Admissions Process The first stage of the admissions process is registration.

Registration needs to be completed online, via the school website at www.northwoodcollege.gdst.net, by the deadlines during the Autumn Term prior to the year of entry. Details will then be sent of the assessments, which take place in the following January. Assessments for entry at other times during the school year may be possible. Please contact the Registrar for details (admissions@nwc.gdst.net).

Agreed Code of Practice for Entry at Year 7 for September 2021 Information for Parents For the purposes of Year 7 Entry procedures the following London Independent Girls’ Schools form the London 11+ Consortium. All Schools use a common entrance examination with a common mark scheme.

Channing School, Francis Holland (Regent’s Park), Francis Holland (Sloane Square), More House, Northwood College for Girls, Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Queen's College, Queen’s Gate School, St Helen’s School, St James Senior Girls’ School, South Hampstead High School, St Margaret's School and The Godolphin and Latymer School.

The date of the entrance examination is Friday 8th January 2021.

1. Applications Please contact each school for which you wish your daughter to be considered requesting an Application Form and any other relevant information. N.B. You must complete a separate Application Form for each school to which you apply.

The individual schools to which you have applied will then process your application and send you any necessary information. You are strongly advised to attend Open Days at all the schools for which you have applied and you should ring each school or visit their website early in the Autumn Term for the dates and times of Open Days.

If a pupil is applying to more than one school in the London11+ Consortium, please indicate your preferred examination centre.

Please note that candidates may sit the examination at any school for which they are registered; sitting the examination at a school which is not your daughter’s first preference will have no influence on how her application is considered and her chances of success. Any school to which an application is made will receive the results of the individual candidate, irrespective of where the examination is taken. Please be aware that all schools have limited capacity and candidates may be re-directed to an alternative centre.

2. School Reference Each Consortium school to which a candidate applies will seek a reference separately, prior to the entrance examination.

3. Specific Learning Difficulties The consortium will be guided by JCQ guidelines with respect to access arrangements. Candidates who have been assessed by a professional and identified with a learning difficulty or particularly uneven learning profile may have 25% extra time, as long as they have at least one standardised score under 85 which relates to speed of reading, speed of writing, or cognitive processing measures which have a substantial or long term adverse effect on speed of working or at least two standardised scores under 90 relating to speed of processing or working as above. In either case, the current school should be aware of the need and allow extra time in tests wherever feasible. Submission of appropriate written evidence, from both specialist and school, will be required in support of all access arrangements by 18th November 2020. In exceptional cases, it may be possible to consider allowing extra time where standardised scores are not below 90. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis when supported by substantial evidence but it will be extremely rare that extra time is allowed. Where scores do not fall into the required range, and access arrangements are not given, the educational professional’s report will be taken into consideration in appraising the suitability of the candidate. Please note that girls will require reassessment of their needs in Year 9 before embarking on their GCSE courses. 4. Equipment on examination day Candidates should bring their equipment to the examination in a transparent pencil case. They are also reminded that it is prohibited to bring in any electronic device that enables external communication or the storage and retrieval of data, including smart watches.

5. Past papers Familiarisation material is available on the Consortium website (www.london11plus.co.uk) which is also accessible via the websites of each school. The familiarisation material provides examples to indicate the range of skills required to complete the assessment, but the sample questions are not intended to provide a guide of the level of difficulty of the questions.

6. Interviews The Consortium schools make their own arrangements for interviews.

7. Examination Results These will be made available to all the other schools in the Consortium to which your daughter has applied. The other schools to which your daughter has applied will then consider whether or not to offer a place on the basis of the examination, school reference and interview, if included in the process. Please note that some schools do not call all candidates for interview, and you should check with the individual school about their interview process.

8. Offers Offers will be posted out to parents by all schools in the Consortium on Thursday 11th February 2021(schools using email will email offers on Friday 12th February 2020). Some of these may be for a place on a waiting list. Information about a position on the waiting list is not given. All girls on the waiting list are considered to have qualified for entry should a vacancy arise.

9. Acceptances It is strongly advised that acceptances – or declines – are notified to schools as soon as a decision is made. Holding unwanted offers denies other children the chance of a place. Acceptances must be received by the school at which you wish to confirm a place by noon on Wednesday 3rd March 2021. If no reply has been received to an offer of a place by that date it will be assumed that you do not wish to accept and the place will be re-offered. You may not give written acceptance of a place to more than one school. Once you have accepted an offer, please do immediately inform other schools where you hold offers, so that these schools can then offer places to candidates on waiting lists.

