Club Pilates owner Christine Krueger said that although Pilates originated as a form of exercise for exceptionally fit dancers and elite athletes, instructors now work with people at various fitness levels, including beginners. Group classes are available seven days a week throughout the day, Krueger said. “We’re not just offering Pilates as a side note.”

Club Pilates’s instructors must complete 500 hours of training before they’re certified to teach. They can also alter exercises for individual special situations.

“This is something that is not about just looking good. It can also help you recover from an injury or perhaps a surgery,” Krueger said. “Private sessions can actually be customized to that

person’s needs and we can give them a modification so they can do an exercise that will still work the same muscles, but not aggravate the injury…We’ve had people say their physical therapist tells them to come and do pilates. If insurance only covers so many physical therapy sessions, a great next step is to start a pilates practice.”

J“We provide concierge medical care, which is not common these days. We do house calls for our patients having larger surgeries, like tummy tucks or face lifts,” she said. “We’re very active in patients’ recovery processes and understand that about 20% is what I do on the operating room table and 80% is how people heal.”

For any procedure, final results aren’t evident right after a patient wakes up from surgery, Jacobson said, and post-operative attention enhances pre-operative patient education.

“We can guide you along in reassuring you what is normal,” she said. “We’re trying to minimize your downtime, but also give you the safest and most predictable results throughout that process.”

Jacobson collaborates with other wellness providers to refer patients to services like nutrition and fitness counseling or lymphatic massage that can optimize their outcomes. The relatively young practice is already seeing many referrals from past patients, she added.

“A lot of that has to do with people being pleased with their care here, overall.”

FARM TO TABLE CAFÉ Crystal Bock Thiessen & Jake Thiessen

HUB CAFÉ

ub Café is more than a local eatery,” said Crystal Bock Thiessen, who co-owns the establishment with husband and executive chef Jake Thiessen. During its nine years in business, Lincoln’s farm-to-table café has become exactly what its name suggests.

“We have positioned ourselves as a community hub for good, locally-sourced and chef-driven food, with one of the best patios and balconies in town,” she explained.

From May to September, the Hub hosts a weekly Wednesday Farmers Market with a special monthly menu that features ingredients from the vendors and growers.

In 2024 the Hub introduced a holiday pop-up bar, The Holiday Hub, which

will run annually from late November through the end of December. This year, they also extended their hours and are now open Tuesday through Sunday into the evening, with an afternoon happy hour and a monthly rotating pizza and dinner menu.

Located right off the bike trails in Union Plaza, the Hub Café is continuing to expand its role as a gathering place where good food and community naturally come together.

eneral Fire and Safety CEO Jason McDonald said his licensed and certified technicians provide expert installation and service for a full range of fire protection—fire sprinklers, alarms, suppression systems, extinguishers, and more—with technicians available 24 hours a day for emergencies. No matter what the need or circumstances, customer service is paramount.

“We always have someone answer the call. There’s no automation to it,” McDonald said. “We’re locally owned in Nebraska; I’m from Kearney originally. We know what Nebraska values are. We love serving the Lincoln and Omaha communities.”

He added that residential and commercial clients alike can trust that General Fire and Safety provides quality products backed by conscientious installation, inspections and training, and excellent service to ensure the highest level of protection against fire hazards and other safety risks to lives and property.

“They know what to expect from us. We follow through…Customer service is at the core of what we do,” McDonald said. “We want to be the one call that does it all.”

Brittney Keller, D.C., leads a practice that serves families across their lifespan.

“It’s not just neck pain, back pain, headaches—but whole body, holistic health,” she said.

Care may start as early as preconception fertility support or during pregnancy, Keller said.

“A lot of the women we see want to have minimal interventions,” she said. “Chiropractic really helps support their body in reaching those goals and having the birth that they want, minimizing stress and intervention for the birth process.”

For infants and children, the focus turns to challenges such as sleep issues, or feeding and digestion problems, Keller added. “We can do so much to help them naturally and drug-free.”

As it adds new patients, Thrive Family Chiropractic’s team also continues to grow.

