At Notre Dame Housing, we believe community is not just where you live, it’s how you thrive. For over 25 years, we’ve created a place where aging adults and individuals with limited income can live with dignity, independence, and friendship. Each day, I am inspired by the way our residents, staff, volunteers, and supporters embody the mission that guides us: to provide not only affordable housing but also the programs and services that make aging in place possible and life-giving.
This past year, Notre Dame Housing has continued to grow in both impact and reach. Our Life Enrichment Center remains a cornerstone of connection, hosting over1,600 programs that nurture wellness, learning, and belonging, a remarkable 67% increasefrom last year. From fitness and wellness classes that promote independence to educational workshops, art and music sessions, and community outings, each opportunity reflects our beliefthat everyone deserves to live a full and engaged life.
Our communityfood pantry has also become an essential source of support, not just for residents, but for neighbors throughout Omaha. With rising food costs and ongoing economic challenges, the demand for assistance has never been greater. In the past year alone, NDH’s pantry served more than 10,000 people and distributed 69% morefood than the previous year.

We are proud to operate on a noquestions-asked basis, ensuring that anyone in need can accessfood without barriers or stigma.
Behind every statistic are real people, neighbors, friends, and family members whose lives are made better because NDH exists. I am deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, generous donors, community partners, and volunteers whose commitment keeps this mission alive each day.
As we look ahead, the Board of Directors remains steadfast in our dedication to sustaining and expanding the work of Notre Dame Housing. Together, we will continue to meet the needs oftoday while preparing for the challenges and opportunities oftomorrow.
Thank you for your belief in this mission and for walking alongside us as we ensure that everyone has the chance to age in place surrounded by safety, friendship, and the comforts of community.

With gratitude, Scott Bear
President Notre Dame Housing Board of Directors

For Joyce Slezak, Notre Dame Housing wasn’t just a new place to live; it was a true homecoming. Born and raised in Omaha, Joyce spent years helping her family and supporting her grandchildren out of state. But her heart never left her hometown. When she returned to Omaha, Joyce remembered the warm impression she had of Notre Dame Housing after touring a newly built building years before. Moving in felt like coming home.
From her veryfirst day, Joyce was struck by thefriendliness ofthe community. “All the people I meet and continue to meet are friendly and welcoming,” she shares. It’s not only the people who create this sense of belonging, though—it’s the activities, spaces, and support systems available to everyone.

With exercise equipment, a permanent food pantry, and a vibrant life enrichment center nestled among thefour buildings, Joycefound opportunities to stay active and social right at her doorstep. She describes Notre Dame Housing as “busy, with lots of activities to choosefrom,” a place where she can engage in everything from music sessions to watercolor painting all within a safe, welcoming environment.
Shefinds immense value in being part of a place that encourages personal growth and connection.

Michael describes himself as someone with a strong sense offamily and deep roots. “I got married a long time ago,” he says with a smile. “My kids are grown and gone now, and I’ve got grandkids too they all live out oftown.”Thankfully, Michael’s sister lives in Omaha, and they see each other often, enjoying the comfort offamily close by.
Before retirement, Michael spent 20 years working in the mailroom at First Data. His experience as a “jack of all trades” continues to shine
through in his willingness to lend a hand at NDH especially in thefood pantry, where he helps keep orders organized and makes sure things run smoothly when the truck arrives.
Michael first discovered Notre Dame Housing while at a doctor’s appointment. “I wasfilling out paperwork and saw NDH on the list. I had never heard of it before,” he recalls. At the time, he was living with his sister-in-law and was readyfor a space of his own something quiet and peaceful. Hefound exactly that when he moved to NDH in September 2024.
Since then, Michael has trulyfound his place. “It’s peaceful, nice, and quiet,” he says. “I enjoy the outings and the bingo. Everyone here is really nice and friendly.” He also likes using the bus to run errands, working in the food pantry, and staying active in the senior center. “I ride the exercise bike —that keeps me going. And I come out of my apartment and spend time with the other residents.”
Sharon is a proud Omaha native who spent 32 years working as an office para for Omaha Public Schools. In that time, she built strong friendships with many teachers connections she still treasures today. She’s also a devoted family woman, sharing life’s joys with four children, five grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. She and her late husband would have recently celebrated 47 wonderful years of marriage. One of her most cherished relationships is with her best friend of70 years, a bond that’s stood the test of time.
Sharon has called NDH homefor the past seven years, having moved in on June 9th, 2018. She wasfirst introduced to the community by her son-in-law’s mother, who also lived here. Since making NDH her home, Sharon has embraced the community’s spirit and camaraderie with open arms.

“I like to be able to get out and about and be with other people,” Sharon says. “I’m not one to sit alone in my apartment. Living here helps me stay social.”
That shift, from isolation to connection, has been one ofthe most profound impacts NDH has had on her life. Through regular activities, friendships, and a supportive environment, Sharon feels more active and engaged than ever before.
Sharon is a familiar face in many of our programs and groups. She’s especially connected through the Stitches & Stories group and spends time in the Senior Center.

For more than two decades, Mildred Snyder has called Notre Dame Housing home, and in that time, she has become known for her commitment to serving others.
Mildred’s journey to NDH began after the passing of her husband. Shefound herself needing a change, searching for a place that felt safe, supportive, and welcoming. “I wanted to get out ofthe area I was living in,” she said. “I was looking around and here I am.”That simple decision, made over 20 years ago, led her to a community where she has found comfort.
Born and raised in Nebraska, Mildred spent her life surrounded byfamily. She and her husband raised their children, staying actively involved in their lives. “I enjoyed what my children did and going to their activities,” she shared. “We took a lot oftrips together Mt. Rushmore was always myfavorite.”
That love offamily and community extended into her career. For 27 years, Mildred worked as a school cook at Sherman School, where she prepared meals and offered kindness in equal measures. Her memoriesfrom that time arefilled with thefaces ofthe children she served.
At Notre Dame Housing, Mildred is active. “I enjoy everything: the residents, activities, food pantry, staff—they’re all very helpful,” she said. “They offer so much here that you never get bored. Shefinds joy in programs like the Merrymakers and guest speakers who bring insight to the community. PAGE 19
