By Patrizia Luraschi - The sexual maturity of brown bears falls between three and five years. Under good reproductive conditions, young females can give birth every two years. The mating season falls in the months of May and June and during this period the males wander in search of their mates for reproduction. After approximately seven-eight months of gestation, the bear cubs are born in the middle of winter, usually January or February, in some cavity dug to shelter from the winter cold. Generally females give birth to two or three puppies, it depends on the availability of food, the age of the mother and the climatic conditions. The puppies are born almost naked, blind and very small in size, in fact, their weight is around three hundred/four hundred grams.