“Our doctors are highly trained and specialized in prenatal and pediatric care, and we do a lot of extensive training with our new doctors to make sure that we’re all providing congruent care,” she said. “We have a multi-doc team that collaborates on care planning and works together to provide the best care possible.” THRIVE FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC 5960 Vandervoort Drive, Suite 120 Lincoln, NE 68516 402-615-6022

ntoine Exteriors offers a full spectrum of services, from roof repair and maintenance to siding and gutter installation, and the team is still growing as business booms through personal referrals and excellent online reviews.

“We always try to deliver the best service for the best customer satisfaction,” owner Frantz Antoine said. Plus, the team listens to its customers.

“Most companies will get the job done, get paid, and move on,” Antoine said. “But we try to get a little bit of feedback so we can learn how to do things better: Did we do what we said we were going to do? Did we clean up well? And, most importantly, if you had to go through

this process all over again, would you choose us? If those three questions can be answered with a confident ‘yes,’ we’ve done our job well.”

Community activity is also important, Antoine said. The company proudly supports Visionary Youth, a local nonprofit that serves minority youth and families by assisting with basic needs and fostering more equitable opportunities for success.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

roperty management is complex, said Ashley Holmes, vice president of Property Management for LINE Partners, who leads a team of professionals providing comprehensive services for local property owners. It’s one of the areas of expertise of LINE Partners, which offers a full line of commercial real estate services in Lincoln and surrounding areas, its targeted service area and inspiration for the company name (LINE is short for Lincoln, Nebraska).

“Property management covers a lot of ground, from collection of rents to property maintenance, there’s obviously a lot we can help property owners with,” Holmes said. “When owners feel overwhelmed by everything that comes with managing a property, it’s beneficial to bring in an experienced team that can handle it all.”

She pointed out that property management services are customized to fit

each client’s needs, whether it’s financial management, reporting, facilities analysis, contract coordination, lease management, or marketing.

“Our goal is simple: we want to help you get the most out of your property while protecting your investment,” she said. “We’re here to help you grow and safeguard your assets.”

Alittle flexibility goes a long way in successfully collecting debts from consumers, said AR Solutions president and CEO Aaron Newell. The company has stepped beyond the typical practice of merely making repeated phone calls by providing multiple channels of electronic communication.

“Our strength is talking to the consumer, explaining the account, why they owe what they owe, and then coming to a resolution,” Newell said. “As long as we can get those channels of communication open, usually we can get done what we need to get done, and get our client paid. And the consumer gets the debt resolved.”

In the first 18 months of testing expanded communications with a small number of clients, AR Solutions collected hundreds

of thousands of dollars in past-due payments from consumers.

Newell’s commitment to service includes providing resources like an e-book available at go.arsolutionsinc. com/the-cashflow-formula and helpful videos accessible to anyone online.

“Doesn’t matter if they’re a client or not,” he said. “It’s client education, brief reels of little things they can do to boost their internal collections.”

FARM BUREAU

Home insurance protects the most significant investment most people will make in a lifetime, so it’s important to find a representative who will make sure they have the best coverage possible to meet their specific needs. It’s also important to provide outstanding service when a claim needs to be made, especially when customers are managing a crisis or disaster—from theft to water infiltration to fire—that has not only damaged their home, but also threatened their sense of security, said David Duff of Farm Bureau Financial Services. He’s built his business on being there from start to finish when his clients need him.

“We strive for customer service and customer satisfaction,” he said, adding that he doesn’t forget that people have many options when it comes to insurance and wants customers to feel good about choosing Farm Bureau and his services as an agent. Being caring and conscientious goes a long way, he said. “A lot of it goes back to if the person who’s representing you is being there for you.”

K DRYWALL

rieser Drywall & Insulation has been working with commercial and residential clients for more than three decades, and is about to bring another generation into the family-owned business. The team’s amassed expertise is impressive, but service is paramount.

The company provides a scope of services that includes insulation and drywall for homes and commercial buildings, as well as commercial metal

framing and acoustical ceilings. The team doesn’t shy away from challenging projects, like aging structures that require more time and attention, or unique solutions. Krieser Drywall & Insulation stands behind its work.

“If any issues arise, I’m easy to get a hold of. We’ve got an amazing team that will make sure any problems are rectified quickly. Customers come first at Krieser Drywall & Insulation.”

STORAGE UNITS Lisa Paladino

enting a storage unit for one’s special items often means trusting those items to someone else, and the folks at Dino’s Storage know that a personal touch means a lot to their customers.

