Decision on Councilman Palermo The federal grand jury’s decision to indict Councilman Palermo does not affect his ability to remain on the City Council. The City of Omaha Charter (Sec. 2.05) only automatically forfeits a council member’s position if he or she is convicted of a felony or any crime involving a violation of the City of Omaha’s oath of office. At this time, Councilman Palermo is charged with violations of federal law, not convicted. However, the same provision of the Charter requires forfeiture of office if City Council meetings are missed. While the length of Councilman Palermo’s incarceration is unknown, he faces removal from office if he is absent from Council meetings for three consecutive calendar months without being excused by the
Council. Also, regardless of whether he is excused or not, he would automatically be removed after missing six consecutive calendar months of meetings. It is the opinion of the Law Department that missing a meeting due to pretrial incarceration on a federal indictment is not an excusable absence. If Councilman Palermo resigns or forfeits his office, the remaining council members will vote on his replacement. That replacement would require a majority vote and a tie vote is a vote to deny the nominee. Nebraska law requires the City of Omaha to have a seven-member Council and therefore, the Council must replace Councilman Palermo if he resigns or forfeits his seat. ★

Our Family Plays Games, LLC is a family-owned business, located right here in Omaha, Nebraska. Miklos, Starla and Grant are on a mission to promote growth and awareness of the modern board game hobby to communities who may be unaware that board games have gone beyond the likes of Monopoly, Sorry or Clue. From day one, their goal has been to bring more BIPOC’s and families from all walks of life into the modern board game hobby while also promoting the need for diversity and inclusion within the board game community. They launched their brand on social media in 2018 and by January 2020, they started posting videos on YouTube. Their videos proved to be funny, informative and most importantly relatable, so much so that by June 2020 they were featured on Good Morning America and interviewed by Michael Strahan. Since then, they have been featured on several media programs and in publications, such as - NBC News Online, Senet Magazine (UK), Ligadas.com (Brazil), WOWT (Ch. 6), KETV (Ch. 7), a variety of YouTube programs, podcasts, and each week they can also be seen on KPAO (Cox Ch. 22). Due to the tremendous growth of their audience, in January of 2022, they launched a second program on their channel, called OFPG Voices to highlight and showcase other underrepresented voices in the board game hobby. Currently, their YouTube channel has over 23,000 followers worldwide. In addition, they make special appearances at board game conventions all around the country. Their international appeal has helped them garner a dedicated and growing audience from countries all around the world. Board Game hobby companies and non-hobby companies have hired this team to promote a variety of products from board games to coffee to t-shirts. Did you see Chevalier? If you have not, get to the Dundee Theatre and see it. Did you know… he was a Black man in Paris in the 1700 who rivaled Mozart as a violin virtuoso? He was part of the French Revolution. He was brilliant! I was so impressed, I will no doubt see it again before it leaves our market. Yet again, art imitates life. Many of the issues that he faced, we face today. Being undervalued because of the color of his skin was an issue. The countrymen did not believe that he was capable of the music he played. He was

denied the chance to lead in the music of his time because he was Black. He was labeled before they ever heard him play. He excelled in every area of his life. He was a swordsman par excel lance. Conquering the top persons in the field. He was also a boxer. Even though he was the product of a plantation owner father, an African slave woman was his mother, and he was considered a mulatto he was proud of who he was and what he had accomplished. His father saw to it that he was well educated. This production is a reminder of, if you have it in your head and heart, no one can take your essence from you. Watching Chevalier reminded me of the untold stories that have been lost in time about Our greatness. Check out his music on YouTube. CHEVALIER a must see… ★
