Mission
The Meinders School of Business prepares students to be socially responsible leaders in a global economy through teaching excellence and faculty scholarship in business practice and the disciplines. Faculty and students engage with the business community, local government, and regulatory agencies as part of the teaching-learning process. Degrees The Meinders School of Business offers the degrees of Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Energy Management, and Master of Science in Energy Legal Studies. Business programs are fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Faculty The faculty at the Meinders School of Business are teaching scholars dedicated to learning through the study and practice of business. They are accomplished writers and consultants with extensive experience in the business community. Ninety percent of the faculty hold doctorate degrees or the equivalent and regularly publish articles in professional and academic journals. Professors are accessible and their expertise covers the spectrum of the business and economic disciplines.

A Message from the Dean
It is a distinct privilege for me to serve as Dean of the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University. As a part of a liberal arts university, the Meinders School of Business and its faculty focus on teaching, academic and applied research, and community service.
Our primary undergraduate academic degrees include a Bachelor of Business Administration, with specific disciplines or specializations (majors) in accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and business administration. We also have an undergraduate degree in software engineering.
Our graduate degrees include a Master of Science in Accounting, a Master of Science in Computer Science, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Energy Management, a Master of Science in Energy Legal Studies, and we offer, in conjunction with OCU School of Law, a joint JD/MBA degree program. To facilitate rigorous instruction of this diverse set of educational programs requires an extraordinary faculty. #2 in the nation for Accounting and Finance Degrees
Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance The Meinders School of Business was ranked number two in the country in the 30 Great Small Colleges for an Accounting and Finance Degree list by the Master of Finance Degrees website. The rank order among the top 30 schools – out of a pool of more than 500 – was determined by consensus of Master of Finance Degrees staff, “based solely on the presence of innovative and exceptional programs.” The organization noted OCU’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation and stated that “many accounting firms, including the so called ‘big four’ audit firms which are Deloitte, PwC, Ernst and Young, and KPMG recruit Oklahoma City University graduates.” Students at OCU receive a higher level of learning and engagement inside the classroom, offering a unique environment built around the success of each individual. Our professors help students gain a higher connectedness to their course of study by practicing critical thinking and applied learning in real business situations, along with theories and principles related to business.

Areas of Expertise Dr. Eddward T. Herron is an assistant professor of accounting in the MBA program, and develops/teaches courses in principles of fraud examination and forensic accounting. Before coming to OCU, he worked in regulatory auditing, banking supervision, fraud examination, and bank consulting for more than 22 years — both domestically for the Federal Reserve and internationally for the International Monetary Fund. Thereafter, he completed his Ph.D. in accounting at Oklahoma State University (graduating in July 2012) and has been teaching at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse campus, since August 2012. His goal is to help develop a master’s degree specialization in white-collar crime detection/prevention. Dr. Herron is a Commissioned Examiner by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Certified Public Accountant, and Certified Fraud Examiner. His research interests are in auditor creativity, financial institution efficiency, and auditing in general. He also writes “case stories” based on his own experiences in auditing and fraud examination. He is married and enjoys devoting as much time as possible to family activities. Professional Activities Dr. Herron is a Commissioned Examiner by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (CE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Susan Jurney

Areas of Expertise Dr. Jurney specializes in teaching taxation and financial accounting. Her research interests are primarily judgment and decision making of taxpayers, tax professionals, and nonprofessional investors. Dr. Jurney’s research has been presented in numerous national academic conferences, such as the American Accounting Association annual meeting, American Taxation Association annual meeting, Accounting, Behavior and Organizations annual research conference, and the annual Behavioral Tax Symposium. Her research has been published in Advances in Accounting and The Tax Adviser. Her current research examining generational differences in perceptions of fairness and tax compliance attitudes has been cited in The New York Times. Before joining the faculty at Oklahoma City University, she was on the faculty at the University of Alabama and the University of Arkansas. Dr. Jurney has taught the following courses: Fundamentals of Tax I and II, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting I, and Tax Research. Professional Activities Dr. Jurney is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Oklahoma. She is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Taxation Association, and Accounting, Behavior and Organizations. Dr. Jurney is serving as vice chair of the American Taxation Association 2017 Annual Meeting Program committee. Prior to entering academia, she was a financial analyst for IBM and spent three years in public accounting (working for Arthur Andersen).