“We have a person at every location,” owner Lisa Paladino said. “A lot of businesses are going to automation with kiosks and the internet, and the customers never see a person.”

The family-owned business has been in storage for 25 years and takes pride in being involved in the community. They can be found hosting free tailgates on game days, as well as hosting other events for the family with food trucks and a dog-shaped bounce house.

Dino’s has storage units conveniently located downtown near Memorial Stadium. This is perfect for tailgaters who want to store their grill, pop-up tent, and other tailgate accessories throughout the season versus hauling them downtown every game day. This location is also perfect for college students who need a spot to store their things during the summer.

At the Northern Lights location, customers will find a modern storage facility with an indoor loading area and climate-controlled storage.

BUBBLE TEA Paulina Nguyen

Kung Fu Tea Franchisee Paulina Nguyen loves introducing people to her family-owned company’s bubble tea, and her team takes pride in every batch of boba they make. The drinks are made with either a honey or a brown sugar boba created from tapioca starch, made fresh every four hours to ensure the best possible quality.

“We cook the brown sugar boba for about 20 extra minutes,” Nguyen said. “It’s really sweet and soft, but chewy.”

Along with the boba, Nguyen and her staff offer a wide variety of toppings like red beans, jellies, and popping bubbles, which have a thin, gel-like skin that bursts when squeezed. The tea shop offers four different kinds of tea— black, green, Oolong, and Thai—and an

impressive hot and cold drink selection that can be customized. “We have over 100 drinks,” Nguyen said.

The location has recently expanded to offer TKK Express Fried Chicken featuring original, crispy mild, and crispy spicy chicken with a selection of sides.

“Whenever I see people happy with their food or drink, I’m so happy,” Nguyen said.

Dr. Meghan Hungerford

COSMETIC DENTISTRY

SMILE INNOVATIONS DENTISTRY

Meghan Hungerford, DDS, said she loves the moment when a cosmetic dentistry patient sees themselves in the mirror for the first time after the crowns, veneers, or implants are in place and the transformation is complete.

“For people who hid their smile when they laughed, their world changes…lots of joy,” she said. “That’s the fun part of dentistry for me.”

Attention to detail creates a smile that looks great but also fits the patient’s face, Hungerford said.

“We are staining and glazing and customizing while the patient’s in the chair to make everything as beautiful and naturally aesthetic as possible,” she explained.

Hungerford practices general dentistry for patients of all ages in addition to cosmetic dentistry. She embraces new technologies for both, such as 3-D scanning to replace uncomfortable dental impressions and laser whitening that gives patients fast results with reduced sensitivity compared to older methods. She also provides facial aesthetic services, such as laser treatments and microneedling, that enhance a patient’s appearance one step further.

“I think that’s what separates me,” she said.

EVENT VENUES The Wubbels Family

even Willows Weddings & Events checks all the boxes: housed on a picturesque 30-acre horse farm only 15 minutes outside of the city; versatile 10,000-square-foot Amish-built barn facility with a 40-foot stone fireplace; spacious bridal and groom suites; room for seating up to 400 guests; and in-house catering and bar options, including signature cocktails.

But what really stands out is the level of service, said Heidi Wubbels, who owns the venue with husband Aaron. Clients are treated like family by the couple and their seven children, who are part of both the business name and operations.

“You don’t just get our venue, you get our family,” Wubbels said. “It was a dream of mine to be able to work with and serve awesome people and do it alongside my kids and my husband.”

Seven Willows’ timeless ‘Barn Bougie’ aesthetic lends itself to be the perfect fit for many trends, including boho, rustic, garden party, and black tie formal.

“We’ve had birthday parties, grad parties, quinceañeras, proms,” she said. “We do lots of corporate events, nonprofit fundraisers, too.”

Aquest that every business and commercial property owner shares is finding a trusted insurance agency that will cover their specific needs. This pursuit has led many to Vault Insurance & Risk Management.

One of Vault’s greatest advantages is being an independent agency. They have been able to build a wide network of brokers and carriers, accessing several different markets. This allows them to offer insurance lines for more complicated risks that many other agencies won’t touch, such as Excess & Surplus, and even commercial real estate.

What makes Vault so special is personal experience. Owner and Risk Advisor Nikki Ostrander has owned a business (outside of insurance) and commercial

real estate. Having been on both sides, Ostrander is able to give thoughtful guidance, knowledge, and peace of mind to her clients. Working alongside her mom, Terri Watts, is also invaluable as Watts has been in the insurance industry for over 40 years.

