STACKED KAMPUNGS By Liew Yuqi This project imagines how urban commons may take form in view of the future challenges posed by the transformation of Jurong East into a CBD. It addresses the displacement of existing communities and inflow of new communities, specifically t h e l ow- s k i l l e d i n d i v i d u a l s a n d new professionals respectively, by introducing a research and living facilit y. Common pool resources of food, water and energy are coproduced from waste whilst living spaces are built and reconfigured by inhabitants through scaffolding structures. In shor t, this project hypothesises that these t wo implicated communities will initiate and engage in communing through their collective interests to adapt. This is fuelled by the motivation for new communities to assimilate and for existing communities to stay relevant.
