David Nydegger, Chamber CEO, Retires after 18 years David L. Nydegger, a resident of Southern California since he was an infant, has had a lifelong commitment to academic development and public service. After attending the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, he went on to graduate from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis with a Bachelor of Science degree, later earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He was married for 46 years to the love of his life Diane Kwolik and together they had two daughters, Kinley and Abrey. After service in the US Navy, including 2 tours in Vietnam, David moved back home to Oceanside and worked in the newspaper industry for more than 17 years, eventually becoming the publisher of the Daily Sun Post newspaper in San Clemente. After leaving newspaper publishing, he has been a leader in the chamber of commerce industry for more than 20 years, starting as CEO of the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce. In 1998, he became the President and CEO of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce which supports 650 members. One of his career highlights was producing the “Defenders of Freedom Parade” in Oceanside in 2003 where 12,000 Marines and Sailors from the First Marine Expeditionary Force (1MEF) marched through Oceanside. It was the largest military parade in the US since WWll. David also spearheaded “Operation Appreciation”, a military event that honors active-duty military and their dependents each Armed Forces Day. A 1999 graduate of the US Chamber Institute for Organization Management at UCLA, David was named by the Western Association of Chamber Executives as an A.C.E. Accredited Chamber Executive in 2000 and re-accredited in 2005 and 2010. He also served as the President of the Southern California Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (SCACCE), the President of the North County Chamber Association of San Diego County and served on the board of (WACE) the Western Association of Chamber Executives. In addition to his Chamber duties, David was an adjunct instructor in business and marketing at MiraCosta College for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed by the Chamber staff, Board of Directors and Chamber members. David is looking forward to retirement and spending more time with his daughters and four grandchildren. While he has plans to travel extensively, Oceanside will remain his home.