“The most rewarding part of what I do is getting to know good people and referring them to other good people,” Ostrander said. “Building a solid network is what keeps my world turning.”

COMMERCIAL LITIGATION

ilgers Graben is a nationwide law firm with 15 offices around the country and attorneys licensed to practice in 28 states, but its home office remains in Lincoln, where it was founded in 2011.

“We primarily practice complex commercial litigation with a sub-specialty in patent litigation and trademark services. We have also expanded into corporate law, and government investigations and regulatory enforcement,” said Heather Hilgers, founding partner and owner.

“We are divided into two main practice groups: commercial litigation and discovery counsel services.”

The firm has been certified as a woman-owned business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.

In 2024, the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms also certified Hilgers Graben as a woman-owned law firm, making it the largest in the country to receive that recognition. Hilgers Graben has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America five times, and has been named a Best Law Firm three times by U.S. News and World Report. The 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators also includes 11 Hilgers Graben attorneys.

Agent Michelle Boden, who has been with State Farm for 30 years, places a strong emphasis on stability and financial strength.

“We are backed by a insurance company that has been around for 102 years. We are not a stockholder company; we are owned by our customers,” Boden said. “We are local and our clients always work with us directly in their time of need, not an 800-number.”

Fundamentally, agents help people manage the risks of everyday life, Boden said. It’s important to create a plan that meets a client’s unique objectives.

“We provide a holistic, needs-based approach when working with our clients. Each client is different and their needs are different,” she said, adding that she is licensed in Nebraska and Iowa and works with all of the products and services State Farm offers. “Because we offer such a wide array of products and services, we are in a better position to be able to tailor policies to provide a personal plan that helps our clients reach their goals.”

Jeni Meyer SMETTER TOWNHOMES

LUXURY TOWNHOMES

Specializing in top-notch materials, pride in workmanship, and outstanding service, Smetter Homes has built over 800 houses in the Lincoln area since 2003. Sales Representative Jeni Meyer, who is also a Realtor with Nebraska Realty, already appreciated the quality and value of the properties by the time founder Sean Smetter asked her to join him in 2017, when he started Smetter Townhomes.

“He wanted to build something that could meet a variety of people’s needs at an affordable price,” Meyer said. “Our townhomes are virtually maintenance-free; the exteriors have natural stone and vinyl siding, and the inside is very low-maintenance…We have a one-year builder warranty in place, so home buyers have the assurance they’ll be taken care of.”

Buyers range from single parents to young families to downsizing retirees, Meyer said. To meet growing demand, Smetter Townhomes has four developments around the Lincoln area with future developments in the planning stages.

“We take great pride in making sure our buyers are happy during and after the sale,” Meyer said. “That was the goal: a luxurious product at an affordable price.”

COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE

Established in 1961, NAI FMA Realty is a longstanding leader in the local commercial real estate market. The full-service third-party property management and brokerage firm has approximately 4.5 million square feet in Lincoln and greater Nebraska under its umbrella, and most of its dedicated team—including CEO Drew Stange—hails from the area. “The firm builds trust and credibility in the community through their bi-annual market report it has compiled since 2008. The market insights are crucial for clients to make informed decisions about buying, selling, or leasing property.”

“I think what sets us apart from many other providers in town is we are independent, third-party servicers, with no equity ownership in any of our managed or listed properties. This helps us to keep our clients first and working in their best interests,” said Mike Ball, vice president of sales & leasing.

NAI FMA is an ideal partner for commercial real estate buyers, sellers, owners, tenants, or developers, given the team’s depth of knowledge, experience, and access to real estate markets worldwide through the NAI Global network.

“We do a lot of collaborations,” president Richard Meginnis said, adding that relationship-building is key. “You want that personal experience.”

This award-winning, family-owned firm is led by Kris Patton, a third-generation interior designer. She follows in the footsteps of her mother and former owner, Diane Gernstein, former partner Nancy Pesavento, and her grandmother and founder, Joan Sorenson.

“As designers, we draw inspiration from everything around us,” Patton explains. “Our knowledge of diverse styles keeps our approach fresh and distinctive. We listen to our clients, understand their vision, and guide them toward

something truly unique. There’s a lot of psychology involved in design.”

