (single income, no kids) mentality. Many of us have nothing to tie us down, so we are always on the go: traveling and spending, living in indulgence. I'm guilty of it as well. It’s important that we plan and save for our retirement. Maxing out the 401K and Roth accounts are great ways to keep an eye on the retirement road ahead.

What led you to Wall Street? What are you investing in these days? My father has always had a passion for success and a knack for finance. I have incredible respect for him. So when he came to me with a business model, I couldn’t refuse the opportunity to join him.

Real estate. Some might argue that real estate is a depreciating asset, however, it is probably one of the only long-term investments that will see great dividends in years to come. The key is in years to come.

Do you like being a suit and tie man? Who has $200K to buy a house? Oftentimes, if I know I’ll be spending the day in front of the computer, you'll find me in sweat pants at my desk.

Anyone can start the real estate dream with FHA loans. They require sometimes as low as 3% down. Owning a home is the first step to financial freedom.

What do you like best about your job? There is nothing sexier to me then seeing lots of zeros in a savings account – now that’s hot. What advice do you have for guys feeling stuck in their career? I recently had dinner with a friend in that circumstance. I asked him what his passion was and he said he wanted to merge his love of fitness and cuisine with his own healthy food catering business. To do so, however, he would need to attend culinary school which he couldn’t afford and his current work schedule wouldn’t allow for it. I suggested his first step to living his dream would be to get certified as a personal trainer. Once certified, he could leave his current job, work part time as a trainer and attend culinary in the evenings. Where there is a will, there is a way. The worst thing is for someone to look back on their past and say, "I should have done that with my life." How important is it to be passionate about what you do for a living? Passion is everything. With passion comes drive and if you have drive you can do anything. Also, if you are passionate, others will follow and believe. What defines success for you? Truthfully, the money in my bank account doesn’t define success for me. Success is the feeling I have when I am home sitting on the couch with my partner, playing with my three dogs or hanging out with my family. But money in the bank doesn’t hurt. It certainly doesn’t. Fredrik Eklund is in talks with Bravo to star in a reality show about New York real estate brokers. Do you have your eyes on a possible reality show of your own? I wouldn’t be opposed to it. I'm not sure what my show would be about. By day, Dorian Black’s a corporate financier. At night, he hits the runway in his underwear… Move over cake and wedding shows. 2011 will be the year of the underwear!

| COVER STORY |

living her teenage dream

by Joey Amato When Katy Perry began composing the tracks for her exhilarating and charttopping album Teenage Dream, she found herself inspired by her California roots. “I can’t run from where I came from, nobody can,” says Katy. “I love the vibe that Santa Barbara gives off and I wanted to really tap into the purity of my childhood and that feeling,” says the Grammy nominated singer. “It was really fun to get away and walk into the studio with no make-up on.” The album, which was produced by Max Martin, Tricky Stewart, Stargate, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells, is a glorious evolution from One of The Boys. It showcases Katy’s progression as an artist and has earned her multiple industry accolades. “When I was touring, I wanted people to dance more,” Katy says. “So I wrote an album that made people move, yet didn’t sacrifice the story substance that I had on the last record.” The exuberant “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg was declared “unforgettable” by Entertainment Weekly. “I’m giving everyone the full spectrum on this record,” Katy says. “You’re getting the sugary sweet, but you’re also getting the ‘Oh my goodness, she had to sit down for a minute and let some things off her chest’”. “California Gurls”, which spent six weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts, turned out to be the best-selling digital song of 2010, according to Soundscan, selling more than 4 million downloads in the U.S., and 8 million singles, digital tracks, mobile tracks and videos worldwide. Other smash hits followed including “Teenage Dream” and her current chart-topper, “Firework”. Katy always had a dream of becoming a pop star. “I called the album Teenage Dream because I feel like I will always want to be that pin-up poster. I definitely want to be in everybody’s dreams at all times until I get to Liz Taylor’s age when I’m not in your dreams anymore, and I’m just a diva!” After Katy topped Maxim’s Hot 100 this past Spring, Maxim editor-in-chief Joe Levy mused of her appeal: "It's that feeling you get when you suddenly realize that the smartest, funniest, coolest girl you know also happens to be the best looking and a pretty good skateboarder, too. All of sudden, your crush goes supernova, and this is Katy's supernova moment."

"If you ever want an answer about how I felt about something or what I was going through or what I believe or my convictions or my love, You just have to listen to the lyrics."

