Arizona is home to a generous community of givers, and every year, individuals and families support causes that matter— from helping vulnerable children to protecting animals or supporting education. With more than 21,000 registered nonprofits across the state, there’s no shortage of ways to give back and make a meaningful impact.
But with so many options, it’s natural to want reassurance that your donation is going to the right place—and making a real difference.
That’s where Good Deeds Guide comes in. Our goal is to connect you with the organizations working hard to make our communities stronger. The groups featured in this guide include a wide range of charitable organizations—traditional 501(c)(3) nonprofits,
Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCOs), Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Organizations (QFCOs), School Tuition Organizations (STOs), and Public School Tax Credit (PSTC) recipients. Each meets state and/or federal criteria for charitable giving and, in many cases, offers tax credit opportunities for Arizona donors.
While we’re proud of the organizations included, we also believe in equipping donors with tools to feel confident in their giving. A reputable organization should be transparent about its mission, leadership, and programs. Most nonprofits share this information on their websites or printed materials. If it’s unclear, don’t hesitate to reach out—strong organizations welcome conversations with potential supporters.
You can also explore tools like Charity Navigator and GuideStar by Candid. These platforms help you learn more about a nonprofit’s structure, leadership, and overall impact. Not every organization will appear on these sites—especially smaller or newer ones—but they’re a great starting point.
Strong nonprofits can also show the results of their work—how many families they’ve served, scholarships awarded, animals rescued, or meals provided. These stories
and data points offer a clear picture of how your donation helps make change happen.
At the end of the day, giving is personal. The best organizations are the ones that align with your values and inspire you to be part of something bigger. When you give from the heart— and with a little informed research—you maximize your impact and feel confident in your contribution.
While Good Deeds Guide cannot oversee the daily operations of every organization featured, we’ve ensured each group meets the necessary criteria for inclusion. We believe in their work, and we’re honored to highlight the good they do in our communities.
When you give thoughtfully, you give powerfully. Thank you for making a difference.
Welcome to the fourth edition of Good Deeds Guide—a labor of love born from our deep appreciation for the organizations that work tirelessly to make Arizona a better place.
Each spring and fall, we are honored to bring you this guide, showcasing the heart of our community—our local nonprofits. These are the changemakers, the caretakers, the dreamers, and the doers. They feed the hungry, shelter the vulnerable, educate the underserved, rescue animals, protect the environment, and so much more. And while their missions may differ, their purpose is united: to make a difference.
We’re incredibly proud to have a platform that not only shares their stories but helps amplify their voices. Behind every logo and mission statement is a team of passionate people working long hours, often with limited resources, to serve others. It is our privilege to shine a light on them, to help them connect with new supporters, and to encourage you— our readers—to find a cause that speaks to your heart.
This edition is especially meaningful as we approach Arizona Gives Day on April 1—a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together for good.
Arizona Gives Day is a 24-hour statewide movement that inspires people to give generously to nonprofits doing important work in every corner of our state. Since its inception in 2013, Arizona Gives has raised over $47 million for more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations. That’s not just a number—it’s food on tables, shelter for families, access to
education, life-saving medical care, safe spaces for youth, and resources for those in need.
Each year, this event serves as a rallying cry—a moment when individuals, businesses, and communities come together to say, “We see you. We believe in your work. And we want to help.”
While Arizona Gives Day is a major moment in the fundraising calendar, supporting nonprofits doesn’t need to be a once-ayear gesture. These organizations operate year-round, and their needs don’t disappear when the calendar turns. In fact, after the excitement of giving days has passed, many nonprofits still struggle to meet their monthly and seasonal goals. That’s why ongoing support—through donations, volunteering, in-kind gifts, or even just helping spread the word—is so vital.
At Good Deeds Guide, we believe in making giving more accessible, more personal, and more meaningful. Whether you’re passionate about education, animals, the arts, the environment, healthcare, or social justice, there’s an organization in these pages doing the kind of work that aligns with your values. You’ll find real stories, real needs, and real opportunities to get involved in ways that fit your life and your budget.
Supporting a nonprofit doesn’t always require a large donation. Sometimes, the most powerful impact comes from small, consistent actions—sharing a post on social media, attending a local fundraiser, or introducing a cause to a friend who might be inspired to give. Philanthropy is not just for the wealthy. It’s for all of us. And together, our collective efforts can create lasting change.
We started this guide because we believe in the power of community. We believe that good people want to do good things—they just need to know where to start. So consider this your invitation. Take some time with these pages. Learn about the incredible organizations featured here. Reach out to one that resonates with you. Ask how you can help. You never know—your small act of kindness might be the spark that lights someone else’s path.
To the nonprofits who trusted us with your stories—thank you. You inspire us daily with your resilience, compassion, and commitment to service. To our readers—thank you for being open-hearted and curious. Your willingness to learn, give, and get involved makes this community stronger.
Together, we can continue to build a culture of generosity, where good deeds ripple far beyond what we can see.
With gratitude, Natasha and Brian Beal Publishers