Patton emphasizes the firm’s client-focused philosophy: “We introduce clients to ideas they may not have considered, taking them beyond their comfort zones to discover personalized, oneof-a-kind designs. The relationships we build allow us to create spaces that truly reflect each individual. Our designers aren’t just following trends or imposing their own style—they’re helping clients uncover what speaks to them.”

RUNNING STORES

Lori Borer FLEET FEET

t starts with your feet,” said Lori Borer, owner of the Lincoln Fleet Feet store and the chain’s two Omaha-area locations. “If your feet hurt, you don’t want to move…We really take that seriously. I make sure my staff is trained well and educated.”

Fleet Feet is part of a network of specialty running, walking, and fitness stores. Borer said the company’s fitting process ensures that athletic shoes fit properly and help wearers move their best for activities ranging from short walks to long-distance running. Medical professionals often refer patients to the store.

“We have a 3D fit process,” Borer said, explaining that size, width, volume, and heel size are among the dozen measurements taken. “It’s much more dialed in than just looking at someone walk.”

Fleet Feet staff then use the data to recommend the best shoe for each client considering both comfort and function. The company’s relationships with many manufacturers means customers who need extended sizes and widths can also be fitted.

“We know shoes very well,” Borer said. “But everyone’s feet are different.”

Oatasteoflouisianane.com wner and Chef Pokey Black sees to it that A Taste of Louisiana is the real deal. A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Black has curated a menu that includes a range of Southern fare and soul. His Cajun specialties include chicken and sausage gumbo, seafood étouffée, jambalaya, bayou potato stuffed with shrimp and crawfish, po’boy sandwiches, and oxtails over rice, along with delectable starters and sides like a variety of cornbreads, collard greens, sweet potatoes, Cajun rice, boudin, fried frog legs, and Black’s homemade potato salad. Even mainstream items like chicken wings or green beans have a Southern flair.

To keep things authentic, Black regularly brings in ingredients and spices from his home state.

“People love it. They love the flavor,” Black said, adding with a chuckle: “It might be a bit spicy to some folks.” But the Midwestern palate seems to be adjusting just fine.

A Taste of Louisiana is also known for their desserts. Each week they feature a different homemade cake, such as the hummingbird cake, chocolate banana cake, and the crowd-favorite bourbon pound cake.

COFFEE ROASTERS

THE COFFEE ROASTER

The staff at The Coffee Roaster offers their customers a unique experience. A recent expansion and remodel features glass doors to give visitors a glimpse of beans being roasted on site.

“The roaster used to be kind of hidden in the back, and now it’s really on display for people to see,” said Sam Karnes, who is co-owner of The Coffee Roaster with her husband, Vince Ruhl.

The Coffee Roaster is thriving in its 30th year of business. “We’re Lincoln’s only air roastery,” Ruhl said.

Their roastery processes beans for sale to commercial customers, such as coffee shops, as well as in smaller quantities to individual households. The business

also sells grinding and brewing equipment, bulk tea, and other products from local artisans.

Future plans include introducing a pour-over coffee bar, so customers can sample various blends.

“Our goal is to enhance the customer experience by giving them a way to explore our menu one cup at a time,” Ruhl said. “This allows them to try unique coffees or branch out from a favorite before committing to a full bag.”

Offering a variety of styles at affordable prices for 11 years, Ash & Ash Co. has won several consumer-directed “best of” awards. The locally- and woman-owned women’s fashion boutique—named for owners Ashley Shoemaker and Ashley Fehlman—has a stated purpose to help shoppers find unique pieces they feel comfortable and confident in.

“We have a wide demographic,” Shoemaker said, adding that clothing is primarily in standard sizing but that customized items can be ordered in an extended size range. “We have (customers) my daughter’s age who come in here, and all the way up… We have something for everybody.”

Price point is also a differentiator, the owners said, with affordable pricing keeping sales brisk while ensuring that merchandise is refreshed frequently.

The two locally staffed locations also offer unique licensed Nebraska Cornhuskers items.

“We custom make all of our Husker apparel and T-shirts,” Shoemaker said.

Next up? The owners are hoping to introduce a private label and an Ash & Ash app, which Shoemaker said will be in the works this year.