Despite her multi-platinum success, Katy takes a light-hearted approach to making music. “I don’t ever really want to come off as trashy,” she says. “But I want people to know I’m definitely having fun.” And fun she has had. Since the 2008 release of One of the Boys, Katy has wowed fans across the globe with her often whimsical, irresistible pop songs, topping the charts in more than 25 countries with memorable anthems including, “I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” “Thinking Of You” and “Waking Up in Vegas.” She has sold more than 22 million singles worldwide. Katy erases any barrier between pop star and audience by writing all her own material, an accomplishment few pop artists have yet to achieve. “You’re getting a pure connection to the artist,” Katy says. “You’re not getting some idea of what that artist should be, you’re getting a direct voice.” When she is not in the studio or on the road, Katy is winning over television audiences. She has appeared on countless talk shows, served as a guest judge on “American Idol,” a celebrity contestant on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and hosted MTV’s Europe Music Awards twice. She has won the awards for Best New Act at the Europe Music Awards, Best Pop Video at the MTV Japan Awards and International Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards, in addition to gracing the covers of countless magazines. After much speculation, Katy has confirmed that “E.T.” will be the fourth single released from Teenage Dream. The track, which is currently available on iTunes, will be sent to radio later this month. If history repeats itself, “E.T.” is destined to become a surefire hit. “If you ever want an answer about how I felt about something or what I was going through or what I believe or my convictions or my love,” she says, “You just have to listen to the lyrics.” Katy's California Dreams 2011 World Tour kicks off in Lisbon, Portugal, on February 20 and includes stops in London, Tokyo and Melbourne, Australia before heading to the U.S. where she will visit Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, New York and Chicago among other cities. The musical force that is Katy Perry is unstoppable and 2011 is shaping up to be another banner year for the young artist, who seems to be living her teenage dream. WORK!

By DJ Joanie It’s early in the year and ‘tis the season of everything makeover for the mind, soul and body. The New Year’s resolutions are resonating, infomercials are taunting the latest diet or workout apparatus and most of us are wishing we hadn’t over-indulged during the holidays. With warm weather on the horizon now is the time to consider moving that body to the beat. Music and work-outs go hand and hand and aerobic high energy music consumption is only second to the club’s dance floors. A majority of MyFlexRadio.com’s listeners contact us from the gyms and treadmills citing that our trax make them sweat and pump a little harder. Jacked in directly to the station via their smart phones or devices they can instantly e-quest a fave song to keep the motivation flowing. And the best thing about having the beat mobile is we’ll be your work-out partner anywhere you choose. Take us running with your dog, doing reps at the hot trendy 24-hour gym, kayaking on the waves or sweating your balls off in the living room while watching Oprah. Having just purchased a home gym I’ll be with ya in spirit! For the New Year we’re launching a line-up of World Class DJ’s to take to the Flex decks. We’d like to proudly welcome Grammy nominated remixer/producer NYC’s Mike Rizzo to the MyFlexRadio.com on-air lineup. Be on the lookout for his weekly mixshows! For now, here’s some exciting early-year releases to start the cardio. Now…..WORK!

On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez feat Pitbull

Remember that old J-Lo movie “Enough”? Abused by her psycho husband she breaks away, gets all martialarts pumped up and does a Lara Croft on hubby until he’s a vegetable. That’s the power of the workout! I’m not suggesting that you take her route on that nasty ex of yours, but empowering yourself and tuning up your muscles makes you more focused. Dropped by her label Epic after her last album tanked, Mrs. Mark Anthony comes back on Island/Def Jam with a surefire commercial release. It uses the beautiful light Latin melody of the 80’s classic Lambada with new lyrics and a huge party shout-out. American Idol’s newest femmejudge will now be back on everybody’s radar with this one. Let the rhythm pump you up as she seduces you to dance! Hands down….an Anthem!

