Localizada num abrigo natural no vale do sopé da Serra da Estrela, e próximo da freguesia de Gonçalo, numa zona igualmente conhecida pelo nome de Mora, a propriedade agrícola, com aproximadamente 18 hectáres, rodeada de uma densa floresta de espécies pináceas, apresenta-se cuidada e preservada, nomea damente através da actividade agrícola nela desenvolvida.
Situated in a natural shelter of a valley at the foot of the Serra da Estrela, close to the parish of Gonçalo, in a place also known locally by the name of Mora, this agricultural property has approximately 18ha of area, and is surrou nded by a dense pine tree forest.
No centro destaca-se uma pequena pré-existência de granito construída em meados do século XX, a qual foi tomada como ponto de partida para este novo projecto. A necessidade de um novo programa Habitacional não podia descorar a actividade desenvolvida na quinta, pelo que, num primei ro gesto optou-se por separar o antigo do novo. Contudo, as condicionantes e morfologia do terreno, fortemente marca da por vários socalcos, conjugados com as exigências e a ideologia do programa, encaminharam para a solução de ampliação da habitação.
The property has been well preserved over the years thanks to its agricul tural activities. At its centre stands a modest pre-existence of granite built in the mid-twentieth century, from where the new project started. In order not to disrupt the farm activities, we decided to split the old from the new when designing the house. The final outcome, with the extension of the existing house, resulted from a compromise between the owners wishes and the existing features and morphology of the land, characterized by the existence of several terraces.

De forma natural surgem dois novos volumes de betão aparente, implantados num socalco existente, que “namoram” com a pré-existên cia, permitindo o desenrolar fluído do progra ma habitacional e agrícola vivido nesta quinta beirã.
Assim, na zona vulgarmente conhecida por Mora, nasceu a casa NaMora, onde a massa de betão que contem o novo programa “namora” formalmente com o corpo de granito existente em total harmonizando-se com a paisagem envolvente.
In a natural way, two new volumes of concrete were created and implanted in an existing terrace, closely linked to the granite pre-exis tence, allowing for a natural and fluid develop ment of the local farm.
The name NaMora has a double meaning in Portuguese. It refers to the location of the project, where “Na Mora” would translate into “In Mora” (Mora being the place where the property lies), but “namora” in Portuguese means literally “flirt” or “date”. Thus, in a place named Mora, the House NaMora was born, where the concrete volumes forming the new part of the house formally “flirt” with the existing granite body, in total harmony with the existing surroundings.
O programa foi claramente divido em dois momentos: arrumos, zona técnica, instalação sanitária de serviço e cozinha, localizados na pré-exis tencia, completamente dedicada à memória e vivência da quinta. Sala de estar, quartos, suite e espaço exterior de lazer integram a parte nova da habitação.
No interior procurou-se a neutralidade, simplicidade e pureza dada pelos materiais e pela ilusão da ausência de detalhe. A ideia de interioridade traduz-se no controlo das aberturas para vistas e enquadramentos selec cionados e pátios estrategicamente localizados.
The project was clearly divided into two distinct yet complementary elements: the storage, technical area, functional sanitary installations and kitchen are located in the pre-existence and fully dedicated to the farm’s activities, whereas the living room, bedrooms, suite and outdoor leisure space are part of the new section of the house. Inside, we sought the neutrality given by the simplicity and purity of the materials and by the illusion of the absence of detail. The idea of interio rity translates into openings towards landscapes, frames and courtyards strategically located.

A escala da intervenção e a identidade natural do sítio estiveram sempre presentes, quer na escolha do sistema construtivo, quer na materialidade introduzida: pedra, betão, aço e madeira. No interior, o branco e o conforto da madeira equilibram a presença crua e austera do betão aparente. The scale of the intervention and the natural identity of the site were always taken into consideration when choosing the construction approach and materials: stone, concrete, steel and wood. Inside, the white and the comfort of the wood balance with the raw and austere presence of the concrete. Outside, stone and concrete are carved in the same way, in a reinterpretation of the vernacular architecture of this region.
