On behalf of the cast, crew, and directors, I would like to welcome you to North Raleigh Christian Academy’s Squire Theatre and our 2023-2024 Season of Consequence! We are delighted to share our spring musical MY FAIR LADY with you, our audience. Thank you for your support of the student artists who have worked tirelessly to bring this production to life. Squire Theatre is proud of our dedication to excellence, and we look forward to continuing to bring you theatre that surpasses your expectations.
The way we treat others reveals our character. Colonel Pickering treats Eliza as if she were a duchess when she is a flower girl. Professor Higgins treats a duchess as if she were a flower girl. There are consequences for how we treat others. Higgins learns this lesson firsthand. Yet those consequences can be countered with forgiveness. To forgive another person costs us. To truly forgive means we must give up the claim to bitterness and anger that we hold toward the person who has wronged us. A person who wrongs us owes us a debt, and yet, through forgiveness, we release them from that burden.
There can be no doubt that Henry treats Eliza poorly. He treats her as an object to be molded to his absurd sense of perfection. Eliza is not an object. She is a person made in the image of God, and she deserves nothing less than to be treated as such. The Apostle Peter writes to the Church that they must learn to forgive through love because “love covers over a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). Will Higgins ever come to realize how much of a person Eliza truly is? Will Eliza choose forgiveness and claim her integrity as a person? Only a production of this classic musical can tell.
Thank you again for your support of the student artists of NCRA’s Squire Theatre, and we hope you enjoy the production. We look forward to celebrating with you all again next year in the newly renovated Sherrill Center for the Performing Arts!