CEO Steve Kunkel, who leads Stonebrook Companies with CEO Jason Reinke, describes it as “a myriad of companies” with a 20-plus year history in the residential and commercial construction sectors. Although each entity has unique characteristics, one common factor is an emphasis on service to the many communities in which they collectively operate. That means supporting a wide range of organizations, from independent local groups to local chapters of major national nonprofits.

“We support the universities and the colleges. We support the local schools. It’s extremely important for us to engage with the community itself,”

Kunkel said. “Youth sports is another one. And we’re big military people and support veterans’ organizations.”

Youth-serving organizations, health charities, and faith-based service organizations are also included in the mix, he added, explaining that the Stonebrook team’s passion for philanthropy is manifested through donations, sponsorships, and supporting hands-on volunteering. Not only does giving help to individuals enhance the community, it also cultivates a sense of pride.

YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAMS Matt Schulte

YOUTH FOR CHRIST

Youth For Christ’s Lincoln chapter’s executive director, Matt Schulte, said the organization’s purpose is self-evident.

“We are—obviously, by our name—a uniquely faith-based youth program for teens,” Schulte said. “We’ve been doing this since 1969 here in Lincoln and have impacted thousands of kids over the decades. Parents trust us as mentors in their kids’ lives. And kids keep showing up.”

Four outreach programs are offered locally.

“Campus Life has clubs and outreach for kids in high school, middle school, and a kids’ camp. We also have a juvenile justice ministry, which provides chaplaincy and volunteers for youths in jail,

and then we do a program called ‘Parent Life’ for pregnant and parenting teens,” Schulte said. “And we have a brand-new program called ‘Rebalance,’ which is a mental health program for youth.”

Rebalance was developed to help young people who have experienced trauma or notable challenges.

“It’s an evidence-based program that’s been successful in Colorado, and we are bringing it to Lincoln,” Schulte said. “It teaches kids to develop resilience, social awareness, self-awareness, self-management, and relational skills.”

Change House Renovations is a design-build firm that can manage a remodel from start to finish, whether it’s a major project like a kitchen, or addition, or a whole-house remodel.

“Most of our work is larger-scale remodels,” Owner Matt Larson said, adding that after a decade in Lincoln, the company is now branching out into new construction. The Change House team also understands the history and unique features of classic houses.

“We work on a fair amount of older homes, and that’s kind of become a niche of ours,” Larson said.

Outstanding service distinguishes Change House from the competition, Larson said, and the leadership team

represents diverse experience: Larson worked in banking before entering the construction industry, partner Seth Vontz has an insurance background, and Brooke Larson brings marketing and sales expertise.

“Seth handles all of our sales and estimating, and then I’m boots-on-the-ground, in the field, coordinating and doing project management and working with homeowners on their projects as they move along. Brooke, my wife, is our office manager,” Matt Larson said. “It’s about customer service and communication.”

I FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

DR. HEATHER ELTON FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

t’s not enough to simply treat symptoms, said Heather Elton, D.C., DCBCN. Functional medicine focuses on addressing the underlying cause of illness with a goal to restore health.

“It’s different than traditional health care, the fact that we’re really striving to uncover the root cause,” she said. “We work with people who are dealing with all kinds of health issues, and not getting answers as to why they’re feeling what they are…we do a deeper dive.”

Via advanced laboratory findings and evaluation of health history and current state of health, Elton creates an individualized protocol for each patient. Treatment recommendations may range from dietary changes and nutritional supplements to lifestyle modifications.

“Our mission—our purpose—is really to restore hope, health and healing,” Elton said. “Being able to have people see in black and white what’s going on with their body helps to instill hope, and for them to feel like they have ability to start to turn their health around and have some ownership in their health and in their body.”

KATHY PLUNKETT PHOTOGRAPHY

Photographer Kathy Plunkett is exceptional at connecting with people and telling stories with authenticity through her camera.

One recent client wanted to refresh their photo library. The shoot was two days at three locations and involved about 30 different groups of people. The time spent with each group was short, and the people were not paid models, so Plunkett had to connect quickly with the subjects to capture real moments. The resulting photos told the story of a busy, vibrant business where people of all types came together.

Plunkett began in photography when someone who had seen her vacation photos asked her to take photos of their band. That one photo session in 2003

hooked Plunkett on being an advertising and editorial photographer. She started a business while keeping her engineering career, and by 2013, she was a full-time photographer.

