Oakwood Golf PerformanceTips with Coach Mo

Ball Against Rough on Putting Green

Explore with this:

Use a hybrid, just like your putter

Shaft is more upright, toe down

Use putter grip

Motion should look just like you are putting

Uneven Lies Practice Area

Side Hill Lie

Trail Foot Higher than Lead Foot

Shoulders need to match the slope

Ball Position - back in stance - the hill is a barrier to ball, therefore moving the ball back ensures the club doesn’t hit the ground first - the severity of hill will determine how far back

Back swing and forward swing need to be steeper to match the slope

Make sure club-head continues to travel down with the hill after impact

Remember to always “FEEL” what gravity is trying to do and to work with it, not against it.

A NOTE From the Director of Grounds

Grounds Update

Thishasbeenastarttosummerforthebooks.Weopened the par-3 course for member play. From the sound of things, many people have enjoyed the new course. I hope you have not lost too many balls out there! After the fun of opening the par-3, a wind storm came through Oakwood early Sunday morning making quite a mess. Many tree limbs large and small were dropped on the course. 6 trees fellinthestormintotal.Thecrewhasworkedhardtoreturn thecoursetonormalandreadyforsummer. As June begins, the pending summer weather is heavy on my mind. To prepare for the heat the crew has been busy puttinggreensfansout, sprayinggreensforturfhealth, and fertilizing. You will also notice increased hand watering on greens to keep the low-cut grass as happy as possible. I know my staff is up for the summer challenge and I am excited to see how well both courses fair through the summer.

You can do several things when playing golf to help keep Oakwood looking its best Please fix your ball marks when on the green. If you cannot find your ball mark fix any ball mark. Remember to push from the edge of the mark to the center and tap the markdown with your putter. Do not pry up as this will tear the roots and cause the mark to turn brown. Fill divots made in the fairways with the sand provided on the carts. Last please use the enter exit stakes when driving onto each hole. When driving on the par-3 coursepleaseavoidturningyourcartaround.Ifyouneedto turn around please use the pull-out areas by greens and tees to turn. Please do not turn around in the tall native grass. AllgolfingmembersandIappreciateyourefforts.
