El ramal de conexión de la autopista A-7 permite conectar con el Resort de una forma más rápida, directa y segura.

L

a inauguración del nuevo ramal de conexión en la autopista A-7 que está ejecutando el Ministerio de Fomento marca un antes y un después en el acceso a Oliva Nova. Así, las históricas retenciones para cruzar el casco urbano de Oliva que han padecido quienes acceden desde el norte tienen los días contados, gracias a un nuevo acceso desde la autopista del Mediterráneo, al sur del municipio.

El ramal, anunciado tras la liberalización de la autopista, ha sido largamente reivindicado por los vecinos, que han llegado a soportar el paso de más de 25.000 vehículos diarios por las calles de la localidad olivense. La apertura del ramal se ha retrasado por la situación sanitaria derivada del Covid y es una realidad desde este otoño. A partir de este momento, quienes quieran disfrutar de las instalaciones de Oliva Nova pueden llegar ya de una forma directa, rápida y sin retenciones, ahorrando casi media hora de trayecto.

El paso de vehículos por la histórica Nacional 332, con una travesía que cruza el municipio de Oliva de un extremo al otro, no ha estado exenta de peligros, ya que el tráfico es muy intenso, con un alto índice de siniestralidad, que con el nuevo enlace desde la A-7 desaparece y, al mismo tiempo, permite humanizar un municipio, Oliva, con muchos lugares por descubrir.

La demarcación de Carreteras del Estado en Valencia ha abierto al tráfico la nueva rotonda construida para el Acceso Sur de Oliva a la AP-7 y que también conecta con las áreas industriales de esa zona y el Camí Vell de Dénia. La circulación por esta rotonda se tiene que realizar a baja velocidad y con prudencia, dado que siguen avanzando a buen ritmo las obras para concluir el enorme proyecto del Acceso Sur de Oliva y se producen cortes del tráfico para el paso de la maquinaria pesada.

Se trata del punto previo a la apertura definitiva del enlace, que ya ha sido inaugurado con gran recibimiento.

Esta nueva carretera, está cambiando el tráfico en la ciudad y el de todo el sur de la comarca de la Safor, uno de los últimos puntos negros de la red viaria valenciana.

he opening of the A-7 motorway connecting branch which is being executed by the Ministry of Development marks a milestone in the access to Oliva Nova. Thus, the heavy traffic jams to cross the town centre of Oliva that have been experienced by those coming from the north will be a thing of the past, thanks to a new access from the Mediterranean motorway to the south of the town.

The branch road, announced after the motorway deregulation, has long been claimed by the local residents, who had to put up with the passing of more than 25,000 vehicles a day through the streets of the town of Oliva.

The branch opening has been delayed due to the health situation derived from Covid and is expected to become a reality between the end of the summer and mid-autumn.

From then on, those who want to enjoy the Oliva Nova facilities will be able to get there directly, quickly and without traffic jams, saving almost half an hour’s journey each time.

The passing of vehicles along the notorious N-332, with a stretch of the road crossing the town of Oliva from

one end to the other, has not been free of dangers, as the traffic is very intense, with a high accident rate, which will disappear with the new access from the A-7 and, at the same time, Oliva will become a more humane town with many places to discover.

The State Roads Department in Valencia has opened to traffic the new roundabout built for the Oliva South Access to the AP-7 which also connects with the industrial site of that area and the Camí Vell de Dénia.

Traffic on this roundabout must be driven at low speed and with caution, work is still to be completed for this huge Oliva South Access project but is progressing at a good pace and disruption of traffic is taking place to allow heavy machinery access.

This is the prior step to the definitive opening of the junction, which was completed in August and is scheduled to be opened in November 2023.

In fact, not only will it change the traffic in town but also throughout the south of the Safor region, one of the last black spots in the Valencian Road network.

oven promesa del pádel profesional, la valenciana comenzó a practicar este deporte a una edad temprana gracias a su hermano. Desde entonces, ha sido una fuerza incansable en el circuito profesional, proclamándose ganadora de numerosos torneos nacionales e internacionales. ¿Cómo y cuándo te iniciaste en el mundo del pádel?

Me inicié cuando tenía 15 años. Al principio yo jugaba al tenis, pero mi madre me animó a que probase el pádel ya que tenía más oportunidades de profesionalizarme. Mi hermano me dio unos bonos que tenía, y gracias a eso pude probar por primera vez este deporte. ¿En qué momento te diste cuenta de que podrías convertirte en una jugadora profesional?

Al principio fué difícil porque combinaba el juego con la universidad. Mi compañera Sandra Hernández y yo intentamos varias veces ser profesionales pero no hubo suerte. En la temporada 2020-2021, Sandra me animó a intentarlo de nuevo y lo conseguí.

Has sido la primera jugadora valenciana en ganar un torneo del World Padel Tour. ¿Qué significa esto para ti?

Es un honor haber hecho historia en el pádel valenciano y ser la primera jugadora valenciana en ganar un World Padel Tour. Nadie me va a quitar este reconocimiento, es un premio a mi trabajo.

Actualmente cuentas con el puesto 9 en el ranking del World Padel Tour. ¿Cómo has llegado hasta ahí?

He llegado con mucho esfuerzo, mucho sacrificio y muchas lágrimas, pero sobre todo, con mucha alegría.

Tu pareja en la pista es Virginia Riera. ¿Qué significa para ti esta persona? ¿Qué te aporta profesionalmente?

Virginia es una gran jugadora, pero sobre todo una gran persona. Me aporta cierto nivel de madurez y también me

A

promising young professional padel player, the Valencian born player started practicing the sport at an early age thanks to her brother. Since then, she has been a relentless player on the professional circuit, winning numerous national and international tournaments.

How and when did you start playing padel?

I started when I was 15 years old. At first, I played tennis, but my mother encouraged me to try padel because I had more opportunities to become a professional. My brother gave me some vouchers he had, and thanks to that I was able to try the sport for the first time.

When did you realize you could become a professional player?

At the beginning it was difficult because I juggled padle with university. My partner Sandra Hernández and I tried several times to become professionals but didn´t have any luck. In the 2020-2021 season, Sandra encouraged me to try again, and I succeeded.

You have been the first Valencian player to win a World Padel Tour tournament. What does this mean to you?

It’s an honor to have made history in Valencian padel and to be the first Valencian player to win a World Padel Tour title. Nobody is going to take this recognition away from me, it’s a reward for my work.

You are currently ranked 9th in the World Padel Tour rankings, how did you get there?

I got there with a lot of effort, a lot of sacrifice and a lot of tears, but above all, with a lot of joy.

Your partner on the track is Virginia Riera. What does she mean to you and what does she bring to you professionally?

Virginia is a great player, but above all a great person. She gives me a certain level of maturity and gives me confidence because she is a very empathetic and understanding

da confianza porque es una persona muy empática y comprensiva. Nos entendemos muy bien, y esa virtud es muy importante en un deporte como este.

Recientemente has firmado un acuerdo de esponsorización con Oliva Nova. ¿Cómo te sientes? ¿Te hace ilusión ser embajadora de un destino que apuesta fuerte por el turismo deportivo?

Para mí es un honor ser embajadora de Oliva Nova, representa un montón de valores con los que me siento identificada, tanto familiares como deportivos, de turismo tranquilo. Estoy súper feliz de poder representar el Resort en cada partido del World Padel Tour que juego y en cualquier evento. ¿Qué opinas de las pistas de Oliva Nova? ¿Te gusta jugar allí? ¿Por qué?

Me encantan las pistas de Oliva Nova.

Pienso que la distribución es excelente y el hecho de estar tan cerca del complejo facilita mucho el acceso a los clientes. Es un campo con muy buenas condiciones. ¿Cómo es el día a día de una jugadora de pádel profesional?

Mi día a día consiste en levantarme, desayunar, ir a entrenar, almorzar, volver a entrenar, comer… También duermo la siesta de vez en cuando, y voy al fisio y al psicólogo… lo que toque ese dia. ¿Cómo es actualmente la presencia de la figura femenina en este deporte?