Special Educational Needs Northwood College for Girls is a selective school and offers places to children with difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD or autistic spectrum disorder, who meet our places to children with physical or sensory impairments and/or long-term medical conditions provide appropriate support for their needs. We try to ensure that, wherever possible, all pupils have the same access to all areas of the curriculum. Differences in programmes of study only occur on rare occasions where it is in the best interest of the pupil. Discussions about the support required for such pupils will be independent of the admissions assessment. Where a girl has already been identified with a specific learning difficulty and/or disability and is normally allowed special arrangements in exams, the school will follow The London 11+ Consortium guidelines, which require evidence to show that the pupil has a below average score in one or more areas affecting speed of working. Parents are requested to forward relevant reports to the Registrar, who will pass them to the SENDCo to confirm the pupil’s eligibility for exam access arrangements.

Scholarships and Bursaries For Entry at Year 7 (11+) A limited number of Academic, Music, Sport and Art and Design scholarships are awarded annually to girls entering Year 7 of the Senior School.

The Academic Scholarships are determined by performance in the Year 7 entrance tests, together with the interview and school reference. All girls will automatically be considered; there is no need to apply for an academic scholarship.

For all other Scholarships, you are required to complete the Scholarship application form which you will have access to once you have registered.

If shortlisted, girls who have applied for a Music Scholarship will have an audition with members of the Music Department on the day of their interview.

Auditions will include: • The performance of a piece on the girl’s main instrument, ideally of Grade 4 standard or higher, but it is not a requirement to have passed a graded examination. If your daughter’s Music teacher feels that your daughter is naturally gifted and plays at around Grade 4 level or higher, please consider applying.

• The performance of a piece on a second instrument, or a vocal piece. If the candidate has only one instrument, then she should perform a second, contrasting piece on her main instrument.

• Some short aural and sight-reading tests.

• An informal discussion.

There will be no written music papers. The potential of a candidate to contribute to the musical life of the school is the principal criterion. Music staff will accompany the girls as necessary but girls may bring their own accompanist if they wish. Music scholars will be expected to play a leading role in the musical life of the school by attending choirs, orchestras and other groups and to contribute to concerts, open mornings and such. Scholarships will be reviewed annually to assess this contribution.

For the Art and Design Scholarship, a candidate’s potential will be considered as well as their achievement. Candidates will be asked to upload photographs of their Art portfolio made up of five pieces of art, craft or design work showing their creative talents. This may include both two and three dimensional work. Shortlisted girls will be required to undertake a 50-minute observational drawing test and to bring their Art Portfolio on Friday 8 January 2021.

For the Sports Scholarship, applicants should be outstanding at one sport (competing at County/District or Regional/ National Level), or have the potential to represent the school at several sports (at A team level across at least 3 sports). Candidates will need to produce a Sports CV and, if shortlisted, have a Sport Assessment on the day of their 11+ Interview.

All successful candidates are required to work hard, to contribute positively to the life of the School, to be a credit to the School and to set a good example to other pupils, as well as contributing positively on an ongoing basis to the area of school life in respect of which the Scholarship has been granted, failing which Scholarships can be withdrawn.

If you have any queries regarding any of these scholarships, please contact Mrs Jemma Davidson, Registrar, at: admissions@nwc.gdst.net For Sixth Form Entry (16+) To be eligible to apply for an Academic Scholarship for the Sixth Form, a candidate would need to achieve grades 7-9 in all their GCSE subjects.

Bursaries The Girls’ Day School Trust provides a limited number of means-tested Bursaries to enable suitably qualified girls to enter or remain in the Senior School. They are available for entry into Year 7 and Year 12.

GDST Bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need; though academic merit is taken into account. Bursary applications are assessed independently by the Fees Office of the GDST and applications take into account parental income and assets.

Bursaries to the value of 100% of fees can be awarded depending on individual circumstances. The bursary will include the cost of lunch, mandatory curriculum extras (such as day trips), a uniform grant, and free use of the coach service (providing the distance from your house to Northwood College is further than three miles). To be eligible for a bursary in Year 7 a candidate must be within the top 20% in the Consortium entrance examination. To be eligible for a bursary in Year 12, a candidate would need to achieve grade 7-9 in all their GCSE subjects. Bursaries must be applied for no later than the end of November prior to entry the following September.

Fees include lunch, loan of text books, stationery and mandatory curriculum extras. Fees may be paid annually or termly in advance, or by monthly installments. One term’s notice of the intention to withdraw a pupil must be given in writing and must be received by the Head before the first day of the pupil’s last term. Where such notice is not given, one term’s fees in lieu will be payable.

A deposit of £1000 should accompany the Parent Contract when accepting a place at the school. The deposit will be held until the end of the pupil’s final term in the school and will be refunded as soon as is reasonably practicable after this, less any outstanding fees, additional charges of Fees in Lieu of Notice due to the school or the Girls’ Day School Trust. No interest will be paid on the deposit.

Before and After School Club SuperClubs runs the wraparound care provision at Northwood College for Girls. If you need fun, convenient and affordable childcare before and after school during term time then SuperClubs is perfect for you. The club includes a variety of sports, games and arts and crafts.

With a range of activities to choose from, your children will continue to learn new skills and enjoy playing games.
