>> Rates: Which one is right for you?

FROM the TOP CEO ADDRESS

When you open your electric bill each month, you see a number. For many, that number raises questions. Why is it that high? What exactly am I paying for? Are there ways to lower it? These are fair questions — and ones we want to help answer.

One thing that's not always obvious is that most of your cooperative's costs are fixed. That means whether you use one kilowatt-hour or 1,000, the bulk of what it takes to maintain your electric service doesn't change.

We build and maintain the lines, poles, substations and systems that deliver power to homes and businesses across our entire service area. This includes a service availability charge on your bill, which helps cover the essential fixed costs for maintaining and replacing infrastructure, distribution services, and administration. Every member pays this charge, ensuring a fair contribution to the cooperative's overall operational costs.

To enhance your experience, we're always looking at how we can provide flexible options that cater to a variety of needs. We've developed different rate options to better match how members use electricity.

We offer a few rate plans designed to meet different usage patterns and lifestyles. Our Standard Residential Rate is simple and predictable. Our Electric Vehicle Rate, initially developed for EV owners charging overnight, has also proven to be a cost-saver for many members who heat or use appliances at night, even without an EV. For a more in-depth look at each residential rate, flip to the next page for the article titled "Unlock Savings."

If you're unsure which rate you should be on, we have a team of experts ready to help you decide. You can submit a Rate Comparison Request at okcoop.org/rate-comparison, and a member of our team will provide you with a detailed report to help you determine which rate is best for you based on your personalized usage data and trends.

We're committed to keeping rates fair, transparent, and aligned with the actual cost of providing service. Thank you for being part of the cooperative and letting us power your life.

OEC named 2025 Tree Line USA Utility by Arbor Day Foundation for the 19th year in a row

The Arbor Day Foundation recognized Oklahoma Electric Cooperative as a 2025 Tree Line USA for its commitment to balancing the delivery of reliable electricity with the preservation of urban forests and the profound layers of benefits trees provide communities.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit with a mission to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. Its network of more than a million supporters and partners has helped the organization plant more than 500 million trees in forests and communities across more than 60 countries since 1972. The Tree Line USA program recognizes service providers that maintain a high standard of care when planting or maintaining trees on the job.

“Trees strengthen our communities and make our neighborhoods healthier in so many ways. But they need us to plant and care for them, which is why it is so important that utilities do their part to help urban forests thrive,” said Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation. “OEC demonstrates that safe and reliable electricity doesn’t need to come at the expense of tree canopies. They are setting a positive example for their community, and we’re proud to have them as part of our national network of forward-thinking service providers.”

Trees make communities more livable. They clean the air,

cool cities, and provide physical and mental health benefits for people. When the right trees are planted in the right places, they also shade homes and businesses and help reduce the demand on energy during peak service hours, ultimately lowering energy costs for residents. The proper maintenance of trees can also increase the reliability of utility services during strong storms, as properly maintained trees result in fewer downed lines. 5201101202

To qualify as a Tree Line USA, utilities must uphold five core principles, including following industry standards for quality tree care, providing annual worker training in best tree care practices, sponsoring a tree planting and public education program, maintaining a tree-based energy conservation program and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

The Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Line USA program is operated in partnership with the National Association of State Foresters. To learn more about the program or how to apply, visit arborday.org.

UNLOCK SAVINGS

Explore OEC’s electric rate options and you could save

At OEC, we are always committed to ensuring our members get the best value for their hard-earned dollars. That’s why we offer many ways to save on your energy bills. One step you can take today — and at no cost to you! — is to explore our electric rates and use our tools to see if you’re on the most economical rate for your specific electricity use.

“Almost 10 years ago, OEC’s board of trustees introduced a second rate for residential members, giving them an option if they were not satisfied with the rate they had been on previously,” said Ashley Evans, residential rate analyst. “Now, our residential members may choose between three different electric rates, and they each have pros and cons depending on usage patterns and convenience.”

While the rate plan you are currently on — Standard Residential, Time-of-Use or Electric Vehicle — can be beneficial, it’s important to periodically review your usage patterns to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. Before exploring the rate options, the following steps might be helpful:

• Find your current electric rate: Grab the latest copy of your bill (can be found on the MyOEC mobile app or online portal) and look for “Rate” field.

• Log in to your account at okcoop.org or the MyOEC mobile app and navigate to the usage data.

Now, let’s take a closer look at each rate.

STANDARD RESIDENTIAL RATE

This rate is perfect for members who like simplicity and convenience and who use an average of 1,600 or more kWhs per month. This rate offers:

• Simplicity and convenience: The same kWh charges year-round.

• Freedom: Members do not need to program appliances or modify electricity use.

• Savings: For members who use an average of 1,600 or more kWhs per month.