Randy Murray

Areas of Expertise As a practicing certified public accountant for 25 years, Randy gained expertise in a variety of areas including financial and managerial accounting. In addition, he developed areas of interest in valuation of businesses and passed the certified valuation analysis exam. He provided litigation support in many court cases as an expert witness. During Randy’s years of public practice, he gained valuable experience as an auditor and management consultant. Professional Activities Randy is a Certified Public Accountant and has been an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA). He served for two years as the chair of the OSCPA Small Firms committee and has been an active member of the OSCPA’s Accounting Careers Committee for five years.

Evan Shough

Areas of Expertise Dr. Shough specializes in financial valuation of investments and companies. His other primary area of interest is internal control and security in information systems. His teaching includes Financial Accounting and Theory and Accounting Information Systems. His primary research interests are financial disclosure, valuation and pedagogical issues involving technology. Prior to his academic career, Shough worked in business software development. Before joining the faculty at Oklahoma City University, he spent four years as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Professional Activities Associate Professor Shough is a member of the American Accounting Association and Financial Executives International and faculty sponsor for the accounting club.

Areas of Expertise Professor Carlton’s professional and academic focuses are on information technology project management, strategic planning, business process reengineering, vendor software package acquisition and implementation, business process modeling and long range planning. He has been a Professor of Information Technology at Oklahoma City for the last 15 years.
Professional Activities Professor Carlton has an extensive career in information technology. He has worked as a technology consultant, creating disaster-recovery plans, designing data communications networks and selected application software for many organizations. He was an information technology director for the Fleming Companies, as well as the information technology director for American Floral Services. Professor Carlton also has served on numerous advisory boards ranging from development of software products, data communications products, and computer hardware development. Two of these included projects in Boblingen, Germany and La Gaude France. Additionally, he has been published and quoted in numerous Information Technology trade journals.

He has presented at numerous conferences and published research concerning how best for organizations and individuals to process e-mail. His current research focuses on how the use of mobile technology can affect and enhance events. Professional Activities Professor Greve is the founder of LiveClassTech.com, JoinProf.com, and JoinSpeaker.com, all of which are innovative audience response systems for use in the classroom and business worlds. He has led multiple successful teams in creation of business plans for the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Business Plan Competition.

Areas of Expertise Mr. Khader has more than 20 years’ experience in the Information Technology field. He is an independent consultant and manages a familyowned computer consulting business. Professional Activities Visiting Assistant Professor Khader participates in computer shows and seminars in the area of computing, telecommunications, and electronics. He publishes and presents papers in the area of e-mail management, accounting information systems, and Islamic banking. He holds several certificates in computers and application, and sales and marketing.

Areas of Expertise Dr. Park specializes in two main areas. One is Risk Analysis (modeling, analysis and forecasting) on financial informatics, and the other is Defect/Fault Tolerance in semiconductor chip module (design, testing and diagnosis). Professional Activities Dr. Park currently serves as a reviewer of articles in Microprocessor and Microsystems, Elseviet, and in IEEE Symposium on Defect and Fault Tolerance in VLSI. He has also served as a Session Chair in US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology.

Areas of Expertise Dr. Satyavolu’s research is centered on wireless and mobile networks. Specifically, her work toward improving radio-frequency identification (RFID) protocol efficiencies earned her a Ph.D. Her past projects include calculation of red shift in galaxies (NASA Camcos Project), and developing algorithms for recommendation systems based on users’ media interests and viewer history (similar to Netflix). Dr. Satyavolu presented at the Globecom 2014 conference. Professional Activities Dr. Satyavolu is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. She has worked for Danger Inc. (acquired by Microsoft), Wind River Systems (makers of the operating system used in the NASA Mars Rover and tiny devices), and more recently for Institutional Shareholder Services in Norman, Okla., where she implemented software as a service model.

