Students take to the Quad to celebrate Obama’s reelection BY IAN RUTLEDGE Executive News Editor rutlig11@wfu.edu The first African-American president in United States history has been reelected for a second term in the White House.
In a decisive victory, Barack Obama, the incumbent candidate, claimed victory over Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate from Massachusetts. The election was hard fought and up for grabs until swing states such as New Hampshire, Pennsylvannia, Florida and Ohio started reporting results in Obama’s favor. The number of outcomes with a Romney victory narrowed rapidly, and at 12:55 a.m. on election night he delivered his concession
speech. “I wish all of them well, but particularly the president, the first lady and their daughters,” Romney said. “This is a time of great challenges for America, and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.” Immediately following Romney’s concession, Obama delivered his acceptance speech in his hometown of Chicago.