Por suerte, cada vez la mujer deportista tiene más presencia en los medios de comunicación y en la sociedad, por lo que estamos más valoradas y respetadas. ¿Tienes algún o alguna referente?

Me gustan mucho Rafa Nadal, Serena Williams o Roger Federer. ¿Cuáles son tus planes de futuro?

La verdad es que todavía no me he parado a pensarlos. Estoy licenciada en magisterio, así que ser maestra podría ser una muy buena opción cuando deje de jugar al pádel. Dedicarme a la docencia y seguir vinculada al mundo del deporte sería mi sueño perfecto. Aún tengo que valorarlo bien antes de decidir.

You have recently signed a sponsorship agreement with Oliva Nova, how do you feel about it and are you excited to be an ambassador for a destination that is strongly committed to sports tourism?

For me it’s an honor to be an ambassador for Oliva Nova, it represents a lot of values that I identify with, both family and sport related, and quiet tourism. I am very happy to be able to represent the Resort in every World Padel Tour match I play and in any event.

What do you think of the Oliva Nova courts, do you like playing there and why?

I love Oliva Nova courts. I think the layout is excellent and the fact that it is so close to the resort makes it very easy for customers to access. It is a court with very good conditions.

What is the day-to-day life of a professional padel player like?

My daily routine consists of getting up, having breakfast, training, having brunch, going back to training, having lunch...

I also have a nap from time to time, and I go to the physio and or therapist whatever I have scheduled for that day.

How is the presence of women in the sport nowadays?

Fortunately, female athletes are increasingly present in the media and in society, so we are more valued and respected.

Do you have a referral?

I really like Rafa Nadal, Serena Williams or Roger Federer.

What are your plans for the future?

The truth is that I haven’t thought about it yet. I have a degree in teaching, so being a teacher could be a very good option when I stop playing padel. My dream would be to become a teacher and remain associated with the world of sport. I still have to give it a thought before making a decision.

El club de pádel Oliva Nova sigue creciendo E

n abril de este mismo año 2023, el resort Oliva Nova decidió apostar de una forma decidida por el pádel y construyó siete nuevas pistas en las inmediaciones del Club de Golf, gracias a una colaboración con la empresa líder en formación y desarrollo de competiciones en el Reino Unido, Game4Padel. A día de hoy, el club ya ha acogido varios torneos y cuenta con el programa de formación PadelMBA, que expide certificaciones reconocidas a nivel internacional y dispone de profesores multilingües altamente cualificados.

Este hecho ha convertido al club en una referencia para la práctica del pádel en la zona. Además de todo esto, el club ofrece clases particulares y en grupo para todos los niveles, sin importar cuál sea la edad; así como clases de táctica y posicionamiento, vídeo análisis y muchos otros servicios más que ayudan a fidelizar y satisfacer a todos y cada uno de los clientes que lo visitan.

Este pasado verano 2023, el club ha acogido también torneos americanos semanales, una competición que permite crear sinergias entre los participantes, aprender nuevas técnicas y mejorar el juego en un ambiente amistoso; así como su primer torneo de verano –celebrado del 18 al 20 de agosto– con una participación total de 60 personas. Además, del 13 al 15 de octubre el club recibió el Torneo Adidas Pádel Tour, el circuito nacional por parejas más grande hasta la fecha y que tiene como objetivo ofrecer a los amantes de este deporte una actividad en la que disfrutar tanto dentro como fuera de la pista. Los inscritos disfrutaron de nuevos retos y diversos premios como una pala Adidas o un Volvo durante un año para quienes realizaron la jugada perfecta.

The Oliva Nova padel tennis club continues to grow

I

n April 2023, the Oliva Nova resort decided to make a firm commitment to padel and built seven new courts in the vicinity of the Golf Club, thanks to a partnership with the UK’s leading training and competition company, Game4Padel. Today, the club has already hosted several tournaments and has a padelMBA training program, which issues internationally recognized certificates and has highly qualified multilingual instructors. This has made the club a reference for padel tennis in the area.

In addition to all this, the club offers private and group classes for all levels, regardless of age, as well as tactics and positioning classes, video analysis and many other services that help to ensure the loyalty and satisfaction of each and every one of the customers who visit the club.

This past summer 2023, the club has also hosted weekly American tournaments, a competition that allows creating synergies between participants, learning new techniques and improving the game in a friendly atmosphere; as well as its first summer tournament -held from the 18th to the 20th of August- with a total participation of 60 contestants. Moreover, from the 13th to the 15th of October the club hosted the Adidas Padel Tour Tournament, the biggest national circuit for couples to date which aim is to offer padel lovers an activity to enjoy both on and off the court. Those registered enjoyed both new challenges and several prizes such as an Adidas padel racket or a Volvo for a year if they made the perfect game.

Después de doce ediciones, la prueba ciclodeportiva que lleva el nombre del organizador –el legendario ex ciclista profesional Alberto Contador– se ha convertido en un evento consolidado que acoge a miles de aficionados año tras año.

Este 2023, el Gran Fondo, celebrado el sábado 23 de septiembre, ha contado con algunas novedades respecto a convocatorias anteriores: La carrera se ha desarrollado en un nuevo y único recorrido de 146 kilómetros con 2.538 metros de desnivel; ha incluido un tramo cronometrado en el Coll de Rates (en el kilómetro 38 de recorrido), de 6,6 kilómetros y un 5,5% de inclinación; y ha eliminado la subida al Alt del Miserat dada la dureza del tramo. Por su parte, el trayecto ha mantenido otros ascensos importantes como el mencionado Coll de Rates, Sa Creueta o la Vall d’Ebo, que han propiciado unas vistas panorámicas impresionantes para los corredores.

La doceava edición ha contado además, con más de dos mil participantes de cincuenta nacionalidades diferentes, como el francés Jeremy Roma o el belga Jef Teugels, quienes resultaron ser los más rápidos de la prueba con un tiempo de 4 horas 15 minutos. En la categoría femenina, lo hizo la belga Elke Timperman con 4 horas y 37 minutos seguida por la británica Suzanne Clarke con 4 horas y 45 minutos.

Antiguos rivales y amigos Alberto Contador y Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, rivales en su época de competición y amigos, acompañaron al pelotón durante todo el trayecto y cruzaron juntos la línea de meta situada junto a Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Hotel, con un apretado sprint. Los exprofesionales Pedro Horrillo y Alex Zulle tampoco quisieron perderse la conocida competición y se unieron a la mañana de ciclismo con todos los aficionados inscritos.

Las últimas ediciones, afianzadas desde 2018 en el complejo Oliva Nova, han servido para demostrar que el Resort es un lugar idóneo para acoger turismo deportivo y para dar a conocer la localidad valenciana entre el mundo ciclista. Un claro ejemplo ha sido que la organización de La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2023 eligiera a la propia ciudad de Oliva como punto final de una etapa.

XII Gran Fondo Alberto Contador The 12th edition of the cycling event was attended by more than 2,000 people and a special guest, the former cyclist Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, winner of stages in the three big races: Vuelta, Giro and Tour.

he last weekend of September is for cycling lovers a date that stands out in their calendar. After twelve editions, the cycling event that is named after the organizer - the legendary former professional cyclist Alberto Contador has become a consolidated event that attracts thousands of fans year after year.

This 2023 Gran Fondo, held on Saturday 23rd September had some new features compared to previous editions: the

race was held on a new and unique 146 kilometre route with a 2,538 metre climb; it included a timed section at the Coll de Rates (at kilometre 38), 6.6 kilometres long and with a 5.5% gradient; it eliminated the climb to the Alt del Miserat due to the toughness of the section. Moreover, the route has maintained other important climbs such as the aforementioned Coll de Rates, Sa Creueta or the Vall d’Ebo, offering impressive panoramic views to the riders.

