22- Adding a Favicon

to a Web Site
This method describes how to create a custom favicon (the icon you see to the left of the URL in the browser's URL window) and add it to your web site. 1 - go to the favicongenerator web site. 2 - in Step 2 click on the Choose File button.
3 - navigate your HD and select the graphic/image file you want to use for the favicon and in Step 3 click on the Download button.
4 - mount your iDisk and place the favicon.ico file that was generated and downloaded to your HD into the iDisk/Web/Sites folder. 5 - go to your site folder on the idisk and open any .html file with a text editor that has multi-file find and replace capability. An application with very good multi-file global Find and Replace is the freeware TextWrangler by the developers of BBEdit. 6 - type Command+F to open the Find window and enter the following in the Search For: and Replace With: windows: Search For: <head><meta Replace With: <head> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://web.me.com/Your_MMe_Account_Name/favic on.ico"><meta
7 - check the Multi-File Search box and click on Other. Navigate to your iDisk/Web/Sites folder and select your site folder.
8 - click on Replace All and in the next window select Save to Disk and Confirm All
9 - when the process is completed you will be presented with a list of files that were edited and saved. Close TextWrangler, open your site in the browser and you'll see your favicon next to its URL.
NOTE: If you have domain name HTML forwarding and masking enabled for your site the favicon will not display. 10 - WARNING: you will have to repeat the global find and replace each time your republish your site. If you're updating only one page then you can just select and edit that page.
