Opportunities Through Innovation
The rapid pace of change brings its share of challenges, but it’s also opening exciting new possibilities:
Evolving Practices: From green burials and natural organic reduction to the growing preference for cremation, our services are evolving to meet changing needs.
Cemeteries as Community Spaces: By reimagining cemeteries as parks and green spaces, we’re fostering positive engagement and encouraging open conversations about death
Death-Positive Culture: This cultural shift is helping families openly discuss death and what's possible for memorializing and celebrating a loved one, reducing stress during difficult times and increasing awareness of what’s possible.
OACFP is Supporting Members
We’re committed to helping our members adapt to these changes and thrive Here’s how:
Data Collection and Sharing: By surveying members, compiling reports, and tracking trends like cremation rates and green burial preferences, we keep you informed.
Education and Resources: Through webinars, conferences, and other programs, we ensure you’re equipped to meet emerging challenges.
Collaboration and Advocacy: We partner with industry organizations, universities, and government bodies to drive positive change and innovation
Regional Champions: Local leaders across Ontario help facilitate collaboration and share knowledge, strengthening our provincial network
Building a Future-Ready Sector Together
To thrive in this rapidly changing landscape, embracing innovation and data-driven strategies is essential:
Harnessing Technology: Digital tools and AI are transforming how we work to offer our services more efficiently and effectively
Proactive Client Engagement: Encouraging families to pre-plan helps them understand their options and make informed decisions during calmer times.
Adapting to Change: While the pace of change is unprecedented, working together across disciplines ensures we stay ahead and serve families effectively.
Looking Ahead
OACFP is committed to empowering our members in today’s ever-evolving landscape By fostering collaboration, sharing practical solutions, and championing the sector, we’re shaping a future that’s innovative, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
In the face of ongoing change from shifting cultural attitudes to the growing impact of global misinformation our sector continues to evolve with resilience and purpose Meeting these challenges means not only staying informed, but also embracing the tools that can help us serve families more meaningfully Innovation is no longer on the horizon; it’s here, reshaping how we work, connect, and remember With the right balance of compassion, ethics, and strategy, we have an opportunity to lead this transformation in ways that honour both the past and the possibilities ahead.
PRESIDENT’S UPDATE.....CONT.....
LET’S KEEP SUPPORTING EACH OTHER AND SHAPING A FUTURE THAT RESPECTS BOTH TRADITION AND PROGRESS.
Bridging the Digital Divide: Some OACFP members have embraced modern systems, however adopting new technologies isn’t feasible for others primarily due to cost and accessibility barriers. Removing those barriers and identifying equitable solutions will be an ongoing area of focus
OACFP’s Role in Supporting Our Members Through this Transformation
As these changes unfold, OACFP is here to help members stay informed and prepared We’re committed to:
Education and Resources: Offering webinars, conferences, and training to keep everyone up to speed on the latest trends. Our education platform, OACFP ACE, contains many topics to help our members adapt including Making the Most of Technology, Cyber Security Awareness, AI & Chat GPT Made Simple and The New Death: From Diamonds to Compost to name a few. Collaboration and Advocacy: Partnering with key players in the sector, from technology providers to the Bereavement Authority of Ontario to ensure our members get the best support possible. Promoting Best Practices: Helping members find the right balance between innovation and ethical, compassionate service. This is the focus of our 2025 annual conference in October, “The Business of Compassion: Balancing Service and Success” and our May 22 event in collaboration with the Funeral Service Association of Canada (FSAC), “Next Gen Bereavement Innovators”
Looking Ahead
The bereavement sector is evolving fast, and technology is leading the way. By staying informed, working together, and keeping families at the heart of what we do, we can move forward with confidence. It’s inspiring to see how our members continue to adapt, bringing professionalism and care to the families who rely on them. As we embrace these changes, let’s keep supporting each other and shaping a future that respects both tradition and progress.
Thank you for everything you do.