The twelfth edition also had more than two thousand participants of fifty different nationalities, such as the French cyclist Jeremy Roma and the Belgian Jef Teugels, who were the fastest in the race with a time of 4 hours and 15 minutes. In the women’s category, the fastest was the Belgian rider, Elke Timperman with 4 hours and 37 minutes followed by the British cyclist Suzanne Clarke with 4 hours and 45 minutes.

Old rivals and friends Alberto Contador and Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, rivals in their racing days and friends, pedaled hand in hand with the peloton throughout the entire route and crossed the finish line together at the Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Hotel in a tight sprint. Former professionals Pedro Horrillo and Alex Zulle didn’t want to miss the wellknown competition either and they joined with all the registered fans.

The latest editions, held since 2018 in the Oliva Nova complex, has proven that the Resort is an ideal place to welcome sports tourism and also to raise awareness of the Valencian town among the cycling world. A clear example of this is the fact that the organizers of La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2023 chose the town of Oliva itself as the finishing point of a stage.

E

n los últimos años la ciudad limítrofe entre las provincias de Valencia y Alicante ha acogido diferentes competiciones que la han convertido en sede deportiva de la Comunidad Valenciana. De ser el escenario de la primera Youth World Cup Wing Foil en 2022 a ser final de etapa en la Vuelta Ciclista a España 2023. Los amantes del deporte ya han marcado la localidad de Oliva como un punto de interés en su mapa. Su clima –subtropical mediterráneo– con casi 300 días de sol al año, una temperatura media de 20º, inviernos suaves y veranos cálidos; y su geografía, dividida en zonas montañosas de hasta 464 metros de altura, llanas en la zona central y costas arenosas de casi diez kilómetros, hacen que este lugar sea envidiable para la práctica de cualquier deporte.

Por esos mismos motivos, la comitiva de la Vuelta a España 2023 eligió que la séptima etapa de la competición ciclista concluyera en la localidad olivense.

Un tramo que por su llanura permitió al pelotón finalizar con sprint y que el francés Geoffrey Soupe, del equipo Total Energie,s lograra la victoria con 4 horas, 56 minutos y 29 segundos.

Por su parte, el también francés Lenny Martínez, del Groupama-FDJ, se mantuvo al frente de la clasificación general individual.

La jornada empezó en Utiel, transcurrió por la N-332 en dirección a Gandía y recorrió las calles de la localidad hasta la altura de la Ronda Sur, donde los corredores tuvieron que girar a la izquierda para encarar la recta hasta la meta.

Algunos equipos eligieron alojarse en Oliva Nova tras finalizar la etapa por las magníficas instalaciones y servicios que ofrece el resort 5 estrellas: un espacio habilitado para alojar el camión-taller y zonas de trabajo exclusivas con puntos de luz y tomas de agua; una zona de garaje para almacenar bicicletas y ponerlas a punto; salas de reuniones; zonas exclusivas de fisio; contacto con un especialista deportivo durante la estancia; personalización de los menús adaptados a las exigencias nutricionales del equipo y mucho más. Los equipos Quick Step, Movistar, Arkea y Jayco se alojaron en el hotel, con zona de spa y gimnasio; mientras que el Caja Rural y el Bora lo hicieron en el residencial Las Dunas, a 150 metros de la playa.

n recent years, the city bordering between the provinces of Valencia and Alicante has hosted several competitions that have made it a sporting venue for the Valencian Community. From hosting the first Youth World Cup Wing Foil in 2022 to being the final stage in the Vuelta Ciclista a España in 2023. Sports lovers have already marked the town of Oliva as a point of interest on their map. Its climate, subtropical Mediterranean, with almost 300 days of sunshine a year, an average temperature of 20º, mild winters and warm summers; and its geography, divided into mountainous areas up to 464 metres high, flat in the central area and sandy coasts of almost ten kilometres, make this place appealing for the practice of any sport.

For the same reasons, the Tour of Spain 2023 committee chose to finish the seventh stage of the cycling competition in the town of Oliva. The flat stretch allowed the

bunch to finish with a sprint and Geoffrey Soupe, from the French team Total Energie, took the victory with 4 hours, 56 minutes and 29 seconds. Meanwhile, French cyclist Lenny Martinez from Groupama-FDJ remained at the top of the overall individual ranking.

The day started in Utiel, ran along the N-332 towards Gandía and ran through the streets of the town up to Ronda Sur, where the runners had to turn left to face the last stretch to the finish line.

Some teams chose to stay at Oliva Nova after finishing the stage because of the magnificent facilities and services offered by the 5-star resort: a space fitted out to host workshops and exclusive work areas with lighting and water intakes; a garage area to store the bikes and get them ready; private meeting rooms; physio areas for exclusive use; direct contact with a sports specialist during the stay; customizing menus to suit the team’s nutritional requirements and much more. ituado a orillas del mar Mediterráneo, el Centro Ecuestre Oliva Nova (CEON) se posiciona a la altura de los mejores circuitos internacionales y logra reunir cada año a los mejores jinetes y amazonas del mundo. Los principales eventos son el Spring MET y el Autumn MET, las competiciones de salto de obstáculos que se celebran cada año de enero a abril y de octubre a diciembre y que se han convertido en las favoritas del calendario hípico nacional e internacional por las magníficas instalaciones en las que se desarrolla y las condiciones climatológicas que lo acompañan. No obstante, también tiene la capacidad de albergar competiciones oficiales de doma clásica.

Para los amantes del deporte ecuestre, el Mediterranean Equestrian Tour es un evento de competición incomparable tanto para los caballos como para los jinetes y sus familias. Las instalaciones no solo ofrecen un calendario deportivo muy completo, sino que

además cuentan con todas las comodidades necesarias para disfrutar de una agradable estancia: restaurantes a pie de pista como Ocean’s y Central Aura Lounge, un village comercial con una gran variedad de tiendas exclusivas, etc.

Last but not least, it also has the capacity to host official dressage competitions.

For equestrian sport lovers, the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour is an event like no other for horses, riders and their families. E

mpezó su trayectoria profesional como esquiador y logró deslizarse por las montañas más increíbles del mundo. Austria, Suiza, Francia, Italia, Argentina, Chile o Colorado, son algunos de los lugares que vieron al gallego en plena acción. Años después, una lesión en la rodilla le llevó a dejar el esquí, pero las jugadas de Severiano Ballesteros le abrieron los ojos hacia un nuevo mundo: el golf. «Empecé a jugar al golf viendo a Seve. Había dejado de esquiar porque tenía un problema en la rodilla izquierda y necesitaba encontrar otro deporte en el que pudiera seguir compitiendo. He sido muy competitivo siempre», confiesa Beamonte.

Sus primeros puts se llevaron a cabo en el Real Club Puerta de Hierro de Madrid, un lugar que le aportó mucho conocimiento y le dio la oportunidad de conocer en primera persona a Severiano Ballesteros. Poco a poco este joven, amante del deporte, se convirtió en un jugador con mucho potencial que llegó incluso a captar la atención de su ídolo en un Pro-Am en el Open de España. «Recuerdo con un cariño especial cuando de niño fui el caddie master de Seve los días previos al Open de Madrid, pero sobre todo, recuerdo cuando unos años después jugué un Pro-Am en el Open de España gracias a la madre de un amigo.

Cuando me llamó para decirme que había una plaza disponible en la prueba de la 13:30 en el circuito europeo del mes de octubre, sabía que jugaría con alguien importante, lo que no me imaginé es que sería con el propio Severiano Ballesteros.

Lo recuerdo con mucha ilusión, había más de 500 personas en el tee del uno,

me publicaron en un periódico local de Barcelona y Seve me hizo una mención especial en el reparto de premios».

