Στην πόλη Glashutte, κοντά στη Dresden, ο Ferdinand Adolph Lange ιδρύει ένα εργαστήρι κατασκευής ρολογιών, όπου κατασκευάζει ρολόγια τσέπης άριστης ποιότητας. Μετά το θάνατό του αναλαμβάνουν οι δύο γιοι του, Emil και Richard, οι οποίοι, όπως πολλοί τότε Γερμανοί ωρολογοποιοί, παράγουν τεράστια ρολόγια χεριού ειδικά για τους αεροπόρους του Β΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Λίγο πριν τη λήξη του πολέμου, το κτίριο της εταιρείας βομβαρδίζεται και το 1948, η σοβιετική διοίκηση δημεύει την περιουσία των Lange με αποτέλεσμα η εταιρεία να πάψει πια να υπάρχει. Το 1990, μετά την κατάρρευση της Ανατολικής Γερμανίας, ο Walter Lange, εγγονός του Ferdinand Adolph Lange, μαζί με τον Günter Blumlein, επανιδρύουν την εταιρεία στην πόλη Glashütte και κυκλοφορούν την πρώτη συλλογή ρολογιών χεριού, το 1994.
In 1845 in Glashütte, near Dresden, Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded a watchmaking workshop, where he would craft pocketwatches of excellent quality. After his death, his two sons Emil and Richard continued the trade, and the company grew and gained international renown. In the Second World War, like many German watchmakers of the time, they produced over-sized wrist watches for pilots in the Airforce, and it was especially tragic when shortly before the end of the war, their company’s building was hit by aerial bombing. In 1948 the Soviet government confiscated the Langes’ property, effectively causing the company to cease to exist. In 1990, following the collapse of East Germany, Walter Lange, Ferdinand’s great-grandson, returned to his hometown Glashütte and re-founded his parents’ company together with Günter Blumlein, producing a new collection of watches in 1994.