Areas of Expertise Dr. Agee is an economist specializing in energy policy, banking, monetary theory, and macroeconomic policy. Having served in the private sector for thirty years as President and COO of oil and natural gas exploration and production companies, Dr. Agee has the unique combination of academic and private industry experience to administer, teach, design and implement new programs and speaker’s series in the energy field. In addition, having served six years (20062011) on the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Oklahoma City Branch, the last three as its Chairman, Dr. Agee has enormous contacts and resources in the banking industry, and has taught Money & Banking at Oklahoma City University.
Professional Activities Dean Agee is President and COO of Agee Energy, LLC, a private oil and natural gas company in downtown Oklahoma City. Prior to forming his own company in 2006, Dr. Agee served as President and COO of XAE Corporation, a privately owned oil and gas company, from 1982 to 2005; and as President and COO of Lee & Agee, Inc., from 1988 to 2006. Dr. Agee joined the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in March 2006. He concluded a sixyear stint with the Fed in December 2011, having served the last three years as Chairman of the Oklahoma City Branch Board. He has served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations and additionally served as President of each Board: The Economic Club of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Philharmonic Society, Petroleum Club of Oklahoma City, and the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB), the latter for which he served as Chairman for three years. Dr. Agee also served as Director and past Treasurer of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association (OIPA). Dean Agee is currently a member of the Oklahoma City Economic Roundtable and serves on the following Boards of Directors/Trustees: The Oklahoma City Philharmonic Foundation, Allied Arts, and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF). Dean Agee is a member of the Fortune Club and is on the Board of El Sistema Oklahoma.

Kyle Dean

Areas of Expertise Dr. Kyle Dean is an experienced professional economist who provides economic analysis to government, business, and non-profit leaders throughout the region. Dr. Dean began consulting in 2005 and his client list includes some of Oklahoma’s most influential businesses and trade associations, including the Oklahoma Independent Producers Association (OIPA), the Oklahoma Bankers’ Association (OBA), the Oklahoma Telephone Association (OTA) and many others. He is best known for his comprehensive work with Oklahoma tribes, having completed the first ever estimate of the combined economic impacts from Oklahoma tribal activities. Professional Activities Dr. Dean is a member of the American Economic Association and the National Association of Business Economists.

Jacob Dearmon

Areas of Expertise Dr. Dearmon specializes in macroeconomic development, spatial econometrics and modeling of higher education outcomes. He has published in journals such as Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and European Journal of Political Economy. His current research stream involves analyzing spatial processes using machine-learning techniques and he has applied these techniques to real-world issues found in the energy industry. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Dearmon spent a few years as a consultant developing computer applications for the oil and gas industry.
Professional Activities Associate Professor Dearmon has worked with the Steven C. Agee Economic Research and Policy Institute to design and create an Oklahoma forecast model for the City of Oklahoma City. He is a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon and the American Economic Association.

Russell Evans
Executive Director of the Steven C. Areas of Expertise Dr. Evans brings academic and business perspectives to his teaching and specializes in regional and fiscal economic forecasting, local analysis of fiscal systems, economic impact analysis, and custom policy modeling. His teaching interests include business statistics and econometrics, energy economics, labor economics, natural resource economics, and public finance. His academic research currently focuses on the jurisdictionalspecific burden of the residential property tax and empirical estimates of the effect of local externalities on property values.
Professional Activities Dr. Evans is the Executive Director of the Steven C. Agee Economic Research and Policy Institute (ERPI), Director of the Center for Regional Economic Forecasting and Policy Analysis, and Assistant Professor of Economics. He is a Co-Founder Principal of the Economic Impact Group, LLC. As the Executive Director of ERPI he is involved in developing relationships with the business community and directing funded research projects.
Dr. Evans’ research involves issues important to local civic leaders including the economic and fiscal outlook for the OKC economy, the Oklahoma Consumer Sentiment Index, the Oklahoma Energy Index, and the economic impact of the state’s primary industries including oil and gas and Native American operations. In addition to his research being regularly cited in local and regional media outlets, Dr. Evans also speaks regularly to local audiences in regards to local and national economic conditions and policy. He is a member of the American Economic Association, the National Association for Business Economics, and the Missouri Valley Economic Association.