in Arizona fed weekly by our Stove to Table program.
13,000 MEALS served in the last year
Providing low-income seniors in the Valley with access to fresh, healthy meals
Advance Community is building promising futures and creating new opportunities by supporting optimal health in under-resourced communities.
Each week, the Stove to Table program delivers more than 350 fresh, nutritious, homemade meals to seniors living in low-income housing across Maricopa County. Meals are prepared in-house by dedicated staff and volunteers using fresh, local ingredients and delivered directly to seniors' doors.
Each hot meal includes a clear ingredient label, helping seniors better understand how to incorporate healthy foods into their daily lives. Through the Stove to Table program, Advance Community empowers seniors to make informed, positive choices for their health—one meal at a time.
Advance Community is a 501(c)(3) and is designated by the state of Arizona as a Qualified Charitable Organization. Donors receive a dollar for dollar tax credit for donations up to $470 for individual filings and $938 for joint filings on their state income tax returns. QCO #22188.
Advance Community has a long, rich history of fostering optimal health and wellness in under-resourced communities. Since 2000, the organization’s domestic health literacy programs have empowered thousands of Latino individuals across Arizona to improve their health—regardless of zip code or economic circumstance. Many seniors served through Advance Community’s programs live in food deserts, with limited access to fresh produce and few affordable, healthy food options. Most lack reliable transportation to grocery stores or farmers markets. For those in their 70s and 80s, physical limitations make cooking increasingly difficult, so the nutritious meals provided by Advance Community ease the burden of daily meal preparation and support independence at home. Many participants also face social isolation due to limited mobility and vulnerability to illness, making consistent connection and care all the more essential.
Through the Stove to Table Program, Advance Community delivers not only healthy meals, but also vital information about food and nutrition to low-income seniors— helping them live the healthiest, most independent lives possible. Each week, fresh, homemade meals are prepared by staff and volunteers using locally grown ingredients, then packaged and delivered directly to the doors of seniors living in low-income housing across Maricopa County. With support from generous donors and those utilizing the Arizona Tax Credit, the program now serves more than 13,000 meals each year.
The impact of this work is best illustrated by the stories of those served—like Lucia, who first connected with Advance Community during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, the organization was delivering hand sanitizer, masks, cleaning supplies, and food bags. Feeling isolated and overwhelmed, Lucia found hope in a knock at her door. After connecting with a team member, she enrolled in the Stove to Table meal delivery program. “It’s just so amazing that they’re willing to share with us and give us something to look forward to,” she says. On a recent visit to Advance’s kitchen, Lucia reflected on the team’s dedication: “Seeing a group of people I’ve never met work like this for my health—it gives us seniors hope.”

When Scott McKenzie was burned on 50 percent of his body in a fuel tank explosion at just 10-years-old, he immediately began asking questions. Is my face burned? What am I going to look like? Are people going to make fun of me? As the severity of his injuries began to sink in, Scott’s family didn’t feel prepared for the road ahead. But who could? That’s when the McKenzie family, leaning on support of family and friends, discovered the Arizona Burn Foundation (ABF), a nonprofit organization that improves the quality of life for burn survivors and their families in Arizona, while promoting burn prevention advocacy and education. When a person suffers a burn injury, they rely on medical professionals, emotional support staff, families, and friends. ABF brings all parties together to offer compassionate services through a comprehensive continuum of care - a model of care that has been serving Arizona since 1967. ABF provides survivors and their families with emotional support, financial assistance in the form of lodging, transportation and meal vouchers, and opportunities to take part in developmental programs and social gatherings where they can connect with others who have faced similar injuries.
Moreover, ABF recognizes that burn and fire safety starts with prevention and education. Through its signature programs – Community Smoke Alarm Program and Milo & Moxie Smart Safety Ranger Program™ –ABF is bringing about positive and proactive change. A working smoke alarm can be the difference between life and death for a vulnerable resident. ABF partners with local fire departments, volunteers, and the America Red Cross to install smoke alarms in residences across the state. One of the fastest-growing programs is ABF’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Smoke Alarm Program, which installs specialized smoke alarms. Additionally, ABF’s Milo & Moxie Smart Safety Ranger Program™ teaches child-friendly burn prevention and fire safety education to children in our schools. ABF is grateful to our community for the direct impact their donations have on the burn community and for sustaining the critical services and programs that the Arizona Burn Foundation provides throughout Arizona.

Gesher was founded in 1985 to meet the special needs of children and adults with disabilities who were unable to participate in typical activities of Jewish life in greater Phoenix. The original programs were for special education assistance and summer camp inclusion. These were followed by support groups for parents, grandparents and siblings, an active disability awareness outreach program, information and referral services, and sign language interpreters in Jewish settings. Over the years, the agency added social groups and continuing Jewish studies for teens and adults with moderate to severe disabilities, educational forums on disability related topics and two supervised Jewish homes for adults with disabilities. A monthly “no shush” service called Simchat Shabbat was added to the program list and won the Belle Latchman Community Service Award in 2008. In 2015, the agency was accepted as a Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO) for the state of Arizona’s tax credit program. The agency changed its name in 2017 to Gesher Disability Resources, to reflect more accurately who they are today. Gesher is the Hebrew word for “bridge”, and while their roots are culturally Jewish, all are welcome at events to participate, learn, and have fun.
Gesher members love being out in the community participating in activities like bowling, swimming, and visiting the zoo, all of which become affordable thanks to tax credit dollars. The agency’s education team provides direct services to over 120 students who have learning challenges each school year and tax credit dollars subsidize the fees. Safe, affordable housing continues to be a need in the community and tax credit dollars are helping to expand Gesher’s residential program which provides homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Combating the nearly 80% unemployment rate in the disability community happens when organizations hire a professional speaker who lives with a disability through Damon Brooks & Associates, a subsidiary of Gesher Disability Resources. Serving the disability community is their passion and through programs and services led by Gesher professionals, they impact over 4,000 individuals throughout Arizona each year. Their vision is to create bridges to bring all communities together – please join them!

