PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Our Strength as an Organization Comes From Our Diversity as a Group. and celebrating when members renew. If you are curious about what a Spike is, I’d be happy to visit with you, and so will anyone on the Membership Retention committee.

PRESIDENT,

I

Karen McClennen n my last article I discussed our focus and goals for 2018. Here is an update on what we’ve been working on to achieve those goals.

MEMBERSHIP – John Erwin, with John Erwin Remodeling, Inc., our Membership Chair, and his committee, has a goal of ending 2018 with 500 members. As a recruitment incentive, the Membership committee brought back the hugely popular membership trips for top recruiters. In the past, these trips have been a TON of fun and are a fantastic opportunity to engage with fellow members (see page 3 for more information). In addition, the Membership committee has been tasked with developing a marketing strategy on “Why you should join OMB,” which I hear will include our Executive Officer, Angela White, popping into member’s places of business, to spotlight members in videos. You too could be an OMB Star! MEMBERSHIP RETENTION – Linda Mosier-Vaudt, our Spike Chair, and her committee, has an on-going 2018 goal of 80% retention rate. In an effort to retain our current members the committee will be focusing on educating members on why they should continue their membership with OMB. They will also be working on sharing what a Spike is 4 • Chalk Line

ASSOCIATES COUNCIL – Chair Becky Rieger, with Environmental Design, LLC., and Rusty Ruiz, with Hung Right Doors LLC., have been hard at work developing an Ambassadors Program to welcome new members. They hosted their first 2018 New Member Orientation on February 16th at the OMB office. They had a great turn out! Thank you Rusty for providing lunch! If you missed this one – they have three more planned for the year. REMODELERS COUNCIL – Chair Chris McDonald, with Lifespan Construction, has ROCKED at energizing the council. The 1st meeting of the year was standing room only! Under Chris’ leadership, the group will have six larger meetings focused on sharing industry information and six smaller meetings for planning and work groups. (See page 11 for more information) THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING COUNCIL (TAHC) is the political action arm of OMB. Steve Gilmore, with Republic Services, has signed on as OMB’s TAHC Chair and has accepted my challenge to work on educating OMB members on the TAHC's mission. The TAHC is focused on electing candidates that believe in housing affordability, economic development and supporting business. The TAHC is all about issue-based advocacy, securing more funding, recruiting more TAHC trustees and developing broader, long term visions and goals. BOARD OF DIRECTORS – Thank you to all returning board members (listed on page 3) and a special welcome to new board members: Matt Jones with

January 2018 Government Affairs Meeting Sunset Air, Inc., Scottiejo McNulty with Elite Cleaning of Washington, Amy Winters with CW Construction, Inc., Tommy Lowe with Greene Realty, and Barb Whitlow with Olympia Federal Savings. This year’s board spent Saturday, February 10 at Alderbrook Inn at a board leadership retreat. Our focus was on coming together as a board, learning more about our communication styles, board roles and responsibilities and how board members want to engage in 2018. Overwhelmingly, the entire group joined in with enthusiasm to support our key goal of membership throughout the year. Thank you all for your commitment to OMB! Although I just touched on a few committees and councils, I am thrilled to share that all our local chapters and committees are hard at work, along with our dedicated staff, in making things happen for you – our members! It is my continued belief that our strength as an organization comes from our diversity as a group and our combined focus and voice. When our membership numbers grow – so does our voice – on issues that matter to us and our industry. Please join me in sharing our successes with your business friends and why THEY should be members of Olympia Master Builders.
