HONORING OUR NATIVE PEOPLE Written By Moee Turbin According to the Oxford Dictionary, indigenous means "originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native." We often refer to indigenous people as those who came from the land; those whose ancestors trace back to that very place; those whose families have respected the land, utilized the resources and raised children in these spaces for generations. survived colonization, starvation, abuse, disease, and murder of

their people, among other tragedies. Because of America's long and torrid history with Native Americans, there is a small percentage of Natives who help make addition to this, you will rarely find more than a few outside reservations. Reservations are lands designated to Native peoples to amend for hardships imposed by the U.S. Federal Government. Moreover, they also serve as a form of control. Despite the history, Natives remained unified and prideful in their culture, and we celebrate the beauty of this very culture today and always.