El que empezó como aficionado con tan solo 16 años, acabó siendo un golfista profesional con una larga trayectoria por delante. Primero dirigió el Club de Golf de Guadalmina (Málaga), luego se convirtió en el comentarista más escuchado del circuito americano y ahora, compagina sus dotes televisivas con su propia escuela de golf. «He pasado por diferentes vicisitudes. Cuando volví a Madrid me encontré con que en la televisión tenía mucho tiempo libre, así que pensé en ser profesor y enseñar todo lo que sé. Después de desempeñar esta función en diferentes clubs, decidí montar mi propia escuela y desarrollar un proyecto que más tarde presenté a Decathlon, para quien trabajo actualmente».

Hoy en día, Beamonte trabaja para esta gran superficie dedicada a la venta y distribución de material deportivo con un método de entrenamiento totalmente personalizado y la tecnología Foresight Sport. El experto, quien vio una oportunidad de negocio con el simulador infrautilizado del Decathlon Golf de al lado de su casa, es ahora un profesor de renombre que imparte también cursos en otros clubs y desde hace tres años en el Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort.

Este verano 2023, el golfista ha impartido 28 horas de clase y ha llevado a cabo clinics gratuitos dentro del resort para jugadores de todos los niveles. Su objetivo a largo plazo es seguir compartiendo todos sus conocimientos y seguir formando parte de la gran familia de Oliva Nova.

H

e began his professional career as a skier and managed to slide down the most incredible mountains in the world. Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Argentina, Chile and Colorado are some of the places that saw the Galicia born skier in action.

Years later, a knee injury led him to give up skiing, but Severiano Ballesteros’s plays opened his eyes to a new world: golf. “I started playing golf watching Seve. I gave up skiing because I had a problem with my left knee and I needed to find another sport in which I could compete. I have always been very competitive,” confesses Beamonte.

His first puts took place at the Real Club Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, a place that provided him with a pool of knowledge and gave him the opportunity to meet Severiano Ballesteros first hand.

Nací en Barqueiro, pasé como esquiador, luego fui profesional del golf y ahora soy un hombre de la comunicación. He sido muchas personas, pero sobre todo, soy un trabajador incansable, amigo de mis amigos y me gusta tratar bien a la gente. ¿Playa o montaña?

Montaña siempre. No es por echar de menos a Oliva Nova, pero es que yo soy esquiador. Para mí Oliva Nova es un sitio especial con una de las mejores playas. Yo la equiparo a la Barrosa de Cádiz y a la Lanzada de mi tierra, Galicia. Para mí son las tres mejores playas de España que conozco.

«Vine por primera vez a Oliva Nova hace 30 años.

Quedé completamente anonadado con el complejo y con el campo, todavía en construcción. Nowadays, Beamonte works for this large department store that sells and distributes sports equipment with a totally customized training method and Foresight Sport technology.

The expert, who saw a business opportunity with the underused simulator at the Decathlon Golf next door to his home, is now a renowned teacher who also gives courses at other clubs and for the last three years he has been a teacher at the Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort.

This summer 2023, the golfer has taught 28 hours of classes and has run free clinics within the resort for players of all levels. His long-term goal is to continue sharing all his knowledge and to be part of the great Oliva Nova family. Álvaro Beamonte in depth “I first came to Oliva Nova 30 years ago. I was completely overwhelmed by the complex and the course, which was still under construction. It seemed to me that it would have a great future.

Who is Álvaro Beamonte?

I would mainly say that I am Galician, living in Madrid. I was born in

Barqueiro, I spent some time as a skier, then I was a golf professional and now I am a showman. I have been many things, but above all, I am a tireless worker, a friend of my friends and I like to treat people well.

Beach or mountains?

Mountains always. Not to miss Oliva Nova, but I am a skier. For me Oliva Nova is a special place with one of the best beaches. I compare it to La Barrosa in Cadiz and La Lanzada in my homeland, Galicia. For me they are the three best beaches in Spain that I know of.

What is your life philosophy?

To do no harm to anyone, to teach and share everything I know, to be polite, to be a tireless worker and to be a friend of my friends.

What attracts you most to Oliva Nova?

It’s a place where you get off the road, you go in, and you don’t want to leave. Oliva Nova has made a real estate, sports, leisure and tourism development that encompasses all needs. It has a beach, horse riding, golf, tennis, padel tennis... and all the services in the world. Whenever I come here, it’s hard for me to leave.

iajar a la auténtica Italia es muy fácil cuando saboreas los platos de esta trattoria, elaborados según las técnicas culinarias más ancestrales y una materia prima característica del epicentro del mar Mediterráneo. ¿Desde cuándo es sumiller?

Desde que cumplí los 16 años he estado realizando cursos relacionados con el mundo del vino y la cata, y en 2021, di un paso y estudié el máster de Sumillería Profesional. Creo que haber encontrado una pasión como esta a una edad temprana me ha llevado a seguir aprendiendo sobre este mundo tan bonito y, a la vez, tan infinito.

Joven pero con una larga trayectoria…

Empecé a tener contacto con el mundo vinícola desde joven porque mi padre estaba involucrado en ferias gastronómicas como la Semana Verde de Silleda, el Xantar en Ourense o el Fórum Gastronómico de Coruña. Me interesaba mucho este mundo, así que combiné mis estudios en el instituto con cursos especializados que me dieron la oportunidad de trabajar en varios restaurantes de referencia como sumiller en mi tierra, Galicia. Empecé a trabajar en Abastos 2.0, donde pude conocer a

fondo el producto gallego con grandes profesionales a mi lado, y más adelante di el salto al mundo de la alta gastronomía con restaurantes estrella michelin como Auga e Sal y Casa Marcelo en Santiago de Compostela, y Ambivium en Valladolid.

Y en Oliva Nova, ¿cuándo recala?

Buscaba un cambio en el tipo de sector, y después de varias conversaciones y de visitar el lugar, supe que Oliva Nova era perfecto por las posibilidades que me ofrecía. Llevo trabajando aquí desde abril de 2023. Considero que fue un momento ideal para comenzar porque me dió tiempo suficiente para asentarme y organizar el trabajo antes de la llegada del verano, así como planear y diseñar la apertura del restaurante Wine&Tapas y el resto de puntos de venta que me competen como sumiller. He tenido mucho apoyo y gracias a esto mi periodo de adaptación ha sido mucho más sencillo. ¿Cómo fueron los inicios en Oliva?

Mis inicios en Oliva Nova han tenido dos caras. Por un lado, he tenido que asumir el reto de llegar a un sitio nuevo con muchos puntos de venta con diferentes perfiles. Y por otro, he tenido que trabajar duro para adaptar la oferta a las distintas temporadas del resort: el verano, con el turismo vacacional, y el invierno con turismo deportivo.

Ahora me encuentro en un momento muy gratificante, creo que es el principio de una gran y larga trayectoria.

evoted the world of wine for as long as he can remember, Yago Martínez (Orense, 1995) has been widening his knowledge and experience to the point of becoming the head sommelier at the Oliva Nova resort. After working in some of the leading restaurants on the hotel and catering scene, the Galician sommelier has rediscovered his passion and the Mediterranean traditions of local grapes, and now creates unforgettable tasting experiences.

How long have you been a sommelier?

Since I was 16 years old, I have been taking courses related to the wine and tasting world, and in 2021, I took a step forward and studied the Master’s Degree in Professional Sommelier. I think that having found a passion like this at an early age has led me to continue learning about this beautiful and infinite world.

Young but with an extensive career…

I started having contact with the wine world at a young age because my father was involved in gastronomic fairs such as the Semana Verde in Silleda, the Xantar in Ourense or the Fórum Gastronómico in Coruña. I was very interested in this world, so I combined my studies at high school with specialized courses that gave me the opportunity to work in several leading restaurants as a sommelier in my homeland, Galicia. I started working at Abastos 2.0, where I got an in-depth knowledge of the Galician products with great professionals by my side, and later I made the leap to the world of haute cuisine with Michelin-starred restaurants such as Auga e Sal and Casa Marcelo in Santiago de Compostela, and Ambivium in Valladolid.

