There’s information about us, and how we came to be at the Community Life Center in Lynnwood. Interspersed here and there are Holiday Feast recipes that you might find helpful. So many people today feel an emptiness or a lack of faith. Life loses its meaning. Have you given up trying to know God? Continuing to do the same thing hoping that something will change is a dead-end street when it comes to faith. NWChurch is one of many churches who are concerned that people will risk losing faith ... give up ... and fall into isolation.

We've had to get creative and proactive about how we make that happen, and we're thankful that we've been able to stay relevant and helpful to our community in a really challenging time.

Providing free Thanksgiving/Holiday meals to families in our community has been a favorite annual tradition. We reach more families every year, and love to share the blessings God has given to us. This year has been a particular challenge with the pandemic, but we're happy to figure out a way to provide a free holiday feast for needy families. Another favorite annual event has been one for the children in our community—Kids Camp! Every year, we host a week-long, day-camp for kids ... completely FREE! This event was impacted greatly this year by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we're eager to get back to normal so we can have another great week with the children in our neighborhood.

The student ministry at NWChurch meets regularly throughout the school year, and in the summer for special events that help them stay connected with each other.

Serving the Community Our students work together to serve the community in which we are planted. One of those projects is our annual Kids Camp, where we host 200 kids for a funpacked week of summer fun activities and learning about God.

On the morning of Feast day, put the turkey in the pan. Remove the neck and giblets bag from the turkey. You do not have to wash the bird—the USDA actually recommends against this as the water splashing can spread bacteria—but please DO wash your hands and any tool or surface that comes into contact with the raw turkey. Salmonella poisoning is real, and you don’t want your guests remembering the holiday for anything other than your fabulous meal.

Cooking a Thanksgiving Turkey Cocinar un Pavo de accion de gracias
Season and truss the turkey. Rub salt and pepper both inside and out; you can add a touch of spice or chopped herbs if you want to get fancy. Truss the turkey—or at least tie the legs together, which will stabilize it—and place it on a rack inside the roasting pan. Be sure to place the bird breast-side up in the pan.
If you’ve never cooked a turkey before, the whole process can be a little intimidating. Even those of us who cook for a living feel the pressure when it comes to this holiday meal. You’ve got the bird—and it’s big— and one chance to get it right. Cooking a Thanksgiving turkey involves nothing really more than a few basic steps. You need a turkey, some seasoning, a roasting pan fitted with a rack, and a thermometer. Oh yes ... and a working oven.
A note on stuffing or dressing: Most sources recommend cooking the stuffing/ dressing separately from the turkey. If you choose to cook the turkey with the stuffing inside the bird, you will need to cook the turkey until it—and the center of the stuffing — reaches a safe temperature of 165 degrees, which will increase roasting time. By the time the stuffing is safe to eat, your bird will be overdone and dry. It’s way easier to cook the stuffing separately in a pan.
HERE’S HOW YOU DO IT: Buy your turkey. To make sure your turkey is big enough for your feast, figure on 1 pound per person ... or more if you want plenty of leftovers. If you’re buying the turkey frozen, give it at least three or four days to thaw out completely in the refrigerator before cooking. You do not want to roast a frozen bird. Come feast day, if the turkey is still a little frozen, run it under cool running water, until it’s completely thawed.
Heat your oven to 425 degrees. While your oven is heating up, baste the turkey all over with melted butter. (If you want,

you can flavor the butter with a touch of maple syrup, mustard, or juice; this will add extra flavor.) Place the turkey in the oven.

Cook it until it’s done. Temperature is the only safe way to tell if the turkey is actually done. I prefer using a digital thermometer with a probe so I can keep track of the turkey’s progress in real time.

The Bible tells us that God wants us to live “abundant lives,” and we believe this extends to the whole person—the physical body as well as the spiritual life. We have a dedicated team of nurses and medical professionals who help us by leading exercise or health classes and offering free blood pressure checks to monitor our health.
