The 60th Anniversary of The Cuban Revolution In January 2019, The New York Times en Español will produce a special series to mark the 60th anniversary of the armed revolt that overthrew Fulgencio Batista as Cuban president and established a communist government, led by Fidel Castro. This package will include specially commissioned globally recognized voices who will write about the time that transformed Cuban society and the region.

Azam Ahmed, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean bureau chief Azam Ahmed is the bureau chief for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, where he took over in the summer of 2015. Prior to arriving in Mexico City, where Mr. Ahmed is based, he was the bureau chief in The Times’ Afghanistan bureau, where he worked for nearly three years.

Nicholas Casey, Andes bureau chief Nicholas Casey has been the Andes bureau chief at The Times since January 2016, and joined The Times the year before. In this role, he covers most of the countries in South America including Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and the Guyanas.

Ernesto Londoño, Brazil bureau chief Ernesto Londoño has been The Times’s Brazil bureau chief since July 2017. Based in Rio de Janeiro, he oversees coverage of the southern cone of South America. He joined The Times in 2014 as an editorial writer focusing on international affairs.

Manny Fernandez, Houston bureau chief Manny Fernandez has been the Houston bureau chief since 2011, covering Texas and Oklahoma. He joined The New York Times as a Metro reporter in 2005, covering the Bronx and housing.

Patricia Mazzei, Miami bureau chief Patricia Mazzei is the Miami bureau chief, covering Florida and Puerto Rico. Before joining The New York Times, she was the political writer for The Miami Herald, where she reported on the 2016 presidential election, the Cuban diaspora and natural disasters.