And when did you show up in Oliva Nova?

I was looking for a change in the type of industry, and after several conversations and visits, I knew that Oliva Nova was perfect because of the opportunity it offered me. I have been working here since April 2023.

I think it was an ideal time to start because it gave me enough time to settle in and organize the work before the summer arrival, as well as to plan and design the opening of the Wine&Tapas restaurant and the rest of the outlets that I am responsible for as a sommelier. I have had a lot of support and thanks to this my period of adaptation has been much easier.

Dada esa variedad de puntos y momentos del año, ¿qué tipo de vinos propone en los diferentes restaurantes?

Creo que en cada uno debemos hacer una propuesta adecuada a la oferta gastronómica, lugar y época del año en la que nos encontramos. Sólo de esta manera podemos satisfacer las necesidades de cada comensal y adecuarlas a lo que nosotros queremos ofrecer. Hay mucho trabajo detrás de la elección de cada vino, Son los vinos, junto a los sólidos y el ambiente, los responsables de crear una experiencia inolvidable.

Quiere decir que su carta es dinámica. ¿Ofrecen diferentes vinos dependiendo de la temporada, de la carta, etc?

completa en torno a la gastronomía. El hecho de ser un resort tan importante, convierte a nuestra selección de vinos en un escaparate para los pequeños productores y bodegas. Sin ir más lejos, en Saforn, uno de los restaurantes que da voz a la gastronomía más pura de Oliva con su especialidad de cocas y otros platos locales, solamente trabajamos con vino de la comarca para realzar todavía más lo que Valencia significa para nosotros. El vino es la forma perfecta de combinar aromas, texturas, sensaciones y sentimientos en una experiencia gastronómica. ¿Con qué bodegas suelen trabajar?

Todas las bodegas con las que trabajamos tienen un denominador común, y es el cuidado por su trabajo. Son bodegas y bodegueros que de verdad aman lo que hacen y eso, sin ninguna duda, se ve reflejado en los resultados.

Por otro lado, el empleo de variedades autóctonas es otra característica que tenemos en cuenta. Ninguna variedad expresa mejor el terroir de cada lugar que las propias de la región. ¿Ha ido cambiando y evolucionando la oferta de vinos desde que empezó en Oliva Nova?

La verdad es que sí, ese era y es mi propósito aquí. Junto con el resto del equipo, estamos haciendo cambios en las bodegas de los diferentes restaurantes del Resort que están funcionando muy bien. La gente está respondiendo de manera positiva a las nuevas cartas.

incorporando un local especializado como Wine&Tapas, suponemos que le motivará…

Me parece tan acertado como necesario. Es un lugar diferente a todos los existentes en el resort. También es un tipo de local que cada vez se demanda más, en el que el vino es el protagonista. La oferta que tenemos en Wine&Tapas es un largo recorrido por la geografía española y sus tesoros vinícolas. ¿Qué acogida está teniendo este local?

Lo cierto es que la acogida de Wine & Tapas es buena. Somos capaces de contentar al comensal que quiere cenar unas tapas ligeras, pero de nivel, y acompañarlas de un buen vino. Cada vez creo que este estilo de gastronomía se lleva más y la empresa ha sabido leer esa necesidad para ofrecer una solución de calibre. ¿Qué se puede encontrar allí?

Producto, producto y producto. Trabajamos con diferentes tipos de alimentos, pero buscando siempre la máxima calidad en cada uno de ellos.

En Wine&Tapas no le damos protagonismo a la elaboración, sino al producto natural. En su interior se puede encontrar gran variedad de quesos de diferentes tipos y procedencias, corte de jamón en directo de diferentes razas y calidades, así como también una muy buena selección de embutidos de nivel. Además, también se priorizan las conservas gourmet, algo a lo que quizás no estemos tan acostum-

brados, pero que tienen muchísimo potencial, procedentes de tres casas diferentes: una local, con enlatados de producto de la tierra, que representa a la perfección la zona donde nos encontramos; otra de conservas a la brasa; y otra de Santoña, donde encontraremos desde sus famosas anchoas hasta flanes de una calidad más que superior.

Dentro de ese universo, ¿cuál sería el vino estrella de Wine&Tapas?

Una pregunta difícil. Cada vino tiene su historia y su mérito, pero si tuviera que decantarme por uno sería el Albamar Albino, un blanc de noirs de Caíño tinto. Es un vino blanco elaborado a partir de uva tinta por la bodega Albamar que, aunque esté fuera de la D.O. Rías Baixas, iguala o supera los estándares esperados. El Caíño es una variedad con pocas cepas en la D.O. Rías Baixas, sobre el 1% de la plantación. En este caso, es viñedo viejo situado en la ladera de la desembocadura del río Umia, con suelos mayormente arcillosos. Conseguir elaborar un vino de estas características es merecedor de ser, para mi, la estrella del local. ¿Y cuál sería su tip como experto?

Si no tenemos conocimientos acerca de vinos y maridajes, mi consejo es que nos fijemos en la gastronomía autóctona de cada lugar. Un txakolí con un marmitako o un albariño con marisco son dos ejemplos claros de lo que puede ser un buen maridaje si nos fijamos en la gastronomía autóctona.

How was it like at the beginning in Oliva?

There were two sides of my beginnings in Oliva. On the one hand, I took up the challenge of arriving at a new place with many points of sale with different profiles. On the other hand, I had to work hard to adapt our product to the different seasons of the resort: summer, with holiday tourism, and winter with sports tourism. Now I find myself in a very gratifying moment, I think it is the beginning of a great and long career.

Which wineries do you usually work with?

All the wineries we work with have a thing in common and that is the care they take in their work. They are wineries and winemakers who really love what they do, and this is undoubtedly reflected in the results.

On the other hand, the use of local varieties is another feature that we take into account. No variety expresses the terroir of each place better than the region’s own varieties.

Given this variety of locations and times of the year, what kind of wines do you propose in the restaurants?

I believe that in each one we must make a proposal that is appropriate to the gastronomic offer, the place, and the time of year in which we find ourselves. Only this way we can satisfy the needs of each guest and adapt them to what we want to offer.

There is a lot of work behind each wine decision. It is the wines, together with the food and the atmosphere, that are responsible for creating an unforgettable experience.

Has the wine selection changed and evolved since you started at Oliva Nova?

Yes, that was and is my purpose here.

Together with the rest of the team, we are making changes in the restaurants wine offer within the Resort and they are working very well. People are responding positively to the new menus.

Do you mean you offer an organic menu? Do you offer different wines depending on the season, the menu, etc.?

Of course, only in this way we can achieve a complete gastronomic experience. The fact that it is such an important resort makes our wine selection a showcase for small producers and wineries. For example, at Saforn, one of the restaurants that gives voice to the purest gastronomy of Oliva with its specialty of cocas and other local dishes, we only work with local wine to emphasize even more what Valencia means to us. Wine is the perfect way to combine aromas, textures, sensations and feelings in a gastronomic experience.

Oliva Nova opts for the wine by incorporating a specialized establishment such as Wine&Tapas, we suppose that it will motivate...

It seems to me both right and necessary. It is a place unlike any other in the resort. It is also a type of place that is increasingly in demand, where wine takes center stage. The curated selection we offer in Wine&Tapas is a long journey through the Spanish geography and its wine treasures.

How has the restaurant been received?

The truth is that Wine&Tapas has been well received. We are able to satisfy guests who wants to dine on light but high-quality tapas and indulge them with a good wine. I believe that this style of cuisine has become trendier and the company has spotted this need by offering an avant-garde approach.

What can be found there?

Product, product and product. We work with different types of food, but always seeking the highest quality in

each of them. At Wine&Tapas we do not focus on the preparation, but on the natural product. We offer a wide variety of cheeses of different kinds and origins, live cutting of ham from different breeds and qualities, as well as a very good selection of highquality sausages. Moreover, priority is also given to gourmet preserves, something we may not be so used to, but has a lot of potential from three different companies: one local, with canned local products, which perfectly portray the area where we are; another specialized in grilled preserves; and the last one from Santoña, where we can find every sort of product ranging from its famous anchovies to crème caramel of premium quality.