Twist Of Love by Kimberly Davis At press-time the Billboard Dance Community of DJ’s are swooning over this massive diva offering. All I can say is its serving old-school driving diva vocals that hit in all the right places. Think the best from the past from Kim English or Jeanie Tracy and you’ll have this soon-to-be Circuit classic. A former back-up singer for Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam she now fronts lead vocals on tour for famed disco super group Chic. “’Twist of Love” is a celebratory track about that crazy little thing called love,” said Ms. Davis from her recording studio in Manhattan. “It’s a full blooded diva anthem that I hope will redefine the ‘twist’ track for the twenty-first century.” Australian remixer Paul Goodyear crafts a monster around Kim’s gospel vocals. Search it out and get those hips gyrating! Higher by Taio Cruz feat Kylie Minogue Famed Brit R&B Pop superstar finds his NRG dance floor calling and teams up with Aussie Diva Icon for a HUGE feel-good single. Never saw it coming but am I ever glad it’s officially arrived! It proves that pure, fun dance music is back in a big way. No rap break to be found, Pitbull , Lil Wayne or Nicki Minaj aren’t featured on it... Wow! It took some guts for the US record industry to release this as a single! It IS Taio Cruz and he DID have some of the biggest hits in 2010, and I hope I don’t have to explain why Kylie is a dance floor goddess. So head straight to the Wideboys mix for the high-octane version. “Uplifting” is the code word here. This one will make ya wanna go hang gliding! Can’t wait to see what they do for a video! Get Back by Margo Rey Remixer Twisted Dee pulls out the pots & pans percussion for this tribal burner from the artist that brought us “Habit”, one of my fave songs of 2010. “Fame’s just a game that nobody wins…” well, I beg to differ for I believe Margo’s on her way to club stardom. A past appearance on Dr. Phil brought her to media attention, lots of vocal work on commercials and even the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua. She sings in 6 languages and brings a fresh jazz-inspired take to her club releases. Nice, hot & sweaty mover to work out your core! MyFlexRadio.com is re-tooling and expanding in the new year. "...I wanted it to be about the music and dance, not the controversy." In celebration of my Birthday, I am proud to announce that planning for my first music video is underway! The video will be for my new single “Shut Ur Lips”. Over the last month, “Team Binko” has been working hard to make sure fans won’t be disappointed! From castings to rehearsals, each aspect has been carefully planned.

i am

StevenBINKO

It has always been my dream to be featured in a music video… and I always promised myself that when the opportunity came, there would be kick-ass dancing and stunning outfits. The biggest challenge however has been which video I felt strongest about filming. While there are many controversial concepts I’m passionate about addressing, I felt it was important that my first video wasn’t overly political; I wanted it to be about the music and dance, not the controversy. So, what’s the song about and why this one first? I think I speak for the majority when I say that at some point we’ve all faced people talking shit. Honestly, it gets old fast, and I feel this song expresses that perfectly. “Talking gossip, starting all these rumors, you’re leaching on my name; profiting off my fame. Shut you’re lips, you’re nothing but a snitch." I wrote this song with a specific few people in mind; you know who you are. I’m excited to share this video with all of you, and I hope that you can appreciate everything I’ve put together. While this is only the beginning, I can assure you that things will continue to get bigger and better. Make sure to download the song in the mean time! I’m also working on a crazy documentary that’s been filmed over the last 9 years of my life. Titled “Steven Binko : Unscripted”, we’re deciding if it’s going to be an online reality series or DVD film release. Regardless, I’m excited to share the best and worst of everything I’ve been through. It’s real, it’s raw, it’s Unscripted. I look forward to sharing my journey with all of you! -Steven

I hope your new year has started off fabulous and festive with party’s and fun times. February is the time for love and dating and even more parties this month. So get ready to let your special someone know that they're all that and more with gifts, candies and cards. I have been around town quite a bit lately and yes there is a new hot spot in town, Onessa’s Night Club in New Port Richey, Florida - lot’s of drag, hot men, cute bartenders, and soon its first Pageant. When a new LGBT business takes the plunge and opens to serve our community, I get so effen happy!!! It's a new year with another hot new club to play at with Miss Love. On another note, I want to give a big shout out to our president Mr. Obama. You are doing a lot for the LGBT folks in the USA. I am proud of you and support you - keep it up Mr. President. Also, I had the pleasure attending a wonderful night of comedy with Eddie Safety a LGBT comic in partnership with Outings and Adventurers and Sarasota Gay Youth Center, known as "also youth." I was in great company with Robert, Barbara with Outings and Adventures, Al and Chuck from ALandchuck.travel, and Greg and Victor from rainbow411.com. It was just a great night and a great cause with all the proceeds going to help "also youth." I also went to The Parliament House and saw Cazwell live with the hottest boys I have ever seen, the P House was packed beyond belief, and everyone had a fun and sexy night thanks to the staff and cast at P House for another super show. Well guys and dolls 'till next time, you do you and I will keep doing me!!!!!!!