Military Assistance Mission (MAM) has been steadfast in its mission to support Arizona’s active duty military personnel, rank E5 and below, their families, and post-9/11 recipients of Purple Heart Certificates or Combat Action Badges since its inception in 2012. Through a range of programs and initiatives, MAM aims to provide essential assistance and morale-boosting activities to those in need. The organization’s Basic Needs program offers critical financial support to service members, assisting with rent, mortgage payments, auto-related expenses, utilities, and food costs. This program alleviates the financial strain faced by many military families and ensures they can meet their basic needs without undue hardship.
In addition to addressing financial challenges, MAM’s scholarship assistance program provides valuable support to service members pursuing higher education. By covering tuition fees, parking costs, and textbook expenses, this program removes barriers to educational advancement and empowers military personnel to reach their academic goals. MAM also organizes morale-boosting events and initiatives to lift the spirits of military families. The Baby Bundle Bash celebrates expectant parents by providing them with essential items for their newborns, fostering a sense of community and support among attendees. Operation Holiday Giving, another flagship program, spreads joy during the holiday season by providing gifts for children and teenagers from military families. This festive event features activities like photos with Santa, bounce houses, and complimentary food, creating cherished memories for all involved.
Furthermore, MAM’s ticket program offers military members the opportunity to enjoy recreational activities and entertainment at no cost. Through donated tickets, service members can access cultural events, sporting games, and other leisure activities, providing much-needed respite from the demands of military life. Overall, the Military Assistance Mission’s comprehensive approach to supporting Arizona’s military community encompasses financial assistance, educational support, and morale-boosting initiatives. By addressing the diverse needs of service members and their families, MAM remains a vital resource and source of support for those who serve our country.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to play baseball. That is the motto of the Miracle League of Arizona, a nonprofit that provides a safe, fun, and successful baseball experience for individuals with disabilities. Their organization serves over 300 individuals, believing they all deserve a major league experience, regardless of any mental, physical, or health-related challenges they may face. Players receive personalized jerseys and baseball cards, get to choose their own walk-up music and participate in a stadium built specifically for the special needs population. Founded in 2006, the founders realized there was a need for such an opportunity for this often-isolated group of people. They needed a place where they could go to get out and run around, be part of a team, socialize, and be included in the fun of a game. It took several years of construction and planning, but they officially opened their gates for the first time in March 2011. What started as 20 athletes playing one game on a Saturday has turned into over 300 athletes playing four days a week, year-round.
Players are assigned to teams based on their age and skill level. Each player is catered to based on their capabilities. Some players hit off a tee, others take live pitches, while others use adaptive equipment that swings the bat for them. Players are encouraged to do as much as they can on their own, but Miracle League’s team is there to help with the rest.
A significant component of the league program is friendship. Each player gets paired up with a one-on-one volunteer to be their friend and help them succeed in the game. From hand-over-hand assistance to words of encouragement and high fives, volunteers add a fun and social element to the experience. Starting at the age of 10, these volunteers called buddies come from all walks of life, ages, and parts of the Valley to give their time to the players.

Nourish Phoenix (NourishPHX) is a trusted community hub serving vulnerable individuals and families by offering resources to satisfy immediate needs and provide pathways to self-sufficiency. The organization has been serving the Phoenix community since 1983, but over the past several years, has transitioned from a transactional food and clothing pantry into a hub of community resources with the goal of bringing economic independence to its clients.
With every meal served, every item of clothing collected, and every class taught at NourishPHX, the organization encourages hope and offers relief to people whose incomes are below the federal poverty threshold. NourishPHX stands out from other food pantries and community resource centers as their goal is to not only provide food for those who need it, but to also provide nutrition and sustenance. Through NourishPHX’s food box program, those facing food insecurity can pick up a nutritionally balanced box of fresh items, reassuring them that they can prepare a satisfying meal for their family.
NourishPHX is partnered with more than 30 organizations that help offer new programs and peripheral services like haircuts, veterinary care, financial education, cultural connections, yoga classes, vaccines and health screenings – all free and all on-site for easy access. While most food pantries measure their outcomes in terms of pounds of food or clothing, NourishPHX’s mission goes beyond this, by tracking the number of people who find social connections, economic relief and emotional support through programs and services provided. The organization hosts more than 1,200 program participants annually.
NourishPHX currently serves more than 300 families daily with emergency needs. They believe that no matter the situation, every individual should hold on to their hope and dignity when facing life’s adversities. Volunteers, in-kind gifts of clothing and food as well as monetary donations are always welcome. Website: nourishphx.org

Soldier’s Best Friend provides U.S. military veterans living with combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) with service or therapeutic companion dogs, most of which are rescued from local shelters. Helping the veteran and dog train together builds a trusting relationship that touches two lives at once and inspires countless others.
Their dedication to pairing and training service dogs with veterans - at no cost to the veteran - is making a positive impact on the pet overpopulation problem.
“My experience with Soldier’s Best Friend has been life-changing,” says veteran Ric, who was matched with his new best friend, Wilfred. “Coping with civilian life has become more manageable. I often imagine how simple life is for my buddy Wilfred: it keeps it all in perspective. When things get too much, my buddy is there. From the restless nights to the difficult situations, I have something that has been an elusive possibility - I have hope again. I consider myself fortunate to have had this opportunity. Having this service animal has given me both an outlet for coping, and restored much of my confidence. Thanks to Soldier’s Best Friend and the generous donors who made this all possible.” Financial assistance aside, there are also a wide range of volunteer opportunities including fostering a dog for 4-5 weeks before it is placed with a veteran. Their annual fundraising events including the Sporting Clay Event in March and the Golf Tournament in November rely heavily on volunteers.
Soldier’s Best Friend is an Arizona Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO). This means individuals will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on their Arizona state return. Please consider supporting them and their life-saving programs.
In a heartwarming ceremony held in January, the Soldier’s Best Friend program celebrated a recordbreaking graduation, honoring 17 service dogs trained to assist military veterans. This milestone underscores the program’s dual mission: supporting veterans and providing shelter dogs with loving homes.
Established to address the challenges faced by veterans, particularly those coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), ‘Soldier’s Best Friend’ pairs them with rescue dogs. These dogs undergo rigorous training to become certified service animals, offering both companionship and therapeutic support.
The recent graduation not only marked the largest class in the program’s history but also highlighted the profound bond formed between the veterans and their canine partners. Each duo shared stories of mutual healing and growth, illustrating the transformative power of the human-animal connection. One veteran recounted how his service dog provid-
ed a renewed sense of purpose and stability, helping him navigate daily challenges and reintegrate into civilian life. Another shared that the unconditional love and support from his canine companion played a pivotal role in his recovery journey.
The program’s success is also a testament to the potential of shelter dogs. Many of these animals come from backgrounds of neglect or abandonment.
Through ‘Soldier’s Best Friend,’ they not only find forever homes but also embark on a meaningful path that enriches both their lives and those of their veteran partners.
Training involves months of dedicated work, focusing on tasks tailored to the specific needs of each veteran. This personalized approach ensures that both the dog and the veteran are well-prepared to support each other, fostering a symbiotic relationship built on trust and understanding. The program’s impact extends beyond individual partnerships. By raising awareness about the therapeutic benefits of service dogs, ‘Soldier’s Best
Friend’ advocates for alternative treatments for PTSD and TBI. Their work encourages communities to recognize and support the unique challenges faced by veterans.
As the ceremony concluded, the 17 new service dog teams embarked on their shared journeys, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the enduring bond between humans and animals. The success of this graduating class serves as an inspiring reminder of the healing power of companionship and the remarkable outcomes achievable when compassion drives action.
For more than 73 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona (UCP) has not only served people with cerebral palsy but also provided services for children and adults with a wide array of disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome, developmental delays, motor disorders and more. The nonprofit organization provides services like physical, occupational and feeding therapy to children as young as five months old. UCP empowers independence and inclusion for all through the lifespan services, including pediatric therapy, an early learning center, home and community-based services, ArizonAbility adult day program and a family support services program. UCP helps individuals and families build invaluable skills and abilities to live a life without limits.
In 2025, UCP’s Downtown East facility, located on the Ability360 campus, will expand its footprint and its services. Thanks to generous donations from the community, the Central Phoenix location will grow by 1,400 square feet - an 88% increase in space - allowing UCP to provide even more access to mobility training, therapy and other essential services for children with motor disorders. The location will also be home to the innovative Artech “Baby G” Early Mobilization System. The exceptional tool helps infants and small children learn to sit, crawl, stand and walk while being supported in a robotic safety harness. UCP of Central Arizona is the first clinical facility in the United States to deploy the revolutionary equipment. Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disorder in childhood. According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 10,000 babies are born each year in the U.S. with cerebral palsy (1 in 345). Studies show that 41% of children with cerebral palsy are limited in their ability to crawl, walk, run and play. Additionally, more than 30% need to use special equipment, such as walkers or wheelchairs, for increased mobility. UCP is committed to accessibility and the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams. The UCP team is passionate about the lives they touch as they help build brighter futures for children and adults with disabilities.