Within this universe, what would be the star wine of Wine&Tapas?

A difficult question. Each wine has its own story and merit, but if I had to go for one it would be Albamar Albino, a red Caíño blanc de noirs. It is a white wine made from red grapes by the Albamar winery that, although it is outside the Rías Baixas D.O., meets or exceeds the expected standards.

Caíño is a variety with few vines in the D.O. Rías Baixas, about 1% of the plantation. In this case, it is an old vineyard located on the slopes at the mouth of the Umia River, with mostly clay soils. To be able to produce a wine with these features under those conditions is worthy of being, for me, the star of the place.

And what would be your tip as an expert?

If one has no knowledge of wines and food pairings, my advice is to look at the local gastronomy of each place. A txakolí with a marmitako or an albariño with seafood are two clear examples of what can be a good pairing if we look at the local gastronomy.

Buñuelos de bacalao

Una receta de origen humilde y sabor exquisito

rujientes, esponjosos y con un sabor delicioso. Los buñuelos de bacalao, catalogados por la Real Academia Española como «fruta de sartén», se han convertido en una receta típica de la gastronomía española que sirve tanto para impresionar al comensal a modo de entrante, como de plato principal. Hay tantas variaciones como chefs existen en el mundo, pero en cualquier caso, su resultado es una sensación para el paladar que enamora, incluso a los que no suelen comer pescado.

Sus orígenes son inciertos y se desconoce si su procedencia viene de Portugal, nuestro país vecino, ancestralmente dedicado a la pesca en el Gran Sol y Terranova, donde se localizan los bancos de bacalaos más importantes del Atlántico. Lo que está claro, es que esta receta forma parte del libro portugués Arte do Cozinheiro e do Copeiro, que publicó el Visconde de Vilarinho de S. Romão en el año 1841 bajo el nombre de Pastéis de cabalhau o Bolinhos de bacalhau. Con los años, esta receta tan sencilla y sabrosa se ha ido extendiendo por el resto de territorios llegando a ser, en la actualidad, típica en toda España y considerada como tradicional de Semana Santa, más concretamente en los días de cuaresma, por ser una alternativa a la carne, apta para todos los gustos.

Esta materia prima, tan abundante también en el Golfo de Vizcaya, se convirtió en un ingrediente perfecto para muchas recetas gracias a ser asequible y duradera –antiguamente el bacalao era el único pescado que se conservaba muy bien en seco y en salazón sin perder las cualidades–. Desde el típico esgarraet valenciano hasta la ensalada malagueña, de la esqueixada al cordobés bacalao con naranja o al pil-pil, el bacalao se ha ido incorporando a muchos y diferentes recetarios mediante cocinados singulares.

En la actualidad, es muy común ver y consumir buñuelos de bacalao en restaurantes de toda España. Los chefs suelen acompañar esta creación con salsas diversas que aportan un extra de sabor y complementan muy bien con el gusto profundo del bacalao. Las más habituales son el all i oli o la mahonesa, la salsa romesco, o la de pimientos del piquillo, por la que se decanta el restaurante gastronómico Aura, situado en La Plaza Oliva Nova.

Cod fritters A recipe with humble origins and exquisite flavor

runchy, fluffy and with a delicious flavor. Cod fritters, classified by the Royal Spanish Academy as “pan fruit”, have become a typical recipe in the Spanish cuisine that can be used to impress guests both a starter and as a main course. There are as many variations as there are chefs in the world, but in any case, the result is a sensation for the palate, even for those who do not usually eat fish.

Its origins are uncertain, and it is not known if it comes from Portugal, our neighboring country, at one time dedicated to fishing in the Gran Sol and Terranova, where the most important cod shoals in the Atlantic are located. What is clear is that this recipe is part of the Portuguese book Arte do Cozinheiro e do Copeiro, published by Visconde de Vilarinho de S. Romão in 1841 under the name Pastéis de cabalhau or Bolinhos de bacalhau. Over the years, this simple and tasty recipe has spread throughout the rest of the country and now is typical throughout Spain and is considered a traditional Easter recipe, particularly during the days of Lent, as it is an alternative to meat, suitable for all tastes.

This raw material, so abundant also in the Bay of Biscay, became a perfect ingredient for many recipes thanks to its affordability and durability. In the past, cod was the only fish that could be preserved very well in dry and salted conditions without losing its qualities. From the typical Valencian esgarraet to the salad from Malaga, from esqueixada to the Cordovan cod with orange or pil-pil, cod has been incorporated into many different recipes through unique dishes.

Nowadays, it is very common to see and eat cod fritters in restaurants all over Spain. Chefs usually pair this creation with various sauces that add extra flavor and intensify the deep flavor of the cod very well. The most common sauces are all i oli or mayonnaise, romesco sauce, or piquillo pepper sauce, which is the sauce chosen by the fine dining restaurant Aura, located in Plaza Oliva Nova.

¿Cuándo y cómo empezaste a trabajar en Oliva Nova?

En el año 2003 para el departamento de ventas del Grupo CHG. Vivía en Londres y mis funciones eran comercializar viviendas en Oliva Nova y Dénia.

Años más tarde, a principios de 2006, me trasladé a vivir a España y comencé a trabajar en el departamento de Marketing como responsable. En el año 2009 fue cuando tomé la gerencia de Oliva Nova Wellness Spa.

When and how did you start working at Oliva Nova?

In 2003 I worked in the sales department for CHG Group. I was living in London and my duties were to market properties in Oliva Nova and Denia. Years later, at the beginning of 2006, I moved to Spain and started working heading the marketing department. In 2009 I took over the management of Oliva Nova Wellness Spa.

En Oliva Nova Wellness Spa trabajamos un equipo muy variado para ofrecer el mejor de los servicios: tres personas en atención al cliente y recepción, tres terapeutas y un fisio, un osteópata, una esteticista y un quiromasajista. En la parte fitness, tenemos una personal trainer, y en la gestión diaria una persona especializada en diseño y marketing. Y yo, como encargada. ¿Qué podemos encontrar ahora mismo si visitamos Oliva Nova Wellness Spa? Oliva Nova Wellness Spa tiene más de 900 metros cuadrados. Por un lado, la parte del circuito spa ofrece aguas a

una temperatura por encima de los 33 grados, dos cascadas, un cuello de cisne y un jacuzzi. Para conseguir los beneficios de haber elevado la temperatura es fundamental llevar a cabo un correcto proceso de enfriamiento posterior, ya sea en frío seco, frío mojado o frío húmedo. Aquí es donde se desarrolla la “fase de reacción fría” que produce efecto tonificador, reduce los dolores y relaja los músculos. Por último, el circuito termina con una “fase de relax” en la que el cuerpo experimentará el estado de relajación y la regeneración psicofísica. ¿Cómo beneficia este circuito a la salud de las personas?

Sin duda los masajes relajantes y terapeúticos, aunque cada vez hay más demanda de servicios de belleza como son los tratamientos faciales, manicuras y pedicuras.

Oliva Nova es un Resort que visitan cientos de deportistas al año, ¿hay tratamientos específicos para ellos? ¿Cuáles?

Hacemos muchos masajes deportivos y terapéuticos. Por ejemplo, muchos jinetes que vienen a competir en el Mediterranean Equestrian Tour tienen la zona lumbar muy cargada por el hecho de montar durante horas. Nuestro osteópata lleva muchos años con nosotros y sabe mejor que nadie cómo tratar estas dolencias.

¿Está previsto ampliar las instalaciones del spa a medio-largo plazo? ¿Y de incorporar nuevos servicios o mejoras?

