Since its founding by farmworker advocates in a room above La Luna Market in Rutherford, OLE Health has been guided by one core principle: everyone deserves quality healthcare. Over the past five decades, OLE Health has made dramatic advances in how healthcare is delivered to the most vulnerable and those most likely to otherwise not have access to care. Today, at six health centers from Calistoga to American Canyon, more than 35,000 residents of Napa County call OLE Health their medical home.

Welcome to Vida OLE! On behalf of the OLE Health Foundation Board of Directors, I thank you for being with us this evening as we come together to celebrate the people, the beauty, and the bounty that make Napa Valley a place like none other.

Perhaps there is no one we owe more gratitude to than those who work tirelessly to steward the land, harvest the grapes, and provide the hospitality revered around the world. It is in honor of these neighbors that we are here tonight. We celebrate those who sparked the idea to create a healthcare safety net that has grown to meet the needs of our entire community.

From its humble beginnings in a market above La Luna market where volunteer doctors and nurses cared for migrant farmworkers to today where patients from all walks of life are cared for in state-of-the-art health centers by a staff of dedicated healthcare professionals, OLE Health has been a constant in our community for more than five decades. It is a place of trust. A place of compassion. A place of hope.

Tonight, we have the extraordinary opportunity to continue this legacy of ensuring the highest-quality healthcare for everyone who walks through our doors regardless of their ability to pay.

The funds raised tonight will support OLE Health’s programs and services here in Napa Valley. Programs like mobile health that bring care directly to our vineyards and schools. Services that connect our highest-need patients with securing a roof over their head and food on their table. And comprehensive primary care for those who would otherwise go without.

RICK JONES, recipient

John Shafer Visionary Award

The OLE Health Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Jones Family Vineyards Proprietor Rick Jones will be the recipient of the inaugural John Shafer Visionary Award. The award honors the legacy of vintner John Shafer, who was among OLE Health’s fiercest advocates. Shafer helped create the OLE Health Foundation and foster the community support that sustains the organization today. The John Shafer Visionary Award recognizes an individual who has committed him or herself to furthering the mission of OLE Health, which is to ensure that high-quality primary care is provided to everyone who lives and works in the communities it serves.

“I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Rick Jones,” said Darioush Khaledi, Chair of the OLE Health Foundation Board. “Over the years, Rick has been a cornerstone of our organization, always giving generously of his time, expertise, and resources. He sets an excellent example for all of us, especially the next generation of community leaders and philanthropists.”

With service spanning more than two decades, Rick has been a stalwart advocate for OLE Health. He originally joined the operating board in 2013, serving as treasurer from 2014–2015, and board chair from 2017–2018. He stepped down from his role on the operating board in 2022, but he remains

treasurer of the OLE Health Foundation Board and a trusted advisor for OLE Health leadership. Throughout his tenure, Rick has leveraged his financial expertise as a member of the board’s finance committee, helping OLE Health manage its assets prudently to ensure the financial health and viability of the organization. He, along with his wife Elaine, have also been exceedingly generous with their own money, giving OLE Health roughly $1 million over the years.

Says Rick, “Making sure that healthcare is available to everyone is important to ensuring Napa is the kind of place that I want to call home. OLE Health is the organization that does that. The commitment that OLE Health has to being open to everyone, regardless of ability to pay, with an emphasis on helping farmworkers, has driven my involvement and dedication to the organization.”

The John Shafer Visionary Award was presented at the Vida OLE! Visionaries’ Luncheon on May 18, 2023, hosted by Jean-Charles Boisset and Gina Gallo at their Wappo Hill home. The invitation-only event acknowledges those who have provided significant support to OLE Health throughout its 50-plus year history and serves as the official kick-off to Vida OLE!

For the past 21 years, the Napa Valley Vintners North Napa Campus has been the backbone of OLE Health’s integrated patient-centered services. Centrally located on Pear Tree Lane along key public transportation routes and a few blocks from Queen of the Valley Hospital and other specialty care providers, it is the busiest of all six OLE Health sites serving nearly one-third of all OLE Health patients.

Day in and day out more than 17,000 patients rely on OLE Health’s North Napa Campus to be their medical home. It is the trusted place they come to for preventive care and immunizations, where they receive medications to manage chronic conditions, a behavioral health refuge for life’s challenging times, and a resource for affordable quality wrap-around care so that they can be at their best for their families and our community.

As the need for primary care continues to grow for more and more of our neighbors, so too does the need to upgrade this vital community healthcare hub. With your help, we can improve the efficiency, quality, and scope of care provided at our North Napa Campus.

When Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi created Opus One, they dreamed of a great wine that would transcend generations. Nearly four decades later, the estate’s skilled winemaking team continues to refine the complex subtleties of Opus One by honoring traditional methods and the continual pursuit of innovation and improvement.

Today, Opus One invites four couples to take part in a unique full-day harvest experience to immerse themselves in the winegrowing process that creates a single wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality.

The experience begins with an early morning harvest excursion in the famed To Kalon vineyard accompanied by our vineyard team and Michael where you can view and participate in the harvest. In the cool early morning air, take in the sights and sounds of the bustling world around you, then put on a pair of gloves and try your hand at picking. The winemaking team will walk you through the winery and immerse you in the winemaking process.

You’ll then be rewarded for your morning’s work with a gourmet lunch in the Salon at Opus One. After lunch, you’ll experience a vertical tasting of Opus One from 2010 to 2019 with Michael and his team, as they highlight the unique aspects of each vintage.

Later that evening, you and your guests will be welcomed back to the winery for a gala dinner experience on the Veranda that begins with caviar and Champagne in the Partners’ Room while an elegant quartet plays in the background. Winery Chef Sarah Scott will then deliver an exquisite multicourse culinary experience paired with wines from around the world including four library vintages of Opus One. Today, nearly a century later, the Mille Miglia — named for its nearly 1,000-mile-long Roman route — continues the tradition as a classic car road race.

In this bespoke Mille Miglia experience, you and seven friends will experience the race route in an unforgettable way. It all begins in Verona with a delicious welcome dinner before taking part in the exciting start of the 2024 Mille Miglia race in Brescia the following day. Here you’ll be up close and personal with all 450 vintage cars taking part in the trek and send them on their way during the festive village parade.

You’ll then travel to Siena, where after a guided walking tour of the city, you’ll have a close-up vantage point to welcome the racers into the city’s famed Piazza del Campo. The following day, it’s your turn to get behind the wheel of your own vintage Fiat 500 for a car rally through the scenic Chianti countryside, stopping in local villages and visiting a winery for a tour and lunch.

The next day, your private Mille Miglia adventure continues with visits to the Lamborghini production facility and museum and the Enzo Ferrari museum before reaching Parma, one of the world’s most renowned food cities. While in Parma you’ll take part in a walking tour of the city as well as visit a balsamic vinegar farm, savor the handcrafted production of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and experience a local winery.

As your leisurely journey along the famed race route concludes, you and your friends will have made memories to last long into the next century of this storied tradition.

2019 Dalla Valle Vineyards Maya: Named after founders Naoko and Gustav’s daughter, this special blend of Maya’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the best selected blocks of Cabernet Franc, received a perfect 100-point score from the Wine Advocate, saying the 2019 Maya “palate is stunningly graceful and refined, finishing with much brightness and energy.”

2014 Colgin Cellars IX Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend: Robert Parker gave this wine grown on Colgin’s steep hillside vineyards on Pritchard Hill 98 points stating, “the texture is magnificent, and the overall purity and equilibrium flawless. This magnificent effort from Colgin should drink beautifully for 25–30 years.”

2014 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon: First planted to vines in the 1880s, the wines from Eisele Vineyard express the depth, elegance, and longevity that are its hallmarks. Boasting 99 points from James Suckling, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is “full-bodied, yet everything’s in finesse. A joy to taste now, but this will improve for decades ahead.”

2018 Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon: Known for its trademark style of elegance, richness, and balance, this Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Shafer’s rugged hillside vineyards in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District. Jeb Dunnuck, who gave it a perfect 100-point score, says this wine has “incredible purity and precision and is as good as any Cabernet Sauvignon in the world today.”

Entertainment Ozomatli

Ozomatli is an American six-piece band known for its wide array of musical styles including salsa, jazz, funk, reggae, rap, and more. The group — widely recognized for advocating for farmworkers’ rights and immigration reform — has released seven studio albums, won two Grammy Awards, composed music for “Happy Feet Two” and recorded ”Ozomatli Presents Ozokidz,” a family-friendly album. They also served as the house band for “Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution” comedy show and toured with Santana on their Supernatural Tour, where legendary guitarist Carlos Santana described Ozomatli as “the future of music.”

Ozomatli has performed their high-energy live shows in countries all over the world including China, Tunisia, Jordan, Cuba, and Myanmar. The band is back with their first full album in five years, the triumphantly titled “Marching On.”