Currently Dr. Ma’s research focuses on socially responsible investing. He studies the competitiveness of socially screened mutual funds vs. conventional mutual funds, as well as whether specific strategies such as green investing can generate competitive returns. Dr. Ma’s work has been presented at the Financial Management Association meetings, Eastern Finance Association annual meetings, Seoul International Derivatives Securities Conference, and various regional conferences. Dr. Ma has published in well-regarded academic journals including Financial Management and Journal of Applied Finance. His work on socially responsible investing has also been quoted by major business media such as CNBC.com, Bloomberg-BusinessWeek, and the Wealth Journal.
Professional Activities: Dr. Ma joined OCU after earning his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2008. As a Ph.D. student, Dr. Ma was a winner of Lilly Teaching Assistantship, winner of University of Notre Dame “Ethical Dimensions in Business” Conference Scholarship, the Ph.D. representative on the School of Management Ph.D. Policy Committee and a resident manager of university family housing. Before pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Ma spent one year as an MBA student at the Yale School of Management with Yale Scholarship Grant and Frederick T. Holliday and Frederick T. Holliday Jr. Memorial Scholarship. He joined Worldco L.L.C., a Wall Street startup financial services firm, immediately after his summer internship at the firm. He worked at Worldco as an NASD (now FINRA) certified equity trader with Series 7, Series 55 and Series 24 licenses from 1998 to 2002. Dr. Ma was a certified International Trade Representative at Henan Machinery Import and Export Corp. in China from 1990 to 1994. He led the company team to win the 1992 Provincial International Trade Knowledge Competition and was named Honor Employee for the achievement. He came to the United States to pursue graduate education in 1995.

Areas of Expertise Dr. Willner specializes in three main areas: sports economics, international trade, and industrial organization. His industrial organization research deals with conglomerate effects in Korea as well as domestic issues associated with legal structures. He teaches courses in a variety of fields including international economics and game theory.
Professional Activities Professor Willner is a member of the American and Southern Economic Associations, Western Economics Association and is a former President of the Southwestern Economics Association. Dr. Willner has spoken at venues in Oklahoma City, numerous locations throughout the United States, Indonesia, China, Argentina, and Singapore. He has taught in numerous countries and done consulting work in Ukraine as well as Oklahoma City. Dr. Flores has published research in the Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Academic Ethics, and Journal of Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issues. Additionally, he has presented his research at numerous regional, national, and international conferences. Dr. Flores and his coauthors received the Distinguished Research Award from the Allied Academies (Academy of Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issues) in 2013 for their research on Neuromarketing Ethics. His work on social factors that influence perceptions of service quality was selected as the recipient of the Jane K. Fenyo Best Paper Award for Student Research at the 2011 Academy of Marketing Science annual conference. Professional Activities: Dr. Howard is a member of the Academy of International Business, the European International Business Academy and the Academy of Management. She has presented refereed papers at major international conferences in both North America and Europe, and her peer-reviewed articles have appeared in U.S.- and European-based academic journals. Professional Activities: Dr. William’s research has been presented in academic and professional meetings in the U.S. and Europe. Areas of Expertise Sue Ann Arnall began her career in the oil industry while in high school. She worked as a landman for a lease broker, researching county records for title. Later, after graduation from law school, she worked for Unit Drilling and Exploration Company, and created and managed its first Natural Gas and Oil Marketing Department. Ms. Arnall also has created and managed natural gas and oil marketing departments for Continental Resources, Inc., where she worked for 17 years. During her work for Continental Resources, she created numerous marketing and transportation opportunities for both oil and gas production, building hundreds of miles of pipeline, rail terminals for transporting crude oil by rail, and exchange agreements with all of the major pipelines and refineries in the U.S. She also managed the hedging and futures trading for the company. While working in the energy industry, Ms. Arnall was active in trade associations, serving on both the board for OIPA, as crude oil committee chair, and the OERB, as treasurer. She helped lead the royalty in kind movement that resulted in the federal government marketing a large portion of its own oil and gas. She was a founding member of Save Domestic Oil, a national organization formed to curb trade violations by foreign national oil companies. Professional Activities Her personal interests include improving animal welfare in Oklahoma, and she was instrumental in passing Oklahoma legislation to regulate puppy mills. She is a member of the Central OK Humane Society and on the steering committee to form a horse rescue program in Oklahoma.

