PETER W. RODINO JR. Peter W. Rodino Jr., was born in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers Law School and received his LL.B. in 1937. That same year he was admitted to the New Jersey Bar. He practiced in Newark until 1941 when he volunteered for service in the United States Army. He was commissioned overseas and served for five years with the 1st Armored Division and with the Military Mission, Italian Army. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, and was decorated in 1945 by King Umberto of Italy. In 1948 he was elected Representative to Congress from New Jersey's 10th District, a position he has held since. He has served in many leadership positions in the Congress, among them: Member of the Democratic Steering (Policy) Committee, House of Representatives, 1965-1972; Assistant to Majority Whip of the House, 1965-1972; Congressional Observer, Disarmament Conference in Geneva, 1968; Delegate to the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration (ICEM) dealing with refugee problems, 1962-1972; and Chairman 1971-72; Delegate to the North Atlantic Assembly (parliamentary arm of NATO); Chairman of its Scientific and Technical Committee in 1972, and of the Working Group on the Control of Narcotics; Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, 197 3 to present; Chairman of the Monopolies and Commercial Law Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee; former Chairman of the Immigration, Citizenship and International Law Subcommittee. Congressman Rodino has been an active legislator, authoring the majority report on Civil Rights in 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1968 and floor manager of the 1966 Civil Rights Bill. He co-sponsored the 1968 Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act which established the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. He initiated an amendment to the Foreign Assistance Act of 1971 which cut -off aid to nations which did not cooperate with the United States in curbing the flow of illicit narcotics into this country. Mr. Rodino was also responsible for legislation which eliminated national origins quotas as the basis of the United States' immigration policy. Peter Rodino, as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, directed the first Presidential Impeachment Inquiry in over 100 years. That committee under his leadership also conducted the investigation and hearings with respect to the nomination of Gerald Ford to be Vice President, which was the first such nomination submitted pursuant to the 25th amendment. . The honors accorded Peter Rodino have been legion, and it would be impossible to list. them all. However, among those who have honored him are: The Republic of Italy which presented him their highest decoration the "Cavaliere di Gran Croce"; The Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy; The Veterans of Foreign Wars who awarded him the VFW s.11.ver Star; The American Justinian Society which presented him the Special Recognmon Award for Congressional Leadership. He has received an Honorary Doctor of .Hu~ane Letters from LeMoyne College and a Doctor of Civil Laws from St. John's University. He was the Rutgers Law School's outstanding Alumnus in 1974, and was awarded the Federal Bar Association's Medal of Excellence for Distinguished Service. Peter W .. ROBERT F. WAGNER The career of Robert F. Wagner is deeply interwoven in the fabric of the City of New York. Born in Yorkville, the son of the late Senator Robert F. Wagner, a distinguished public official and an honored graduate of New York Law School, Robert F. Wagner gravitated naturally to a career in politics, government, and public service. After graduating from Yale College and Yale Law School, Robert F. Wagner was elected in 19 37 to the State Assembly. As a member of the Assembly, he revealed his compassion and concern for the Jess affluent in our society. He was the first member of the State Legislature to propose legislation on State and local public housing projects. He sponsored legislation to bring decent medical services to all our people, irrespective of ability to pay. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he resigned his Assembly seat to accept a Commission in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1946, he began a career of twenty consecutive years of municipal service .. a member of the City Tax Commission, Commissioner of the Department of City Planning, President of the Borough of Manhattan, and three terms as Mayor of the City of New York, a record of tenure in that office matched only by Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia. The Wagner years were characterized by reform at the political level, restructuring at the governmental level, and by the establishment of higher standards of integrity and performance by elected officials and public employees. He spearheaded vast programs of construction of housing, schools, hospitals and health centers, libraries, parks and playgrounds, and other facilities vital to the City. Following his years as Mayor, he continued to devote his talents to public needs. He served as the United States Ambassador to Spain, by appointment of President Lyndon Johnson. He was elected a Delegate to the State Constitutional Convention of 1967. He served as Chairman of the Temporary State Commission on the Powers of Local Government by appointment of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller. He is President of United Neighborhood Houses, a Director of St. Luke's Hospital and of Phoenix House and is identified with many other civic and community organizations. Mayor Wagner, in the light of your distinguished achievements and in view of the compassion, sensitivity, and creativeness which you brought to your public responsibilities, and by authority of the Board of Trustees, New York Law School is proud to confer upon you the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa, with all the rights, privileges and honors thereunto appertaining.

