Chamber Member Spotlight: Marcy Browe Photography

When Marcy Browe moved from Venice Beach to Oceanside in 2014 she had just left a career in high tech marketing and decided to turn her passion for photographing people into a full time job. Marcy’s grandfather was a professional photographer who started his business in the 1940s in Pittsburgh, PA. The love of photography was passed down to her and she learned the craft using his cameras. At first she considered photography a hobby and didn’t intend to make a living out of it. She graduated college with a degree in advertising and had a career in corporate marketing. After 15 years in a fast paced industry, she was burned out and started dreaming of starting a photography business. She finally had the chance to make this dream a reality when she left her corporate career and moved to Oceanside. Marcy uses her background in marketing to offer branding photography to business owners and corporations, who need photos to market themselves. “People come to me when they’re ready to expand, re-brand or promote their business, so I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many incredible business owners throughout North County.” The first few years in business Marcy worked out of her home, but her photography business quickly grew and she now has a photo studio in Oceanside. She credits the growth of her photography business to actively networking and consistently engaging with North County’s thriving business community. “There is very strong support for business owners here in Oceanside. I moved here without a network, so the first organization I joined was the Oceanside Chamber.” In addition to networking, Marcy became involved in the community by joining multiple networking organizations and serving on several board of directors, including for the Milestone House, a home for foster teens in Oceanside. With a passion for sustainability, building an ecofriendly business was a priority from day one. Marcy worked with the Oceanside Green Business Network and the California Green Business Network to become a green-certified business. Her commitment to environmental stewardship includes giving a portion or her proceeds to environmentally focused organizations and working with sustainable vendors. During the early months of the COVID pandemic, Marcy was among many business owners who saw their business come to a halt. “It was a really scary,

stressful time to navigate. I was truly worried that I would lose my business. Being able to tap into my business network was crucial for me while I was navigating the confusing process of applying for financial aid and for surviving the emotional rollercoaster of running a business during a pandemic.” It didn’t take long for Marcy’s business to recover from the setbacks of the pandemic. “Because I had a strong marketing background, I leaned into this skill set in order to stay visible and keep my focus on attracting my ideal clients.” In 2022, Marcy brought on two team members, which she credits for helping the growth of her photography business. “For years, I was doing everything myself and working really long hours and eventually that became unsustainable. I knew I needed help in order to keep my business healthy and achieve the goals I had.” Marcy and her husband live in Oceanside and when she’s not working she can be found surfing, mountain biking or attending yoga classes.