Plunkett’s engineering background made her an expert on organizing shoots and finding solutions to meet the client’s creative and budgetary needs.

“But most importantly,” she said, “for a photo to feel authentic, it has to be fun for those in front of the camera. I make sure of that.”

n his sector, Financial Advisor Sammy Zitek, CFP®, said, relationships are paramount.

“Financial planning stretches over decades of a person’s life, so I find it very important for clients to have someone they can trust and someone they know is going to be there for a long time,” he explained. “We help people with their investments, of course—that’s anything from individual accounts to retirement accounts— and the defensive side of financial planning: life insurance, disability, and long-term care planning.”

Zitek emphasized that Renaissance Financial is independently owned and operated.

“When it comes to recommendations that we make, we can use anything in the public market. We don’t have a proprietary product or proprietary model that we have to put our clients into,” he said. “It becomes a discussion of, ‘What are your hopes and your dreams? What are your goals? What are the things that keep you up at night? What’s the financial planning you’ve done up to this point?’ And then from that, we collaborate and bring recommendations to the table that makes sense to the client.”

Molly Cover

NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Holistic practitioner Molly Cover, NTP, understands how a decline in health causes frustration and despair. Her successful experience with natural therapies inspired her to establish her business in 2017 after five years of education and training within the holistic health industry. Today, Cover specializes in detoxification of the body through homeopathy, hydration, and European medicinal practices, working with clients all over the country.

“The body is an amazing regenerative being, and we have to give it the right state and the right environment to heal on its own,” she said. “Illness and disease is like a process, and we don’t get here overnight. We take inventory of your life and how did you get here, and start to reverse and peel back those layers.”

She’s available for clients eager to begin their holistic health journey, Cover said, but for those not yet ready to make a transition from traditional medicine, her practice is now participating in an affordable new membership platform called nourishlifeapothecary.com.

Patients may book their first oral surgery consultation because of troubling symptoms or simply because they want an improved smile. Even when oral and maxillofacial surgery is performed to correct functional problems like chewing, speaking, and breathing, the patient’s appearance may be dramatically enhanced as a result. The practice sees patients interested in corrective, reconstructive, and cosmetic procedures, such as breast augmentation, reconstruction, or reduction; facelifts,

Zone Fence’s slogan, “Quality Fencing Done Right,” is the foundation to maintain customers for life, said owners Blake Moore and Curtiss Johnson.

“At Zone Fence, we offer residential fence installation with a huge emphasis on creating an exceptional customer experience,” Moore said. “While it’s easy to sell fence installation, the hard part is delivering an experience customers appreciate and want to return to. This is what separates us from the rest.”

Moore comes from a longtime corporate background, and Johnson from the construction/fencing industry, so the two launched Zone Fence in 2022 with the objective to create a fencing company

“that delivers in all key components that every customer deserves,” Moore said.

“Everything from our initial meeting to our final walk-through will have the owners’ touch, which we believe is a very important step to maintaining a high-quality result,” he explained.

“We’ve developed a fence estimating and installation process designed to eliminate flaws. Our sales process isn’t flashy or upsell-driven; it’s honest and client-driven, so you never feel pressured to get more than you need.”

ew Start Cleaning Owner CoCo Chairez began cleaning houses in 2017 to help support her mother after Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As the business grew, many of the women who came to Chairez looking for work were strong, single moms, some of whom were escaping domestic assault. Thus, New Start Cleaning became more than a reputable residential cleaning company, but also an avenue of women’s empowerment.

The name “New Start” resonates beyond the team culture. When a new client reaches out, Chairez and her team will do a needs assessment of the home via a walk-through. Then, they do a deep clean, resulting in a fresh start that leaves the house ready to enjoy and maintain.

What sets New Start Cleaning apart is their commitment to excellent communication and trust.

“It can be hard for people to let a stranger into their home,” Chairez said. “This is why we value honesty and building a relationship with the client. We have about 800 clients today; many have been with us for a long time and become more like friends.”

OPTOMETRY

When Kimberly Tucker, O.D. opened Local Eyes Custom Optometry after 23 years at another practice, she had three key goals: provide the highest quality care, ensure the best possible vision correction, and offer a welcoming, beautiful space. By combining cutting-edge technology with a boutique atmosphere, Tucker is creating a unique environment where care and style come together for optimal vision and patient satisfaction. Local Eyes is far from a typical optometric office.

