Why Apprenticeships? About King’s
Apprenticeships are structured training programmes that are linked to employment and combine taught and ‘on the job’ learning. Training is often also linked to professional accreditation.
Apprenticeship training costs are funded by the King’s Levy. This is a pot of funding which is ring fenced for apprenticeships. Apprenticeships can be completed by newly appointed Apprentices but can also be used to develop the skills and knowledge of existing employees.

Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship Programme
The King’s School partners with the University of Buckingham to offer the nationally recognised Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship Programme. The course provides an Apprenticeship route to Qualified Teacher Status with the option of completing a PGCE.
Programme Overview
The one-year course combines practical classroom experience with high-quality academic support. You will receive expert guidance, training, and mentoring to develop your teaching skills, alongside the opportunity to complete a placement in another school.
Programme Delivery
· On-the-job training: You will work full-time in your school, while being supported by a dedicated in-school mentor.
· University-led training: The University of Buckingham provides weekly online seminars, academic assignments, and personalised guidance from experienced teacher educators.
· Observation and feedback: Regular lesson observations and progress reviews will help you refine your practice and track your development against the Teachers’ Standards.
· End-Point Assessment: At the end of the programme, you will undertake an assessment to confirm you have met all apprenticeship and QTS requirements.
Funding
The course is fully funded by the Apprenticeship Levy.
There is an additional cost associated with the PGCE which the school will meet in the fist instance with the expectation of a reimbursement if you leave within a year of qualifying.

“My coaching development has enabled me to support both colleagues and pupils more effectively. Structured, reflective conversations with colleagues have helped them progress professionally and have positively influenced our team culture, promoting emotional intelligence, active listening, and a more solution-focused approach. The skills I have learnt have also enabled me to better guide pupils, helping them to build their motivation and confidence to achieve their goals and aspirations.”
