ndonesia Malaysia Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT – GT) is a subregional cooperation program that intends to develop economic section, since these three countries have strong economic complementarities, strategic location, and some similarities in cultures, languages, and histories. The IMT – GT program includes provinces from three countries, which are 10 Sumatera provinces from Indonesia, 8 northern states from Peninsular Malaysia, and 14 provinces from southern Thailand.

This program has been running since 1993. In order to continue and realization this program, the delegations from three countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, who arrived in Aceh on 2nd of June 2015. They all were welcomed

by Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE. MM at Sultan Iskandar Muda airport. The purpose of their visit is to hold a workshop, which has been starting from 3rd to 4th of June 2015, and takes place at AAC Dayan Dawod, since Aceh is as the host of the program.

The delegations from these three countries would discuss about strategic action plan that can be implemented in order to develop and improve their economic section, since they have some supportive sources. Also, they want to support and cooperate with each other thus they can compete with other countries in economic section.

Courtsey Visit From Kazakhstan Embassy

Rector Syiah Kuala University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, met the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay on May 20, 2015. The meeting also attended by Vice Rector for Academics, Dr. Hizir Sofyan, and Chairman Office of International Affairs, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE, MM. On the meeting, they discussed about possible directions for promoting cooperation between Syiah Kuala University and one of the Kazakhstan’s universities.

Furthermore, Mr. Orazbay delivered a lecture for Unsyiah students about Kazakhstan and educational institution of Kazakhstan. This occasion would be very useful and informative for the students as well as it will provide a right beginning for establishing the cooperation, particularly in educational relation. Once before leaving Syiah Kuala University, the Ambassador also met three of Kazakhstan’s students.

Delegations from Chuang Hua University of Taiwan

Delegations from Chuang Hua University, Taiwan, namely Ta-Jen Chu Ph.D., Professor from Department of Leisure and Recreation Management, and Department of Landscape Architecture, and Chiu-Chi Wei Ph.D., Professor from department of Industrial Engineering and System Management, came to Syiah Kuala University on August 20, 2015.

The delegations were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M.Eng, Rector Syiah Kuala University and accompanied by Vice Rector for Academic, Dr. Hizir and Chairman of OIA, Dr.Iskandarsyah. Before they were welcomed by the rector and OIA CEO, the delegation went to Engineering Faculty in order to meet staffs from the faculty.

This visit was intended to establish the academic cooperation for both, Syiah Kuala and Taiwan Chung Hua University.

The delegations also wanted to promote Taiwan Chung Hua University, thus students from Syiah Kuala University could applied for scholarship or other academic activities.

This kind of visiting hopefully could attract students to be interested.

Syiah Kuala University and UNISZA Join Hand to Collaborate in Academic

elegation of Sultan Zainal Abidin were visit Unsyiah and signed an MOU cooperation between two universities. The MoU singing attended by Unsyiah Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal,M.Eng, Vice Rector III, Dr. Ir. Alfiansyah Yulianur BC, Deputy Chairman of OIA Cut Afrianandra, SE.Ak. M. Bus. Acc, and some lecturers from Social,Politics and Communication Science

Faculty (19/08). The Mou cooperation aimed to have an exchange of students of academic staff between universities, joint research, information and publication exchange and invites each other for seminar or conference. UNISZA also provide scholarship for those who want continue their master or doctoral degree in there.

Agreement Signing Between Syiah Kuala Universiti and Universiti Sains Malaysia

Last week, the Office of International Affairs(OIA) Syiah Kuala University has a visit from the group of dentist from School of Dental Science, University Sains Malaysia. The group consisted of seven lecturers, five junior dentists, eight students, and one staf of USM met the chef of OIA, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE, MM.

They fulfilled the activity by holding an event of MOA signing, which took place at RSGM Syiah Kuala University. Dean of Dentistry Faculty of Syiah Kuala Universtiy, Mr. Zaki Mubarak gave opening remarks to welcome lecturers and students. He also gave light explanation about Dentistry Faculty of Syiah Kuala University. Then a lecturer from Universiti Sains Malaysia, namely Dr. Jazilla Syukri, delivered a speech. She stated that they were really pleased to come to Aceh.

She also explained about School of Dental Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia. One of the agreements is that both universities are going to cooperate in social community service, such as cleft palate surgery in Aceh, especially in remote areas.

Another, these lecturers and students went to an orphanage of Nirmala, located at Lampineung Banda Aceh. They were intended to meet children at orphanage and payed attention to them.