| INTERVIEW |

Being Something Wonderful By Wm. Cor y Jeffries

an interview with Diva Frank Marino It was on a cold November 20 in 1963 that Oceanside New York welcomed a force larger than life into the World. This “force,” born Frank Marino, always knew that he “wanted to be something wonderful” in life and rightfully so, a Star was born! If only it was that easy though. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Las Vegas Superstar Female Impersonator, Frank Marino to learn more about what makes this man tick. My interview proved to be great fun and I quickly learned that this Diva is larger than life, here’s some of what I got:

OMG!77

| INTERVIEW | Cory Jeffries for OMG Magazine: You told me you always knew that you “wanted to be something wonderful,” how did this journey begin? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: I was originally in school studying to be a Doctor. I worked at a Pharmacy in New York while in school. Oddly enough, I spent more time working around the Make-up counter than I did with the meds. Then one Halloween, I did my first “drag” appearance just for kicks. I was hooked! I loved it! From there, I started working the Bars and Clubs in NYC and clawed my way up the ladder of success, and trust me that was even harder to climb wearing high heels! OMG Magazine: So you found out female impersonation was your thing - how did you get on the stage? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: My first real job was at the Sunrise Musical Theater in 1984. From SMT came my role in “An Evening at La Cage.” Having seen Joan Rivers’ comedy routine, I found her to be a very funny lady, so I started doing my version of Joan. It was amazing; I was bringing in $150 hour impersonating her! When Joan and I met, it was an instant connection. In August 1986, Joan sued me for $5,000,000 citing that my act was using copyrighted material and that the show’s advertising was misleading. I tweaked my act, we talked, and we reconciled now we are good friends and have even appeared on TV shows together. OMG Magazine: How did you get to Las Vegas? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: Every night, I would take to the stage in my glittering Bob Mackie gowns, and Manolo Blahnik stiletto heels entertaining them the best I could. Then one night, in walks critically acclaimed Actress and Singer Pia Zador. Yes, Ms. Zadora, at my show… WOW, what a kick! It was karma, it was kismet. After the show, Pia and I met and talked backstage, the next thing I know, La Cage was Vegas bound headlining at the famous Rivera Resort!

OMG Magazine: But with your phenomenal success with La Cage, how did the Diva’s Show come about? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: I was with La Cage until 2009. The show survived the September 11th tragedy and many other economic hits in Vegas, but in 2009, the Producers said enough was enough. They couldn’t afford to stay open anymore, so I went solo and a second star was born! I’ve always wanted MY own show and with Diva’s Las Vegas, I finally achieved that goal. Diva’s is a 75 minute high energy show that features an all star cast of female impersonators. Fabulous woman like Britney Spears, Cher, Diana Ross, Beyonce, Madonna and Dolly Parton stop by for a song or two all the time. For my part in the show, I act as Emcee and bring my own sense of style and flair to the stage with a whirlwind showing of international couture and spectacular entrance as only I can do. OMG Magazine: Wow Frank, you have accomplished a lot in your 26 year career! What would you consider to be your BEST achievement? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: My number one “achievement” is my longtime relationship with the love of my life Alex “Shannon” Schechter. Shannon has always been by my side, and has made the ride that much more enjoyable. A few other highlights would be in 2005, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman proclaimed February 1st, to be "Frank Marino Day." You could have knocked me over with a feather! I mean me, Frank Marino, a day to honor a Female Impersonator, here in America! I was floored! Since then, I was gifted with a Key to the city of Las Vegas, I have a street in Vegas named after me, Frank Marino Drive, named after me. If that isn’t a enough, I have also been blessed with being forever immortalized in the sidewalks of Las Vegas with not one but 2 stars that bears my name on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame. Then in 2009, I was named Las Vegas' "Entertainer of the Century." After performing to over 10 million people, I have been mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as being “worthy of having the most performances on any Las Vegas stage.” I have been so blessed in life with this line of work!

OMG Magazine: Welcome to Las Vegas, what’s next? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: It has been a roller coaster ride of excitement over the years! After 25 years of female impersonation, I am never at a loss for words. Through the years, I have parlayed my life into becoming an accomplished author, newscaster, columnist, spokesperson, and I’ve even been dubbed “America's Favorite Male Actress!” My first book, “His Majesty, the Queen,” was an immediate success. Who knew people would want to know what makes me tick? OMG Magazine: With a successful Vegas show and a bestselling book, you would think that you had reached the top rung on the ladder of success, right? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: Perhaps, but as a young boy, I learned the sky is the limit, so I kept reaching for the stars. I’ve been blessed that the Stars embraced me. First there was my celluloid debut with Sandra Bullock in the blockbuster hit Miss Congeniality II. I actually played myself in the Vegas show scene in the movie. Isn’t funny how art imitates life? From my film role I returned to the stage for my award winning guest starring role in the Off-Broadway hit play – “Tony and Tina’s Wedding.” I was the Officiate that performed the vows during the wedding scene – great fun!