Six-year-old Norah Allgaier is making an enormous impact for a little girl. The Cave Creek resident was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, the most common motor disorder for kids in the U.S., when she was 13 months old. Norah is in a wheelchair and is nonverbal. But, just like other 6-year-olds, she loves to play with friends – even if it looks slightly different than a typical kid her age – which inspired a special children’s book, “Norah’s World.”
“When Norah was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, my world was rocked,” says her mom, Brittany Allgaier.
“I didn’t know anyone personally with a disability and I was pretty unfamiliar with the disability community.”
According to her moth-
er, Norah has always been very sociable. Though she is nonverbal, she is very expressive and loves spending time with other kids. Not long ago, Norah was having a playdate with a friend who was about the same age, Makena, who asked a lot of questions about Norah, like why she didn’t walk or talk.
“I knew we would have to address these questions at some point,” says Brittany. “Up until this point, Norah was so little it wasn’t an issue. As parents, we knew we needed to answer the questions honestly, in a way that provided ageappropriate information but was also sensitive and inspired acceptance.”
Makena’s mom, Lacee Johnson, surprised Brittany and Norah a few months later with a book about Norah and her life, called “Norah’s World.”
The children’s book is designed to answer the innocent questions kids have about disabilities. It explains that Norah is just like any other kid who loves to play – she just does things a little differently.
“Norah is like a ray of sunshine and exudes kindness and love everywhere she goes. Her energy
is contagious, and she has the best smile. It is no wonder she inspired a book about inclusion and acceptance,” says Blair Lebeck, physical therapist at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Arizona. Norah is a community ambassador for UCP of Central Arizona, one of the state’s oldest private, nonprofit health and human service organizations. In her role, she inspires others with cerebral palsy and works to increase awareness of disability issues across the Valley.
In addition to physical therapy, she also receives speech and occupational therapy at UCP of Central Arizona. In less than two years at UCP, Norah has made tremendous strides. With the help of her therapy team, she can now walk short distances in her walker, stand with minimal support for several minutes and communicate in short phrases on her augmentative and alternative communication device that she calls a “talker.”
For more information about “Norah’s World,” visit amazon.com. A portion of the proceeds from each book sold will go towards Norah’s ongoing intensive therapies.

Aid to Adoption of Special Kids (AASK) has been serving kids and teens in Arizona’s foster care system for 35 years by matching them with supportive, caring adults through foster care, adoption, and mentoring. AASK firmly believes that relationships matter, leading to nearly 130 successful adoptions each year, in addition to nearly 700 youth being placed with AASK foster families. With these adults and families by their side, children in foster care not only feel loved and supported, but their confidence also grows, giving them the power to dream big and imagine a bright future. This often leads them to break the cycle of abuse, trauma, and neglect that can result in generations of foster care placements. Two of the organization’s most unique programs are the kinship and mentoring programs. AASK’s kinship program focuses on families caring for a relative’s child, typically grandparents raising their grandchildren. These caregivers often take on the responsibility unexpectedly but willingly, with little to no support from the state. AASK provides a dedicated team to offer one-on-one support for each of these families, as well as an entire website dedicated to answering their questions at their convenience. AASK’s unique mentoring program primarily serves youth ages 9 to 15 living in group homes, who are particularly vulnerable to addiction, poverty, and unstable housing. These kids and teens often feel neglected, believing that the only adults in their lives are the staff paid to care for them. The mentoring program pairs them with adult mentors who want to spend time with them, get to know them, and have fun together. AASK provides a dedicated team to offer support and answer questions for both the kinship and mentoring programs.