One of lecturers, namely Prof. Dr. EXX Mochamad Arief, told to the children about how to achieve dream for their life, gave light speech about motivation and so on. Continued by some junior dentists, they stated some explanations about how to take care mouth and teeth rightly.

UM Students Conduct An Educational Trip to Syiah Kuala University We are pleased to welcome a number of students from Department of Quantity Surveying of Malaya University, Malaysia. On that occasion, Chairman of OIA, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE,MM warmly welcomed them on Tuesday, May

5, 2015. During their visit, the student not only do a post-disaster reconstruction research project which facilitated by TDMRC, but also they will go to Sabang and Tsunami site. It is hoped that they will have a joyful journey.

Short Visit from Master Business Administration Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

Azwandee bin Ali, delegation of Malaysia National University, gave speech at Graduate School of Management Syiah Kuala University. The delegation included students from the university, today on 31 of August 2015, visited Syiah Kuala University.

They all delightfully were welcomed by Secretary of Management Graduate School, Dr. Amri SE, M. Si, Director of Management Graduate School, Dr. Mukhlis Yunus SE, MS, and Chairman of OIA (Office of International Affairs), Dr. Iskandarsyah SE, MM at Management Graduate School, Syiah Kuala University.

This visit was intended to meet and greet students of Management Graduate School. By holding this kind of short visiting, hopefully could conduct another kind of academic cooperation.

Visit from National Yang-Ming University to Medicine Faculty

Li-Yin Chien, Director of International Health Program from National Yang-Ming University of Taiwan, met Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, MM at the Office of International Affairs Syiah Kuala University on 26 August 2015. This meeting was intended to welcome the director and delegations.

On the previous day, the director and delegations from the International Health Program of National Yang-Ming University attended International Symposium on Public Health which was held at Medicine Faculty of Syiah Kuala University on 25-26 August 2015.

Then, before they returned to Taiwan, Li-Yin Chien presented a presentation about scholarship program and promoted National Yang-Min University at the same time. This meeting could hopefully strengthen up the cooperation between Syiah Kuala University and National Yang-Ming University.

Collaboration HIBEUNA and JISI MIS in Aceh Project 2015 MIS (Multilateral Interaction with Students), the main part of JISI (Japan Indonesian Student Interaction), is a student-led organization from University of Tokyo. This non-profit organization has general purpose, for instance, training students to become the next best generation for the world and hope the students can solve social problem. Furthermore, MIS has connection with some countries, especially from South East countries like Cambodia, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Philippine, and Indonesia.

In this year, in order to operate MIS-JISI program, students from the organization chose and came to Aceh, Indonesia.

They intended to run a project called “Aceh Project 2015”, which was cooperated with association of HIBEUNA (Himpunan Mahasiswa Magister Ilmu Kebencanaan Unsyiah).

The theme of this project was “From Aceh Seed the Future to Lead the World”. The activities were included sightseeing Tsunami sites and Aceh cultures, holding discussions about Rohingya and Bangladesh refugee handling, and the role of youth community in Aceh and Japan, holding Disaster Scount Camp, Mangrove Plantation, and Field trip to Sabang. All activities of “Aceh Project 2015” were scheduled from 18th of August to 25th August 2015.

Cooperation Meeting with Elite Study in Taiwan (ESIT)

Elite Study in Taiwan purpose is to provide service for the higher education cooperation between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries. Director of ESIT, Po Tsang Huang came to Syiah Kuala University which welcomed by Vice Rector for Academic, Dr. Hizir Sofyan on 5th of August 2015.

On this occasion, Coordinator of LPSDM Aceh, Prof. Dr. Said Muhammad, MA, Chairman of OIA Syiah Kuala University, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE, MM and some of Vice Dean for Academic also came to talk about an academic cooperation between Syiah Kuala University and ESIT.

Po Tsang Huang intended to build a cooperation with Syiah Kuala University, especially with faculties, like Communication Science, Marine, and Economic Faculty. The Director also would like to apply academic programs, for instance holding Mandarin Corner at Syiah Kuala library, with purpose it can provide information about ESIT, also holding Mandarin Language courses, that will take place at Language Centre of Unsyiah.

By holding this kind of visit, hopefully students from Syiah Kuala University will enthusiastically join and take this chance, in order to gain some experiences, especially in area of accounting program and studying Taiwan language.

Korean Food Festival 2015

Nowadays, ‘Korea’ becomes popular among youth.