OMG! 78

| volume 3 | issue 3 | february 2011

OMG Magazine: I can’t imagine topping a key, 2 stars and a street, what do you have planned for your encore? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: I want to be immortalized in wax at Madame Tussaud’s! OMG Magazine: When it’s all said and done what would you like to be most remembered for? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: I want to be remembered for taking a Las Vegas Show from Cabaret to MTV. I mean La Cage was great, but that was Cabaret – then I went Diva’s Las Vegas which I certainly consider it to be MTV! That’s something to be remembered for. OMG Magazine: Any parting words of advice for OMG Magazine? Frank Marino – Diva’s Las Vegas: My parting advice: “Never take no for an answer! Always fight for your dreams!” So folks, there you have it! What a funny, entertaining, interesting man Frank Marino is. To learn more about Frank and Diva’s Las Vegas go to www.FrankMarino.com or check him out on Facebook at Frank Marino.

| BALLROOM UNDERCOVER |

WALKhouse FOR ME of trigGa ebony

By Antwyone Ingram Seeing as Valentines Day is right around the corner, it would only be fitting to give the Florida Ballroom Scene an appropriately themed Valentines Day ball. Trigga Ebony brings you "The Love Hangover Ball" on February 10th, compiled of categories revolving around the bittersweet holiday. Love might not be in the air, but competition and her good friend "shade" might be in the building. This marks Trigga's 10th ball, as well as, a dedication to his good friend Cedric Mugler who recently passed away. Trigga (my previous house brother I might add) is going to throw quite the function and I wish him all the best in reference to his upcoming event and all ballroom endeavors. Let's make it hot Florida, the Love Hangover Ball is a new major event not to be missed.

Antwyone Ingram for OMG! Magazine OMG!: How long have you been in the ballroom scene? I have been a part of the Florida ballroom scene since 2001 OMG!: How long have you been an Ebony. I became an Ebony in May of 2010 OMG!: Your thoughts on the current and new talent in the ballroom scene. There is a lot of new raw talent in Florida and I feel this talent will blow the ballroom scene off the roof. OMG!: Elaborate on your Love Hangover ball. What inspired the theme and categories? Well, I got the title from one of my favorite ball room songs which is "Love" and I tweaked it a little to fit the occasion. Being that I wanted to have the ball in Feb., I thought a Valentine’s Day theme with a twist would fit just perfect. It took me about 2 weeks to actually come up with the categories for the ball, but I had so much fun doing it... It gives me the opportunity to dig into my abyss of creativity. This is a very special ball to me because it’s my 10th one, and I’m dedicating it to one of my closest friend, Cedric Miyake-Mugler, who I lost last

year in November. Hopefully he will be proud of me. OMG!: What category do you walk? I walk American and European Runway OMG!: Are you looking forward to any category/ categories in particular for your ball? Yes... being that Runway is my category... I will be most def looking forward to that. I also like Sex Siren, Performance, Drags Transformation and Face. OMG!: Do you have any favorites in any particular categories in the Florida ballroom scene or National ballroom scene? Yes… Legendary Stasha Garcon; Overall East Coast Mother, Cabbage Patch Ebony; Overseers, Tim Ebony, Zion Mugler, Raquel Balenciaga, Andre Mizrahi; My Father, Legendary Danny Ebony and Kevin Prodigy (MC's for my ball); and Selvin Khan. OMG!: Who influenced you to actively participate in the ballroom scene? DSquared Ebony has been a big influence on me in the ballroom community being that my first ball I ever attended was thrown by him

in Tallahassee, FL in 1998. It’s so ironic too that we were born on the same month, day, and year. OMG!: Do you have any mentors, mothers or fathers within the scene? I have a few mentors… DSquared Ebony, Warren and Rico Milan and my gay mother Stasha Garcon OMG!: What are your hopes for Florida's ballroom scene? I hope to increase the participation and support system of the Florida ballroom scene. We have what it takes to become a major impact of the ballroom scene nationally. All it takes is hard work and dedications, skills which I have. OMG!: Do you feel our scene has room to grow and what are your thoughts as far as the progression of the ballroom scene? The FL. Ball room scene has a lot of room to grow and will grow without a shadow of a doubt. Progression takes hard work and dedication, so as long as keep those qualities then we will continue to move forward.

