Military spouses and women were disproportionately impacted by the Pandemic, with many forced out of the workplace. Many women desire to make a career pivot. The National Veterans Chamber of Commerce, SCORE Mentors, and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce have responded to this call to action by hosting the fourth cohort of its free business incubator program, this one focusing solely on social media. The Women Entrepreneur Incubator program, which launches Sept. 22 from 2:30-4 p.m. via Zoom, is helping to train entrepreneurs to develop their part-time or full-time social media businesses. The three organizations are providing training, technical assistance, mentorship, peer-to-peer support, and financial information. “Our aim is that the women entrepreneurs will learn how to be ‘Pandemic’, ‘Recession’ proof, and ‘Portable’ by investing in themselves,” says the Chamber’s workforce development coordinator, Victoria Carlborg. “Every business can use social media assistance, so this is a reliable career tract for women who desire to establish a home-based business.” An added benefit of the incubator is that each entrepreneur will receive in-person internship opportunities, mentoring and coaching at the Oceanside Chamber’s office following the online training sessions. On Sept. 20th from 8-9:30 a.m., the Oceanside Chamber will kick off its Rising Star Student of the Month program for the 2022-23 school year. The event will take place at the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center, 3306 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside.

The program, in its second year, aims to champion students who have overcome significant challenges in their lives, but have managed to keep, or get back on track with their education. The Chamber honors a high school senior from each of our area high schools at the monthly breakfast events. Each Rising Star is eligible for mentoring and leadership training to help them prepare for higher education and the workplace with services provided by Chamber members. Last year, due to the generosity of our scholarship sponsors Genentech and Tri-City Medical Center, the Oceanside Chamber foundation was able to provide 11 deserving Rising Star students a total of $23,000 in scholarships.
