Centenary of Telegraph in New Zealand. -
On 1 July, 1862 the rirst New Zealand telegraph circuit was brought into operation between Lyttelton and Christchurch in the South Island. To commemorate the Centenary or this event an issue or two postage stamps is to be made. The stamps are illustrated here. Denominations and subjects are:3d.

In the 3d. denomination the Morse key and the operator's hand are shown in brown while the hills are green. The teleprinter equipment in the 8d. denomination is grey against a red background. Each stamp will to a sheet.

There will be 120 stamps
Mr A.G. Mitchell or Wellington designed the 3d. denomination and Mr L.C. Mitchell also or Wellington, the 8d. The stamps will be placed on sale at all post orrices at the end or May and unless supplies are exhausted earlier, will be withdrawn on 29 September. Production by the photogravure process has been carried out by Messrs Harrison and Sons Limited, London. Paper with a consistency 50 per cent Esparto and 50 per cent sulphite has been used.