Agape Adoption Agency of Arizona, Inc. is a Christian-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering positive outcomes for children and families. Established in 2005 by Douglas and Leslie Reprogle, the agency was born from Leslie’s profound desire to serve underserved children following a mission trip to Haiti. Since its inception, Agape has grown from assisting three families to serving hundreds, facilitating the placement of over 1,000 foster and adopted children. The agency’s name, “Agape,” translates to “love” in Greek, reflecting its commitment to nurturing and strengthening families. Guided by the biblical directive from James 1:27, which emphasizes caring for orphans and widows, Agape operates with a cooperative spirit, collaborating with birth parents, adoptive and foster families, government agencies, and community service providers throughout the journey of life, love, and healing.
In 2014, Agape achieved Hague Accreditation from the Council on Accreditation (COA), underscoring its commitment to providing ethical and professional services to children and families both domestically and internationally. The following year, the agency expanded its services by launching Agape Family Services (AFS), addressing the broader needs of child and family welfare beyond adoption.
Agape’s comprehensive services include crisis pregnancy support, domestic adoptions, foster care, and parent supportive services. Their crisis pregnancy services provide compassionate assistance to those facing unplanned pregnancies, guiding them through critical decisions with professional support. In the realm of adoption, Agape is committed to matching adoptive families with children who best fit their family dynamics, facilitating domestic adoptions that help grow families. The foster care program offers temporary placement for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, ensuring they are placed in safe and loving homes. Additionally, Agape supports birth parents with children in foster care by offering supervised visitation services, promoting family reunification through best practice parenting techniques. Through its unwavering commitment to life, love, and healing, Agape Adoption Agency of Arizona, Inc. continues to make a profound impact on the lives of children and families, embodying its mission to serve with compassion and integrity.

Since 1933, Catholic Charities Community Services of Arizona has been dedicated to serving our most vulnerable neighbors throughout Northern and Central Arizona. With over 20 programs, they reach thousands of people each year, regardless of their race, ethnicity, economic status, or religious affiliation. Catholic Charities summarizes their mission as: Serving and Sheltering Our Neighbors; Strengthening Children and Families; Welcoming Refugees and Immigrants; and Collaborating with Our Community.
As one of the major social service agencies of the Diocese of Phoenix, CCCS operates within the principles of its faith tradition, with values based on Catholic Social Teaching. While they do not provide services that are contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church, they do respect the religious beliefs and values of all clients, staff and volunteers, welcoming all regardless of background or religion. Last year, CCCS assisted more than 23,000 individuals, including 1,000+ homeless veterans, nearly 300 families with foster care training and/or placement, 1,500+ affordable housing residents who received support and resources through resident services, nearly 3,000 youth who participated in education, development and peer-leadership and 9,000+ people on a path to U.S. citizenship.
When you donate to Catholic Charities, you’re providing critical resources and wraparound care that truly changes lives. Take it from Robin. Robin had been in and out of jail most of her early adult years. She was lost in the throes of addiction and had her children removed from her care. After what would be her final stay in jail, she was introduced to Catholic Charities Juniper House in Flagstaff. Robin is now a lead probation officer, overseeing the same recovery program in which she was once enrolled. “My life today feels like a dream compared to eight years ago,” shares Robin, “I woke up in a home that I own, reunited with my daughter who now lives with me. I have a career that’s really rewarding, working to help people that are struggling like I was years ago. Catholic Charities really did give me a life I like living.” Website: catholiccharitiesaz.org

Hope & A Future is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to radically transforming the lives of Arizona’s most vulnerable youth—those in foster care. Founded in 2004, the organization’s mission is to offer mentoring, guidance, and support to teens aging out of the foster care system, helping them build bright, independent futures filled with hope. Each year, over 800 youth age out of Arizona’s foster care system, many without a stable support network, financial resources, or the life skills needed to transition into adulthood. Hope & A Future steps into this gap, offering holistic programs that nurture emotional, spiritual, academic, and professional growth.
Their cornerstone initiative, the Mentor Program, pairs teens and young adults with caring adult mentors who provide consistent guidance, encouragement, and life coaching. These long-term relationships help build trust and stability while reinforcing positive decision-making and resilience.
Hope & A Future also offers practical life skills training through workshops on financial literacy, cooking, resume building, job readiness, and more. Youth are supported in setting and reaching personal goals, from pursuing higher education to securing meaningful employment and housing.
The organization’s Dream Center serves as a safe haven where youth can gather, access resources, and attend classes or events that build confidence and life skills. Additionally, the Scholarship Fund supports continuing education, and the Thrive to 25 program offers ongoing guidance until youth reach age 25.
By combining practical support with relational mentoring, Hope & A Future breaks cycles of trauma and empowers foster youth to build healthy, self-sufficient lives. The impact is life-changing—for the youth, their communities, and future generations.
Your support makes a lasting difference. Whether through volunteering, donating, or becoming a mentor, you can help change the trajectory of a young life.
Website: azhope.com
When you give to Hope & A Future, you’re helping change the trajectory of a young person’s life. Donations directly support a variety of life-enriching programs that empower Arizona’s most vulnerable youth—and two of the most impactful are their transformative summer camps. These camps provide more than just fun in the sun—they offer stability, connection, and a sense of belonging for children in foster care who often face overwhelming challenges.
Royal Family Kids Camp (Ages 7–11)
This weeklong overnight camp is designed specifically for children in foster care, providing a safe, nurturing environment where kids can simply be kids. Every
activity—from arts and crafts to swimming, games, and outdoor adventures—is infused with love, encouragement, and intentional mentorship. With a camper-tostaff ratio of 2:1, each child receives the attention and care they deserve. For many campers, this is the first time they’ve experienced
a birthday party, a campfire, or a week where they feel truly seen and celebrated. The goal is to create joyful, healing memories that will stay with them long after summer ends.
Teen Reach Adventure Camp (Ages 12–15)
As kids in foster care grow into teens, their needs and challenges shift—and Teen Reach Adventure Camp (TRAC) is designed to meet them right where they are. This three-day camp focuses on trust-building, self-worth, and resilience through a mix of outdoor adventure, guided discussions, and team-based activities. Teens engage in ropes courses, hiking, journaling, and meaningful oneon-one mentorship. TRAC provides
a powerful space where teens can reflect on their value, set goals, and build confidence in a supportive community of peers and mentors who believe in their potential. Every dollar donated to Hope & A Future helps make these camps— and so many other programs— possible. Your support gives foster youth the opportunity to experience joy, build relationships, and begin to heal.
This April, celebrate National Volunteer Month by giving back in a way that’s truly priceless—your time.
When most people think about supporting a nonprofit, financial donations often come to mind. But while funding is essential, nonprofits also depend heavily on something just as valuable: volunteers.
Across the Valley, local organizations are making an impact—feeding families, rescuing animals, mentoring youth, supporting veterans, and more. But to continue that work, they need people just like you. Volunteers are the heart of many nonprofits, helping with everything from packaging food to walking shelter dogs or mentoring students.
Whether you have a few hours a week or one free Saturday a month, your time and talents can make a real difference.
Local food banks and distribution centers rely on volunteers to sort donations, pack boxes, and help at community events. These hands-on roles are vital to ensuring food reaches
those who need it most. They’re also perfect for individuals, families, or groups looking to give back together.
Animal rescues need more than donations—they need foster families, dog walkers, transport volunteers, and event helpers. Fostering can be lifesaving for pets in crowded shelters, but even an hour of playtime or a ride to a vet appointment helps lighten the load.
You don’t need to be on-site to make an impact. Many nonprofits need help with office tasks, website updates, social media, or event planning. If you have a professional skill—like graphic design, marketing, or accounting—your behindthe-scenes support can be incredibly valuable.
Some of the most powerful volunteer roles are those that simply involve showing up. Many nonprofits need mentors for youth, tutors for students, or companions for seniors. Just being there for someone can provide hope, comfort, and connection.
Not everyone can commit regularly, and that’s okay. Many organizations offer one-time or short-term opportunities like cleanup days, holiday drives, or fundraising events. These still make a big impact and can be a great way to try volunteering without a long-term commitment.
Volunteering isn’t just good for the community—it’s good for you. It reduces stress, combats loneliness, builds confidence, and creates meaningful connections. You may even discover new skills or passions along the way.
There’s no one “right” way to volunteer. What matters is showing up. Even a small time commitment can make a huge difference—especially when many people get involved.
So this April, in honor of National Volunteer Month, consider giving your time to a local nonprofit. Whether you’re packing food boxes, fostering a pet, or mentoring a teen, your time may be the greatest gift you can give.
What is the difference between a deduction and a tax credit?
A deduction reduces the amount of your income upon which the tax is determined. A credit reduces your tax liability as if you had already paid the tax.
While the following pages contain organizations do not qualify for a tax credit, donations to these 501(c)(3) nonprofits qualify for an itemized deduction from your income. Because the tax rate is then applied to a reduced income, this can minimize your overall tax liability.
As you engage with these organizations, consider the dual impact your support can have—on the causes you champion and on the potential positive adjustments to your federal tax burden. Join the movement towards a better Arizona, knowing that your generosity can ripple through both the community and your financial landscape.
As always, consult with you tax advisor to determine if your charitable donation or portion of your charitable donation is tax-deductible.

