After nearly two years of scoping, environmental assessment, analysis, and public comment, the Forest Service gave approval to allow Class 1 e-bikes access to approximately 160 miles of system trails and paved paths throughout Phil’s Trail Complex and Wanoga (both in Bend), Sunriver, and Peterson Ridge Trail (Sisters) locations. When revisiting the two-year old discussion of what to do with the Sisters Recycling Center (SRC) during the December 10 Sisters City Council regular meeting, City Manager Jordon Wheeler shared how impressed he was with the turnout of 433 respondents
to the SRC survey. City staff assessed the results from the survey conducted from October 16 to November 4, and created a documented report for City Council (Council). Public to weigh in on county district map The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) will host two public hearings in January to gather feedback on the five-commissioner district map recommended by the Deschutes Map Advisory Committee (DMAC). An evening hearing is set for Tuesday, January

Passerbys have been curious as to why work suddenly stopped a few months ago on a housing development at the corner of Larch Street and Adams Avenue, after a flurry of infrastructure work was completed. Larch Commons, a project of Sisters Humanity, projects a total 26 planned, with 19 deemed affordable, for those making up to 80 percent of the area median income. Six of the units will be “workforce housing” — accessible to up to 140 percent of AMI. One of the homes will be fully American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible. One home will be priced at market value. The homes will range from one to three bedrooms and from 900- to 1,300-square feet in size.