Cada año tratamos de introducir novedades en todas las áreas de Oliva Nova Wellness Spa, ya sea en el circuito, en tratamientos o en la sala fitness. We do a lot of sports and therapeutic massages. For example, many riders who come to compete in the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour have a very strained lower back because of riding for hours on end. Our osteopath

has been with us for many years and knows better than anyone how to treat this soreness.

Are there any plans to expand the spa facilities in the medium to long term and to add new services or improvements?

Every year we try to introduce new features in all areas of Oliva Nova Wellness Spa, whether in the circuit, in treatments or in the fitness room. Recently we have made improvements to the relaxation room which have been very well received by our clients.

How can I access the wellness center facilities?

Everyone can access the facilities; all you need to do is contact the team and make a reservation in advance.

What about the fitness area?

We are open to the public all year round, from Monday to Sunday.

Although the Middle East has been the region whose culture has thrived the most the art of this weaving, it is in the nomadic people of Central Asia where its ancestral technique was born, with weavings from herds of goats and sheep, and with the practical objective of protecting human beings from the adverse climatic conditions in that part of the world.

Senda local Del Castell a la Mar ruta ecoturística

sta ruta de casi 4 kilómetros de distancia y dificultad baja es el plan perfecto para recorrerla en familia.

El trayecto empieza a los pies del Castillo de Santa Anna y desciende por un sendero hasta la costa mediterránea. Se puede seguir ese orden o bien hacer la ruta en sentido contrario –ascendente– para concluir observando unas hermosas vistas panorámicas: del centro histórico de Oliva, del mar, del parque natural de la Marjal Pego-Oliva y de otros parajes cercanos.

Iniciamos la ruta en el castillo, una fortaleza del siglo XVI, catalogada como Bien de Interés Cultural y a la que se puede acceder fácilmente desde el final de la calle Antonio Maura, junto al Colegio CEIP Santa Anna de Oliva. El castillo permaneció en servicio durante el siglo XVII y sus funciones se limitaron a la vigilancia de la costa y la morería local que se extendía en sus proximidades. El nombre que posee se le otorgó en memoria de una antigua ermita dedicada a Santa Anna, ubicada en esa misma colina.

his route, almost 4 kilometres long and of low difficulty, is the perfect plan for the whole family.

The route starts at the foot of Santa Anna Castle and descends along a path to the Mediterranean coast.

You can follow this order or take the route in the opposite direction - ascending - to finish with beautiful panoramic views: of the historic centre of Oliva, the sea, the Marjal Pego-Oliva natural park and other nearby spots.

We start the route at the castle, a 16th century fortress, listed as a cultural heritage asset and easily accessible from the end of Antonio Maura Street, next to the CEIP Santa Anna school in Oliva. The castle remained in service during the 17th century and its functions were limited to the surveillance of the coast and the Moorish quarter that extended in its vicinity. Its name was given in memory of an ancient chapel devoted to Santa Anna, and located on the same hill.

Aquí podemos hacer una pequeña parada para disfrutar de los tres diferentes itinerarios turísticos de época medieval que ofrece Oliva: un recorrido por la Villa Condal, que transcurre por entre casonas nobiliarias de arquitectura rústica y elegante; el Raval morisco, compuesto por callejuelas empinadas, herencia de sus antiguos moradores; y el barrio Gerrería-Pinet, que alberga ermitas y plazas con mucha historia.

Volvemos a la senda para avanzar en paralelo por el Vall de les Fonts y el Vall de Burguera. En este tramo, por su cercanía al mar, se puede disfrutar de numerosas especies de flora, desde los tréboles acuáticos a las malvas y eucaliptos, así como a una fauna diversa compuesta de ranas, tortugas o aves migratorias como la garza.

Situados en el final de la ruta encontramos a 150 metros, a la derecha, el mar Mediterráneo y una magnífica playa con dunas protegidas, de gran valor natural por su ecosistema y vegetación característica.

El sendero, de 4 kilómetros de distancia, transcurre por la parte alta de Oliva, el casco antiguo de la localidad y finaliza a 150 metros de una de las playas dunares protegidas.

The path, 4 kilometers long, runs through the upper part of Oliva, the old quarter of the town and ends 150 meters from one of the protected sand dune beaches.

As you walk along the path, you will enjoy a natural environment made up of medicinal and aromatic plants, as well as native shrubs and trees, from the Mediterranean white pine to the kermes oak and cypress. We enter the urban section and cross the town through its old quarter.

Here we can make a short break to enjoy the three different tourist itineraries from the medieval period that Oliva offers: a route through the Villa Condal, which runs through noble mansions of rustic and elegant architecture; the Moorish Raval, made up of steep narrow streets, a legacy of its former dwellers; and the Gerrería-Pinet neighbourhood, which is home to chapels and squares with a lot of history.

We return to the path to move forward in parallel through the Vall de les Fonts and the Vall de Burguera. In this section, due to its proximity to the sea, you can enjoy a wide variety of floral species, from water clovers to mallows and eucalyptus, as well as a diverse fauna made up of frogs, turtles and migratory birds such as herons.

At the end of the route, 150 metres further on, on the right, we find the Mediterranean Sea and a magnificent beach with protected dunes, of great natural value due to its ecosystem and vegetation.

ace poco más de dos años, un 12 de mayo de 2021, los Reyes Felipe VI y Letizia visitaron a Francisco Brines en su casa, en Elca, una partida situada en el interior del término de Oliva, el lugar donde pasó su infancia y donde ya de adolescente soñaba en sus versos con una vejez rodeada de su magnífica biblioteca, sentado junto a la ventana desde la que se divisa un mar de naranjos verde, una delgada línea de mar azul y, recortado sobre el horizonte, el Montgó como testigo inspirador, mudo e inalterable.

Aquella luminosa mañana, Francisco Brines recibió el Premio Cervantes a toda una obra enmarcada en la poesía íntima, un digno sucesor de Luis Cernuda. Moría apenas unos días después de que los Reyes le entregaran en su hermoso caserón el galardón más importante de las letras hispanas. El colofón a una carrera literaria que ya le había hecho merecedor de un sillón en la Real Academia Española, un

ust over two years ago, on the 12th May 2021, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited Francisco Brines at his home in Elca, a hamlet located within the town of Oliva. This is the place where he spent his childhood and where, as a teenager, he dreamt in his verses of being old age surrounded by his magnificent library, sitting by the window from which one can see a sea of green orange trees, a thin line of blue sea and, outlined on the horizon, the Montgó as an inspiring, mute and unalterable witness.

That bright morning, Francisco Brines was awarded the Cervantes Prize for his poetic work that fits within intimate poetry, a worthy successor to Luis Cernuda.

He died just a few days after the King and Queen of Spain had rewarded him with the most important award in Hispanic literature in their beautiful mansion.

The pinnacle of a literary career that had already earned him a seat in the Spanish Royal Academy, an Honorary Ph.D. from the University of Valencia and the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, among other welldeserved awards.

rqueólogo, comisario de varias exposiciones temáticas, director del Museo Arqueológico de Dénia entre 1987 y 2022, y amante del mundo del arte. Josep Antoni Gisbert Santonja (Oliva, 1959) es el responsable de que a día de hoy se conozcan a fondo los orígenes de la ciudad donde nació el Grupo CHG, un territorio que, en tiempos de Dianium, fue rico en olivos y viñas al lado del mar, con una economía que giraba en torno a la producción y distribución de vino y aceite, materias primas que llegaron incluso al Foro Imperial de Roma hace dosmil años. Las ánforas halladas así lo atestiguan.

«Cuando estás cuarenta años haciendo trabajo de investigación te das cuenta de que ha valido la pena el esfuerzo. La arqueología ha dado una serie de datos históricos relevantes, que no habían sido capaces de descubrirse con los documentos u otras fuentes», confiesa el arqueólogo. De hecho, el trabajo y profesionalidad de este experto captó la atención de Siegfried Borho, fundador del Grupo empresarial CHG, cuando Gisbert recién se había instalado en Dénia en el año 1982 para liderar las primeras investigaciones arqueológicas de la localidad.

