Dear Leaders,

Youth Camp holds a very special place in our hearts. It was over twenty years ago at Oklahoma’s youth camp (Turner Falls) that I was saved and called into ministry as a teenager. Words can’t express the gratitude that I have to those who made camp happen that year. Pastors and volunteers, just like you, came and sacrificed so that my life could be changed. I want you to know we realize that many of you make huge sacrifices to be here. I promise you will not be disappointed. God has shown over the many years of youth camps that He is able to do more in an individual’s life at one week of camp when a student removes the distractions of life and surrenders to God. Part of the reason that’s true is because of your commitment to helping this young generation encounter the Lord.

We hope you will enjoy and embrace the new changes that are being made as well as look forward to continuing to have fun with some of the great traditions that our youth camp has created over the years. We will continue to honor the past, as we celebrate the future of what God wants to do in this young generation.

Have fun this week pursuing God and building relationships with your students. Our team is committed to doing everything we can to make these opportunities doable for you and your young people!

We appreciate you and look forward to an amazing week together!

STAFF DUTIES

*New this year: All staff will remain in the dining center after staff meals to help provide supervision during camper meal time. This is a great opportunity to hang out with your students, see your students from other rooms and connect with your other leaders. Please make sure your students are cleaning up after themselves and taking trays and cups to the correct areas. KP for students is not full service, but just a supplement for trash, dishes, and post-meal cleanup

CABIN DEAN – Dean is the position that helps the Camp Directors and Head Deans carry out some of the overall oversight of the camp process and leadership. Deans are assigned to help oversee 1-2 cabins that they will serve for the week.

Some of the responsibilities of the Dean are:

Evaluating for room checks each morning, helping the room coaches of your cabins with any conflicts/behavior or general questions, helping to oversee the traffic in lobby during an assigned service, helping in concessions at an assigned time, helping to oversee conduct and traffic during an assigned lunch or dinner time, helping to provide supervision at late night events across the campgrounds, and more. More details and schedules will be provided to you at camp.

ROOM COACH – Room Coach is the position with the highest amount of responsibility and interaction with the students. These adults are mostly with the students in their room 24/7 and need to know where their students are at all times.

Some of the responsibilities of a coach are:

Wake up students, oversee room cleaning, making sure your room shows up for Kitchen Patrol at your assigned meal, leading small group talk time, overseeing guidelines and overall behavior of your students, mediating conflicts and conversations in your cabin room, cheering your students on, praying for your students at altar calls, reminding them to see nurse for medications, and overall keeping them on schedule for the week. More details and schedule will be provided to you at camp.

REC ASSISTANT – Rec Assistant is the position that is the most involved with the camp interns and helping the overall function of the recreational activities. These include room v. room games, big color games, open rec activities and late night activities.

Some of the responsibilities of a Rec Assistant are:

Attending meetings every morning with Rec Director to learn the games for the day, refereeing games and scoring, helping to set up and tear down some rec activities, serving the Rec Director and rec team leaders with anything they need, staying positive and encouraging to students and leaders to help them

10

participate and have fun! More details and schedules will be provided to you at camp.

Your Arrival at Camp - During the room talk time on night 1 (5pm-6pm) you will need to fill out your room list to make sure we have the correct names of the campers in your room. The deans will pick up the form sometime on night 1.

Wake Up – Make sure that all of the campers are out of bed in time to make it to the first activities of the day. No campers may be out of their room before 7:45am. Campers are not required to attend breakfast, but all campers must be out of the room, with their belongings for the morning, by 9:00 am.

Room Assessment – Each day the deans will inspect each cabin room. For the preservations and quality of the camp facilities, cleaning your room is mandatory. They will be checking for: clean floors, beds made, clothes put away, wet clothes are hung, bathrooms are clean, etc. See Cleaning guide in your cabin room or in this book for more detail. Please keep the commons area clean and free of trash. (Each room in your cabin will take a turn cleaning the lobby or commons area. See opportunity schedule)

Serving Opportunities - Each room will be assigned one time during the week of camp to help pitch in with cleaning up! This includes Kitchen Patrol (KP) which helps take the trash outside, wiping down tables, and resetting the dining area, or Outdoor/Worship Center clean up which includes picking up trash and straightening chairs. Please make sure you stay with your room while they are serving to make sure they are all present the whole time. (see schedule presented to you by Rec Coordinator)

*New this year: When reporting for KP, before assigned students and staff get their meal, they must report to the Dining Center Coordinator for instructions and receive a KP vest

Guideline Enforcement

• Part of your duties as a staff member are to help us enforce the camp guidelines. It is your responsibility as a coach to oversee that the students in your room comply with the camp dress code. Each morning when the students leave the room and each evening when they head to the service please make sure that your students are modestly dressed. It is up to you as a coach to police your own students, deans will no longer be responsible to enforce the dress code. Please lead and guide your students in this area of modesty. If you need assistance with a student, you may need to find the youth pastor for that student or ask for help from your dean that has been assigned to your cabin.