Lost Our Home Pet Rescue provides compassionate solutions to permanent and temporary displacement, pet abandonment, and hunger by assisting both pets and their families, especially during times of domestic violence, eviction, homelessness, illness, and more. They take a proactive approach to keeping pets out of overcrowded shelters where they are at risk of being euthanized, and instead place them with the families that love them. By bridging the gap between human welfare and pet welfare services, Lost Our Home ensures that families facing adversity don’t have to choose between their own well-being and the safety of their beloved pets.
Programs for people and pets include:
90-Day Temporary Care Crisis Program: Provides complete pet care for families experiencing a crisis so that they don’t need to make the heartbreaking decision to leave pets behind in dangerous and possibly life-threatening situations so they can access housing, personal safety, or support where a pet is not allowed.
Animal Rescue: Transferring pets from high-risk shelters and pet parents who can no longer care for them. As a no-kill shelter, pet parents can take solace in knowing that their pets will be adopted by a family to love and care for them.
120-Day Temporary Care Domestic Violence Program: In partnership with several domestic violence shelters, Lost Our Home provides support for pets on their campuses.
Pet Food Bank Program: Provides pet food and supplies to pet parents who temporarily cannot afford food for their pets, removing the difficult decision to choose between getting food or medicine for themselves or food for their pets.
Tempe First Responder Program: Provides 24/7 access to the shelter for first responders on duty when they have a situation involving a pet that needs a safe place to go.
In the past 15 years, Lost Our Home has helped over 36,000 pets, fed over 1,000,000 meals through its food bank, helped over 21,500 people in crisis, and adopted over 11,000 pets into safe and loving homes.

Uniting Rescues, Saving Lives. Founded in 1999, PACC911 (Phoenix Animal Care Coalition) is a powerful force for animal welfare in Arizona, bringing together over 140 rescue organizations, primarily in Maricopa County, with one shared mission: to save as many animals as possible.
By uniting efforts, PACC911 amplifies the impact of individual rescues, ensuring that more homeless, abused, and injured animals get the help they desperately need. One of the most critical challenges facing animal rescues is access to vital resources and funding, and that’s where PACC911 steps in. Their large scale Adopt-A-Thons provide a platform for rescue partners to showcase adoptable pets, while their Critical Care Program delivers life saving financial assistance for urgent veterinary care. The numbers speak for themselves:
• 1,800 dogs and cats received medical care through the Critical Care Program in 2024 alone.
• 11,000 animals have been rescued and rehabilitated since the program’s inception in 2004.
• 33,000 animals were saved in 2024 through the collective efforts of PACC911’s rescue network.
But saving lives goes beyond medical care. PACC911 also operates the Chuck Waggin’ Pet Food Pantry, assisting over 200 families each month by providing pet food to those struggling financially. By helping families keep their pets at home, they prevent unnecessary surrenders and reduce the strain on local shelters.
As Arizona’s population grows, so does the number of animals in need. Overwhelmed shelters and underfunded rescues face an uphill battle every day. Your support of PACC911 directly fuels rescue efforts, providing the resources and care that make second chances possible. When you donate to PACC911, you’re not just giving money, you’re giving hope, healing, and a future to animals who would otherwise have none. Join them in making a difference. Together, we save lives.

