he Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts 12th Annual Art Auction was again a success, with over 1,000 collectors, donors, artists and art lovers filling the galleries during the week of events. More than 250 international, national and local artists contributed close to 400 artworks for this year's auction. The fundraiser grossed over $460,000 throughout the four-week auction exhibition and event, making it the most successful art auction to date. This celebration of contemporary art helps support the Bemis Center's exceptional artists, innovative programs and public projects. In the live auction, a Betty Woodman piece drew the auction’s highest bid, $20,000. This event would not have been possible without the generous donations from the over 250 artists, numerous foundations, businesses, individual patrons, members and our board of directors.

rs. Ernie Chupp and Thomas Dunbar were honored with the Candlelight Award in November at the Bergan Mercy Hospital Auxiliary’s 51st annual Candlelight Ball held at Embassy Suites LaVista. The Candlelight Award honors physicians for their many years of service to Bergan Mercy and the community. Glitter was the theme for the evening, from the sparkling crystal and silver wreaths on the doors to the elegant centerpieces. The gourmet dinner was followed by dancing to the music of Robert Glaser and Urban Delight. Chairwomen of this year’s ball were Mary Ellen Wilhelmi and Kathy Gross. Honorary chairs were Bergan Mercy physicians Dr. Thaddeus Woods and Dr. Deanna Armstrong.