• No food or drinks of any kind except bottled water are allowed in cabin rooms or the commons area. This is important for us to eliminate the risk of rodents and critters.

Small Group Time – Each afternoon after lunch you and your students have a small group time inside your cabin room. This is the best way for us to make

11

sure that every camper is known and included. It is a great time for you as the coach to encourage your campers to participate in the events of the day and that night’s service. It’s a great time to ask them questions and hear about their lives, and what they are hoping for each day. Whatever you feel is best as a coach, please have the freedom to do that. We will be providing a leader guide with questions to use if you feel you need them. Please do not use this as free time or nap time. We have specifically built times into the schedule for those purposes. Please do not allow your students to go outside of your cabin room during this time as they may be a disruption to other groups. Suggested small group questions can be found at the end of this manual.

FOF (Feet off Floor) - Each afternoon before dinner and your students have time to get showered and dressed for service. This is also a time that can be used for rest. We want our students to be as rested and alert for each night so they can give their best in service, as well as get the most out of it!! This is the absolute epicenter of the purpose for camp… for students to encounter God! The best way for them to do that is to be awake!!! Encourage your students to use this time wisely!

Bible Battle and Reading - Bible reading points will be collected at each morning’s staff meeting, on a pass or fail basis. Each room should read one chapter of Proverbs of your own choosing. Bible Battle questions will be presented this year as a part of the recreational relay race.

Bible Battle questions will cover comprehension and memorization of Romans 12.

Careful Practices and Conversation – Be careful to guide the subjects that are discussed by the campers in your room. There are many topics that are not appropriate for younger campers to hear discussed by older campers. It is your responsibility to make sure that conversational topics are appropriate. Campers need to wear their clothing in the rooms and bathrooms unless they are in the showers. It is not appropriate for campers to be strolling through the rooms unclothed.

Be sure that no pranks are taking place in the cabin room. There are too many “harmless” jokes that can turn into lawsuits if we are not careful with what we allow to happen. This is also true with phone usage. Please remember Campers are not allowed to have or use cell phones at camp. Any use of phones (including the use of any camera, video, streaming, chatting, etc) in areas of dressing like camper rooms, bathrooms, etc. may result in disciplinary or legal action if needed.

For your own protection and to prioritize the safety of every student, you should never be alone with a student, especially in a bathroom or cabin room. If a student needs to have a private conversation, asking another adult to be present, or at the very least, speaking to them in a public space, propping open the door, meeting in the commons, are all preferable alternatives.

Bed Time – While we do not have a set time for the campers to turn the lights out, it is up to the room coach’s discretion as the coach when the students must go to bed unless changed by the Camp Director. However, if your room is up

12

after other rooms have gone to bed, you must be quiet and not disturb the other rooms around you. Once the students have been instructed to go to bed, they must all remain in the cabin rooms. Any camper out of their cabin after bedtime will immediately be sent home from camp. Our security guards patrol the grounds after dark.

CAMP POLICIES

In case of emergency – It is the responsibility of each room coach to know where all their students are, at all times. If a situation should arise during times that you are in your cabin room please contact your cabin dean.

The Camp Nurse is available on-site 24/7. If you need to reach the nurse after hours, please call the phone number listed on the nurse’s door.

In case of an emergency needing additional back up, an emergency communication device which directly contacts security at the gate is available. This is only for use by an adult in a health or security emergency where additional help is needed by our hired security. The emergency communication device will need to be turned on first. You can locate this device in the cabinet above the sink in your cabin lobby. Please do not make your students aware of its existence.

Inclement Weather – If there is inclement weather, we will make decisions based on radar and forecast. We will follow the public school guidelines for lightning, which has everyone indoors until the lightning is more than 10 miles away, for 30 mins. In the case of lightning or hail, all campers and staff will remain in the dorms until instructed otherwise. If it is simply a rain storm, we will continue with our schedule. If there were ever the threat of a tornado, staff and campers will follow severe weather protocol (see cabin bulletin board).

Medication – Campers’ medication must be checked in to camp Nurse at registration. All medicine must be administered by our First Aid staff, no exceptions. This includes over-the-counter and natural remedies such as essential oils. Any medicine expired or not listed on the medical form or sent in weekly dosing containers or bags will not be administered. Camp directors & First Aid staff have the discretion to send anyone home for health or hygiene concerns. This may include but is not limited to concerns about fever, vomiting, diarrhea, COVID 19, lice or nits. Arrangement of transportation home is the responsibility of the Parent/Legal Guardian.