• $1.50 daily service availability charge

TIME-OF-USE RATE

This rate is our most complex and is perfect for energy savers who are willing to modify behavior to maximize savings. It offers:

• Energy Savers: And those willing to modify their behavior to maximize savings.

• Peak Hours: This is a perfect rate for those who are able to shift energy use away from summertime weekday peak hours. On-peak hours are between 3 and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday between June 1 and August 31, excluding July 4.

• Usage Shifting: Those able to shift large appliance use to off-peak hours either manually or with tools like programmable thermostats.

• $1 daily service availability charge

All rates incur a daily service availability charge, which pays for some of OEC’s fixed costs to safely deliver electricity to homes and businesses. It includes costs associated with distribution and generation capacity, line maintenance, system improvements, and costs for billing, member services and administration. To learn more about the service availability charge, read CEO Patrick Grace’s From the Top column in this month’s issue or visit OEC’s YouTube channel to watch a more detailed explanation.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A HOME ENERGY AUDIT

Our home energy audit comprises three parts: evaluation, energy testing and recommendations.

First, our energy advisor conducts a walk-through of your home, examining energy use and problem areas. The advisor will look at specific elements of your home impacting energy use, such as doors, windows and insulation levels. The advisor will examine major appliances including your heating and cooling system and conduct a room-by-room assessment. During the assessment, the advisor will ask

questions about your energy use habits and review past energy bills

In the testing phase, the advisor will evaluate the seal of your home by conducting a blower door test to identify the source of any air leaks or drafts.

Finally, the advisor will provide you with a detailed evaluation. This is a written report with a description of your home, an analysis of your energy use, recommendations regarding energy consumption and steps you can take to improve efficiency and save money.

YOU HAVE THE POWER

Small actions combined can have a big impact on summer energy bills.

The best way to lower energy use during summer months is to raise the thermostat to the highest comfortable setting. Ceiling fans can also help you feel cooler but remember to turn them off when you leave the room. On warm summer nights, fire up the grill to keep additional heat out of the kitchen. Remember to change air filters often so your cooling system doesn’t have to work harder than necessary.

Visit okcoop.org for additional energy-saving advice from our energy experts. Don’t let energy bills take a toll on your summer fun. OEC is here to help manage your energy use, whether through efficiency programs and services or energy-saving advice from our local energy advisors.

Right Tree, Right Place

Discover the importance of proper tree planting for safety and energy savings

Planting the right tree in the right place can significantly impact homeowners' energy savings. Studies have shown that a single tree, when planted in the proper location, can save up to 20 percent on energy costs. This means that not only do trees provide aesthetic benefits to our communities, but they also have a tangible impact on our wallets and the environment. However, planting is easier said than done. Considering factors such as proximity to power lines or the potential for root damage to nearby structures is critical to your trees' health and safety. For tips on planting your trees in the right place, go to link.okcoop.org/ treeplantingguide

As a cooperative committed to providing safe and reliable energy to our members, OEC recognizes the importance of proper vegetation management practices. We have two arborists on staff to assess the health and safety of trees near power lines, and we use herbicides to control the growth of trees and other vegetation that could interfere with power lines.

This not only helps to prevent power outages and ensure public safety, but it also helps to promote the growth of healthy, energy-saving trees in the right places. By working to maintain a clear right-of-way for power lines, we are also promoting the planting of new trees in in appropriate locations through our annual EnergySaving Trees giveaway. This not only helps to prevent the need for costly and potentially dangerous pruning or removal of trees in the future, but it also maximizes the energy-saving benefits of trees for homeowners. 1713413701

Planting the right tree in the right place is essential for maximizing trees' energy-saving benefits. We play a vital role in promoting proper vegetation management practices to ensure trees are planted and maintained in

By working together to promote healthy trees and a healthy environment, we can all benefit from the many benefits trees provide. Happy planting!

CAPRESE PASTA SALAD

Ingredients

ƒ 1 lb fusilli pasta

ƒ 3 tbsp olive oil

ƒ 2 cloves garlic, minced

ƒ 3 cups cherry tomatoes, quartered (about 1 1/2 pints)

ƒ 1 tsp salt

Directions

ƒ 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

ƒ 1/2 cup packed fresh basil leaves, torn

ƒ 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, diced (about 1 1/4 cups) ƒ

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain pasta into a large bowl and reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid.

2. In a medium skillet heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, salt, and pepper. As the tomatoes cook and soften, smash them with a fork. Continue to cook until the tomatoes make a chunky style sauce, about 4 minutes. Transfer the tomato sauce to the bowl with the pasta. Toss to combine. Add the basil leaves and mozzarella. Stir to combine. Add the reserved pasta water, 1/4 cup at a time, until the pasta is moist. Serve.
