First Day Hike
S
tart the new year off to a healthy start by hiking at Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen. The park will participate in the national First Day Hikes movement sponsored by America’s state parks on Wednesday, January 1st at 10 a.m. The event is part of a national fitness event and celebrates the 150th anniversary of California State Parks.
The moderately strenuous eight-mile/four-hour hike goes through a mixed evergreen forest and concludes at the top of the summit offering sweeping views of Sonoma Valley. Along the way there may be early sightings of “Milkmaids,” the first brave wildflowers. The hike may not be appropriate for children under thirteen. The cost is $15 and includes parking, a bottle of water, and snacks. Advanced registration is encouraged, call 707.938.5216 or visit jacklondonpark.com. ¶