Visitors at Camp – Visitors are not allowed at camp, except credentialed ministers with the Assemblies of God and their spouses. Ministers who hold credentials with the Assemblies of God and their spouses are welcome to visit Camp Cargill. However, ministers still must notify the Camp Office of their intent to visit, so we can notify the Security Guards. We live in a world that requires our diligence to maintain the security of our campers, so we ask that the number of guests that accompany each minister be limited to their spouse.

13

Upon arrival, ministers and their spouses will check-in at the gate and be given a “Visitor Tag.” They will be asked to wait for a member of the Camp Staff to show them where to park. We ask that minister\s access only public areas: Worship Center, Dining Center, The Solid Rock, and the Recreation Area. Cabin access is limited to current occupants only. Visitors are not allowed in cabins.

Cell Phones at Camp – Campers are not allowed to have cell phones at camp. We want them to unplug and get away from it all so they can focus on getting closer to the Lord. We allow the youth leader from each group to enforce this however they see fit, but phones seen out on the camp will be asked to be put away or given to their leaders. If a Camper needs to make a call home, they may do so using the camp office phone or their leader’s phone. Staff Members are asked to not leisurely use their phones in front of Campers. We urge leaders to be aware of the risks that come with students taking photos and videos in the camper rooms and bathrooms. So many harmless jokes can turn into a lawsuit. Harassment or bullying will not be tolerated. The camp will provide storage tubs for you to check out and to use in your rooms if you need them.

Small Group on Day 2

Reflecting on Night 1: (All Camps)

You might be familiar with the Romans Road.. but if you’re not it’s just a really simple way to understand the eternal life that Jesus offers us and why we need Him. Let’s go over this from Romans together.

• Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned. Romans 3:10-12, and 23

• The price (or consequence) of sin is death. Romans 6:23

• Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the price for our death. Romans 5:8

• We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9-10, and 13

• Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God. Romans 5:1, Romans 8:1, Romans 8:38-39

Last night we saw many people surrender their lives to follow Jesus. Some of you here might have made that decision last night either for the very first time or you might have made a decision to recommit your life to Christ.

1. Is there anyone that would like to share about a decision you made last night? Maybe tell about the choice you made and what about the service led you to make that decision?

2. If you already have a relationship with Christ… What was the moment like when you first accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and how has your life changed since then?

3. What are some of the challenges or doubts you have faced as a young person following Jesus, and how has He helped you overcome them in your journey of faith?

4. If there is someone here or someone in your life that is unsure about making the decision to follow Jesus and accept his gift of Salvation, what would be your advice to them?

We’re going to conclude today’s small group time by praying together. We are going to pray for all those who decided to follow Jesus for the first time. If any of you did not make that decision last night, but you would like to accept Jesus into your heart, just wave at me and we can pray with you right now to do that.

Key scripture to memorize:

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

- 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

16

Small Group on Day 3

Reflecting on Night 2: (All Camps)

Last night we heard a call and challenge to continue to turn away from our sin and turn towards God in every area. Let’s read what Paul wrote in Romans 7 and see if any of us can relate to him.

Romans 7: 15-20 (NLT) I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

Most of us have felt that exact way at some point. Last night many students made a commitment to walk away from sin and habits that feed their flesh and that do not feed the Spirit of God within them.

1. Is there anyone that would like to share about a decision you made last night to walk away from something? Maybe tell about the choice you made and what about the service led you to make that decision?

2. What does it mean to deny yourself or deny your flesh? What are some areas of your life (whether a physical thing or within your heart/attitude) where you struggle to do this and resist temptation? How can you rely on God’s strength to help you overcome those struggles?

3. What are some practical steps you can take to intentionally choose righteousness over sin in your daily decisions and actions, and who in your life can hold you accountable to staying on the right path?

Key scripture to memorize:

“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” - Galatians 5:16 NLT

17

Small

Group on Day 4

Reflecting on Night 3 & Preparing for Night 4: (Full week- Camps 3-6 only)

Last night, we saw students responding to a call to move forward in their walk with God by seeking the Holy Spirit. Some students heard God speak to them in a new way and others were filled with the Holy Spirit for the first time.

1. Is there anyone who wants to share if you responded at the service last night?

2. Galatians 5:22-23 says the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. A spiritual gift is GIVEN, but spiritual fruit is GROWN…Which of the fruits of the Holy Spirit do you want to see grow stronger in your own life? How can that fruit help you be a light for God in your world?

3. What are some of the gifts, talents, and passions that God has given you, and how can you use them to serve Him and others?

4. What are some of the ways that God has been speaking to you about your purpose, through His Word, through prayer, or through the circumstances of your life? How can you listen more closely to His voice and follow His leading?

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” - James 1:5