El propio Josep Antoni Gisbert confiesa que él fue un poco como «el terror de los constructores» porque paralizó por completo muchas obras para poder obtener los magníficos registros que han hecho que Dénia, a día de hoy, como ninguna otra ciudad en Al Andalus, tenga la oportunidad de presentar una secuencia productiva de cerámicas de lujo y comunes de principios del siglo XI y hasta quince centros alfareros repartidos por las comarcas de la Marina Alta y La Safor.

Josep Antoni Gisbert Santonja (Oliva, 1959) is responsible for the fact that today the origins of the city, where the CHG Group was born, are well known, a territory that, in Dianium times, was rich in olive trees and vineyards by the sea, with an economy that revolved around the production and distribution of wine and oil, raw materials that

even reached the Imperial Forum in Rome 2,000 years ago. The amphorae found bear witness to this.

"When you spend forty years doing research work, you realize that it has been worth the effort.

The archaeologist confessed that Archaeology has yielded a series of relevant historical facts, which had not been able to be discovered with documents or other type of resources".

In fact, the work and professionalism of this expert caught the attention of Siegfried Borho, founder of the CHG business group, when Gisbert had just settled in Dénia in 1982 to lead the first archaeological research in the town.

"The revival of the history and archaeology of Dénia made Siegried Borho often interested and invited me up to four times to give lectures on these topics through the Rotary Club in the 80s.

Despite the fact that during these years, and in particular since 1987, a strict urban archaeology plan had been put into practice, which rejected any affection to the subsoil that did not previously pass through an archaeological intervention, we maintained good synergies with Siegfried Borho. Thanks to this praxis, today we have an in-depth knowledge of Roman and Andalusian Dénia”.

Josep Antoni Gisbert himself confesses that he was a bit like "the terror of the builders" because he completely stopped many works in order to obtain the magnificent records which not only made Dénia, up until now, like no other city in Al Andalus, but also provided the opportunity to exhibit a productive sequence of luxury and common pottery from the beginning of the 11th century and up to fifteen pottery centres spread throughout the regions of La Marina Alta and La Safor.

UN PASEO POR EL PASADO DE OLIVA DE LA MANO DE JOSEP ANTONI GISBERT

E

l pasado de Oliva es rico en arqueología y en historia, incluyendo algunas etapas de esplendor. Empieza con los neandertales y termina con el genio del poeta Francisco Brines, quien ha transmitido el latir de la oliva y la naranja en sus últimos momentos de riqueza agrícola.

40.000 A.C. La arqueología de Oliva empieza en el 40.000 antes de Cristo en la Cova Foradà, un yacimiento situado en el Racó de Gisbert, junto a la marjal, que presenta vestigios humanos y materiales de los primeros neandertales.

EDAD MEDIA De la Edad Media destacamos el florecimiento económico del Condado de Oliva y el rico patrimonio monumental que, por desgracia, se perdió durante el siglo XX. Entre otros, destaca el Palau de los Centelles, un referente mundial por su arte renacentista y decoración de las primeras décadas del siglo XVI. Serafí de Centelles, tercer conde de Oliva y una persona esencial tanto en la política valenciana como en la nobleza de la época de Carlos V, fue el encargado de introducir aquel estilo desde Italia.

1699 - 1781 Otro referente del pasado de Oliva fue Gregorio Mayans y Siscar, uno de los mayores representantes de la Ilustración española y europea. Durante su vida activa, fue bibliotecario del rey Felipe V y catedrático de la Universidad de Valencia. 1812 Gabriel Ciscar y Ciscar es otro de los máximos ilustrados desde la perspectiva marítima y política.

Destaca también por ser uno de los ponentes en la redacción de la Constitución de Cádiz de 1812, y por escribir una serie de manuales que sirvieron durante casi una centuria en la formación de marineros.

A walk through the past of Oliva led by the hand of Josep Antoni Gisbert AÑOS 20 En los años 20 del siglo pasado, se descubre la Necrópolis del Castellar, con una magnífica colección de objetos ibéricos. Actualmente se exponen en el Museo Arqueológico de Barcelona y en el Museo de los Padres Franciscanos de Ontinyent.

AÑOS 30 Una década después, gracias a las excavaciones que se llevaron a cabo con motivo de la construcción de la carretera de Oliva a Pego, la ciudad de Oliva despunta gracias a su cerámica, una de las más preciadas del mundo ibérico. Su importancia la lleva a protagonizar un vaso de los guerreros de Oliva en la portada de la Guía del Museo Arqueológico de Barcelona.

1975 - 1976 Durante estos años, una serie de intervenciones de recuperación en la localidad olivense propician el hallazgo de una serie de ánforas romanas que dan lugar a conocer, por primera vez, un centro alfarero de época romana, en torno al siglo I. Este hecho da una visión más amplia de la economía de la zona y se complementa con otras investigaciones alrededor de las alfarerías de la comarca de la Marina Alta y la Safor que demuestran que el vino y el aceite fueron las características esenciales de la ciudad.

SIGLO XX En el siglo XX destaca el poeta Francisco Brines, reconocido con distinciones como el Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas (1999), el Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana (2010) o el Miguel de Cervantes (2020). Su poesía está absolutamente arraigada en el paisaje, en el olivo y la naranja, y transmite el aroma, el olor y hasta el aliento a cítrico, tan característico de la zona.

It begins with the Neanderthals and ends with the genius of the poet Francisco Brines, who has passed on the beat of the olive and the orange in its last moments of agricultural wealth.

The archaeology of Oliva begins in 40000 b.C., in the Cova Foradà, a site located in the Racó de Gisbert, next to the marshland, which holds remains and materials from the first Neanderthals.

During these years, a series of recovery operations in the town of Oliva led to the discovery of a series of Roman amphorae that reveal, for the first time, a pottery centre from the Roman period, around the 1st century. This fact provides a broader view of the economy of the area and is supported with other pottery research of the region of La Marina Alta and La Safor, which reveal that wine and oil were the main resources of the city Another referral in Oliva's past was Gregorio Mayans y Siscar, one of the greatest representatives of the Spanish and European Enlightenment.

During his active life, he was librarian to King Philip V and professor at the University of Valencia.

In the last stage of his life, he retired to Oliva, his hometown, from where he sent hundreds of letters to enlightened people from all over Europe, reflecting on a wide range of subjects, as his collection of letters shows.

In the 20th century, the poet Francisco Brines stands out, renowned with distinctions such as the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas (1999), the Reina SofÌa de PoesÌa Iberoamericana (2010) or the Miguel de Cervantes (2020). His poetry is absolutely rooted in the landscape, in the olive tree and the orange, and convey the aroma, the smell and even the breath of citrus, so characteristic of the area.

In the 1920s, the Necropolis of Castellar was discovered, with a magnificent collection of Iberian artefacts. These are currently on display in the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona and in the Museum of the Franciscan Fathers in Ontinyent.

A decade later, thanks to the excavations carried out during the construction of the road from Oliva to Pego, the city of Oliva stood out thanks to its pottery, one of the most precious in the Iberian world. It was so important that it was featured on a vase of the warriors of Oliva on the cover of the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona Guide.

From the Middle Ages, we should highlight the economic growth of the County of Oliva and the rich monumental heritage which, unfortunately, was lost during the 20th century. Among others, the Palau de los Centelles, a global benchmark for its Renaissance art and decoration from the first decades of the 16th century, stands out.

SerafÌ de Centelles, third Count of Oliva and a crucial gentleman in Valencian politics and in the nobility of the time of Charles V was also responsible for introducing that style from Italy..

Gabriel Ciscar y Ciscar is another of the most enlightened from a maritime and political perspective. He also stood out for being one of the chief magistrates in the drafting of the 1812 Constitution of Cádiz, and for writing a series of guidebooks that served for almost a century in the training of sailors.