Tucker’s commitment to patient-centered care stands out in an industry often focused on efficiency over personal connection. In a world where health care can feel rushed, her dedication to truly listening to, and understanding, each patient’s needs sets her apart. “My goal is to offer a personalized healthcare experience that helps patients feel confident in their treatment plan,” she said.

Tucker has assembled a skilled and innovative team committed to honesty and excellence. Local Eyes isn’t just about eye exams; it’s also about helping patients feel confident in their eyewear choices with high-quality, luxury glasses and sunglasses available right in Lincoln.

NEUROTOXIN TREATMENTS

cript MedSpa shines when it comes to the results-proven neurotoxin treatments they offer, specifically Botox and Dysport. (They have an excellent loyalty program!) These treatments are popular, but ultimately, it’s about tailoring a treatment plan for each patient.

“We take the time to get to know our patients and their goals so we can personalize their experience,” said Founder and CEO Ashley Gunderson, PA-C. “We’re not going to recommend the most aggressive treatment first. We educate, do things the right way, and strive for more natural-looking results.”

Gunderson and the Script team are committed to innovation and keeping up with the evolving industry. They are proud to be the only med spa in Lincoln with

a TetraPro CO2 COOLPEEL™ laser, and they recently became one of the first offices in Nebraska to offer Ariessence Pure PDGF+ (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor). The outcome of these treatments can be life-changing for people.

Whether it’s wrinkles, unwanted hair, or some other aesthetic stumbling block— Script MedSpa is all about helping people reclaim their confidence and renew their sense of well-being.

PREGNANCY SERVICES

In Lincoln, women who are feeling scared and alone due to an unexpected pregnancy can turn to the Pregnancy Center, where they will be embraced with unconditional acceptance and support.

The Pregnancy Center provides tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and resource materials—all completely free. They ensure professional care is delivered with compassion through their staff, which includes nurses, sonographers, and an OBGYN. They have established relationships in the community for medical referrals, housing, and more.

“Foremost, we educate women about all their options so they can make an informed decision,” Executive Director Pat McCarthy said. “Parenting, adoption, and abortion are all options; however, we

never recommend abortion. Everything we do is done gracefully. We just meet them where they’re at.” They make sure the women leave educated about their choices and not feeling alone.

Pregnancy Center is a faith-based nondenominational organization supported by donations from the community. McCarthy is the main fundraiser while his wife, Kim, the Pregnancy Center’s director, gives their mission its heartbeat with an outpouring of love on the women they serve.

MECHANICAL REPAIR Kendall Warnock

T“You can expect the full, personalized support of our top-notch crew,” Owner Kendall Warnock said. “We’ll keep you updated by text, give you options and photos, and explain costs.”

If you’re busy and don’t know much about vehicles, you can have peace of mind knowing that the team at A1 does— on all makes and models.

“We’re the local shop!” Warnock said. “Many people believe a national dealership

can provide better quality and superior service than an independent shop, but that’s simply not the case. Our team members are ASE Technicians who meet the highest standards in the industry.”

Warnock and his wife, Desiree, are grateful to see the positive ripple effects that their business (which now includes two shops) has had on the automotive repair industry and the Lincoln community.

S CRIMINAL LAW Justin Kalemkiarian & Seth Morris

eth Morris and Justin Kalemkiarian are the Lincoln-based partners on a growing team of seven attorneys serving Nebraska and Iowa.

“Our relentless work ethic, competitive spirit, and adaptability ensure that we fearlessly confront challenges head-on, whether in negotiation or trial,” Kalemkiarian said.

“We don’t just represent clients—we stand as guardians of their liberties, tirelessly striving for fairness and equity in every legal battle.”

He added that the practice’s five core values include “Fearlessness,” meaning willingness to take a case to trial, take a challenging position in court, and face the threat of litigation; “Collaborative,” or drawing from the team’s collective experience and strengths; “Adaptability,” which is following legislative and judicial developments and, when appropriate, using novel legal theories to help clients; “Use of Technology” to even the playing field with government, insurance companies, and larger firms; and “Defenders,” meaning that above all, the attorneys of Liberty Law fight to protect the rights and interests of their clients.
