A Time of Growth and Evolution for the Oakley Police Department

In recent months, the Oakley Police Department has continued to grow and evolve under the guidance of Chief Paul Beard.

Logan Cartwright and Robert Roberts have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Dallas Collier and Casey Minister have been promoted to Sergeant.

And the OPD has grown to 50 officers with the hiring of eight new officers to serve the Oakley community- Rebecca Schiff, Freddie Williams, Joseph Canady, Tyler Burton, Zach Fielding, Ryan Arcaina, Ricardo Hernandez and Malik Jackson.

Visit Local Businesses at the “Digital Market”

The City of Oakley is working with government software startup Glass to launch the “Oakley Digital Market.” The Digital Market is an e-commerce marketplace where local business owners can seamlessly showcase and sell their products and services online.

Through the marketplace, local businesses can digitize their catalogs of products and services and start receiving orders and digital payments in a streamlined and compliant fashion. Buyers can also discover Oakley’s local businesses, see their latest products, services, and pricing, and buy from them with a couple of clicks.

New Platform Launching Soon– Envision Oakley!

The City Manager's Office will be launching a new citizen engagement platform through Citizen Lab called Envision Oakley.

The Envision Oakley platform will allow our residents to follow along from the planning to execution stages of projects, and provide meaningful engagement throughout the process Be on the lookout for more information soon!

Oakley is Now Hiring!

The City of Oakley, in partnership with Los Medanos College, is offering a series of monthly classes focusing on different topics of interest to local entrepreneurs and small business owners. The free 90-minute online classes are scheduled on Fridays at noon.

Upcoming classes include: February 17th (Human Resources for Business Owners), March 17th (Accounting and Bookkeeping), April 21st (California Sales Tax Compliance), May 9th (Small Business Taxation), and June 15th (What Successful Entrepreneurship Looks Like)

The department has also purchased a new 3D scanner machine that will help officers document the condition of roadways and crime scenes much faster than they were previously able to do.

Grant Money for Community

to provide people of all abilities access to social and recreational events.

The funding for Meals on Wheels Diablo Region funds 4,500 meals for the Breakfast Bag Program, which delivers a week’s worth of healthy breakfast items to food insecure elders.

The grant to Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa allowed that organization’s Oakley Dining Room to serve nearly twice as many meals per day to food insecure individuals as served before the pandemic.

The grant to the Friends of the Oakley Library provided funding for events including dance performances, holiday events, virtual author visits, and also enabled them to purchase books and children’s story-time craft supplies.

The funding for St. Vincent de Paul - St. Anthony Conference provided $8884 in emergency housing and utility assistance to 14 Oakley families in need.

Public Works Update: Street Work, New Park

A City of Oakley Public Works project is ongoing to complete the widening of East Cypress Road from Knightsen Avenue to Jersey Island Road. This work will involve the widening of the north side of East Cypress Road to a six-lane divided roadway, the addition of a traffic signal at the intersection of East Cypress Road and Broadway Avenue, new curbs, sidewalks, and medians, landscaping, irrigation, and streetlights. The construction phase is currently underway.

And a new park Enrico Cinquini Park will be located at the northwest corner of the Rose Avenue/Carpenter Road intersection. The property that will encompass the new park is approximately 4.5 acres and is currently a vacant piece of land. The features of the new park will include a new natural turf field, a half basketball court, a splashpad water feature, a playground, and a covered picnic area.

Finance Department Recognized by State

The City of Oakley’s Finance Department has had a busy and successful past several months! The City recently was given the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers Excellence in Budgeting Award for Fiscal Year 2022/2023!

And the City received a score of 98.38 on the State Auditor’s Local Government High Risk Assessment program in Fiscal Year 2020/2021 (the most recent available results). Only two other cities in California (Eastvale and Maricopa) were deemed to be fiscally safer than Oakley!

Taste of Oakley Celebration Expands

Calling all Oakley restaurants, caterers, bakers, food trucks, and grocers!

We are looking for businesses who are interested in being part of our 8th Annual Taste of Oakley. This year, we are adding a week-long promotion for deals and special limited-edition meals that local community members can purchase from Saturday, May 6th through Saturday, May 13th. These will be highlighted in take-home passports that can be picked up at the Oakley Recreation Center.

Don't worry, we are still doing our Taste of Oakley in-person ticketed event, where local businesses can showcase their food in small portions for community members to enjoy! Report Graffiti Around Oakley and Get Rewarded!

Did you know that the City’s Graffiti Rewards Program rewards citizens with $300 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of graffiti vandals? This also includes vandalism to public areas such as parks, trees, and fountains, etc.

DO: Ensure personal safety first and report graffiti to the appropriate authorities. Get a good description of the suspect(s), vehicles involved and location.

DO NOT: Attempt to apprehend the suspect. Wait too long to report it.

To report graffiti: call the Oakley Police Dispatch for a crime in progress at (925) 625-8060 or call Code Enforcement at (925) 625-7031.

Join Us at Civic Center Plaza on First Fridays for Our Friday Night Bites Food Trucks and Concerts!

Join us on the first Friday of each month for our popular Friday Night Bites food truck event! Check out our City of Oakley social media platforms close to the First Friday for the lineup of trucks. The next event is March 3rd.

And beginning in May and going through October, these Friday Night Bites events will include a concert featuring a local band. The food trucks and the live music will be on site from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, 3231 Main Street.

Fondos de Ayuda Entregados a Grupos Locales

La ciudad de Oakley ha recibido fondos federales de la Ley del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense (American Rescue Plan Act, ARPA) para ayudar en la recuperación económica posterior a la pandemia.

La primera ronda de subvenciones se distribuyó a organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro Be Exceptional, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region, Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, Friends of the Oakley Library y St. Vicente de Paul.
