OCEM - Company Profile - English

Page 1

With more than a century of experience in medium-heavy metal structural work, over the last 30 years Ocem has gained a leading role internationally in the construction of complex steel structures for industrial use and major works.

We are specialised in the processing, cutting and assembly of tubes measuring up to 1 metre in diameter and 12 metres in length: this is why we are one of the most sought-after suppliers in the amusement rides sector, especially among roller coaster manufacturers.

Our staff is highly specialised, and strict quality controls are applied to every stage of production.

We supply our customers with excellent products at the highest possible level, helping contribute to their successes. Backed by our skills and experience, we currently work with the main players in the sector, both nationally and internationally.

Our company mission is to support our customers right from the design stage, supporting them with the technologies and skills needed to place innovative and highly competitive products on the market.

Exploiting our know-how acquired in the field, for several years now we have been offering a revamping service for rides that

are obsolete or have reached the end of their operating life. This service is intended for park owners who want to renovate their rides in terms of aesthetics or safety, and for relocations.

We offer solutions ranging from COMPLETE REVAMPING to PARTIAL REVAMPING. In the former case, the ride’s structure is completely redesigned and rebuilt based on the new location and the space available. In the latter case, the construction is restructured and improved, removing and replacing any parts that are worn or no longer compliant with the latest safety standards. Our dedicated team of engineers and assembly technicians handles every stage in the process: inspections, surveys, design, risk analysis, construction, installation and final certification.

Our sites are located in Padova province, specifically in Este (our historical headquarters) and the new site in Monselice. With the acquisition of this new site, the company’s facilities now cover a total area of approximately 40,000 sq.m, with 10,000 sq.m indoors, thus ensuring a higher production capacity. The company employs around 60 people, 40 of whom are skilled assembly and welding operators.

Ocem since its foundation has been managed by the Marchetti family, now in the second generation.

Ocem offers its experience and technical expertise to its customers from the very first stages of project development.

Our team can support every customer request, analysing the best execution and construction solutions using calculation and 3D modelling software.

In our extensive history, we have built large steel structures for various industrial sectors. In the last few decades specifically, we have specialised in the amusement parks, oil & gas and food industries, as well as both major public and private works.

The first operational stage is the control, approval and preparation of the materials in accordance with the most stringent quality procedures.

This stage is fundamental in the construction of any type of structure, as the conformity and traceability of the materials (both qualitatively and quantitatively) are the starting point in a production process that ensures we supply products that are durable and safe.

The finished work is always certified at the end of each stage. Only then is the material ready to move on to the next stage.

Our MPC350/SPC1000 is a 3D tube profiling machine that uses the plasma or oxy-fuel cutting technique.

The machine receives the data in CAD/STEP format directly from the 3D software and can cut round, square or rectangular tubes. It is able to cut all the required shapes simply, quickly and precisely. The machine also produces all the chamfers needed for subsequent assembly and welding.

The oxy-fuel cutting process uses an acetylene flame and a jet of pure oxygen. It is based on the principle that ferrous materials containing a sufficient quantity of carbon, when heated until incandescent, burn in an oxygen-rich atmosphere: the iron oxidises in a highly exothermic chemical reaction. The oxy-fuel process can only be used with steels that have a 0.12%-0.25% carbon content.

Maximum wall thickness: 70 mm

Cutting angle: -70° to 70°

Plasma cutting uses a plasma torch: the gas is blown at high pressure, creating an electrical arc between an electrode and the surface being cut that transforms the gas into plasma. The plasma transfers heat to the material until it melts. The kinetic energy of the gas expels the molten metal from the cutting area, thus allowing the operation to continue. The plasma moves at over 15,000 km/h (more than 12 times the speed of sound).

CONSTRUCTION AND ASSEMBLY. In our large production facilities we are able to assemble all types of structures in a linear sequence, from sub-assemblies to the complete final assembly, before subsequent welding. The possibility to complete full or partial assemblies on multiform constructions allows better and more accurate inspection of tolerances and any deformations.

WELDING. We are especially proud of the quality of our welding procedures. These have continued to improve over the years, requiring in-depth knowledge of the shrinkage and deformation processes of metal structures. Our staff is qualified in all welding processes, with licenses certified by notified bodies.

NDT. We can carry out all types of NDT (non-destructive testing) on the welds. Based on specific customer requests, we use techniques including ultrasound, magnetic particle testing, penetrating liquids, X-rays, or simply certified visual inspection.

MACHINING, PAINTING, GALVANISING, TESTING. Where requested, we also manage the machining, painting, galvanising and final testing stages. We also complete the assembly by adding all the mechanical parts for the electrical and plumbing systems to the constructions.

PACKING AND SHIPPING. Finally, we handle all the shipping procedures for delivery to the customer.

This stage requires specific expertise in logistics and customs procedures. Indeed, it is not simply a matter of guaranteeing safe transport, but also involves providing consulting on special and multimodal transport in EU and non-EU countries, with complex customs regulatory implications.

Rollercoasters are structures with extremely complex three-dimensional geometries. These constructions are subjected to fatigue by masses moving at high speeds. It is precisely for this reason that Ocem has over the years perfected the dimensional testing processes, and has designed specific equipment to guarantee the safety and smoothness of the tracks.

Some of these rides are transportable, and therefore frequently need to be assembled and disassembled: many more checks are thus needed, and the welding procedures require even more attention, above all because some tracks have particularly tight curvatures to allow compactness and transportability.

We assemble the structures in our facilities and then carry out mechanical testing, so as to ensure the cars run smoothly and without even the slightest vibration.
