STAND TOGETHER Dr. Didacus Jules Director General
Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States
Many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to nd my way over
Wandering, I am lost
As I travel along the white cli s of Dover…
Many rivers to cross
And it's only my will that keeps me alive
I've been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride — Jimmy Cliff

The Sustainable Development Movement (SDM) was conceptualized early in 2020 by the OECS as a vehicle for disruptive thinking in a challenging new reality.
When we hosted the rst event (the CEO Breakfast) in March 2020, the aspiration was to make it the must attend face-to-face event of the year.
The concurrent crises that have confronted us are challenging all previous assumptions of a life following its traditional “more-of-the-same” pathway.
SDM 2020 created the space for the OECS to bring thought leaders from Government, the public sector, the private sector (entrepreneurs, innovators, investors), academia and civil society to think and act on innovations for sustainable growth and development in SIDS.
Heightened visibility of the work of the OECS Commission. A strong portfolio of new partnerships who all share a passion for disruptive, innovative and resilient approaches to sustainable development. A cadre of 21 SDM Ambassadors – of all ages but all young at heart; from both the English and the French Caribbean. All have been propelled by their passion on some dimension of sustainable development. The SDM Ambassadors organized 40 webinars on the most diverse range of topics and beyond the SDM 2020, they have continued to fuel that passion and fan the ames of disruption and innovation with even greater intensity. The pandemic necessitated an urgent pivot from face-to-face to totally online interaction, but this also created unprecedented opportunity for us to extend the reach of the Movement beyond our geography to a global audience. The Sustainable Development Movement 2021 as the second edition of the SDM seeks to build a bit higher on the platform that was constructed by aligning its themes to critical areas of work in the regional integration agenda of the OECS and by broadening the circle of engagement for accelerating that agenda. Over this two day highlight we will bring to the table some new thought leaders as well as some prominent familiar faces to dive deeper into some key areas such as human development, health, environment, economy, and youth. It is clear from the deleterious impact of the concurrent crises that have battered us, that disruption, innovation, and agility are the necessary ingredients of any sustainable solution. Over the two highpoint days - Sept 22 and 23, we will therefore focus on: Digital transformation as an enabler of regional integration Technology innovations that have been developed in the region Demonstrations of the imaginative impulse of OECS Creatives as an indication of the potential of the Orange Economy The exploration of opportunities for nancing sustainable energy transition

With SDM2021 we seek to build on the legacy opportunities created by SDM2020 and there are many seeds that need to be planted so that we can reap the harvest of these two initiatives. The legacy of SDM2020 included:
The nancing of MSMEs and the fueling of new growth sectors Modelling innovation for Sustainable Tourism Digital health & resilient health systems Social inclusion with spotlight on gender and persons with disabilities Youth innovations in multi-sectoral spaces Education for tomorrow Addressing childhood violence and trauma
Mounting the SDM2021 has been particularly challenging because of the multiple, successive hurdles that life has thrown in our path. As Jimmy Cli lamented we have had “Many rivers to cross … and its only [our] will that keeps me alive..” But we have found a way to cross over and although we have been “buried alive” we are “still breathing, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring but we got a feeling…” we got a vision.. and we got determination.
Welcome
TO SDM 2021

by Victoria Elisabeth What if we become more than what we think we are? The support I offer to organizations is based on fun and original methods. It is a powerful way to rebuild trust among colleagues. It is also a way of strengthening work teams and making them more harmonious and efficient. Organizations are spaces for life and exchanges that can be reinvented.
I lead learning communities with managers, students or enthusiasts on different subjects. The objective is to promote the dynamics of sharing, attention and collective performance