Areas of Expertise Debbie Fleming most recently served as vice president and treasurer of SemGroup Corporation and Rose Rock Midstream in Tulsa. She joined SemGroup in 2010 and was responsible for the refinancing of the company after it emerged from a very public and complex bankruptcy. In 2011, Fleming financed, and assisted in, the initial public offering of Rose Rock Midstream, the company’s MLP, comprised of domestic crude oil storage and marketing assets. She was also responsible for the company’s corporate finance, banking, cash management, and insurance functions. Fleming completed this assignment in February 2012.
Before joining SemGroup, Fleming was vice president and treasurer of OGE Energy Corporation where she was responsible for the corporate finance group encompassing treasury and banking operations, cash forecasting, financial planning, business unit budgeting, investor relations, and pension plan/401-K oversight. Fleming also gained experience as the assistant treasurer and other corporate financial roles during her 18 year career with for Williams. Her primary responsibilities were for the bank and rating agency relationships, all debt and equity product structuring and negotiations, debt compliance, cash flow forecasting, capital markets derivatives and FX decisions along with investments and plan options for the company’s pension and 401-K plans.

Areas of Expertise Gray is currently working at American Eagle Title Group as a real estate title examiner. He previously worked as an oil and gas title examiner in Midland, Texas before deploying to Camp Bucca, Iraq as an Army Officer in 20072008 where he was awarded the Iraqi Campaign Ribbon, The Global War on Terrorism medal, the National Defense Medal with bronze star and several other awards and commendations. Gray previously served state-side during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. After a stint as a military recruiter he returned to Oklahoma and worked as a petroleum land man on projects in Texas and Oklahoma including a billion dollar acquisition and divesture project between Devon Energy and a Japanese Firm. In addition to teaching oil and gas law he has been a requested speaker and commentator on international energy topics especially concerning the Middle East and Mexico. In 2014 he advised a delegation of energy officials from Tanzania concerning Chinese oil and gas investments in Africa and Chinese negotiating strategies tied to their national oil companies and banks. Gray’s first book, I Heard You Were Going on Jihad (Mills Press) describes his experiences in combating terrorism as an information source to the FBI. Areas of Expertise Professor Wegener teaches in the Energy Management, Energy Legal Studies, MBA and BBA programs. The intersection of law, energy and policy serves as the primary foundation of her research agenda. For example, her article, Drilling Down: New York, Hydraulic Fracturing, and the Dormant Commerce Clause, examines the issues surrounding unconventional drilling for shale gas in New York and the national implications as seen through the lens of the United States Constitution. Professor Wegener has made multiple presentations to professional organizations concerning the findings of her research and their policy implications. She has published articles critically analyzing issues in both contracts and torts. She is currently working on research for articles that examine the regulatory, legal and ethical components of the energy industry. Professor Wegener is a graduate of Trinity University and graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and was selected as a member of Order of the Coif. She served as managing editor and founding board member of the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology, and the president of the Board of Advocates. As a lawyer, Professor Wegener went into practice at Gum, Puckett & Mackechnie (formerly Spradling, Alpern & Gum) where her practice entailed commercial litigation, oil and gas, trucking and administrative law litigation, and insurance defense. Professor Wegener obtained her Master of Laws from New York University School of Law where she was a Comfort Scholar and was awarded the Seymour Goldstein Memorial Prize.
