A Derby Theatre Production

With the next general election not too far away we invite young people to think about democracy and what it means to them.

THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE

Participants will be invited on a dramatic journey of discovery during which they will have the opportunity to create their own system of government for a brand new democracy.

Shy Northern lass, Little Voice, spends her time hidden away engrossed in her late father’s record collection and trying to avoid her loud blousy mother, Mari. In her pokey bedroom she’s hiding an astonishing talent for pitch-perfect impersonations of great divas like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey. When Mari’s latest fancyman, talent scout Ray Say, overhears Little Voice’s extraordinary singing, he’s determined to make a star. But can Little Voice overcome her stage-fright and face the bright lights of the local working men’s club... let alone the West End?

This workshop will develop participants’ understanding of: • • • • •

HANSEL & GRETEL Taking stories and fairy tales as a starting point, we use physical drama exercises to inspire and motivate learners to explore their written voice.