Why Shop at Stardust: Stardust carries a wide selection of gently used, new, and salvaged building materials at prices 50% to 80% off regular retail — always sales tax-free. Inventory changes daily, giving shoppers access to unique items while helping the environment and supporting a charitable cause.
Deconstruction Services: Stardust’s deconstruction service provides a sustainable alternative to demolition, offering homeowners and businesses a convenient way to donate materials while saving time and money. Rather than sending materials to the landfill, Stardust’s team removes cabinets, appliances, fixtures, and more for reuse — all eligible for a tax deduction. By choosing to donate, shop, or partner with Stardust, the community plays a vital role in reducing waste, protecting the planet, and creating a more sustainable future.

Survivors RISE is dedicated to serving survivors of sexual assault with peer-led, peer-driven programming that creates community and fosters holistic healing in the greater Phoenix area. Their organization is committed to supporting survivors at every stage in their journey towards recovery, healing, and wellness to minimize the long-term, devastating effects of sexual violence. They offer a safe, supportive, and nurturing community where survivors can connect and find the resources and support necessary to thrive. They actively engage in professional development and educational initiatives with other organizations, striving to inspire transformative change that will better meet the needs of survivors.
R.I.S.E. for survivors of sexual assault means:
Reimagined services beyond those that are traditionally offered;
Innovating alternative pathways forward so that programs are inclusive, accessible, and diverse; Strengthening programs already in place to ensure that when survivors reach out, the community is ready to respond;
Elevating the awareness and conversation around sexual assault and how to best support survivors so that together, we can rise above sexual violence.
Traditional systems do not always meet the needs of survivors and can often cause more harm. Survivors RISE wants to bridge the gap in services for survivors who do not report, who do not wish to seek traditional therapy, and who are seeking community in a world where we are told to isolate after experiencing this traumatic event. Healing happens in community.

For many incarcerated women, life after prison seems like an impossible challenge. Without access to education, job training, or support, the cycle of recidivism continues. The Televerde Foundation believes that every woman deserves a chance to thrive, not just survive. Through comprehensive programs that focus on education, professional development, and reentry support, Televerde Foundation empowers women to rebuild their lives and find a new sense of purpose. The Televerde Foundation enables women to break the generational cycle of poverty and incarceration by becoming positive role models to change the lives of future generations and build stronger communities. In fact, through these women completing the programs, 1,128 children have experienced the positive impact as well.
The Televerde Foundation’s mission goes beyond simple rehabilitation. They create real pathways to success by providing incarcerated women with the tools they need to reenter society with confidence. From business skills to personal growth, Televerde graduates leave their programs ready to embark on a new chapter.
The impact is undeniable: Since Televerde Foundation’s inception in March 2020, 980 incarcerated women have joined their programs in Arizona, Indiana, and Florida. Less than 1% have returned to prison. These statistics reflect the impact of the Foundation’s programs on supporting successful reentry and reducing recidivism. But, there’s more to be done. With your support, The Televerde Foundation can reach even more women, offering them hope and the tools to succeed. Whether you contribute your time, talent, or resources, your partnership with Televerde Foundation can help break the cycle of incarceration and create brighter futures for thousands of women and their families. Certified School Tuition Organizations (STOs) are established to receive income tax credit contributions that fund scholarships for students to attend qualified K-12 private schools located in Arizona.
According to the AZDOR, an STO must meet provisions including:

• Not limiting the availability of scholarships to students of one school.
• Allowing donors to recommend student beneficiaries but shall not award, designate or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of donor recommendations.
• They shall not allow donors to designate student beneficiaries as a condition of any contribution to the organization.

A gift to the Arizona Independent Schools Scholarship Foundation (AISSF) transforms your state tax dollars into a bright future for Arizona students. Access to a quality education transforms young lives. It removes obstacles to opportunity and paves the way to a brighter future. AISSF provides need-based scholarship funds to students attending Phoenix Country Day School, The Gregory School, and Desert View Learning Center. Your support opens doors to Arizona’s finest private independent schools for students with the greatest potential even when they do not have the greatest means.
At AISSF your gift goes further. While tax credit legislation allows school tuition organizations (STOs) to keep 10% of tax credit contributions, AISSF only spends about half of that on foundation administration. The rest goes into a separate fund for additional scholarships and ancillary support to help scholarship students cover expenses not included in tuition like tutoring, instrument rentals, athletic fees, and school trips.
AISSF makes sure your contribution goes where it is needed most. Their careful, rigorous standards ensure that your tax credit contributions are handled wisely and well. The foundation only provides scholarships for students with verified financial need, and they do not accept donor recommendations for student recipients. Instead, they accept recommendations directly from participating schools to ensure that all scholarships go to those who need it most.
Visit aissf.org to learn more about their schools, their scholars, and how you can turn your Arizona tax dollars into a bright future for Arizona students.

