Fall Festival

A NOTE From the Head Golf Pro

Dear Oakwood Members,

It's hard to believe that the time change has arrived, signaling the end of the golf season. As we transition into the offseason, I'd like to take a moment to share some important operational updates. The grass tee on the driving range will be covered and the range will be set up on the mats from this point forward.

Here are the updated hours for the golf shop:

*Golf Shop Hours*

Monday to Sunday 9 AM – 5 PM

Oakwood Golf Performance Center:

**Monday** 12 PM – 5 PM

*Tuesday-Saturday* 9 AM – 7 PM

*Sunday* 9 AM – 5 PM

Please note that if winter weather impacts these hours, we will keep you informed with any necessary updates.

I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the champions of our 2024

Year-Long Match Play events at Oakwood. These competitions offered thrilling matchups throughout the summer, concluding last week. Below are the winners from each event; please join me in congratulating them on their outstanding performances:

*Ladies 4-Ball Match Play Champions*: Lynn Poskin & Meg Adkins

*Couples 4-Ball Match Play Champions*: David & Jill Shapiro

*Men’s Net Match Play Club Champion*: Blake Cooper

*Men’s Club Championship Match Play*: Jay McBride

Congratulations to all the champions! We look forward to seeing you back in 2025, ready to defend your titles!

Best Regards,

A NOTE From the Director of Grounds

Grounds Update

Extreme drought conditions have continued into November at Oakwood, with only 1.25 inches of rain in September and October a full 6 inches below the seasonal average. Warmer-than-usual temperatures have added to the challenge of keeping the course in prime condition. As we head into winter, the course could certainly use some rain as it transitions into dormancy.

As days grow shorter and temperatures drop, the zoysia grass on tees and fairways is entering its dormant phase, turning brown and ceasing to recover from divots until next May. For this reason, we’re now shifting driving range stations to the artificial turf mats —please avoid hitting directly in front of them. Thankfully, we have the city’s best winter practice facilitytoenjoy!

The beautiful Oakwood trees are also preparing for winter, which means our team is busy blowing and mulchingleavesdaily.Weappreciateyourpatienceas weworktomanagethegrowingleafpiles.Startingthis month, our greens team will also begin tree trimming andselectiveremovals, aimedatimprovingturfhealth and course playability. Please be mindful of the crew, ensuringtheyseeyoubeforeplayingthroughtheirwork area.

There’sstillgreatfallgolfaheadthismonth—remember to fill divots and repair ball marks. I look forward to seeingyouonthecourse!
