ust like that, Christmas is nearly upon us again. It’s time to begin thinking about all things festive – from mulled wine and mince pies to delicious dinners and, best of all, gathering together family and friends who we don’t get to see often enough.

Honey Rum Fizz INGREDIENTS

60ml dark rum 40ml cloudy apple juice 60ml prosecco 60ml clear honey Ice Apple slice or mint for garnish (optional) METHOD

1. Combine the honey and 120ml water in a small bowl and stir until dissolved.

2. Combine the rum, apple juice and half the honey mixture into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until cold (around 30 seconds).

3. Strain into a low-ball glass, top with prosecco and garnish with apple and mint.

Spiced Cherry Spritz INGREDIENTS

40ml amaro 85ml lambrusco Cherry soda Ice 1 maraschino cherry (optional) METHOD

1. Pour the amaro and lambrusco into a low-ball glass, over ice.

2. Top with cherry soda and stir to combine.

3. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Mezcal Sour INGREDIENTS

50ml mezcal 1 egg white 40ml lemon juice 1tsp agave syrup Ice Lemon peel and splash of bitters, to garnish METHOD

1. Combine the mezcal, lemon juice, egg white and agave syrup in a cocktail shaker and shake for about 20 seconds, or until the mixture is frothy.

2. Fill the shaker with ice and continue shaking for 30 seconds.

3. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a few dashes of bitters and a strip of lemon peel.

Perfectly Festive with Laura Haddock The British actress teams up with OKA for a Christmas film and shares her secrets for the ultimate celebration What does a typical Christmas day look like for you?

Now, it’s all about the children. We wake up early and run downstairs to see if Father Christmas has been.

Then we open some presents and have breakfast – usually salmon, scrambled eggs, buttery sourdough toast and perhaps a cheeky glass of champers.

We stay in our pyjamas until the afternoon, when we take the dogs for a walk and give mum some muchneeded space in the kitchen. We return, chilly and hungry, just in time for lunch at 4pm.

What do you eat and drink on Christmas Day? We usually drink sherry, champagne and red wine.

For dinner, we’ll have two meats – turkey, beef or roast lamb – along with all the trimmings, swimming in gravy.

Then we’ll have lots of classic puddings; there’s usually a cheese board at some point in the evening, too.

How do you spend a festive night with friends?

A sit-down dinner with drinks on the go, everyone mucking in and making themselves at home. I love having all my best pals together, reminiscing, playing games, lots of laughter and storytelling, all the while gearing up to put the record player on and have a boogie. The night usually ends with someone on the guitar, and everyone having a sing-song.

W

hat do you love most about Christmas?

The food. The drinks. The company. The hustle and bustle of a packed house, blanketed in the smell of whatever’s cooking. I love a mince pie (and Christmas pudding), and probably eat about 350 roast potatoes in three days. Then there’s the Christmas quiz; my mum starts preparing it in September, and it has become a tradition that we both look forward to and giggle at – it takes hours to complete!

How do you decorate your home at Christmas?

I like a natural, tasteful Christmas theme, but I have to give my children something bold and colourful that they can immerse themselves in, too. It becomes a combination of pine, mistletoe, eucalyptus and candles, with a few brightly coloured gaudy baubles and a dancing Santa.