Most of them get fascinatedabout its cultures. No wonder, yesterday, 20/5/2015, many Unsyiah students attended a Korean program namely“Korean Food Taste III”, which took place at AAC Dayan Dawood canteen. In order to promote the Korean cultures, this program filled up with three main activities such as Korean dance performance, Korean corner, and Korean photo booth.

The program was opened with Korean dance performances in whichKorean natives performed Korean modern dance, and the members ofHoukiboshi - a group of Japan and Korea fans, performed the Korean traditional dance. They all danced energetically and made viewers or visitors felt enthusiastic.

Then,there wasalso Korean corner, which provided visitors Korean cultural information. Another, the visitors were also given chance to wear Korean traditional costume, called Hanbok.Also, they could create pleasant memory by taking photo while wearing it at Korean photo booth.

Actually this kind of program, which was supported by OIA Unsyiah, was held for the third time at Unsyiah campus.

FJCU Bringing Coffee into Social Enterprice Program in Syiah Kuala University

Eight students from Fu Jen Catholic University Taiwan, accompanied by Prof. Leemen Lee, visited Syiah Kuala University on last July 2015. This arrival was welcomed by Vice Rector of Syiah Kuala University, Dr. Nazamuddin, SE, MA, and Vice Chairman of OIA (Office of International Affairs), Cut Afrianandra, S.E.Ak, M. Bus (Acc) CA. The purpose of this academic visit was intended to conduct summer camp program which was called “Bringing Coffee into Social Enterprice Program”.

This summer camp program, that started from 28th of July to 18th of August 2015, took three different locations, Takengon, Saree, and Sabang. These students payed attention to Takengon coffee factory, which is a well known place for its coffee, they also spent time at field of coffee plantation.

Then, they held a program called Saree School Camp, which took place at Saree, Aceh Besar, in order to hold a presentation and discussion forum that includes about social economic recovery in Seulawah mountain community, and Social Enterprise. They met and interacted with farmers and youth from Saree. Also, they visited Beng Mawah Office.The students enjoyed their remaining days by taking a trip to Sabang, which is well known to attract tourists by its beautiful views.

At last, they observed the recovery and development of Aceh after Tsunami. They went round Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar, visited Blang Padang, PLTD Apung, Aceh Museum, Jasmine English Education Centre, Rencong Village, Baiturrahman Great Mosque, Indrapatra fortress, and other heritage sites. This such of program hopefully can be conducted by other student universities.

Student’sTalk During stay in Syiah Kuala University, i learnt lots about the culture, life style and people. Since the culture is so different from mine, and I hardly know things about Muslim in Taiwan. As I interact with all people in Unsyiah, specially in OIA, now I know more about Muslim culture and lifestyle. Experiencing the different culture, pay respect and appriciate the differences among us are important things to remember.

Three words for Unsyiah and OIA, warm, friendly, and love.

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Visit Syiah Kuala University

On 19th of June 2015, a group of student from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) attended public lecture which was opened by Chairman of OIA, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, SE, MM. This public lecture took place at Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) building in Ulee Lheue, filled up by three speakers in three sections.

Dr. Husaini Ibrahim, MA, Director of Social and Culture Research Center as the first speaker, told briefly about Aceh history including about the spreading of Islam and the areas defence from colonialist. Based on the lecture given, it can be seen that Aceh and Malaysia have a strength relationship even until now. The speaker also told about “Aceh Lhee Sagoe” or usually called “Lamuri” and it surely related with Malaysia.

In the next section, the course was talking about Tsunami disaster, which devastated the province Aceh on 26th December 2014 and shook the world. Dr. Rina Suryani Oktari as the second speaker discussed about Disaster Risk Reduction. In this discussion, she mentioned about research institution belongs to Syiah Kuala University, called TDMRC and followed by its’ vision and mission.

Further lecturing was about Aceh in tourism program. In this section, the speaker was Ramadhan, M. Buss, he mentioned about tourism program in Aceh after tsunami disaster. He also mentioned about “dark tourism”, a concept of tourism that includes about visiting historical sites and associated with death and tragedy. In other words, this concept has multi functions that can make foreigners interested to visit one place with historical background. For example, the Tsunami Museum building is not just as an evacuation building center and tragedy memorial building, but also as one site that can attract foreigners to visit.

According to this public lecture, the students from IIUM seemed interested and enjoyed this course, it was proven by their enthusiasm in asking questions and information while doing discussion. By knowing briefly about Aceh history, tsunamy tragedy and tourism project in Aceh, this public lecture will hopefully give benefits for the students and others, and also can strenghten up the relationship between Aceh and Malaysia.