J. CURRAN

Scholar, teacher and internationally recognized expert in the field of legal medicine, William J. Curran is a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School, class of 1950. He received his LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1951 and completed his studies with a Master of Science in Hygiene in 1958. Professor Curran has taught at the University of Santa Clara School of Law and was Assistant Professor of Public Law and Government while Assistant Director of the University of North Carolina Institute of Government. From 1955 to 1957 he was Associate Professor of Law at his alma mater, Boston College of Law. In 1958 William J. Curran was named Edward R. Utley Professor of Legal Medicine and Director of Boston University Law-Medicine Research Institute. Professor Curran is the former Dean of Metropolitan College of Boston University. Since 1968 Professor Curran has been the Frances Glessner Lee Professor of Legal ÂĽedicine at Harvard University . He teaches at Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, and at the Harvard Law School. Professor Curran is also the Administrative Director of the Interfaculty Program in Medical Ethics of Harvard University. Professor Curran's publications and professional activities have led the legal and medical professions in the area of the legal implications for modern medical practices. His pioneering work in the definition of "brain death" and the drafting of legislation allowing individuals to donate organs while alive have had a profound effect in every state and, indeed, have saved many lives. A leading writer and scholar in the field of legal medicine, Professor Curran is the author of seven books. His scholarly activities have included drafting health laws for the State of Massachusetts which have led other legislatures in adopting similar progressive legislation. In recognition of these outstanding achievements as a legal scholar and his influence upon the laws throughout the country, the Trustees of New York Law School are pleased to confer upon William J. Curran the Degree of Doctor of Laws bonoris causa, with all of the rights, privileges and honors thereunto appertaining.

JOHN EINAR MURRAY Major General John Einar Murray was born in Clifton, New Jersey in 1918 and is a graduate of George Washington University with a Master's Degree in International Affairs. He graduated from New York Law School in 1950, and graduated from the U.S. Army War College in 1961. Major General Murray, who entered the U.S. Army as a private in 1941, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1943. During World War II Major General Murray served as a Warrant Officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps, and as a company grade officer in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. From 19 51 to 19 5 3, he was Assistant G-1 and later Secretary of the General Staff, Headquarters, Second Logistics Command, in Korea. He then served in the Office of the Chief of Transportation in Washington, D.C. Major General Murray served two tours in Europe, in both staff and command positions. He has served two tours in the office of the Secretary of Defense and a tour with the Pacific Command. Major General Murray has served previously in command positions in Vietnam, also as Director of Logistics, and his last military assignment was as U.S. Defense Attache in Vietnam. Major General Murray has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal. His foreign awards include the Order of the Crown of Italy, the Italian War Cross, the Korean Ulchi with Gold Star, and six Vietnamese decorations. Major General Murray resides in Washington where since October of 1974 he has been Vice-President - Assistant to the President, Association of American Railroads. In recognition of the high achievements of this distinguished alumnus of New York Law School, the Board of Trustees is honored to confer upon him the Degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa, with all the rights and privileges thereunto appertaining.

WEARY

Near the turn of this century, William Joseph Weary, son of Frederick and Elizabeth, first saw the light of day in Oil City, in northwestern Pennsylvania, situated _on a bend of the Allegheny River at the mouth of Oil Creek. Once the site of a Seneca Indian Village, Oil City was founded in 1860, following the drilling of the world's first oil well nearby. For many years the City's oil exchange set the world's price of oil. In these somewhat unusual surroundings, William received his early education, culminating in his graduation from the City's High School. Lack of resources prevented his continuing a much desired college education at the time, and he moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania, where he secured a position as b ookkeepter , In 1917, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in World War I on destroyers and battleships, returning to his old position at the conclusion of the War. In 1924, he served with the United States Coast Guard in Philadelphia and later in the Brooklyn Navy Yards. In 1927, when St. John's University opened its College of Business Administration, Bill Weary entered its evening division, and after three years was appointed its Registrar. In 19 31, he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, cum laude. In less than three years he became Acting Dean and, in 19 35, Dean of the College, which then had some 1000 students, increasing by 1960 to 3200, with a faculty of some 60 professors, and two campuses, in Brooklyn and Jamaica. After 25 years service as Dean, he came to New York Law School as Registrar. In accepting his resignation, the President of St.Joh n's University wrote: "This is one of the most difficult letters which I have ever written. I shall take this occasion to tell you that not only my administration but others which you served have always held you in admiration, and have regarded you for your devotion, loyalty and fidelity to St. John's.********* To say that we shall miss you would be telling a minimal degree of the whole truth." He was then awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science, and was named Dean Emeritus of the College of Business Administration. Since 1962, he has served New York Law School with the utmost loyalty, competence and fidelity. Much of the school's success in the intervening years may be attributed to his abiding faithfulness and devotion. He literally gave us these precious years of his life, never counting the hours, and in his sensitive post conducting the affairs of the school with limitless dedication. He has also shared his life in fraternal circles, including the Knights of Columbus and the _Order of Elks, and has been steadfast in the faith of his acceptance. In 1972, the Vincentian Community of St. John's University conferred upon Dean Weary affiliate membership, a rather unusual honor. Dr. Weary, for your devotion to every task assigned you, particularly in the field of education, for your loyalty to country in time of war, for your dedication to youth over these many years, for your unquestioned integrity, and your outstanding service to New York Law School dunng difficult periods, for your faith in God and in your neighbor, New York Law School is proud to confer upon you the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws bonoris causa, with all the privileges thereunto appertaining.
