It’s finally my favorite time of year. There’s something magical about the shift in seasons. The weather gets cooler, comfort food makes its return, routines settle in, sports kick off and best of all, the holidays start taking center stage. And the best part is... Chickasha knows how to do fall right.
If you haven’t experienced it yet, our cool little town is home to one of the best events in the state, the Oklahoma Food Truck Championship, part of Rock Island Weekend. It’s a can’t-miss celebration filled with incredible bites, live music, and a vibrant arts festival. My personal favorite? Sampling sweet and savory eats from different trucks while soaking up the energy of the crowd. It’s local flavor at its finest.
And just when you think it can’t get better, Halloween season rolls through with community events like Fright Night and Neewollah. There’s never a dull weekend leading into October’s grand finale.
Whether you’re out enjoying all the fall festivities or just cozying up by the fire, there’s no shortage of ways to fully enjoy the season in Chickasha. This town blends small-town charm with big-city fun in the best way possible and that’s what makes it so special. No stress, just good times.
Enjoy the season!

That’s such a tough one—Chickasha is full of great spots to shop, eat and relax. From boutiques to my favorite nail salon, NailLynn, I enjoy supporting our hometown businesses. If I had to choose just one place that holds a special spot in my heart, it has to be Interurban. It’s been my go-to for nearly a decade and never disappoints.
What makes this place your favorite spot in town?
The food and drinks. Whether I’m meeting friends, celebrating something special or just grabbing a quick bite after a long day, I know I’ll get something delicious. It’s been a staple in my life for almost ten years and I keep going back because it’s consistently that good.
What was your first impression when you visited?

What unique features or qualities does this place have that made it stand out to you?
There’s just something special about the atmosphere at Interurban. It’s casual but elevated and the staff is always friendly. It’s got a real “Cheers” vibe, where everyone knows your name and makes you feel at home. That kind of genuine hospitality is hard to come by, and it’s what keeps me going back.

Ghostly Tales
September/October 2025
We interrupt our regularly scheduled historical accounts to deliver a most extraordinary and spinetingling report. Gather ‘round, dear readers, for we bring you a special segment devoted entirely to ghostly visitations, restless spirits and haunted happenings from the darkest corners of Chickasha.
From shadowy figures gliding silently down forgotten hallways to inexplicable whispers drifting through the midnight air, these tales have been whispered across generation, stories that refuse to fade into the quiet of history.
Proceed with caution, for within these pages you may find yourself chilled to the bone, your mind haunted long after the last candle has burned low. Are these merely fanciful folktales… or is there more lurking in the dark than we dare to imagine?
story from GhostsOfAmerica.com Residents along West Country Club Road whisper about the corner house where the doors never seem to stay shut. Locals claim the spirit within is not malicious, but rather an oddly hospitable presence, fond of opening pantry doors and announcing its arrival with knocks and scratches.
Those who have stayed report the company of an even stranger housemate, a doll whose head and arms move without human touch. “It’s not frightening, exactly,” said one longtime visitor, “but you always feel watched.” Whether the doll belongs to the living or the dead remains a matter of debate.
story from GhostsOfAmerica.com
On a quiet street in Chickasha stands a home with a back bedroom by the carport—an addition, by all appearances, but one with an air colder than the rest of the house. Multiple tenants have refused to sleep there, each citing the same sensation: an unseen presence watching.
One night, a resident awoke to find themselves unable to speak or cry out, as if invisible hands were wrapped around their throat. They silently prayed until the grip relented. A former occupant’s son reportedly shared the same refusal to spend a night in that room, suggesting a long-standing disturbance. The true nature of the back bedroom’s occupant remains unknown.
story from GhostsOfAmerica.com
A quiet neighborhood was once home to a series of unexplained disturbances that spanned nearly a decade. The trouble began on the first night a young family moved into a modest rental house. At midnight, the youngest daughter approached her mother and casually requested that “the boy in my room” be told to leave so she could sleep. There was no boy.
Over the years, objects vanished and reappeared, television channels shifted of their own accord, and a vase once shook violently before crashing to the floor. Paranormal investigators later revealed that the home had been the domain of an elderly woman, said to have returned after her passing. The night before the family moved away, an orb was seen floating in the living room—prompting a scream loud enough to wake the neighbors.
The house was demolished not long after, as if to lay its secrets to rest.
Ghostly Encounters in a Landmark Building
story from The Express Star
For over a century, the building that once housed The Express-Star has been a familiar fixture in Chickasha. Over the decades, it has served as a cotton gin, a bustling railroad depot, a newspaper office and now the Sheriff's Department. But alongside its long history, whispers of strange happenings have lingered—stories of unexplained noises, eerie encounters, and shadows that seem to move on their own.
Determined to separate fact from folklore, the Chickasha Paranormal Research Society (CPRS) took on the case. The founder says there’s little doubt about the building’s ghostly side.
“There’s definitely evidence of an intelligent haunting here,” the founder shared.
Reports include phantom footsteps echoing along the main stairwell when the building is empty, a bathroom door that locked an employee inside for nearly 10 minutes and a chilling incident where a CPRS investigator’s daughter felt a force shove her toward the stairs despite no one being nearby.
During one of their investigations, the team brought in a Geophone, a device that lights up when responding to vibrations or movement. The team said they asked direct questions about whether or not the spirits wanted them there and they seemed to be responsive.
The CPRS had previously explored the building in 2011 and found similar results. Along with the so-called “intelligent haunting,” they said they also encountered signs of a residual haunting, or energy from past events replaying in the present. While sitting on the staircase, investigators heard faint tapping and footsteps. In another moment, the basement door reportedly swung open on its own.
According to the founder of CPRS, ghost hunting is a process that requires patience and repeated visits. It isn't a quick or a one-time event like you may see on TV.
For now, those who work in the building may find its paranormal reputation more fascinating than frightening. With residual hauntings, it's easy to be in an area of activity rather than a true haunting of an individual or place.
story from GhostsOfAmerica.com
It was a warm spring evening when a young girl, eager to try the family’s new couch, looked out the open front door and saw the dark silhouette of an elderly woman. The figure’s voice cut through the night with chilling intent: “Come here, little girl, before I kill you.” The child fainted from fright.
Years later, the girl, now grown, asked her mother about the incident. Her mother admitted that the family’s stepfather had also seen the woman in the hallway of their home. The identity of the threatening figure remains a mystery, but those who have walked Dakota Street after dusk often quicken their steps near the house.
story from Chickasha Residents
When the old Girl Scouts headquarters began its transformation into something new, the work crews expected dust, debris and perhaps a few creaky floorboards. What they didn’t expect was the unmistakable presence of an unseen guest.
On more than one occasion, the owners and workers caught the sharp, distinct aroma of an old-fashioned perfume—an unmistakable scent that spoke of another era. It wasn’t the delicate fragrance of a modern floral blend, but the strong, powdery perfume favored by a generation long gone.
The scent would drift into rooms untouched by renovation, sometimes in the quiet stillness of early morning, sometimes late at night when tools lay idle. It would appear in different corners of the sprawling 15,000-square-foot building, never in the same place twice and never when expected.
There was no open bottle, no source to be found, only that haunting, heavy perfume, lingering in the air as though an elderly woman had just stepped through the door… and then vanished.
