“We wanted beautiful furniture and found Beau’s work has a true craftsmanship with a great sense of proportion. I am sure this comes from him being an artist and a photographer, as well as a furniture maker, and having something sustainable meant a lot to us,” said owner Pam Goode. The garden bar has been a part of the hotel’s redevelopment plan and now there is seating for 50 people outside the dining room and inside the garden bar. Beau Zimmer says he was honoured to supply the outdoor furniture for the newly revamped hotel. “For these tables I have used a batch of over 100-year-old Pine that was recovered floor joists from a factory in Rotorua. “I sourced the wood from an elderly man on the North Shore who had stored it for more than 20 years. In the

future I hope to turn my hobby into a successful business that will provide one-off, feature pieces at an affordable price that will last a lifetime.” The garden bar has beautiful views down the Paparoa Valley and across the river. “It is a great place to enjoy a meal and we plan to have functions and music in the future. The area is also available for function hire,” says Pam. “Our hotel manager Kevin Cholmondeley-Smith is setting a high standard of excellence and friendly service as well as delivering a great menu based on local produce and seafood, fresh ingredients and surprising flavours and delicious meals with our resident chef Dino Robertson.” The Thirsty Tui summer hours serving brunch and lunch seven days a week are from 11am to 3pm and evening dining is also available seven days a week. ¢
