Samsung has a presence at King’s Cross in London, which is a major transportation hub and commercial district in the city. The Samsung experience store is located within the Coal Drops Yard development. The Coal Drops Yard was originally built in the mid-19th century as coal storage vaults for the nearby railway. It is now a revitalized area of historic Victorian buildings, transformed into a vibrant retail and cultural destination while retaining its industrial heritage.
Samsung’s King’s Cross experience store is a must-see destination for anyone who appreciates sleek and modern aesthetics. But it’s not just the products that are a work of art. The store’s interior design is a masterpiece in its own right. The open and airy space, with its clean lines and muted color palette, creates a sense of calm that is a welcome respite from the bustling city outside.
To tie in the transit history of King’s Cross, the design team sought out a customized Split Flap display. For the first time ever, Oat Foundry built an L-shaped two-sign fixture to adorn the walls of the cafe at Samsung KX. The two displays sit perpendicular to each other, creating the illusion that the entire wall is clacking flaps. The unique sign also features custom flaps with the Gotham typeface and a GBP symbol instead of our usual US dollar sign.
The signs showcase cafe menus and events, changing continuously in rotation to draw guests’ eyes. Amidst the experience center’s innovative display technologies, the Split Flap display serves as a reminder of the past. It stands out as analog in a room full of screens. 94 " x 70 " and 28 "