By Blackhawk Capital Partners
At Blackhawk Capital Partners, we take a proactive approach, helping ensure that every financial decision is tax-efficient and structured to maximize both immediate and future benefits.
For business owners and high-net-worth individuals, strategic wealth planning is about more than just growing wealth—it’s about protecting assets, optimizing tax strategies, and helps ensure long-term financial security. Many individuals and businesses miss key opportunities to reduce tax burdens, safeguard their wealth, and position themselves for long-term success. Are You Taking Advantage of All Tax-Deductible Opportunities?
Every dollar saved in taxes is another dollar you can invest back into your business, retirement, or long-term wealth strategy. The right financial structure ensures you’re leveraging all available tax benefits while staying compliant with everchanging regulations.
Smarter Tax Strategies for High-Income Earners & Business Owners
Most accountants give lazy advice—telling clients to simply spend more money to alleviate taxes. At Blackhawk Capital Partners, we take a more strategic approach. Instead of encouraging wasteful spending, we apply sophisticated tax strategies to help self-employed individuals, business owners, and high-income earners spend money more efficiently while enhancing net worth.
Our tax strategy expertise is led by Tommy Jeffers, CPA & Enrolled Agent, and President of Taxmasters 2 Ltd., who specializes in advanced tax planning for high-income earners and self-employed individuals, including
The right business structure—whether it’s an S-Corp, C-Corp, LLC, or partnership—can significantly impact how your income is taxed. Implementing cost segregation, utilizing Section 1202 (the Qualified Small Business Stock Exemption), and structuring tax-efficient income distributions are essential to reducing overall tax burdens.
Business owners face unique financial risks. ERISA-qualified plans, trusts, and strategic structuring can help safeguard assets from litigation, creditors, and excessive taxation. Arizona’s homestead law and other state-specific legal protections offer additional layers of security when structured correctly.
Traditional retirement plans like 401(k)s offer tax advantages, but for business owners and high-income professionals looking to accelerate savings, cash balance plans provide an even more powerful tool.
A cash balance plan is a type of defined benefit plan that allows business owners to contribute significantly more pre-tax dollars than a standard 401(k) or IRA. Contributions can often reach high six figures annually, depending on age and income, allowing for rapid retirement savings while dramatically reducing taxable income.
These plans work particularly well for:
• High-income earners looking to maximize taxdeferred savings
• Business owners seeking larger deductions while rewarding employees
• A structured, gradual exit plan while maintaining business control
• Employee incentives and retention strategies by giving them a direct stake in ownership
Choosing between private equity and an ESOP requires evaluating wealth goals, estate planning considerations, and long-term business continuity. A well-structured sale can provide taxefficient outcomes while securing the future of the company.
Charitable giving can be both a meaningful contribution and a tax-saving strategy. Business owners and high-net-worth individuals can leverage donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from IRAs, and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs) to minimize taxes while supporting the causes they care about.
Donating appreciated assets such as stocks or real estate allows individuals to avoid capital gains taxes while securing a deduction. Meanwhile, structured giving strategies enable you to support charities while preserving wealth for future generations.
Complex Wealth Planning Made Simple High-net-worth families and business owners often juggle multiple financial priorities, from tax efficiency and asset management to business succession. At Blackhawk Capital Partners, we serve as your financial quarterback, ensuring every aspect of your financial life—from personal and business wealth management to tax and estate strategies— works together seamlessly.
• Partnerships, medical practices, and law firms with steady, high-earning partners
By implementing a cash balance plan, business owners can supercharge retirement savings, defer more taxes, and increase financial flexibility in retirement.
maneuver the tax code for
C-Corps, S-Corps, and partnerships. Whether you need to minimize tax liabilities, structure your business efficiently, or create a long-term wealth strategy, we work to effectively maneuver the tax code for your specific situation.
An ESOP allows business owners to sell all or part pf their company to employees, offering:
• Potential tax deferral on capital gains (IRC Section 1042 elections)
Whether it’s optimizing tax strategies, structuring investments, implementing business succession plans, or crafting custom retirement solutions, our team is here to maximize efficiency while minimizing unnecessary liabilities.

If you wish to leave some of your estate to charitable institutions, then a gift from your retirement accounts can have tremendous advantages. There are many ways to benefit your favorite charity both now and at your death. If these charitable gifts are done properly, you can receive tax advantages now, and save your heirs taxes later. Distributing appreciated assets with a low basis. Did you buy stock or other assets at a low price? Do you own stock that has increased in value with no way to trace what your original purchase price? Giving stock and other highly appreciated assets with a low basis can be a great way to support your favorite charity. As the donor, you can claim the charitable deduction for the value of the gifted assets. The charity, meanwhile, can accept the gift and cash it out without paying taxes. This gift benefits your favorite charity and avoids capital gains taxes on the appreciated assets.
Gifting your required minimum distributions from your IRA. Another option to support your favorite charity is a gift during your lifetime by making a Qualified Charitable Distribution, also known as a charitable IRA Rollover. Individuals who are age 70.5 or older can direct their annual required minimum distributions (up to $100,000) from an IRA to a charity tax-free. However, the payment must be made directly to the charity to qualify
for this tax-free distribution. While the individual distributing this gift from an IRA doesn’t receive an income tax charitable deduction, they also don’t have to recognize the distribution as taxable income. If you are already making gifts to a charity each year, this can be a way to benefit your charity and reduce your taxes at the same time. Just remember you cannot take the distribution into your bank account first! The gift must go straight to the charity from your IRA. The advice of a CPA will ensure you do this properly. Making your charity the beneficiary of your traditional 401(k) or IRA. Your contributions to your traditional 401(k) or IRA are pretax money. You, or an individual inheriting the IRA from you, will pay taxes when they withdraw the funds. If you have a beneficiary on your retirement accounts who is 10 years younger than you, they will have to withdraw all those funds within 10 years of your passing. If giving to charities is part of your plan, then making the charity the beneficiary may be the better plan, tax-wise. Naming a charity as a beneficiary means they will pay no taxes on the distribution of that traditional retirement account. Be careful when you have both individual beneficiaries and charities on the same IRA as there can be unintended tax consequences when you do so. Consult with an attorney or CPA to avoid any issues.
Donor-Advised Funds offer a simple way for you to benefit a variety of charities during
your life and beyond. A donoradvised fund can be established with, for instance, a community foundation. In our state, the Arizona Community Foundation is one choice for a donoradvised fund. The donor can give cash or securities to the fund. He or she receives an income tax charitable deduction for the year of the donation. The donor designates the charities that they want to receive the benefit of their donation – or they can designate the types of charities rather than specific charities. A donor-advised fund can be used for a gift from your estate after your death as well.
A charitable remainder trust allows the donor to give assets to an irrevocable trust that then provides income for one or
more individual beneficiaries (even you and a spouse), and at the end of a specific time, or on the death of the beneficiaries, the remainder of the assets are given to charity. This type of trust can be another method to gift highly appreciated assets. The trust will permit the donor to claim an immediate charitable deduction for the value of the assets that will ultimately pass to the charity. The donation also avoids the capital gains taxes on any appreciated assets. If you are interested in charitable planning for your estate, our office can help. Call the Law Office of Libby Banks for an appointment to discuss the options at 602-375-6752. You can also visit LibbyBanks.com to learn more.