| HEALTH | Julie Hayes, 39, work-at-home IT specialist, faced the same problem. "Being able to stay home with the kids was great, but every once in awhile I'd find myself stuck in my own head and want to get out. I loved to go to the gym but once I was there, I'd have no idea what to do." So the question is, what can one do to make the most out of your exercise time? A few suggestions follow:

Have a Game Plan Lacking an outlet for all that pent-up energy and not having an “established” game plan when you go to the gym can often lead to frustration, anger and disappointment. But rather than let that brick wall keep building, in this age of internet technology, might I suggest websites like menshealth.com or womenshealthmag.com. There you will find an affordable personal training program – customized specifically to your needs for as little as $20 a month. Not a bad investment for a structured sane program that makes the best use of your time in the gym! The site also provides plenty of free advice like, “The Complete 300 Workout; A Marine's Workout; the At Home Fat Blaster,” just to name a few sample workouts. A structured workout will make you feel better, be stronger and be better prepared to handle anything your crazy life throws at you!

Commit to Looking Great in 2011

Get Inspired Get Fit in 2011 by Wm. Cor y Jeffries, LMT, NMT

Congratulations! You have made it through the Holidays, now it’s time to ring in 2011 with a new healthy outlook. In this edition of MBS, I offer up some basic “motivational” advice to help inspire you to get fit in 2011! Too often, today's homes are plagued with gigantic, dusty machines known as treadmills, rowers and elliptical trainers. If you're like me, this equipment sometimes doubles as a clothes rack, hidden and lost to their original function, but aggravatingly, not forgotten. Countless times I’ve been heard to say, "I've got to drag that thing out and start using it again." Usually that mantra is spoken at this time of the year, where I take inventory of my life and health while formulating New Year’s resolutions. But more often than not, these expensive pieces of equipment stay hidden in the shadows, while I sit on the sofa and “create” other distractions to avoid using them as exercise machines. The same could be said for gyms. How often have people signed expensive contracts with fitness clubs, only to stop going after the "I just joined a gym!" exhilaration wears off! When I had this conversation with the former manager of my local gym, he said this feeling usually occurs within the first 14 days of joining! That’s right 14 days! Furthermore he told me, women face a more difficult time staying fit — exercise often falls by the wayside in the daily juggle of family, home and career. "I had thought going to the gym might be just what I needed, but actually finding the time to do it? Hah!" said Gail Reilly, 36, local nurse, mother of 2. "I could barely find time to take a shower."

Let’s face it, as a Gay man, often times our inspiration to workout comes from ego. I hate to admit it but men are very visually attuned, and it seems more prevalent with gay men! More often that not, in our Qmunity we are constantly bombard with looks and image! Whose hot and who’s not… go to any Gay bar on a Saturday night and you will see the “hot gay men” with fabulous bodies, surrounded by other “A-list” hot bodies. Yes, I know this sounds shallow. I know plenty of gay men that a comfortable in their skin just as they are. So over the years, I have learned if you aren’t doing the gym/fitness/ diet “thing” for yourself you’re just wasting your time. It may be slow going at first, which can be the most frustrating. But over time you will see your improvement, going from a half-mile to a mile, then using the incline, then running. Here’s the deal, for results in 2011 - make it a point to carve out your own time. Made a schedule and stick to it. At first work out just twice a week, then three times, then four, work at your own pace. Have a great workout, but stop rewarding myself with food afterwards that only keeps your weight up and frustrates the whole process. Instead reward yourself with a good book, a movie or a new outfit. It's made all the difference." We all know that getting fit isn't easy. But, commit to yourself in 2011 and make the change in your life that you want. Do it for yourself! To get the most from your workout, plus have the incentive to keep coming back? Here are some helpful tips to keep exercise from becoming yet another chore in your life: Choose activities that are fun, not exhausting. Use music to keep you entertained. Surround yourself with supportive people. Find a companion to exercise with you if it will help you stay on a regular schedule and add to your enjoyment. Keep a record of your activities. Reward yourself at special milestones. Nothing motivates like success! Don't overdo it. Do low- to moderatelevel activities, especially at first. You can slowly increase the duration and intensity of your activities as you become more fit. Over time, work up to 30-60 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week.
