Visas - Child Student Visas
Aptos Display 28Pt
For children from countries outside the UK or Ireland, a Child Student visa is generally required, replacing the Tier 4 (Child) visa. Exceptions apply if they have another visa allowing them to study in the UK or are EU, EFTA nationals with EU Settlement Scheme status.

Passport expiry dates should be checked, and renewed, if necessary, before submitting a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), issued by approved schools like ours through UKVI, ensuring all details, including fees and passport information, are accurate. Sable International supports the application process as King’s legal representative as a visa sponsor.

Visa applications can be made up to six months before travel (outside UK) or three months before course starts (inside UK). Importantly, applicants cannot enter or leave the UK during processing, as doing so may invalidate the application.

Online immigration status (eVisa)
An eVisa is a digital immigration record replacing physical documents which started 1 January 2025. While it does not change an individual’s immigration status, setting up and managing a UKVI account allows migrants to view and update their eVisa details online, link it to their passports, and prove their status to others through a share code.

For Child Student visas, approved applications result in a 90-day travel vignette or an online immigration status, and under-18 applicants must have a UK-based Education Guardian to ensure care during holidays or emergencies. Sable International facilitates visa applications.
The UKVI account provides access to the ‘view and prove your immigration status’ service, offering a secure digital record of immigration status that is held by the Home Office and always accessible. This service replaces the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and allows users to view immigration details, update personal information, and generate share codes to prove their status to others, such as employers or education providers.

Guardians
Aptos Display 28Pt
Guardians play a vital role in supporting your child’s education in the UK, acting as the first point of contact in emergencies, coordinating with the school on pastoral matters, arranging travel, and providing care during holidays. Parents should refer to the Guardianship Policy for guidance on selecting a guardian or seek assistance from AEGIS. Combined with UKVI requirements and immigration compliance, these measures ensure the child’s safety, smooth transitions, and adherence to regulations during their educational journey.
Please see our Guardianship Policy for more information about choosing a guardian you can also contact AEGIS for help and guidance finding a guardian.

Arrival into the UK
Aptos Display 28Pt
To ensure compliance with the National Minimum Standards for Boarding and UKVI regulations, pupils with visas must adhere to immigration rules and sponsor guidance, traveling to the UK only once their Child Student Visa is issued not on a Visitor Visa, unless their course is no longer than six months.
Arrival details, including transportation and accommodation, must be communicated to the school promptly: icreception@kings-school.co.uk and unaccompanied pupils should carry a letter confirming who will pick them up. For those under 16, taxi information may be required, as border staff often verify these details.

The UK's Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme, introduced by the Home Office, aims to digitise borders by 2025. This initiative will require visitors from countries such as Europe, Australia, the US, and Canada to apply for permission to enter the UK via an online form or mobile app. To apply, travellers need a valid biometric passport, travel details, an email address, a credit/debit card, and must answer suitability questions. A fee of £16 applies, and approval typically takes up to 72 hours. While the ETA is not a visa, travellers must apply before their journey to avoid fines. It ensures smoother entry for eligible visitors. Useful resources are available on GOV.UK and YouTube for guidance. Parents are encouraged to complete a Permission-to-Fly letter to facilitate smooth entry and avoid complications.

Right to Study Checks

Right-to-Study checks for sponsored students are conducted during the first two days of term at student induction. Students must provide the necessary documents, which will be verified and copied to meet UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requirements as part of the school’s sponsor duties.
Parents are reminded to ensure their child has these documents ready at the start of the September term.
